Pete Doerty arrested for drug posession, gets around implant w/ cocaine & pot

It doesn’t seem like that implant is working too well for dear Doherty. He was busted this weekend for posession of crack cocaine and pot.

Doherty’s rap sheet is lengthy and hard to keep up with, but here’s the highlights:

  • In February, 2006 he received 12 months community order (I think that is like a year’s probation) for seven charges of drug possession.
  • In April, 2006 he received two year’s supervision and 18 months of rehab (which must have been outpatient) for pleading guilty to another seven counts of possession that included heroin, cocaine and pot.
  • In July, 2006 a judge praised his progress and said he was headed in the right direction and could just be drug tested once a week instead of twice a week.
  • In November, 2006, he was busted for possession again, this time for crack cocaine, which he once told a reporter “makes me happy.”
  • Over the weekend he was pulled over and was found to have drugs in his car:

British newspaper The Sun reports police found Doherty in possession of crack cocaine and cannabis. After spending the night in police custody, Doherty was released on bail on Sunday (06May07). The arrest comes just three weeks after Doherty appeared in Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London, where Judge Jane MCIvor praised the singer for his determination to beat his drug habit.

Earlier reports had Pete checking into rehab on the day of his girlfriend Kate Moss’ clothing line launch at British retailer Top Shop, but he was seen bringing a large bunch of flowers to her house that day, so it was assumed that he received an implant to help him kick drugs and was released.

From what I could gather, drug implants deliver the medication naltrexone, which blocks the effects of opiate drugs including heroin and methadone. Drugs like cocaine and pot would still be effective for an implant wearer.

Here’s a revealing list of Pete Doherty’s many drug busts, bust ups and court appearances.
