Kim Kardashian has a 45% cut of her iOS game, will make $85 million this year

FFN_Kardashian_Sisters_SpartanoFF_070714_51472145

As we discussed yesterday, Kim Kardashian’s iOS game is a HUGE hit. Like, it’s one of the biggest hits of the year and it’s already raking in hundreds of millions of dollars. The gaming company, Glu Mobile, has seen a steady increase in its stock price. People are addicted to the game like crack. So, how much of the profits will Kim see? A LOT. She’ll see more from this game than all of her other projects combined.

Kim Kardashian stands to make around $85 MILLION from the new video game iPhone app that boasts her namesake … more than she made last year in all of her other ventures combined … TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the deal tell TMZ … Kim’s cut is 45% of net profits. The game — “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” — is set to gross a reported $200 million this year alone.

We’re told the actual expenses associated with the business are relatively low. A straight 45% cut of $200 million totals a whopping $90 million. Industry sources tell TMZ … expenses would not exceed $10 million.

So … we’re no mathematicians, but 45% of $190 million is $85.5 MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS. To put this in context … according to Forbes, Kim made $28 million last year.

As you know … the game is all about becoming a virtual celebrity, but it costs real money to buy your way to the top. Now the bad news for Kim. We’re told she has to pay her agent, Uncle Sam and, of course, Kris.

[From TMZ]

This just goes to show you that A) everything’s coming up Kardashian and B) you can mint money with these apps and games. Everybody always talks about the new tech bubble and how it will burst in the next year or two years, but I don’t know… I’m not sure if this shiz really is a “bubble”. I think it’s the new normal. As for Kim’s profits – a 45% cut is pretty good. $85 million in one year (before taxes) is amazing. I wonder what Lucifer’s Homegirl’s cut will be? 10%?

*sobs life is not fair* i have a big booty too, why not me? sob

    • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

Lol I have one very big too!! Why not us *sobs sobs*

    • An says:

That’s double her current net worth too! 😭

    • Kate2 says:

Its not just about having a big booty. You need a giant, unnatural booty and a crazy, famewhoring mom. THAT’S the magic combination.

    • Rascalito says:

Don’t forget though, Apple takes 30% of all sales right off the bat before the app publisher gets paid. But still it’ll be a ton of money that pretty much nobody wants to see her getting paid. :\

  2. BooBooLaRue says:

Wow just wow. Makes me wonder why I even bothered going to graduate school? Or high school for that matter.

    • Ag says:

      seriously.

AND i have a big butt too! haha.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Same, here. But my bootie is slowly creeping down the back of my thighs as I age. 🙀

Makes me nuts the money I paid for education and some witless twit injects fat into her azz and becomes a multi-millionare.

    • andypandy says:

I make it a point not to comment/click on KK Clan stories. As I think thats the only way they will go away ,I know people love to hate them thats why they click/ comment but that only validates them as it increases traffic to the site and hence sites will continue to feature them
Anyhoo I digress seeing this headline made me stabby .Im now on my way to flush my degrees That is All

    • lucy2 says:

All the money in the world can’t make her smart, educated, interesting, or happy.

      • Eloise says:

THIS! And in her future she is going to be alone, a horrible mother still, flabby, and the plastic surgery (that she started in her early 20s or before) is going to look terrible like Cat Woman Wildestein, and with two 100lbs “tumors” dragging at her ankles.

    • skeksis says:

Oh, come now, this can’t be the first time you’ve wondered why you went to graduate school–I’ve been wondering why I did since roughly two weeks after I finished. 🙁

    • m says:

This is all bogus. These PROJECTED figures are based on FREE downloads. Just like how her PR team (PMK) said Kim sold way more Vogue covers than she actually did!

It is just more free hype for her crappy products. They probably are trying to crush the rumors that she is broke too.

