Beyonce releases ‘Flawless’ remix to combat the rumors of marriage trouble

bey1

First thing’s first. Late Saturday/early Sunday, Beyonce dropped the Nicki Minaj remix of “Flawless” on her Tumblr. The remix includes some new lyrics that are very, very important to the ongoing Beyonce-Jay drama. The lyrics: “And we could go around and get some good karma, but no. We escalate, up in this bitch like elevators. Of course sometimes sh-t go down, when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.” Well, that’s one way to answer the questions from The Hive. You can hear the remix at Beyonce’s site, but I’m including the track below (some NSFW language):

So, are all of your questions answered? Yeah, not so much. But I kind of love her for addressing the drama in a remix of “Flawless”. It’s a better way to manage her PR than just publishing more Instagram pics. Speaking of, she did post more IG pics and she put a ton of new pics on her Tumblr. And she got People Mag to publish an “everything is fine, nothing to see here” article, which you can read here. It’s mostly just a recap of some of the rumors, with “sources” claiming that everything is good between Jay and Beyonce and they’ve even spent some downtime with Solange in NOLA. But! Page Six says it’s still a disaster:

Jay Z, Beyoncé, concert promoter Live Nation, HBO — and no less than four lawyers — have attended an emergency meeting Thursday to address the couple’s rapidly imploding marriage, The Post has learned. But while execs at the Thursday session wanted to put out a statement, Jay Z and Beyoncé declined — because they couldn’t agree on what it would say. Now officials fret that the couple’s $100 million On the Run Tour might be canceled before its scheduled finale.

“This may not make it to San Francisco,” a source said. “I’m definitely not sure that they’ll make it to Paris.”

The tour, which is promoted by Live Nation, was in LA this weekend and was to arrive in San Francisco for two shows beginning Monday. The finale is scheduled for Paris in September. HBO, meanwhile, plans to telecast a major special on the tour in September.

“There are lawyers that have now joined the tour, and they’re not here just to see them perform. They are here to help hash things out,” the source said.

The Post first reported that the power couple’s marriage was on the rocks and that Beyoncé was hunting for her own apartment. Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino and HBO chief Richard Plepler wanted the meeting before “this becomes a public-relations nightmare,” the source said, adding that HBO cameras have captured much of the performances and the network plans a major special in September.

“Rapino is pissed that everything is so out in the open and things are so heated,” the source said. It’s gotten so bad that the couple, who married in 2008, are living separate lives even on the tour. “They’re not just staying in different hotel rooms, but they have booked separate hotels, and they arrive separately to each show,” the insider said.

On stage and online, however, the stars have been playing the loving couple — with Jay Z snuggling Beyoncé during a show Wednesday night in Seattle. The source said that one of the problems in the marriage is Jay Z’s controlling nature and that, even now, the rap impresario won’t back off.

“They’ve had discussions lately about the inevitable sit-down interview when they finally do split, and Jay’s been adamant that he doesn’t want Beyoncé sitting down with Barbara Walters or Oprah Winfrey pretending to be the victim,” the source said. It’s estimated that Jay Z has a net worth of more than $550 million and Beyoncé about $300 million. But the source said it’s unclear who would get what in a divorce.

“From what I know, there’s no prenup.” the source said.

[From Page Six]

Damn, Page Six is really doubling-down and tripling-down on their ongoing reporting. It feels like they’re getting some (all?) of their information not from Team Yonce or Team Hova, but from the corporate types adjacent to the business of Beyonce and Jay, the corporate types who are worried about the associations now. Does anyone else find this hilarious: “Jay’s been adamant that he doesn’t want Beyoncé sitting down with Barbara Walters or Oprah Winfrey pretending to be the victim”? TOO BAD. That’s exactly what’s going to happen. Oprah will roll out the red carpet for Bey and OWN will air twenty exclusive special presentations featuring new interviews with Beyonce. That’s totally going to happen.

Nicki Minaj does so much better on guest tracks than her own.

    • almondey says:

haha yeah i’ve thought this for years. her guest appearance/featuring stuff is always so much better!

    • MonicaQ says:

Her spot on B.o.B’s “Outta My Mind” is brilliant.

    • TX says:

      +1000000
IMO her verse on “Monster” blows all the men on that track out of the water!
Also, she is hilarious on “Bottoms Up”

      • Tiffany27 says:

Her verse on Monster was SICK.

      • G. says:

This is why when people say Nicki’s talentless, I always disagree. Her own stuff might not be the greatest, but she is always the best part of her guest spots. She always kills it on other people’s songs.

