Madonna’s beachwear involves layers, a muumuu & a hat: funny or ridiculous?

FFN_Madonna_Lourdes_GTRES_081914_51505435

Madonna and her kids usually go on holiday at some point every summer. They have something extra to celebrate this summer: Lourdes Leon has graduated from high school! So Lola came to Ibiza with her super-embarrassing mom and her mom’s entourage. These are some photos from the group outing yesterday.

Almost everyone in the group is wearing light summer clothes, t-shirts and shorts or light skirts. Not Madonna. Madonna is a Death Eater who can never, ever be in the sun. Which is fine, in general, but why go to the beach then?! Nicole Kidman doesn’t like to get in the sun either, but you don’t see her swaddled in an ace-bandage, thermal, long-sleeved blouse PLUS a giant muumuu while AT THE BEACH.

I kind of wonder if Madonna chose Ibiza this year because she heard that all of the cool kids (Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber) were partying in Ibiza this year. She’s like three weeks too late on it though. Too bad! She’s got to find some way to impress her new boyfriend. Madge and Brahim Zaibat broke up at some point and she immediately started up with a 26-year-old dancer named Timor Steffens. You can see a photo of him here – I can’t tell if he’s part of this group in Ibiza, but I would think he probably is. Madonna likes to travel with her boyfriends (so they can babysit the younger kids).

Madge also turned 56 this past weekend. Looking through her Instagram, I see that she partied with a very hammered-looking Kate Moss. As one does. Madge also posted this photo of Rocco (OMG HE’S SO BIG) with the message, “Jeff Spicoli is alive and well in the South of France! #boom #fuzzy”. Um… Rocco is Guy Ritchie’s son and Madonna has dressed him up like her ex-husband?

Those arm-sleeve things make her look like a mummy. I honestly don’t get this whole look. I suppose she figures now that she’s pushing 60 (eek) she needs to protect every inch of skin from the sun? But then why bother going to Ibiza?

    • Eames says:

Madonna has never been a sun person, and she has always covered up when she’s outside. Why does she need to hide away because she chooses to protect her skin from the sun’s harmful rays? Madonna’s mother also died of cancer, albeit breast cancer; but if cancer is in your family, you should be very cautious about any form of cancer.

      • LadyMTL says:

I’m not a sun person either – and my stepdad died of skin cancer – so I understand why she would want to cover up, there’s nothing wrong with that. But come on, she looks ridiculous. There are so many stylish ways to cover your body and *not* look like a mummy, lol. 😛

    • K says:

I don’t take issue with her covering up while participating ina family outing/vacation. It’s the choice of clothes. Actually, that b/w print cover up would be gorgeous if she chose a different hat, sunglasses, and less cast-like rash guard arm covering. There are lots of attractive, fashionable options for sun protection these days.

She must know that color suits her much better than black. I love the color black but even I know to take care with how it ages me.

  2. Belle Epoch says:

Isn’t this why we have sunscreen?

    • FingerBinger says:

I think there are chemicals in sunscreen that make people apprehensive about using it. That’s why many people don’t use anything and just cover up.

    • Chris says:

Sunscreens so absolutely nowt for me…..it’s all burn, regardless. I don’t care about ageing etc, but I hate the discomfort, so I cover up. I know Madge wouldn’t burn like me, and is protecting herself for other reasons but why not? I remember Nigella donning a great black tent for a dip in the sea, quite reasonable!
I’d enjoy a day at the beach if I were covered up.

      • Chris says:

PS to my own comment….with her Italian heritage she’d doubtless tan very easily and swiftly….and ageing concerns apart, she’s always embraced the creamy pale-skinned look instead.

      • anna says:

Actually this is not true. The people mostly in nothern Italy and in some parts in the Middle of the country are pretty fair. I’m nothern italian girl with blonde hair and blue eyes and my super fair complexion is pretty common over there, probably because we had centuries of Germanic and slavic invasions. And I cannot tan, even in the summer. I usually sunburn easily. Another matter is the southern part of the country, when the complexion is more meditteranean because of the greek, arab heritage. In Usa the overlwheming majority of the Italian Americans are from the South of Italy, that’s why you had this stereotype.
ps-sorry for my grammar mistakes, English is actually my third language.:)

      • Chris says:

Anna. My apologies if I am stereotyping above. I should probably have expanded it to include ‘dark hair’ at the very least, as surely Madge exemplified that type of Italian colouring when young.

