Kate Upton surfaces in Emilio Pucci for the FMAs: basic or beautiful?

Kate Upton

Kate Upton attended the Fashion Media Awards on Friday night. She wore a white Emilio Pucci minidress that was pretty basic. Kate rarely brings it on the red carpet even though she’s stunning. I like the skirt’s subtle draping, but the top half looks uncomfortable. The dress needs some tailoring for sure. Those are Bulgari jewels. Kate won the Social Media award for being so active on Twitter and Instagram. The title is bittersweet because Kate probably wants little to do with the internet right now.

This was Kate’s first real outing since her iPhone photos were stolen in the massive celeb hacking ring. Kate has said she’s pursuing legal action. These photos weren’t actually on Kate’s phone (they were on Justin Verlander’s phone), which complicates matters. Kate was definitely the target. Justin sort of (not really) issued a comment on the situation: “I keep my personal life personal. The focus for me is on the Detroit Tigers. I don’t want to take any focus away from this team and what we’re trying to accomplish. We’re in the middle of a pennant race.” Dude is not happy, and I don’t blame him.

Kendall Jenner was at the FCAs to present. She wore Marc Jacobs. These pants remind me of a wicker lawn chair. Kendall recently dropped “Jenner” from her professional name, which means she’s a real model.

This wasn’t a huge fashion event even though it’s part of NYFW. Alessandra Ambrosio wore a sequinned nightie that looks like crushed velvet from a distance. Laverne Cox showed up in a cute skirt that had a cheerleader effect. Coco Rocha looked fabulous in a white top and slit skirt. Dakota Fanning and Christy Turlington had some sort of tent-dress competition. Both of them can do better, but Dakota’s sandals elevate her ensemble to passable.

Definitely one of Kate’s best looks.

    • HH says:

Agreed. And it flatters her midsection.

      • emmie_a says:

It does not flatter her midsection at all. It actually draws attention to that area & that’s not a good thing

    • Anne tommy says:

Upton is very pretty. don’t like christy turlington’s dress. But I have always thought christy was the classiest looking of that generation of supermodels, and I am also a bit envious because she is married to Edward Burns…

  2. Wannabeparisian says:

Dakota fanning is so authentically fabulous in a sea of try hards

    • Bucky says:

Best of the bunch, no contest.

    • Sea Dragon says:

She’s a talent for sure but she’s not that pretty by Hollywood standards.

Little Miss Kardashian looks great but I will never, ever forget her last name and who her pimp mamma is.

      • snowflake says:

poor girl. no wonder she dropped her last name.

      • FLORC says:

Despite being from the womb of Kris I still have hopes she breaks away.
A friend said it always happens this way with American models. They fumble, enter rehab, blame all issues on their manager or in her case “momager” and emerge slightly damaged, but poised for a comeback. Then it’s a toss up to disfiguring plastic surgery.

And She’s not a Kardashian. She’s a Jenner. Her legs do not come from Kris or Robert Kardashian.

    • Chef says:

It’s her eyes. Everyone else has dead eyes, but Dakota’s are happy! And she doesn’t have the sunken in cheekbones and she’s actually smiling.

  3. Ice Queen says:

    I like Kendall’s and Coco Rocha’s outfits.

  4. Gurrrl says:

Why does laverne keep crossing her legs? Not that there’s anything wrong with it but I can’t help but notice she does it in every picture

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Not saying this is why, but I cross my legs for pictures because I’m not crazy about my knees, and the kind of takes them off display. Just a thought.

      • FLORC says:

Maybe that. Maybe it’s just a more comfortable or solid way to stand. Take pressure off 1 foot.

I think that with Dakota. She’s showcasing a shoe and taking pressure off of 1 foot. Her toes look like they’ve seen some gorgeously painful heels and need a break.

    • Bridget says:

Its a red carpet pose trick. If you notice, many many women do it (even in this gallery Christy Turlington and Dakota Fanning are both doing it) – Paris Hilton practically contorts herself. It’s just to make legs look skinnier, and to make the pose look better.

    • lucy2 says:

I think stylists or someone has told celebs it makes them look thinner in photos – almost all of them do it. Same with the hand on hip pose.

    • Reece says:

It also makes you look “curvier”. That’s why the hand on hip usually goes with crossed legs either to bring in the waist and/or jut the hip.
But in the extreme it looks ridic…ref: Bridget’s example of Paris Hilton and also Lea Michele.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I was all excited for some crazy Pucci print. I’m in love with them, so this was blaaaaahhh to me. Though Kate looks quite pretty, but I sort of want to pull the dress down a little and fix the top.