And her part on Monster is the entire reason I listen to that song.

      • TX says:

@G. lol me too! I listen to Rick Ross at the beginning then FFW to Nikki!

    • Artemis says:

Onika stays the queen on guest tracks. Flopping on her own too, such a shame. I don’t know why she doesn’t allow herself to slay everybody in the rap game because she is CAPABLE.

    • MaiGirl says:

Completely agree. I wonder why that is, though? She is very talented, but doesn’t seem to have the ability to edit her own ideas well enough. She might need to work with more collaborators on her own stuff.

    • Bridget says:

I hate to admit it, but I already LOVE “Bang Bang”

  2. bns says:

    I love it.

    • Janet Planet says:

Bey & Z are using the video rumours to sell tickets and now they don’t even have to pay for advertising ’cause The New York Post is plugging their tour for free. There is no leak and never has been – it’s their PR-team and they are #winning.

      • BOXES full of Pepe says:

        Yep, stunt queens be stuntin’.

      • HappyMom says:

I understand that they’re getting tons of press-but it’s for having marital problems. I don’t see how they “need” that kind of attention. I’m the first to be cynical-but I just don’t see how this is their PR.

      • kibbles says:

It could be both. The rumors are helping sell tickets but I don’t think this is the particular type of PR that Beyonce and Jay want simply becuse there is probably a lot of truth to these rumors. A lot of people believe it is a sham marriage. Even if Beyonce and Jay decide to stick together doesn’t make the rumors false. It is likely just a business decision but I believe they are annoyed that a good number of people don’t believe that their relationship is real at this point.

      • T.C. says:

The breakup may have some truth but it’s being allowed to ride for more publicity for the tour: see Bey and Jay together for the last time.

Adding in the elevator assault to the new remix is beyond trashy. Using your husband’s assault by your sister for entertainment is a new low point for Beyoncé.

      • Maria says:

Yup! I completely agree!!! It’s a P.R. stunt. I used to love them separately and as a couple but now I’m just sick and tired of all these bs…

      • Louise177 says:

Claiming the rumors are for ticket sales is ridiculous. Most of the biggest rumors didn’t start until a couple of weeks. Why start rumors at the end not beginning of the tour? More importantly why are people so sure others will pay hundreds of dollars to see people they don’t care about and waste their time in the process?

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hope they handle this in a way that’s healthy for their little girl.

    • Charlotte says:

Yep! Let’s hope they can put their egos aside for a little while and concentrate on what’s best for her. My parents split when I was very young and it was bad enough catching snide remarks from other parents at school dos who knew of the animosity and ‘scandal’. Can’t imagine having my pain being a cover story that I’d still be able to access decades later.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, I’m sorry. Those parents who made snide remarks to an innocent little girl should be slapped.

  4. Ciria says:

Why would anyone want to be associated with Nicki Minaj? She is so trashy.

    • Diana says:

I don’t know. I find her much more endearing than than most of her contemporaries: Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, for example.

      • Ciria says:

Eh, the way she slagged Iggy onstage while accepting her award, and kept talking about it after the fact made her sound very bitter. That’s not endearing, IMO. It’s pretty sad.

      • G. says:

Eh. If I were Nicki, and I had to watch people talk about how Iggy “took my spot” as the top female rapper, I’d be pretty pissed too. There’s no contest there on who’s more talented, and it’s obvious America is thirsty for a non threatening white girl to be on top, even if she sucks.

        I’d be pissed too.

      • Val says:

Not sure if I would call Iggy “non-threatening”… and to be honest, there’s enough space in rap for two trashy pop female rappers. Wish more people would pay attention to Angel Haze… now that girl… insane talent. But less mainstream.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Nicki is a complete terror. She is a petty person who has no problems screaming at people for no reason, or throwing projectiles at people while they are trying to do their jobs. She’s obnoxious.

I think Nicki is marginally talented…better than Iggy in the studio, but barely. Nicki is horrible live, she has no stage presence and has to lip sync.

  5. QQ says:

This is Going To my running/driving Track TO-DAY.Com… and Anaconda Too Tumblr and People talking smack about the Innapropriateness of Nicki Minaj has Only made me start to love her a Little bit (nvm she toned the eFF down of her awful initial costumes or whatever the hell the things on her head were, AND came off pretty great in Idol and other interviews…and not for nothing but Girl can Spit!)