      • anna says:

No, don’t worry. But there is this misconception of the italians in Usa,probably because,as I stated above, the majority are of southern italian extraction who they are darker in coloring. As for Madonna,I think she can tan a bit but not too much. Her complexion is too much fair for having a golden healthy glow.

      • Francis says:

Madonna may have really sensitive skin. I can’t wear sunscreen it makes my skin swell and get rashy, way too many chemicals.
Like Madge I cover up in the Sun .
I like that she owns it, whatever she wears.

  3. Eleonor says:

I think it’s her way to avoid sunbathing.
I’ve seen photos of Lola in bikini and she is gorgeus! My God it seems yesterday she was a toddle on a VF cover…and now she is going to college. Say what you want about Madonna but she is one of the few celebrities who values education for her kids.

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

Madge is going to have to start keeping a tight leash on her boyfriends soon. I would think a man in his 20’s is going to think Lola (once she is legal) much more attractive than Mom!

  4. Oppie says:

Ridiculous, why even bother going to the beach? But, I do love the hat.

  5. MrsBPitt says:

Madonna just wants everyone to look at her…if she was at the North Pole, she would be wearing a bikini…She is waaaay too try hard!

  6. Cora says:

I often dress like this when I go to the beach. My skin doesn’t tolerate high SPF very well, so sometimes I prefer to cover up instead. Why go to the beach? Because my friends and family are there and I like being with them. We often pack a nice lunch and I enjoy sharing the day with them. Beaches are beautiful where I live and I love spending the day in beautiful places. I also love the sound of the ocean. Why should those of us who are sensitive to the sun be deprived of those things?

    • ncboudicca says:

      This.

    • Adrien says:

Physical blocks like zinc oxide are OK. They make you look ghoulish but they are appropriate at the beach. They protect the skin better than clothing.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

They make special clothing intended to block the sun. I think that’s what the white sleeves are. Sorry if you already knew that.

    • Mata says:

I hate defending Madonna, but I’m with her on this one. My skin burns very easily and I’ve several burns in my life that actually required medical attention. Sunscreen just isn’t that effective on me. I go to the beach because I love the beach, water, and I love swimming. I just don’t get on well with the sun. I use a long sleeve rashguard, which is what I suspect she’s wearing and a hat. I don’t care what I look like as long as I get to go to the beach and don’t have to go through the pain of a burn.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yup, that’s me in the rash guard and a hat, huddled under the umbrella with a book, occasionally coming out for a dip. I can’t stand Madonna, but if my family wants a day at the beach, I want to go too, and you do what you gotta do. I can use the highest SPF sunscreen, but if I’m there all day, I still burn. Who needs it?

    • Mean Hannah says:

This is what I look like at the beach now. For those of you who say: use a sunblock, well, for some of us, it does not work for more than 30 min. I stayed away from beaches for most of my 40 years, but now that I have a son, who loves beaches, this is what I have to wear. And take sun tents.

    • phlyfiremama says:

Thank you Cora. Good grief, the intolerance and lack of compassion for dressing to protect your skin from a very harmful sun is ridiculous. I burn easily and rarely tan~my skin is so fair, and since I am 49 and came from the age of sunscreen that was a whopping SPF 4 it meant I got a lot of sunburns when I was younger~which makes me a prime candidate for skin cancer. I am all about covering up when I go to the beach, ESPECIALLY my face, and if I am going to be there for more than a couple of hours I cover up in layers of clothes as well as sunblock/sunscreen. Its protecting yourself, not a “look at MEEE” fashion statement.

      • phlyfiremama says:

Also, Vitiligo is a possible condition that neccesitates covering up in the sun~there is NO melanin in the affected areas.

    • lirko says:

A girl after my own heart, Cora. I live in Florida, am super fair, and prefer to stay that way. It’s highly inconvenient, but worth it when my dermatologist told me she could tell I took great care of my skin.

    • Francis says:

      +1 Same.

