Jessica Chastain in fuchsia Oscar de la Renta in Deauville: stunning or tacky?

wenn21682046

Jessica Chastain headlined the opening of the Deauville Film Festival on Friday. She was there to pick up a career-achievement award… just three years after she accepted a newcomer award from the same festival. Don’t get me wrong, I think Jessica Chastain is a wonderful actress, but why would you give her the equivalent of “you’ve had an awesome career” at this point in her life? When she accepted the award, she talked about publicity, the iCloud hacking stuff and more – go here to read.

As for the fashion, for the big event Jessica wore this Oscar de la Renta dress in fuchsia, with gold and multicolor stitching and such. I wouldn’t have thought to put a pale redhead in fuchsia, but the color really works on her, doesn’t it? The design and shape is good/acceptable too. My biggest qualms are with the lipstick (a few shades too dark) and her HAIR. My God. Again, I love Jessica and I think she’s so beautiful. But gurl, get some better hair people.

The best part of this look? The gold Christian Louboutins. If I wore these, I would probably injure myself on the spikes somehow.

And here’s her day look at Deauville – a deceptively simple Phillip Lim shift dress with a wide belt. Again, I wouldn’t have put a pale redhead in this cream/eggshell color, but it works, I think. Mostly because she’s being photographed in daylight – this might look washed out at an indoor event. Her hair doesn’t look so bad here.

the hair is a disaster, but I like both her outfits. She must have changed the stylist.

I guess I’m alone here but i think the power of the Hollywood Stylist has ruined the red carpet personality of celebrities. It’s really about how much money or connections a celeb has to what stylist who receives more current couture. It’ s really a snooze fest compared with a few decades ago. I know celebs had assistants since way back, but the blah ness and same ness has really become endemic.

  2. Audrey says:

She is way too pretty for that first look

She looks nice in the white one though

  3. Lilacflowers says:

I need those spiky shoes! And I really like the fuchsia dress too – very pretty.

  4. Lucy2 says:

I like the dress, dislike the hair, and got a foot cramp just looking at those shoes.

  5. QQ says:

I Love both Looks head to toe A LOT (and that red lip with pink and viceversa is totally on trend!)

This is a great Improvement for JessicaAmyIsla and we should take it for that, Obviously the Stylists of last year were fired..in time, so will the Hair people!

  6. Liz says:

She looks very pretty, I love the colour of the first dress.

  7. Tapioca says:

The pink outfit is like peak-Eva Green and not in a good way. Sack your stylist, then salt and burn the body.

  8. DanaG says:

I love the fuschia dress it’s her styling that let’s her down. The hair looks awful and that lipstick is way too dark for her skin tone. I don’t mind the pale dress it’s ok.

  9. Janet says:

The white is perfect. The fuchsia is kind of senior prom-y but it works. The Louboutins don’t work. The red soles clash horribly with the dress.

  10. GlimmerBunny says:

I love the first look but I HATE the bangs and the lipstick. A slicked-back bun and some nude lipgloss would have been so much better. The second look would have looked better with loose hair.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree. Her head totally doesn’t go with her body on the first look. If that makes sense.

  11. maybeiamcrazy says:

Those Louboutins are to die for. But fuchsia dress is tacky IMO. I liked the second look.

  12. TheCountess says:

The fuchsia is close to being too much for her, but it looks good. The lipstick is too matchy-matchy and does not compliment her coloring.

Her hair stylist should be fired.

  13. Sugar says:

That white dress doesn’t flatter her coloring at all! And why on earth would you wear nude clodhoppers with a white dress?! A white dress is the time to bust out an interesting shoe in a bold color.

The first dress is so good on her! Love the bright color with her pale skin. Her gorgeous hair isn’t being shown to its full effect, though.

  14. Azurea says:

I’m so glad I don’t have to walk red carpets. I’d be falling down or stumbling around like a drunken sailor in the ridiculous heel heights these days. I’m glad the stripper platforms seem to be fading away somewhat, but egads, can’t designers make pretty shoes that aren’t torture devices? The women wearing them sure don’t look comfortable.

    • Diana B says:

I kind of liked the platforms because the shoes were more comfortable with them. They would look high but they weren’t that high. Oh well…

      • Azurea says:

A small platform is okay, but those clodhopper ones are just ugly. Why do heels have to be 4-6 inches high? Ree-dick.

  15. MrsBPitt says:

I, personally, do not think JC is a very good actress. I thought she was the weakest part of Zero Dark Thirty (didn’t really get the hype over that movie anyway…the end was the only good part) She tends to overact, in my opinion. Don’t care for either look above…and the bangs trauma is pretty, pretty, pretty bad! (shout out to Larry David(!

  16. InvaderTak says:

She looks so dour in the pink dress. Like she would rather be anywhere else. The white is ok but nothing special.

  17. Ritu says:

I like both looks. I’m a very pale redhead too and fuchsia in one of the few colors that actually works with my skin. It’s a modern classic for pale gingers!

  18. Lydia says:

    Atrocious.

  19. Diana B says:

She is so pretty. I like her very much, but yes, that hair needs a new stylist.

  20. Chris says:

Only clicked in the hope of seeing some Farrell, but JC has an interesting face alright. How refreshing to see a shortish dress too.
Agree with those comments about a disconnect though….the hair’s not quite right. And, just for additional critique…..that pink is one whisker off the perfect shade for her, a tiny bit too cold, imo. But so what….pretty decent, douze points!
How in the name of gad do people mince about in such heels? I wouldn’t manage a yard across the floor.

  21. phlyfiremama says:

The dresses are incredible. That fuschia silk embroidered fabric~SO pretty!!

  22. maria1981 says:

my god, that fringe/bangs is awful.

  23. maddelina says:

I dont really like either look but she is gorgeous otherwise. Nice to see an actress that isn’t scary skinny.

  24. kri says:

I am in love with that dress and the embroidery…but it’s gotta be the shoes!!!!!!!! Oh, those shoes.Sigh.

  25. taxi says:

Her face changed a few months ago – can’t quite nail it down, but I do think she’s had work done. Is her nose shorter?

  26. Chinoiserie says:

The pink dress style is the best she has ever looked from what I have seen.

  27. Alexa says:

I think she looks mouth-wateringly GORGEOUS! I’m blown away.

  28. Publicity says:

Love Jessica. I think she always looks great on the red carpet. I still remember that 2012 oscars outfit of hers and that greek grecian goddess purple dress, which was more recent. Gorgeous lady.