    • Becky says:

She’s super talented. Her rhymes are excellent and the beats are ideal for running. Also, my job involves speaking clearly and often very fast, and instead of tongue twisters and other exercises, I can use the part in which she raps really fast to practice.

    • Mmhmm says:

Ooooh I love her to death now too lol. Have you heard her newest collab with Usher? Also pills and potions is still my jam.

      • QQ says:

LOL I sat out Pills and Potions but ..CHIRAQ?! Jesus Xavier Christ!??

Still her verse on Monster was just like ..oh ok well you bested all these dudes at their own track!

      • HH says:

@QQ – I listened to Chiraq and was more confused than impressed, although everyone seems to love the track. It seems to be celebrating violence (but let me know if I’m mis-interpreting). The violence on the southside is out of control.

      • Mmhmm says:

I like Jesus Xavier Christ a lot. My jam lol.

    • Sozual says:

Lol! Nicki has great flow, but her content is the same crap as everyone elsa. In Monster all she talked about is how much money she makes, clothes, and her body. Best part in Monster was Kanye and the end with Bon Iver singing, ” I-I crossed the line-line
and I’ll-I’ll let God decide-cide I-I wouldn’t last these shows so I-I am headed home.” If you want to build up a dedicated audience you have to travel around and perform for free. People don’t want to put the work in.

  6. Nev says:

    Nah.

This is so cringe and so unnesssssary. Didn’t she give a statement already about it being a private issue within the family? So why sing about it now? Extra.

  7. eliza says:

I am so confused by the Post and their desperation to make this split happen. I do NOT buy for one minute that execs are worried about the tour. Say what you will about Jay-Z and Beyonce but one thing they are is driven professionals. They are not quitting the tour. End of story. They did not amass a fortune by being stupid.

I also fail to understand why “rumors” of a split would be a PR nightmare for the tour. People do not go to concerts because they care about the relationship of band members. They go to see a show and hear music. If anything, split rumors would peak interest not scare people off.

I don’t even like these two but these Post stories are becoming old very quickly. I hope, just to annoy the Post, that Jay-Z and Beyonce stay together for many years to come.

    • Tiffany27 says:

I agree. The Post is looking desperate and it’s borderline creepy.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

+1 to everything you said Eliza.

    • Jess G. says:

I agree. The tour will continue and finish regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes.

As for the rest of it… That’s between them. And while I don’t think they’re going to split, I’m tired of the continuous speculation.

    • Cynthia says:

Exactly. And you know this story is false cos we all know they have a prenup. Nice try, page six

    • danielle says:

I don’t think they’ll quit the tour either..purposeful hype to sell tickets? The last time to see jay z and Beyonce!!! But their tickets seem to be selling well, so why would they do that?

    • An says:

Exactly. Agree 100%. What is with all these people salivating over divorce rumors? Beyonce posted tons of photos on her Instagram and Tumblr before. This site even used them when they wrote about Beyonce! Ridiculous.

    • emma says:

My opinion: everyone wins. The Post gets blasted because of their non-stop doubling down of a split, Beyonce and Jay-Z are being talked about non-stop, and the execs are super happy because of free press for the final shows in September in Paris. Also, what better way to get seat ticket sales up in San Fran (and other cities) than by saying “hey hurry up and watch the show, you don’t know when it’ll end and there will never be another Jay/Bey show together ever”.

    • Bubulle says:

I think their relationship has been troubled ever since they got together but they have learned to deal with it for the sake of their business, this time is no different except they have a big tour to promote.

    • Artemis says:

The Noel brothers pretty much made fights their ‘thing’. They were still successful. So many people pay/paid for artists who consistently underperform(ed) or don’t give a crap (Amy Winehouse, Bieber, those 1D kids who literally sit down at times lazy sods) yet 2 highly professional people who MIGHT split up are cause for concern? Hell no, B and J never disappoint, slag them off for anything but their professionalism. It just doesn’t make sense.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

100% agree with everything you said, eliza.

    • Tiffany :) says:

“If anything, split rumors would peak interest not scare people off.”

Exactly. If anything, it is a “catch them together while you can!” kind of marketing strategy.

  8. MonicaQ says:

Everyone seems desperate to make this happen for some reason.

  9. Kristen says:

Rhyming elevator with elevator is so stupid. She should’ve said “like escalators” in the first part. How hard is that?

    • Cynthia says:

You can put out yours and rhyme whatever with whatever. This is funny but it’s her song and she can sing whatever

    • Val says:

It initially probably did say ‘escalators’ but Beyoncé changed it so she would get writing credits.