  7. sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

I guess I’ll be defending Madonna, though the outfit is horrific…
I like to go to beach, not just for sunbathing but also to go for walks or be with friends, take pictures of the landscapes, sightseeing, etc ..
I even go to the beach in winter, when it’s raining… it’s just magnificent…
So, in everyone’s opinion, one just goes to the beach for sunbathing? She’s visiting Ibiza, she went to the beach for a stroll, with her clothes on.. nothing wrong with that.. except the crazy outfit… could have chosen something nicer…

    • Lady Macbeth says:

I hate to defend her too but regardless of the horrible outfit she is right to cover herself up.

  8. Jayna says:

Madonna has gotten so weird in a bad way.

And she has been in the sun in a bikini sometimes or at least t-shirts over his bikini or one-piece years ago. As she’s gotten older, she doesn’t want to be shot in the bright light showing any of her aging is probably most of the reason for the huge cover-ups. But it’s the cover-ups she wears which are so ugh. She always looks like an old woman. At least she used to wear things like wetsuit type pants or shorts and long-sleeved t-shirts and a cute hat and looked fine on the beach while still protected.

Madonna with Guy Ritchie in a bikini in her 40s on set playing around while filming. Her body was fantastic. She had lost some of her boobs from having babies, but other than that, she looked great. I get not wanting paps to get unflattering shots of you to put in The Enquirer mocking women’s bodies as they get older, but she dresses so odd that she looks like a 70-year-old covering up.

Remember when Madonna was cheeky and funny and not so stuffy and with boy toy after boy toy? Here she is on set with Guy Ritchie practicing her dancing scene in a bikini and Guy and Madonna having fun. I miss irreverent Madonna who looked great in jeans and now all we see is Madonna in bizarre granny outfits when not on camera or always wearing her fingerless gloves no matter where she is. She needs a strong man who will get her out of her bizarre midlife crisis and bring her back to something different than selfies in her bathroom of her crotch or boobs pushed up to her neck in a bra.

Madonna and Guy bantering back and forth about her dancing scene on the beach. They were once so cute together. She was 44.

    • Artemis says:

She’s wearing a wetsuit underneath. The new pictures show it.

And I’ve seen pictures from when Lourdes was still a child/tween and she covered up http://www.madonnalicious.com/images/extra/2006/in_270706_news.jpg so it’s not like a ‘strong man’ aka a happy relationship stopped her from wearing clothes that prevent sun damage. Not everything can be chalked up to a ‘midlife crisis’. 2006 was the last era of Fun Madonna.

I think her style in the last 5 years or so is simply her preferring comfort over style. She likes baggy clothes now and she was always a pragmatist. Her style just evolved for the worse. And it’s not like her Ed Hardy period was so great. In fact, when she is papped doing work (either working out or running around to go to meeting or whatever) she often wore clothing that weren’t that flattering. She only looks ‘pretty’ when she is papped going out to dinner, attending premieres or partying. In any other case, her casual style has always been hit and miss.

Besides, Nigella Lawson and Angelina Jolie don’t seem to be big fans of a tan either (the former wore a burkini and the latter always wears sacks). No it’s not flattering and I wouldn’t wear it but it’s their choice and style tbh.

  9. halfpint says:

Could that possibly be a wetsuit under the wrap? The material on the arms and bodice sure make it look so? In any case, I’m with others – I keep myself bundled up at the beach due to the sensitivity of my skin. No shade here for Madge going to the beach like this…

    • mata says:

It looks like a long sleeve rash guard. Much lighter than an actual wetsuit, but gives good coverage.

  10. Bltrx says:

If I remember correctly, Madonna has always hidden her body when on the beach. I even remember an early 90s photo of her on the beach all covered up. So this is not the first time.

  11. Jem says:

I half-expected to read that she hooked up with Beiber at some point. Maybe thats why she’s trolling Ibiza: for some Beiber dick…

  12. Rachel says:

She looks frail, how is that possible?

    • Esmom says:

Agreed, she is giving off elderly lady vibes. Not much strength or energy evident.

    • Sullivan says:

I don’t care that she’s covered up, in fact, I get it. Sun damage, skin cancer, etc. But she has looked frail lately and that’s a little disconcerting. Her quest for eternal youth has backfired.

    • Artemis says:

Because she is already naturally thin and thanks to her vigorous workouts, she has no body fat whatsoever.

