Anybody else wishing for Jennifer Garner to kick Ben Affleck to the curb and to reunite with Michael Vartan? Anyone? Anyone?

    • Esmom says:

I’m not gonna lie, it was my first thought when I saw this story earlier. Poor, unlucky in love Vaughn. I’m thinking Sydney Bristow/JG blew her chance back when she had it, though.

      • Jayna says:

You act like you know what he’s like behind the scenes. He now has a failed marriage. But I guess he’s perfect and Ben if horrible. It could be the opposite behind the scenes.

      • Esmom says:

You’re right, but jeez, aren’t we all doing that here to a certain degree? I only meant that the *narrative* as I’ve seen it via gossip sites, is that he was dumped by Jen and now dumped by his wife.

And I don’t hate Ben either, I just thought Jen and this guy were super cute in Alias. I didn’t mean to offend.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I like Ben and I like him with Garner.

        *dodges tomatoes*

I’m in the very few minority that thinks they actually have a real and solid marriage.

That being said. I’ve always found Vartan SOOO sexy. Screw Gardner, he should be with meeee!!!

      • FLORC says:

        Jayna
In DareDevil the chemistry between Jen and Ben was dry and non-existent. This was a majority consensus based on many reviews from professional reviewers to average movie goers. Not just my opinion.
The Chemistry on Alias between Michael and Jen was hot. Not Mr. And Mrs. Smith hot, but certainly an honorable mention. Also not just my opinion, but reviewers felt the same as well as audiances.

So, just going by on screen chemistry and not anything else Vartan wins.

As far as Ben being horrible… Those cheating scandals and gambling habit rumors never seem to go away with new rumors (and nude selfies) popping up often.
Maybe they have a solid marriage. Maybe Jen just knows how to adapt to Ben and pick her battles. You know about as much as we do. Neither of us have insider knowledge. Unless you do! If so please share!

        TOK
That is the silver lining here. Vartan is available! More sexy Vartan threads please!

    • Ivy says:

Me, me, me! I’m with you! They were adorable together.

    • word says:

Ben and Jen were just spotted in Detroit a few days ago together having fun with their youngest child at Detroit City Kids (indoor playground). I don’t think she’s leaving him and they seem happy. Don’t always believe what the media reports. She is visiting him while he is shooting the new Batman movie. See Kim Kardashian, spouses make time to visit each other !

      • Dea says:

No, she just ignores his gambling & drinking…….turns a blind eye.

How bad is he that Jen has to be the “most patient wife ever”!?!?!?!

And the kids are out of school yet they still have not moved to Detroit, just visit a few days but spend most time in LA.

      • FLORC says:

I question Garner and when she’s seen out after she went on the war path with paps and kids. As Kaiser (or was it cb…Bedhead?) calls it the Dimple parade comes out post hazardess PR.

It’s known she plays the PR/Pap game. It’s likely that was staged based on a long history of pattern behavior.

      • word says:

There aren’t any paps in Detroit. They were seen at Detroit Kid City by regular folk who were attending a bday party there. The place was shut down for a private bday party but the Afflecks asked kindly if they could stay. This was reported in the Detroit free press.

I know Ben had a drinking problem but he went to rehab and I have not heard of any drinking problems since then (maybe I missed a few stories???). I do know he has a gambling issue but unless he’s gambling their life saving’s that’s not a reason to get divorced. I do think the media makes up a lot of stories. I don’t know…no marriage is perfect. I guess time will tell.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I don’t need them to get together, but it has been a while since I have seen Alias. I miss that show! Victor Garber was so great. I even have my own little dance to the theme song (it is amazing, trust!) 😉

      • Esmom says:

I miss the show, too. I tried to get my 13 year old son to watch it on Netflix with me recently but he couldn’t make it through the first episode, has zero interest in it. Boo.

        Your dance sounds fabulous. 🙂

      • Brittney B says:

As someone who saw every episode’s first airing and owns all the DVDs and still tries to make out the home movie footage in the title sequence every time…

        I must see this dance!!

      • Tiffany :) says:

I might have over sold it…;)
It involves me making karate-style moves with my hands (like I’m fighting a bad guy), a couple kicks, and then doing some slow motion cartwheels, while singing along with the song. I’m super cool, ya’ll!

      • InVain says:

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I loved Jen & Michael together, on and off screen.

@ Brittney B – I saw the entire season through and have all the DVDs too!! It was the first show I stayed dedicated to throughout the entire thing…

    • Enny says:

NO! Because he wants to be with ME! MEEEEEEE!