      • lisa says:

yes these numbers dont add up

      • Joan says:

thank God someone sees through them..a look at the app store and the recent game reviews will tell you if this game is in track to even make 3mil.this story is too bogus..this game may make 2mil but nothing more than that..it was in the. no 2 in top grossing and no 2 in top new as of last week, but last night it was no 4 in top grossing and no more in the top 10 free games…its a’ll hype.they should hope that the game still remains on top in the app store and stop throwing bogus lies around…..

    • realist says:

All that money she had wasn’t enough to keep the man she really loved (reggie). Having to marry kanye as a last resort means she didnt end up with the one she really wanted. Money cant fix that.

  3. FingerBinger says:

I don’t believe this. Even the most popular games don’t generate that much money.

    • Jules says:

Kim’s cut is 45% of net profits. The game — “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” — is set to gross a reported $200 million this year alone.

It is BS. Even the quote above is mixing net vs gross.

    • melodycalder says:

I believe it. Candy crush made $1.5 BILLION last year. The app market is huge

    • Debb says:

ITA – This is cr@p from the Kartrashian PR machine.
Also – Kanye’s kash flow problems are save by marrying this Kash Kow.

  4. Eleonor says:

the hardest working a@# in town.

  5. Allie says:

Yes apparently you don’t need an education or talent in life. All you need is to get peed on in a sex tape.

    • SK says:

She didn’t get peed on. That was R. Kelly’s sex tape with a 13 year old girl. Kim was never peed on in hers. Stop with this. It is really annoying! There are plenty of real things to dislike this woman for without making up crap.

      • Allie says:

Um, no. This actually happened. I don’t spend my days dreaming of new rumors about kimmy.

  6. Belle Epoch says:

More made-up numbers. Although after a few million what are we even arguing about?

I looked at Tumblr which has a lot of scenes from the game. There was a photo of a young gamer that said “OMG I just spent $495 playing KK goes to Hollywood.” Where does anybody find $500 to burn on a video game?

It’s time to leave Earth and re-colonize with Celebitchy readers.

    • paola says:

I think they are.just making this up. People with a working brain would never spend that much money shopping on an app but instead go out and spend it for real. I bought some boosts on candy crush once for 99 cents and I felt guilty for a whole day!!! Lol

      • Paola – you put too much faith in humanity. Yes people are that stupid. These are the same people that watch the show, bought her porn tape, buy her clothes, have a Kardashian card, etc. Sadly there are a sh-t ton of stupid people in this world. I find myself asking how evolution can be possible when there’s so much stupid out there. It’s like Idiocracy come to life.

And yes there are probably stupid people who dropped hundreds of dollars buying “virtual” crap on their credit cards because ‘they don’t have to pay for it today, they can pay it off later’ *palm to forehead* this is exactly how stupid works.

    • swack says:

Like I said yesterday, if you do the math, for the game to make $200 million at $100 a pop, 2 million people would have had to bought the virtual money. Sorry, but that seems a bit unreal.

    • littlestar says:

I don’t believe it either, not one bit. I said yesterday that the Kardashians are known to lie to promote themselves, this is more of the same. I can see a lot of people downloading the game for free, but no way in hell are there enough people out there actually paying for the add-ons to potentially generate $200 million. If there are people buying it now, it’s because it’s new and exciting. Give it a few months and sales will drastically drop, just like with any other fad.

The reason why they are lying about the sales figures of the game is to generate more interest. We’re here talking about it, right?

      • paola says:

Exactly. And it looks more like something a 12 year old would be interested in. I refuse to think grown up people would pay real money to play on that app.
And why on earth would people want to get Kim changed in different dresses??
If it was an app to make Kim and her family disappear i bet those number would be 10 times bigger.
what the hell.. i’d pay real money too!

      • Mrs K. says:

@ littestar: I fully agree with you.

    • jwoolman says:

The $495 story (which is interesting, worth reading) sounded like satire to me. But who knows? It’s easy to rack up huge bills, which is why I’ve set the restriction “no in-app purchases” so I don’t click in the wrong spot and end up with $99.99 worth of Tetris Blitz coins… One woman gave her granddaughter the Smurfs Village game and didn’t realize that there was a default 15 minute open window after you’ve purchased a game where you can make other purchases without re-entering your password. She had just downloaded the game on the child’s device, and the little pumpkin racked up something like $150 worth of Smurfberries when the game asked her if she wanted to buy some. The kid didn’t know she was buying with real money.