    • Whatwhatnot says:

It’s sloppy and lazy rhyming. But Bey ain’t no lyricist and just because she is married to a good rapper doesn’t maker her one. These are weak but again, I don’t expect much from either of these women’s rhymes. It’s hip-Pop. so it’s not that serious. NAs KRS-1 Rakim, MC Lyte and Common they are not lol.

  10. Cynthia says:

Lol. Kaiser really want this couple to split. I don’t think they will. If they do despite all the pda on stage and her instagram posts then they are good actors and we all know Queen Bey can’t act. And I hope they stay together since people need a divorce soo bad. You have to attend their concert to get what I’m talking about. I also love that Beyoncé is still posting instagram pictures like she always does. But of course some people think it’s to combat rumours. Whatever. I love this couple

  11. Faye says:

This may sound conspiracy-theory-ish, but I suspect Jay and Beyonce are actually the ones feeding this. Page Six is usually legit, so maybe the companies are told to give them information. And look at the stuff Beyonce’s been posting (the remix being just the most recent example) – she knows she’s feeding into the crazy. Maybe it’s just publicity for them. And it’s working! Look at all the attention these two and their tour are getting. I suspect the rumors and Page 6 columns will last as long as their tour, and then they’ll resume their normal life (whatever normal is for them).

    • Lee says:

I’m inclined to believe this as well. Any publicity is good publicity, and these two use the machine to their advantage always.

    • OriginallyBlue says:

I buy this more than any other theory. These two love attention and will do anything for it.

    • lucy2 says:

I’m starting to think this too – they’re definitely feeding into it.

    • WTF says:

      AGREED!
This is brilliant marketing for them. I do think their marriage is a complete sham, but I think all this talk about them breaking up is just to keep their names in the media.

    • bns says:

Duh. Nothing about Beyonce and Jay Z gets out unless they want it to. The elevator video was a rare misstep for them.

They’ve been together all of these years and no sources have ever gone behind their backs and leaked info and now all of a sudden sources are coming out of the woodwork left and right speaking exclusively to Page Six? Yeah, right….

    • HappyMom says:

I really have a hard time believing they’re behind this. I know they’re attention whores but they get plenty of attention without all of this talk about an imminent split.

  12. TX says:

I don’t love it. It’s a clumsy attempt to address the altercation in one of her better songs on the new album. The verse just doesn’t really fit in the song, to me.

Do you guys think Bey and Jay are the ones leaking this info for press…? I kinda think so, but maybe not. This whole divorce thing goes totally against the prefect partnership image they work so hard to present.

  13. Bubulle says:

I think they were caught off guard with that elevator tape and now they decided to turn the tables by using the bad publicity to promote themselves, business means everything to them, it will be business as usual once their tour is over, no more break up rumours.

    • karen says:

Exactly. You don’t dissolve a billion dollar company in 3 months. I believe they’re in love/like/mutual respect… whatever you wanna call it and they’re going to return to regularly scheduled programming once they’ve cut their cheque from this tour. They could have either chased their tails trying to combat the rumors or they can say nothing, and feed the frenzy with their music and social media. I’ve read more about this on the run tour, then their last few tours combined.

  14. pretty says:

why is he “Queen B” ? who crowned her? the lyrics are cringe-fest. i don’t get it.. are we costumers supposed to pay money to listen to this nonsense “i’m the shit i’m the shit” ? lol

  15. LeahMommy says:

In her tumblr pics, she seems to always be in the most beautiful locations, always perfectly manicured places.

  16. lw says:

We all know that they are not going to quit the tour, no matter what. And aren’t there only a few dates left anyway? Silly speculation…
I do think it is very telling that they stay in different hotels on tour, though.

  17. TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

When they do these collaborations, are the performers even in the same building, or is it done digitally and remotely, and i’m no fan as these tacky one-dimensional narcissists. Wasn’t nicki minaj caught lip synching – ha, a lip synching rapper, Imagine Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury or Michael Hutchence back in the day lip synching. Why should I respect her, or buy her crappy music?

  18. Artemis says:

I love the track. I love her screams and swearing. Of course, we all saw that she wasn’t that bold and silly when shoes came flying above her beautiful weave and legs were karate chopping her husband but gf sure knows how to make lemonade from lemons. Cashing in on the scandal with the help of the good sis Onika. Goddamn B 🙂

  19. Jenny12 says:

I must say I love how she shows off her daughter without showing her face.

  20. Carmelita says:

    Yawn. Whatever, idiot no-talent.