    • Francis says:

He and JLO were good in the Monster in Law movie. 🙂

    • Roger says:

No, sorry. That ship sailed. And if we put in consideration other rumors, Michael Vartan isn’t a saint either -As homophobic and misogynist-.

    • Lia says:

She looks like a blonde Jennifer Garner. I’m thinking that is no coincidence.

    • Katherine says:

Jennifer worked long, hard & “smart” to nab Ben – what she considers an A lister. She is never going back to the rest of the alphabet.

  2. Erinn says:

Please let that be bloat, and not a baby in there.

  3. Jenna says:

Vintage Dwayne Johnson is one of the best things I’ve seen. Ever.

  4. word says:

Why do supermodels get paid so much? They were born beautiful…ok…so do they deserve that much money for it? They have no talent other than not giving in to the temptations of chocolate and donuts…fine…but really…THAT much money ???

    • Ag says:

      it’s depressing, isn’t it? sigh.

    • Mixtape says:

I totally understand what you’re saying… that simply showing up and smiling is not worth more money than most people earn in a year of 40+ hour work weeks, and agree. But whenever I read comments asking why celebrities or sports stars get paid so much, I chuckle because this is not just some arbitrary decision by TPTB to throw money at some people and not others, it is supply and demand. I am sure there are marketing studies somewhere demonstrating that Gisele’s appearance in an advertisement for a product boosts sales X%. If we’re really fed up with this imbalance, we should make an effort to stop spending our money on celeb-endorsed products that we probably don’t need, and contribute it to efforts to increase the pay of teachers, fire fighters–whoever you think should be earning more in lieu of Gisele.

      • yeller says:

        Hey Mixtape,

Have you seen the studies by Forbes showing how overpaid some actors are versus how much money their movies gross? While your statement about the studies is completely logical, I think there are plenty still out there who are paying these celebs far more than they are worth.

      • Illyra says:

        Well said, Mixtape.

      • Mixtape says:

Yeller, this is a great point but I think there are still economic explanations. For instance, Jennifer Aniston always tops that overpaid list, but because she gets a lot of tabloid press, a film gets free marketing when she’s on board (e.g., thinking of all those articles from two months ago of her on the set of Cake)–so what she doesn’t make in the back end she may be saving the production company on the front end. For other actors, they’ve just reached their overvaluation point but, because movies are made (and pay rate negotiated) years in advance of release, it takes a while to catch up with them. For example, Johnny Depp earns bazillions for the Pirates franchise, his pay rate goes up, he makes movies A, B, and C in quick succession at the high pay rate, A and B bomb, by the time C comes out we all realize he is overpaid, but he negotiated payment for C well before A and B bombed and while still riding the success of Pirates.

At the end of the day, though, movie studios, advertisers, etc. get their money, which they pass on to celebs, from we the consumers. If we stopped giving it to them, or at least gave a little less, they would not have the ability to issue astronomical paychecks.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

My question is this: are they saying that she makes $128K every day for gigs? Or are they just taking her total annual income and dividing it by 365 days?

Because if it’s the latter, then I’m willing to bet that some of that income is coming from investments, endorsements, and side projects not so much from her modeling gigs.

I could be wrong though. Can anybody shed some light?

But yes, either way it’s depressing but slightly less depressing if we know that the money is coming from smart business investments and not just being pretty.

      • FLORC says:

        TOK
I thought it was based on a fixed end of year total income after taxes divided by 365 days. So, endorsements, royalties, partnerships, etc… making that total.

Previous years articles have done the same way of splitting her daily earnings much like Warren Buffet makes X every hour. 24 hours in a day 168 hours in a week 52 weeks in a year etc… etc…

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Makes sense to me, FLORC. Thanks for explaining!

    • Brittney B says:

While I *really* don’t think income inequality is fair at all in this country, and I definitely wouldn’t give supermodels that much money, I must say…

Models do a hell of a lot more than just showing up and smiling. Supermodels have it a lot easier, but almost all of them started by working their asses off. I read Elyse Sewell’s LiveJournal back in the day, and while she’s only known here as an ANTM contestant, she was getting a lot of work in Asia in the early 2000’s. I was AMAZED at how hard she had to work, the conditions of the places she had to live, the number of calls she had to go on every single day (and find her own way through strange cities to do it)… basically, after reading about her career and hearing from some model friends, I will never again judge a model for “not working”.

      Their lives are not easy.

      • FLORC says:

Models trying to make it. It’s not easy. Even models that have made it, but not really made it big yet with a few designer contracts.
And that’s not the typical struggle top super models of today had to go through. Crazy Naomi and Heidi Klum got picked up right away before even thinking about modeling.

And no matter how hard Gisele may have had it her life is cushy now. She adds her name and face to something and watches the money come in.