    • Anna says:

@ belle epoch are you actually active on tumblr? based on your post it seems like you aren’t because that screenshot isn’t from a kid, it’s from a journalist who played the game for an article who became addicted to it.

to the other people, it’s not a game just “children” are into, I know of A LOT of adults on tumblr who are into it who buy the 99.99$ pack to play it. so I actually believe these numbers. but it’s easy for you guys to knock this game cause its Kim K

  7. MsMercury says:

Her PR game is good. I wonder what kind of deal she has with TMZ. Anyway, lets wait until the real numbers come out. Right now we have projections, expectations and hopes and dreams the facts always come much later in KK stories.

  8. embertine says:

You know what? Good for her. I rag on her for being famous for doing nothing, but she’s going to make a mint from this which means she is either shrewd enough to know where the app-based gaming market is headed or shrewd enough to employ people who are. I never thought I’d offer a “Fair play, lady,” to KK, but the fateful day has come.

  9. Lizzie says:

I don’t really like her, but fair play….that is one good deal.

  10. Hissyfit says:

    Damn, $85 million? Wow.

  11. Lovelee85 says:

This just goes to show, “you can pay for school but you can’t buy class!”

It’s stories like this…that’s why everyone’s trying to be the next Kim K. Because it pays big time. These people will do anything for money. It’s insane. The worst part is she will waste that money on designer hidious matching organic snake skin corduroy outfits for her family….in beige/sandstone. Vomit.

    • may234 says:

Oh, God, not with classy comments again. She lives her life the way she wants to.

    • If she spends it all on ugly clothes (because designers refuse to dress her for free (smart)) then it will be karma doing it’s job. Spend it like water right because you’re not really working for it any way? Karma would be if that dumb dumb family pulled an MC Hammer one day. Her fame cannot last her forever. One day she’s going to have to go the way of the friend she so used to admire, Paris Hilton. This heffa’s game cannot last that long (I hope).

  12. abby says:

Paris Hilton must be kicking herself considering what Kim and her family have managed to do all from a sex tape and a famous last name.

Anyway, I may not like the Kardashians but they certainly know how to hustle.

I wish I had known about this Glu Mobile venture before, cause that is where I would have put my money. Instead of buying fake money for celeb adventures, I would have purchased stock in this company when the price was lower. Damn.

  13. pantalones en fuego says:

I’m already slightly grumpy this morning and this just really annoys me. Is 9:30 too early for a martini?

    • kri says:

@ Patanlones No it isn’t. May I have one too, please? This bitch is just too much to take. Our only hope is that her ass explodes. Otherwise, she will be around forever. Oh, god.

  14. Eve says:

I call BS of this, while I am sure she will make a good money from this game, this astronomical figure is too inflated to be realistic, this could be another PR stunt from the Kris and Kim to pretend that the Kardashian brand is still successful and on demand, just like the their lie about the high sales for the Vogue cover. I played her game when it first come out because it was free and I will admit it was very slow and boring and nothing special about it, very 12 year girl type of game, so I don’t know how many grown people would actually spent lots of money on this game.

    • minnieder says:

Ha me too. I downloaded it yesterday, played for 10 minutes, was bored as hell and uninstalled the app. Not even REMOTELY interesting!!!

    • may234 says:

I looked it up – the game has 40,000 reviewers… Unless they hired somebody to sit there and write all that, sounds like a pretty legit number.

  15. paola says:

I don’t believe, not even for a second, that she’ll make that much money out of a crappy app.
I think you might actually lose brain cells playing that game. What a f-ing joke.

  16. HH says:

Wow… Can’t knock that hustle. I’ve always wanted to make just one good app. Just one.

