Is Beyonce shopping for a separate, smaller NYC apartment away from Jay-Z?

wenn21344910

Yesterday we discussed the ongoing saga of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s marriage and whether Page Six really knows what’s up. Page Six/the NY Post has been claiming for months that Bey and Jay are seriously on the rocks and it’s only a matter of time before they split for good. It’s interesting gossip, for sure, but The Hive doesn’t believe it. And it’s all fun and games for now… but if Page Six ends up getting it right, I’m not sure what we’ll do. So, with that in mind, Page Six claims Beyonce is shopping around Manhattan for a new apartment. An apartment for herself and Blue Ivy.

Beyoncé may already have one foot out the door — she’s been secretly shopping for new digs without Jay Z, sources told The Post. The booty-ful belter looked at a $21.5 million Chelsea penthouse early last month — weeks after a videotaped elevator-smackdown involving Bey’s sister, Solange Knowles, and Jay, and amid growing rumors of an impending break-up, said sources close to the superstar couple.

“She was very quiet, as if she was looking on the sly,” a source said.

Fueling the notion that Beyoncé is not shopping for the both of them is the fact that Jay Z has always been extremely involved in their real-estate deals, sources said. Yet he was nowhere to be seen during the apartment showing, they added. Jay also would be loathe to leave their current posh Tribeca pad, a source said.

Noting that the couple’s 8,309-square-foot Tribeca crib is more than twice the size of the 4,045-square-foot West 19th Street pad Bey was looking at, the source added, “I can say with certainty that Jay is not downsizing.”

The source said it would seem clear the new home is for Beyoncé and their 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.

“There’s no way a $20 million apartment is for her mother or her sister. That would be wildly unlikely,’’ the source said.

As The Post reported Sunday, sources say it’s not a question of if the power couple will split but when. The apparent trouble between them surfaced publicly May 5, when Solange was caught on videotape punching and kicking Jay Z in front of Bey in a Manhattan hotel elevator. A source told The Post that Solange attacked her brother-in-law because she thought he was planning to meet Rihanna later that night.

A publicist for Beyoncé hung up when asked for a comment, while a Jay Z rep said she knew nothing about either of them looking for a new apartment.

[From The NY Post]

“A publicist for Beyoncé hung up when asked for a comment”??? That’s amazing. That’s Beyonce’s media management in action. That’s the same media management that allowed that Solange video to eat up a week’s worth of gossip before Beyonce and Jay finally issued a joint statement with Solange. That’s the same media management that ineffectively handled the “collapsing baby bump” conspiracy theory. I’m just saying… if Beyonce and Jay-Z are splitting up, Bey should really hire some professional PR people and maybe even a crisis manager to help out.

Adorable picture of them swinging Blue Ivy.

  2. kaligula says:

A love nest for her and the President. I’m telling you, they are a thing!!! I just know it!!!

    • Talie says:

OMG… if they got together after his term was over that would be the story of the century.

    • kibbles says:

Yeah…I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Even if Bey is having an affair with the Prez, they’d never make it public. His public image and reputation rides a lot on his power couple status with Michelle. I don’t believe their marriage is as solid as the press would suggest, but I don’t think he’d give up on it to get together with an entertainer.

      • maynot says:

Same for Bey and JZ, too much worth as a couple
But that would definitely be our days’ Dinasty.

    • Val says:

I don’t know, does that mean he would walk the red carpet with her as ‘former President’? Will he be her new Clyde? lol

  3. Sisi says:

honestly I think these two will do this the Goop way. Gwyn and Chris had years of nonstop splitting rumours, and then when we and the magazines didn’t expect it… BAM, they dropped the news. Like a last ‘nanananana’ tot the gossips. The rags don’t make the news, Goop makes the news.

Bey/Jay are even bigger control freaks, so will want to control the alleged divorce too. They won’t grant Page six this scoop.