    • Frida_K says:

Yes, I was anticipating some groovy prints too, so when I saw the picture I thought: “whaaat?” and “meh.”

      Bo-ring!

    • kri says:

I would have liked Kate’s dress if the top fit better-as the article said. But I think she would benefit from some color, as well. I kinda feel like she’s literal vanilla. (did i use that correctly?)

    • Kellie says:

That was my first thought too! Ivory Pucci? What is the point of that!
Fabulous prints are Pucci, not some milkmaid looking ruffle bottom thing.

  6. Jewbitch says:

    I like the dress

  7. COSquared says:

    All are…ugh except that Pucci

  8. Emily says:

I have a very similar body type to Kate, so I always love seeing photos of her. The fact that she’s a major sex symbol makes me feel better about my own little pot belly.

  9. LIVEALOT says:

I want to see Coco in red hair

  10. Kiddo says:

I like Dakota’s entire look, except for her hair, the color, roots and styling of it. I don’t like anything else.

  11. Hissyfit says:

Kate looks cute! The dress is flattering to her body type. She looks better covered up IMO. How is old Dakota? She still look like a kid in the photo. Lol.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

Funny, I actually think this white dress is very unflattering to her body type. It really accentuates how boxy her torso is making her look like she was NO waist and also make her legs look too skinny for the rest of her body. A longer length and maybe a wide belt to give the illusion of a waist would have helped.

      • FLORC says:

Yea. It’s too basic. Something could have been added and made it a standout look.

Her Express photos have been showing her with much slimmer legs. I thought it was photoshop, but now I think she’s losing the weight only in her legs and arms.

I really don’t get her look. She’s got more weight in her chest and still has slim legs so she appeals more to the general masses maybe?
She only seems to have 1 look. And it’s a slight variation from se#kitten.

  12. AlmondJoy says:

I hate her style but she’s a very gorgeous young lady. Actually, I hate every outfit in this bunch.

  13. A Fan says:

I like Kate Upton just fine. And, she looks good in that dress. She’s young and pretty with big, luscious, bouncy, REAL boobs. What’s not to like? However, she lacks sex appeal or magnetism somehow – she’s never going to be someone who ‘wows’. This is as good as it’s going to get and that’s ok.

    [*Vanilla…but in a good way*]

  14. Bart says:

I agree with @A Fan, she lacks true magnetism and sex appeal. I don’t think she’s ugly, but I don’t find her drop dead gorgeous either, but a good portion of the people I know look like her, so, I might be biased.

I’m glad to see her breast covered up instead of practically falling out, now, if only if Christina Hendrix would do the same. M

It is a relief to see curvier women in Hollywood instead of stick thin.

    • FLORC says:

Hendrix has a harder time of covering up than Upton.
And I like it on her. She’s really got a great hourglass figure and knows how to dress it up.

And I agree with you and A Fan. She’s pretty, but she’s lacking something. The wow factor is missing and she’s still riding the wave of her youtube dances and 2 SI covers.
I like her. I just don’t see why she’s a thing. It seems forced.
Here’s my bias. I don’t share her body type. My chest is smaller and my waist is thinner. What she wears and how she wears it isn’t appealing to my tastes and figure.
While I can absolutely appreciate someone who has fat stores in her body I don’t think that’s enough for her to live up to the hype. Again, it’s missing that “wow” factor.

Bottom line. Carrying some extra weight, just like being very thin is not a good enough reason to be an it girl imo. I need more than a catwalk with bouncyness.

  15. TW says:

Not loving any of these looks, the stylists aren’t doing their pretty clients justice. In particular, KU is a beauty… Having said that, this dress should be 1 – 2 sizes up to be elegant and proportionate on her frame. Could have been a knockout.

    • TW says:

A ruffle-winged sleeve never looks right on larger breasted gals. Way too much going on. An outfit or dress should help you look like your elegance is effortless. Like you’re not holding your breath to fit it, and you could eat a cracker without making a ripple. Like you just can’t help looking smart and classy. When something is ill-fitting, eyes go there, and not to the beauty wearing it. Clothes are an accessory. The person and their vibe should enter a room, not the dress.

  16. Nudgie says:

I hope Kendall can break away from PMK and get a ‘real’ life. Kylie is firmly in PMK’s clutches and will only be a retread of Kim. She will NOT turn out well…

  17. Naddie says:

They’re all beautiful, but Dakota looks authentic, genuine and not obnoxious. The only one who’s got a soul behind her eyes. Yes, I’m her fan.

  18. cari says:

LOVE Kates dress. I am going out this weekend, and wish I had the same one. Also wish I had her bosom to fill it out as well:/