  17. Jana says:

Honestly with that cheat going around that gives you practically unlimited everything you need I don’t know why anyone would actually buy stuff on there. Once you get to A-list everything becomes super boring and repetitive.

    • word says:

We shouldn’t believe everything we read. Where’s the proof about how much money this App has actually made?

  18. shelley says:

At least this is a legitimate business venture. Although no one would be buying this app if no one had ever heard of her. Who knew that a sex tape could get you so far in life? I’m in the wrong business.

  19. Brittney B says:

Ugh. I wish someone would delude this woman into believing she should follow Angelina Jolie’s PR plan, because she could do SO. MUCH. GOOD. with all her money. I won’t hate on her for earning it, but she’s such a vapid, boring, selfish person… and hey, maybe if she looked at philanthropy as an ego boost/PR move, she’d be willing to help change the world.

    • She’s too self involved to give anything away to charity. She doesn’t even donate her clothes, doesn’t she eBay them? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Oddly enough, now that you mention it, her family is the only celebrity family I know of who can get away with giving ZERO to charity. No one has ever brought this up?

  20. ReturnoftheMac says:

I’m in a terribly foul mood today and I know this is misplaced anger but this really makes me livid. I work hard, volunteer in numerous community projects, and live a super modest lifestyle. Yet my check that hits my account tomorrow is already gone and I’m scrambling trying to figure out how to make it for the next two weeks and she makes 85 mil?! Grumble, grumble, grumble. 🙁

    • paola says:

Oh don’t be upset… money can’t buy you all. I’m sure you have friends who love you even if you’re broke and your family doesn’t pimp you around for the sake of money. Maybe, if you have kids, they know what you look like and they’re happy to be around you.
I really wouldn’t want to be them, I can happily look at my face in the mirror in the morning knowing that i didn’t downgrade myself to become famous and I don’t have to spend my days shopping and pretending to have a busy life. Im’ sure that at night, when the lights are off, while i sleep marrily… Kim & co. think of how to make more money. And more. and more.

  21. Kim1 says:

Didn’t they claim her Vogue cover outsold Beyonce’s cover.BS
I will believe Nori refuses to wear pink before I believe this BS.

  22. someone says:

I’ll admit it: I’m jealous!!!! And who are the idiots buying this imaginary stuff in her game?

  23. lucy2 says:

A Kardashian with $85 million? The plastic surgeons of Beverly Hills all just heard “cha-ching!” in their heads, and are probably off to buy new cars, boats, and mansions.

I’m sure the numbers are BS though.

  24. dorothy says:

Have to admit, didn’t think there were that many stupid people in the world that would purchase the game. Scary.

  25. pk says:

If true that’s a lot of money, but really how many people would want to trade places with her?
There are people that I can admit I envy for “having it all” but Kim K doesn’t come to mind.

  26. Kate2 says:

As others have said, I don’t know if I buy this $200M figure. Am I to understand that you spend $100 for fake money and you don’t get any actual merchandise? Who the F*** is doing that? Who is that completely financially inept that they would spend $100 on fake money?

I mean, shit. I’m going to raid my Monopoly game and sell that money if there are people stupid enough to give me real money for it.

  27. maybeiamcrazy says:

My 12 year-old cousin plays the game and she loves it. That’s a lot of money but it is not like she is stealing. Fair play IMO.

    • may234 says:

if her parents are giving her money for this – their priorities are mixed up. If my daughter wanted to waste money this way she would need to make them herself.

  28. amara says:

So after I read the earlier article about her game, I decided to download it and see what the fuss is all about. I played it for about an hour and didn’t find it all that fun, so I deleted it shortly afterwards. I guess I don’t see why people would spend $$ to get to extra levels and what not. Pretty damn dumb and boring.

  29. word says:

So when her and Kanye get divorced, can you he go after some of that money lol ?

  30. People, please stop saying “money can’t buy you class”….it’s making me think of that horrible Real Housewife of New York…”The Countess” whatever the F her name was, who recorded a TERRIBLE song by that name…..do you remember that!? Well, I do, and now it’s in my head…probably forever.