    • Lucy2 says:

I still think they only made it public because Vanity Fair got the scoop on them, and she somehow convinced them not to run it and let her announce it herself. But I could see Beyonce trying to pull a stealth move like that- if they split. I think they’re both too wrapped up in the brand to ever throw in the towel.

  4. Abbott says:

Same PR people who were asking various sites to take down ‘unauthorized’ (Read: unflattering) concert photos.

  5. eliza says:

Once again, I will believe it when I see it.

Until there is a professional moving company truck pulled up to their Tribeca crib loading weaves, wigs and high chairs, I call b.s on this.

They may not love each other BUT they love their brand. They are not giving that up after years of “affair” rumors have circulated.

I think it will be years before they split. I guess we shall see.

  6. als says:

An article with Beyonce and an “elevator-smackdown” – it’s the end of an era!

  7. Lara K says:

Seems like the “brand” will erode to the point that they don’t need to stay together. I wonder if Bey is sabotaging PR on purpose so she can leave with minimal financial damage.

  8. itsnotthatserious says:

I see the tabloids have moved from Brangelina breaking up any minute now to Beyoncé and Jayz. The tabloids are like dogs with bone, they will ride that elevator bust up till thine kingdom come. Bey is a narcissist, I hope they are solid enough to ride out this storm.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

It is weird though it’s picking up steam in a way that it didn’t even during the Met elevator peak craziness. There must be a lot of rumours/stories to keep pushing it (substantiated or not). It does seem really weird that she could tour with him while plotting/negotiating the end of the marriage though, that just requires a whole other level of self control I can’t fathom.

    • lisa2 says:

Brad and Angie had those stories printed about them for what 8-9 years.

If they are repeating that pattern.. we have 8 years left. So sit back and relax. It will be a long ride.

    • Jen2 says:

The tabloids need a famous couple to break up so they have something to report. The best and worse thing to happen to Brad and Angelina was that News of the World nonsense that made it into the main stream media. They did not do the obvious pap walks and pretty family photos. They stayed their own course. Once it moved past the tabloids, they struck back. Sued and won and showed the tabloids they had gone too far. That is when the stories pretty much dried up.

Beyoncé and Jay Z, if there is nothing to the rumors, need to stop feeding the trolls and live their lives, but they seem way too determined to prove they are just fine. Which translates as “break up imminent” to the tabloids.

    • mikeal says:

I won’t be surprised if Beyonce and Jay-Z are not on some level enjoying all these rumours, their ‘perfect couple/family’ image may have been tarnished by the elevator incident, but on the other hand it made the press and the public at large (whether you like them or not )more interesting in what’s going on with them. They stopped being boring.

Beyonce has her HBO show and their tour is selling well and getting good reviews. I haven’t gone to the tour but form what I’ve read the show seemed to be built around the up and down of a relationship and plays with a lot of the media speculation about their relationship.

  9. Halah says:

Imagine if she just left Jay – Katie Holmes style, on the sly.

  10. Eleonor says:

I am starting to think this might be the biggest pr stunt ever.

  11. lisa2 says:

It is really crazy how that Elephant in the room clouds everything about Beyonce and Jay now.

The whole Solange elevator drama won’t go away. And no matter how many happy family pictures they put out. No matter how many awards or even their tour can’t erase that scene. It is a constant and whatever the narrative they are putting out there now The Solange Elevator fight is always hanging there.
Beyonce’s reaction to me made it worst and the fact that she didn’t do anything to stop it, went with her sister after, made sure to put it out there in pictures and actions that she and her sister were still very close.. all spoke to the idea that Solange was justified and Beyonce supported that action.

That incident has left its mark on their relationship; and the way they released the joint statement didn’t help at all.

Just show hows ONE incident One crack just messes up the whole structure.

Who could have seen that coming.