      • word says:

Most of the “supermodels” of this generation did not have to work super hard to get there. Most of them were scouted. Most of them were living their regular lives and were approached by someone who asked if they wanted to model. It was THAT easy for some of them. Gisele was spotted in Brazil, asked if she wanted to model, and the rest is history.

      • Ange says:

*sigh* I miss Elyse Sewell’s live journal, it was great reading.

    • Francis says:

It’s a BUSINESS and these women work and men work. More power to them if they can make that kind of money. There are some models that are basically corporations.
If a advertiser wants to pay millions for a face to represent the product ,Why Not?
I see nothing wrong with it.
Also there are so many actors that were models first, even though many don’t reveal that once they become big actors.

If Supermodels or models can work for a few years and make millions ! I say why not?
These models are one woman-man corporations in themselves, they put dollars in advertisers pockets.
Years ago when Cindy Crawford was made the face of a product ,sales went up.

Modeling is a short window of opportunity, these ladies and some men, must make as much as they can while the sun is shining on them. The smart ones parlay their careers into bigger business areas, some go to school or back to school get their degrees, some go into acting on and on.

      • word says:

I understand that. I just don’t understand how it came that models got to the point they now make millions and millions of dollars. I too would work as a model if I was approached by someone. Who wouldn’t? It’s much easier than having to get a PHD or medical degree ! Even the most successful lawyer can’t make the money some of these models make.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree, Francis. They are getting paid millions because their faces in the advertising campaigns help the companies sell hundreds of millions, sometimes billions, of dollars worth of goods. Their pay is in relation to the earnings of the company they are representing or the estimate of the amount of goods sold due to the advertising campaign.

People have also complained about the amount TV stars make, but if you figure the number of eyes that see the ad space during commercials because people tune into see the actor or actress on that show, it makes sense. One of my friends works in placing ads for Fox shows, and the networks make absurd money for selling the ad space. Yes, $100k an episode is outrageous, but so is asking for $10M (total) for 5 minutes of ad space two or three times during a half hour.

  5. Wallamalooo says:

I can’t see any picture, just a blank, vanillary-beige…oh wait ;P I cannot honestly think of a less interesting actor – he should have married Jessica Biel!

  6. bettyrose says:

I get annoyed with lists of things not to say to someone in pain. Any heartfelt well intentioned comment is better than deliberately avoiding someone out of fear of saying the wrong thing.

    • Diana says:

Sometimes I feel like you are damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I mean, yeah, people don’t be an insensitive jerk, for sure, but it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to have done research/education on clinical depression, or whatever your thing is. Then again, it also gets tired fielding the question “but just relax!!!!” for the 1,000,000,000th time in a row from someone well-meaning.

I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (severe), so I know what it is like to go through every day as a seriously draining struggle. Whenever people try to give me advice… I know they mean it from a good place; I smile, thank them and move on. It’s pointless to get annoyed by it; most people mean well, and that *does* mean something.

      • Illyra says:

Agreed. Telling someone to “just get over it” and “stop being so negative” etc. are jackass moves IMO, but the others…? I dunno…

    • Kaiser says:

That list sort of annoyed me too – some of the stuff is stupid, obviously, but I don’t see what’s wrong with offering to bring ice cream to someone?

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Who’s gonna say no to ice cream?

And I agree completely. Lists like this just intimidate people and make family and friends feel awkward around those who need them most.

The “it’s all in your head” stuff isn’t ok but none of the others really jumped out at me as being inherently “bad”. Plus sometimes people just say things like “cheer up” because they don’t really know what to say. It’s their way of trying to stay positive more so than trying to be bossy.

      • Brittney B says:

Yeah, these over-generalizing articles don’t do us any favors (“us” being people with mental health issues).

The “gluten-free” type comments are annoying as hell, but not offensive in a way that worsens my depression… “chin up”, on the other hand, is a great way to make me feel even more frustrated about my stubborn brain. It’s also a great way to weed out the rude and the ignorant, so it all works out.

      • FLORC says:

Who would say no to ice cream?
Someone with Orthoexia would say no.
But I question how down my friend that did this really was since she demanded I bring no fat froyo next time I want to cheer her up.

Overall the list makes some common sense points.
Don’t belittle someone’s feelings. They’re going through a hard time and we all deal with it differently.

Taken literally though the list annoyed me as well.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I get the objection to feeling like you have to about research every disorder before you open your mouth, but I’m not sure I agree that any comment is better than no comment as long as it’s heartfelt. I’ve dealt with depression for years, and I don’t really discuss it much with other people, but the few times I’ve tried and gotten comments about how lucky I am, or how maybe I just have “too much time on my hands” to think about negative things or how I should just relax/think positive/be grateful it has really hurt. It’s like you’re drowning and somebody throws you a cement block. You already feel weak and ungrateful, and then someone you trust reaffirms that feeling. It hurts.