However, looks can be deceiving as her energy and strength are apparent when touring and praised by her dancers who are half her age.

    • Kate2 says:

I think its just the clothes. They age her. I get why she is doing it, so no “shade” (har har) from me on it, but its not flattering. But if you look at all the pics in the group, (I think Lainey has them), she’s climbing up rocks and stuff by herself. She’s only helped once, as she’s stepping onto a boat.

  13. Esmom says:

I get covering up at the beach to a certain degree but she looks ridiculous. And Rocco strikes me as a tool.

  14. eliza says:

She looks like some crazy old lady wrapped up like that.

Why bother going to the beach wrapped up like a damn burrito?

Hello, there are such things as sunscreen.

    • Chris says:

Well, if so, all I can say is ‘Crazy old ladies of the world, unite!’ We have rights too, and if we wish to swathe ourselves thus for a day at the beach, we WILL!
We’re ‘old ladies’, hear us ROAR!!!! 😉

  15. Dolce crema says:

Her glasses are bad too, I just have really different taste I guesS

  16. capepopsie says:

So what? We all get older. Get over it.
    🙂

  17. Jenny12 says:

My daughter’s best friend is Muslim and when she swims, she wears a very specific type of outfit her faith is permitted to wear. It’s kind of like a scuba outfit with a skirt attached and I LOVE IT. I asked her aunt, who brought the outfit from their country and is going back for another visit, if she’d bring me one and I’d give her the money for it. She thought I was kidding, but I don’t like the sun. So I am getting one and couldn’t be happier. As for Madonna, I still think looking at her daughter, in the full flush of youth and with Madonna’s beauty, must bring her some envy. She can’t stop time and is nearly 60 and she still wants to be 25. It’s sad when people can’t accept where they are in life.

    • moo says:

omg, that sounds like an awesome outfit. i’m photosensitive and will get dizzy if i get too much direct sunlight. long sleeves and sun hats for me!

  18. Beatrice says:

That costume makes her look like Norma Desmond, the aging actress in Sunset Blvd.

  19. Mia says:

I see a mom going to the beach for her kids even though it isn’t her thing. Not something she’s doing for publicity so who the hell cares what she’s wearing. I’m sure her kids mocked her enough for the outfit, she doesn’t need us doing it.

  20. Diana says:

She’s going to age and not look 35 anymore, no matter what she does. I wish she’d just accept it. It’s more fun, I think, to booze/sun it up and enjoy life than desperately fight a losing battle.

  21. Mrs McCubbins says:

I love to waterski and stand up paddle but am fair skinned and dont like to tan. I ‘m super sensitive to sunscreen but have found Jose Maran makes a good one, Argon oil with a zinc mixture. It works well and I have yet to burn. As for Madonna’s beach attire, weird!

  22. Jane says:

She always said Sean was the love of her life. It must be sad to see him with what’s -her-name. I bet she wished Rocco was his son. It’s sad she’s only got boy toys and no mate. Glad her daughter is doing so well, beautiful girl.

  23. escondista says:

    Plastic melts in the sun.

  24. moo says:

She’s probably paranoid about getting wrinkles i.e. the sun.

  25. Sansa says:

She fixed her front teeth about time

  26. melain says:

Madge is getting nuttier and nuttier. She looks like grandma Madge in this pic! I love grandma when she wears her white arm warmers.

  27. fancy says:

I am a redhead thus I cover up a lot in the sun too, otherwise I will get billions of freckles and burn…so i get the cover up part , but i don’t uderstand why she is wearing this particular outfit? it is absolutely horrible. What is wrong with a cotton tunic and pair of linen pants? Or for example a White linen or cotton shirt and a long flowing skirt or longer shorts? and a pair of cute flip flops? And those White sleeves are just the icing on the cake, it looks like she’s broken both arm and got them bandaged ffs. And instead of that over the top hat why not find a cap?

She has horrible taste all over and there are millions of fashionable ways to cover up while at the beach there’s no need to look like Norma Desmond.

  28. Lia B says:

it’s obvious that the old whore is covering up because she is now 58 or something and well into menopause, I imagine her skin has lost it’s suppleness and youthful shine and now looks like most any other woman of her age, wrinkly arms and all.