    • MCraw says:

It really is interesting. I’ve never seen one already bad incident open such a can of worms for any celebrity. Whatever it ends up being, Beyoncé will not lose- it’s win-win no matter the outcome, if she stays or leaves. I’m surprised Jay didn’t factor her leaving if he kept up his shady ways. He will be ripped in the press as he already is, and the toll seems to be taking as he’s lost lotsa weight. The rumors with him and Rihanna have been around before the marriage. I wonder if any of this will effect her in any way. If she’s involved, I hope it does.

      • Leaflet says:

Tbh, I don’t think Rhianna is messing around with JayZ. I remember reading a Rhianna interview in a mag article. I don’t remember the name of the mag, and it’s definitely been a while ago, but she addressed the rumors about her having an alleged affair with JayZ. Rhianna said she’s never had one with JayZ. She said that it was really weird for her because people actually thought it was true, and herself and others close to her were being affected by the vicious rumors. Rhianna said her mother had to quit her job that she’s been employed with for years because her coworkers thought that she (Rhianna) was having an affair with JayZ, and so they were treating her mother awfully and telling her that she (her mother) should be ashamed of herself for raising her daughter to be that way. They (Mother’s coworkers) said she should have a talk with her daughter about going after married men. Rhianna said that she can take the heat and face the rumors because it goes along with her job, but it truly upset her that her mom received vitriol and had to deal with the harassment and vicious lies from people who were over invested in the media’s lies and rumors.
I Know I would be angry if someone did this to my mother if I were famous, geez.

      • Kate says:

Tom Cruise’s couch-jumping opened him up to a lot of speculation. He’d always been so private, so suddenly opening up so much gave people permission to start digging into other area’s of his life. He’d said some weird Scientology related stuff before, the gay rumours had always been there etc., but until the Oprah episode no one had really scratched below the surface of all that. After that incident it was open season.

Beyonce actually reminds me of Cruise. They’re both extremely hard workers who come off like robots, both extremely private until suddenly and inexplicably deciding to massively overshare (Tom with Katie obviously, Beyonce from the pregnancy announcement onwards).

  12. Amy says:

There’s a precedent for divorce touring, and it occurred in 1982 when Richard Thompson told his wife Linda – who’d just given birth to their third child – that he was leaving her for someone else. Here’s a vid of a performance from that tour. (You can also find articles about the tour.)

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

Love 70’s rock breakup dramas! Richard Thompson fan but what a d*ck move, I didn’t realise it was so soon after she had his kid. Imagine Beyonce breaking out Fleetwood Mac’s breakup anthem “Go Your Own Way” – that would be amazeballs.

      • Leaflet says:

        @ Amy & Mrs. Darcy,
A break up soundtrack for Beyoncé to sing in concert at her inevitable breakup tour? I like this idea, lol. I’m going to open up room for more suggestions down thread. 🙂

  13. Val says:

Maybe they’re moving to a building where there are no cameras in the elevators.

  14. Ciria says:

It would be so epic if Jay hooked up with Gwyneth Paltrow.

  15. Laura says:

They will either have another baby, or get divorced. One extreme or another

  16. Wilma says:

I just don’t see Jay-Z and Rihanna really being a thing. No way that Rihanna would be discreet, that woman is an open book.
It is strange that people have been pushing the elevator-incident as Solange standing up for her sister instead of Solange doing something pretty abnormal. Still think that the whole incident has more to do with something with Solange than being some sort of legitimate attack on the man who hurt her sister.
I could see problems in their marriage, but I don’t think that those problems are in full view for us to see.

    • Lucinda says:

To me, the thing that made it about the marriage was how Beyonce just stood there and watched it happen. Her body language said nothing to indicate any desire to defend J. If my sister (whom I love dearly) went off on my husband, I would be in the middle of it. I would not just stand and watch. That is what made it so weird to me.

      • Kaylah says:

I’ve watched that video way too many times. Don’t judge me.
Anyway what I noticed after continuous watching was Beyonce kept talking to her husband and not Solange maybe she knows Solange has fits of rage and decided the calmer person was the one to talk to who knows and she also stood between them at certain times.

