Amy Lee gave birth to her 1st child, a son named Jack Lion Hartzler

Amy Lee

I’ve recently rediscovered Evanescance as a form of angry gym music, and the Fallen album was my jam last weekend. I was rocking out to “Bring Me to Life” without any irony at all. Yep, it was very douchetastic, so I’m not turning down an opportunity to talk about the band’s lead singer, Amy Lee. She just gave birth to her first child with her husband, Josh Hartzler. The happy couple welcomed a son and named him… Jack Lion.

Lion? I have mixed feelings on this name. Jack is a very popular name amongst celebrity parents these days. Civilian parents are loving it too, and there are all sorts of variants like Jax, Jackson, and Jaxon. I’m probably missing some more similar names, but I feel like all babies who enter kindergarten for the rest of the decade will be named either Jack or Ava. Maybe this kiddo will choose to go against the grain and use his middle name, in which case he’s stuck with Lion. Oh well, he’s a very cute little babe. Amy Instagrammed a hospital photo.

Amy’s caption reads, “Our little cub, Jack Lion Hartzler, is here. I have never known the depths of my heart till now. The world just exploded into technicolor.” Yep. She’s been bitten by the mommy feeling. Congrats to Amy, Josh, and little Lion!

Animal names! Our final choice for a boy was Fox, and Peregrine was on the girl list.

I have a friend who’s friend named her little girl Peregrine. Not after the bird. Not after Peregrine Took. After St Peregrine – patron saint of cancerous lesions- known for having one leg covered in cancerous sores.

It’s a name that I actually really like in reference to the bird, and to the Tolkien character haha. They kind of lost me at St. Peregrine.

I love evanescence. I think their latest album was criminally overlooked; it was much more like the first album and much better than their second. Anyway, congrats to her!

I love Evanescence too.I love her voice and she is really talented. My brother in law toured with her years ago and said she was a very nice woman.Congrats on your new baby Amy.

Many artists are overlooked. There’s so much music out there and the radio stations just keep playing the same 20 songs over and over. Here in NYC the stations are simply awful, we have no alternative stations and the one rock station plays the same decades old songs day after day. Glad to have Pandora, iheartradio etc. to be able to have variety.

Amy’s voice is amazing and underrated. Congrats to her and her hubby, and the photo is adorable.

That picture of him lying on her chest is very touching. He’s a beautiful baby. Love the name Jack. Lion – not so much, but he’s not my baby, so…

    • PunkyMomma says:

Isn’t that a beautiful pic? Makes me give her a pass on the Lion name – since the baby’s astrological sign is Leo, maybe that’s why he’s Lion?

    • Stef Leppard says:

Jack is so overused. I know five baby Jacks! It’s the new Michael. I cringe whenever I hear ANOTHER person has named their baby Jack/Jackson/Jaxon. It’s like they’re too lazy to come up with anything else.

      • Bridget says:

Or you’re like me, and your son is actually John VII and it meant a lot to your husband to carry on the name, so you just call him Jack.

      • Sacred And Profane says:

I agree Stef. I’m a teacher, and our server was recently updated, so was scrolling through one of the computers in our lab looking for my name to log in. All staff and pupils’ names are on this list, in “first name” order. Since my name starts with J, I was taken straight there. I’ve considered “Jack” to be ultra-common, but didn’t realise until yesterday just how common… We have an enrolment of around 800 pupils. I counted a total of 83 Jacks, or variations of it – from Jac to Jaxonn, including Jaque, Jakk and Giak. I thought my friend’s two Kindy kids’ names were offbeat – she teaches a Thor and a Haze…

Never mind. Congratulations to this little family.

I only know Bring Me to Life but I rock out to it on the reg. I didn’t realize it had gone douchy. Doesn’t matter. Will still rock out to it.

awww…beautiful baby…and yes, I know several people who have named their newborns some variation of Jack! I also know one couple who named their newborn Knox, and when I pointed out that was the name of Brad and Angie’s son, they got very indignant and said they had loved that name for a long time…..yeah, right!

    • Pregs says:

My friend has a 1-year-old named Maddox, and she truly had no idea St. Angie’s kid has the same name. Some people don’t read any celebrity garbage at all!

I’m usually not a fan of earth-y baby pics, but this one is sooo cute! God bless

Evanescence is pretty lame, but that picture is sweet.
My sons name is Wyatt Cub, he goes by Cub. It was my great grandfathers name. It fits him perfectly.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

Evanerscence IS really lame. Amy Lee has a lovely voice and I tried really hard to like them, but EVERY song starts to sound the same after awhile. There’s a difference between having a ‘distinctive sound’ and just being a bad songwriter. Amy Lee is just a bad songwriter. But, congrats on the new baby!

Glad to see a blast from the past. I always liked their music. Congrats on the cute babeh. Animal names are kinda cool.

  9. Mika says:

She has a beautiful voice and wrote+composed her own songs..I have so much respect for this lady.

  10. Chris says:

It’s because father Josh is a huge Detroit fan.

  11. aenflex says:

    Good for her! Cute baby.

  12. L says:

It’s his middle name so it’s not so bad. Who knows most people’s middle names? Now if they had named him Lion Jack or pulled a Kate Winslet and named him bear…..

  13. Ginger says:

I don’t know if I’m going to be among the minority but I really like that name! Even though Jack is the name of my ex fiancé the name has still not lost it’s appeal for me. It’s a great boys name. Then to add Lion to it! Very strong and masculine 🙂

I don’t normally pay attention to baby photos but, this little one looks too precious!