I think when anyone has a problem or is suffering a loss, you should try not to say anything that implies it’s their fault or it’s God’s will or they could get over it today if they would only do such and such. It’s great for them to know you care. That’s all you really need to say. You can’t fix it, and you probably shouldn’t try to.

Kaiser, at the end of the article, she decided it was actually good to bring someone ice cream, and she took that one off the list of donts.

      • Brittney B says:

You just worded this perfectly. I need to copy your first paragraph and save it for the next time I hear this comment. It does really hurt when someone close to you doesn’t take your pain seriously… and with depression, avoiding something that hurts feelings isn’t just “being PC”; it’s refraining from pouring salt into wounds that are already soul-crushing.

  7. Andrea says:

Ben Affleck seems high maintenance to me and I dunno I always liked Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan together!! I wish they were together again too..

    • Jayna says:

It doesn’t sound like they were the loves of each other’s lives to me. An interview with Michael Vartan right around the time that Alias was coming to a close heading into their last season.

“Their characters’ intensified romance presents an interesting challenge for Vartan and Garner, who dated last year before Garner found lasting love with her current fiancé, Ben Affleck. But Vartan says his romance with Garner ended without drama and quickly morphed into a brother/sister-like bond. He describes their split as “benign,” adding, “We’re much better off as friends.”

“They remain so close that Garner was the one who pulled Vartan aside to clue him in on her engagement before the rest of the world got wind. “On the surface, it could have been a recipe for disaster,” he concedes of his and Garner’s post-romance on-set relationship. “But Jennifer and I were best friends first, during (the romance) and after.” And though he has yet to meet Affleck, Vartan says, he has “heard nothing but wonderful things about him. Their love is very genuine. I’m hoping Ben will put me in one of his next movies.”

    • Lena says:

RE: Vartan and Garner: She made the right decision, trust. He (Vartan) is a bit sketchy. I mean, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED WITH HIS NOSE? Anyone know? Ruined it for me.

      • Jayna says:

I didn’t even notice his nose before. Yeah, when an ex says the split was benign and went back to being great friends, like a brother/sister relationship, and that she and Ben seem really in love and he hopes Ben puts him in a movie, yikes. I don’t think of a super hot, passionate affair. I think she definitely made the right choice.

  8. Jayna says:

Maybe he’s leaving his wife for J-LO. LOL He was in a movie with Jennifer Lopez, Monster In Law.. It’s kind of funny that while he’s still on Alias he does a movie with Jennifer Lopez, whose ex, Ben Affleck, is now dating Michael’s ex, Jennifer Garner. Oh, incestuous Hollywood.

  9. Cerulean Skygirl says:

I don’t think the phrase “unlucky in love” is ever really accurate. The common denominator in THIS relationship failing, and the one with Jennifer, is HIM. Who knows if he’s a philanderer, has alcohol/drug issues, verbally abusive, emotionally unavailable, etc.

Ya never know what goes on behind the scenes in relationships. I’ve learned firsthand ( I used to live and work in L.A… in entertainment) that just because someone looks amazing, or “seems” like a nice person due to their roles or public behavior, that they might be totally different in private.

  10. jasmine says:

Finally someone who we can be proud to call Armenian, Michael Vartan! The Kardashians have brought so much shame to Armenians, we don’t even want to admit that she’s actually half Armenian, but alas, her last name gives it away!

  11. Wow says:

I never watched Alias but caught him in a few films. He seems a bit bland to me (but happy to be convinced otherwise) and I agree with the poster up there that Garner and Affleck are solid and will not be splitting up, ever. I mean, he put up with the “amazing s p 3 r m” comment from her and she with the “marriage is really hard work” stuff from him.

  12. Mrs. Darcy says:

He was definitely in my top 10 blandly hot dudes for awhile. Like the talent level is pretty nul, but I don’t care because he’s pretty. His career really stagnated though, what does he do now?

  13. Vilodemeanus says:

So does anyone know the back story on his supposed stalking of this woman and wearing her down until she finally caved and married him? There’s been a few rumors that he was pretty weird about her, and that when someone provided proof he’d had her followed and possibly even tapped her phone and email, she was freaked out and dumped him and filed for divorce that day. How creepy would that be? To end up married to your own stalker? There were rumors when they were dating and this split and filing for divorce was really fast. I just kept hearing whiff’s of this rumor about him on and off for a couple of years. Anyone else?