I think watching the video initially when you don’t see her immediately jump between them you think she’s crazy but after watching it more than once, she didn’t just stand there.

      • jwoolman says:

Lucinda- I hope for your sake that you would never try to get between someone like Solange and her target, especially if there was a trained professional right there protecting the target. You would be interfering with the professional doing his job, and you could get seriously hurt in the crossfire. Solange was NOT rational. She was blind with fury. B has undoubtedly seen her like this before and very wisely kept out of it, and then accompanied her sister to calm her after the episode was over. This is all about Solange and her internal control problems, which need treatment or else she’ll end up in prison. Just hope she never has a gun or knife in her hand when she has another episode.

      • Jarredsgirl says:

        jwoolman are you for real?

        “solange and her target”
        “seriously hurt in crossfire”
        “NOT rational”
        “Blind with fury”
        “Episode”,” Internal control problems”
        “Treatment”, “prison”, “knife”, “gun”.

Going over the top a bit aren’t you? Most of these words do not need to be associated with Solange.

    • MCraw says:

It can go either way. He could destroy her career if she weren’t discreet. There were BIs that she called the house and told Bey everything. He kept his distance from there. It explained why he suddenly had a hands off approach w her thereafter. She had distraught/lost-looking photos in the streets (boobs showing in pink bandeau top) around that time. It could all be BS blinds, but they have said she was flagrant and crossed the line w him and his household.

    • jwoolman says:

That struck me, too. I haven’t heard anything about Rihanna going with men who are Married With Children. She seems upfront about her relationships, no matter how stupid they are. She doesn’t seem interested in helping to break up families, as far as I know.

And yes, the Solange incident reflects on Solange alone. I saw the video. That is simply not normal behavior, no matter what the guy may have done or said. She was still trying to kick him while the bodyguard was holding her. She was aiming to injure, not defend. Solange will lose control someday when police do get involved and then she will be explaining herself to a judge (who hopefully will throw her into forced therapy and anger management rehab). I would worry about her son once he is firmly in the teenage years, she may find men a trigger and he will be in danger.

      • Val says:

I agree with you…. I really don’t think Rihanna would go for Jay-Z… I feel like they have more of a mentor-mentee relationship. Plus Rihanna likes ’em young and pretty (as she should).

  17. Leaflet says:

    Hey Fellow Celebitchers,
Let’s create a break up soundtrack for Beyoncé to taunt JayZ when she goes on her inevitable kickass ‘Strong Woman Tour’. I’m gonna submit these:
Rick Springfield: ‘I’ve Done Everything For You’
Phil Collins: ‘In The Air Tonight’
Go West: ‘King of Wishful Thinking’
Queen: ‘And another one Bites the Dust’
*Amy & Mrs. Darcy up thread mentioned ‘Go Your Own Way’ by Fleetwood Mac. 🙂 Don’t be afraid to add yours.

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

HOw about Led Zeppelin’s Heartbreaker. Anyway, kiddo on a previous post said it best: it isn’t about music; it’s one long advertisement for their brand – when something has to be pushed this much on the public, then maybe there just isn’t that much there to start with – way overrated and they sold out long ago. Nice to see their fake lives coming at least a little undone.

      • Leaflet says:

I Know, right. I should add these to the mix:
Kelis: ‘I Hate You So Much Right Now’
        JoJo: ‘Too Little Too Late’
All American Rejects: ‘Gives You Hell’
        🙂

    • Amy says:

Actually, all credit to Mrs. Darcy for “Go Your Own Way.”
      My off-the-cuff list would include
“Be My Enemy” by the Waterboys
“It’s Too Late” by Carole King
“Good Morning Heartache” by Irene Higginbotham/Erwin Drake/Dan Fisher
“I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett (Desmond Child, co-writer)
“I’m Alright” by Loudon Wainwright III
“Where Did Our Love Go?” by Brian Holland, Eddie Holland & Lamont Dozier (recorded and made famous by the Supremes, of course)