I\m going to need a lobotomy. Or maybe just a lot of wine.

  31. Wow says:

Major business news outlets are reporting these figures without auditing them. But it’s not unusual for apps to do so well. I’m going to hold a big party with free champagne for everyone the day the moronic Kardashian clan is officially at Paris Hilton’s current level of fame. People, esp business people, should not stoop so low and give these people the coverage they want.

    • word says:

I think the news of her making this ridiculous amount of money is going to make people hate her even more.

I don’t think the Kardashians are going away any time soon. There are too many of them, and they have no shame. Paris was not as hated as Kim. People lost interest in Paris. People hate Kim and hate is a feeling that can last a long time…much longer than love. No one ever grows tired of hating someone and that’s the reason this idiotic family is still around.

      • relio says:

I think they are fading away now, just slowly. Almost nobody cared when she married Kanye, and her her reality tv show is low in ratings. They are are doing everything possible to stay ‘famous’ but it wont work. Kim just leeches off of other ppl. She did it with Paris, she did it with every C list guy she dated and now with Kanye. Her time will be up too.

  32. may234 says:

It’s like everything she touches turns into gold 🙂

  33. wow says:

You know, I usually roll my eyes and side-eye parents like Joe Jackson, Carole Middleton and Kris Jenner. But I have to admit, they sure know how to make their kids financially well off. There’s got to be more to it than being supportive parents who encourage their kids. If that were the case then all families with those traits would be millionaires ten times over.

I just don’t get it or the fascination with this girl.

  34. melain says:

Darn her and her evil mother! I would like the money, but I couldn’t give up my anonymity or my mother.

  35. Lucy says:

Let’s stop gnashing our teeth and rending our garments.
These figures reported by TMZ are as sketchy as the report they made about Farrah Abraham making a million dollars for just making her sex tape – not including residuals. It was all a lie.
TMZ is known to be close with the Kardashians in a mutually beneficial sycophantic relationship which in no way resembles the truth.

  36. StillFightingIt says:

Okay… Confession time. I play this game, and I’m kind of addicted to it. BUT, (a big but here, no pun intended) I haven’t spent any of my real money at all and would never DREAM of doing so. I’m definitely not going to pay any money directly to the Kardashian legacy. The only thing stopping me from feeling horribly badly about myself and the fact that I play this game is that I haven’t spent any money on it. Nope, I have my money for better things, like, oh I don’t know… food? Living expenses? Haha, the game really is a fun little time passer, though. *Runs away*

  37. mazomazohyst says:

I’mma puke. That’s all. Also, weeping for humanity.

  38. jwoolman says:

Don’t know about numbers for this game, but popular freemium games can make a bundle. The ones I play, like Tetris Blitz, Candy Crush Saga, Juice Cubes, Jewel Quest (all puzzle games, not role playing like this one), have ways to continue in the game for free (such as by waiting a few hours for lives to regenerate or playing challenges and waiting a day between challenges) rather than paying real money. The few people impatient enough to buy their way to a new batch of levels or boosters or immediate new lives let patient cheapskates play for free. The developers make big bucks from the impatient and get good reviews from happy cheapskates, so they keep adding to the game to keep people interested. It’s no worse than spending money on movies and popcorn and the old pinball machines. Depends on how much entertainment value it has for you.

So if enough people really like the Kim game and enough of them are impatient with money burning a hole in their pocket- she could make a nice chunk of change. The description I saw sounded too dumb to last like the puzzle games (which have new levels constantly added), but I don’t play such games and so I would be a poor judge.

  39. relio says:

This is probably false. Just like how her PR claimed that Kims Vogue was one of the best selling covers this year, when it was actually one of the worst ones ever sold. First it was claimed she would make 200 million off a game, now 85 million? I don’t think she will make that much off a free game. And I have never heard of it until now. And she is not as rich as Kanye West, if hes in debt, then she is too probably. Cos who else is paying for those 40 million mansions, designer clothes, luxery cars, tickets into events, etc? Its not Kim certainly.
