George Clooney & Amal Alamuddin walk their first red carpet together: stunning?

wenn21688075

When I was checking the headlines last night, I thought this story would be the biggest story of the day! How wrong I was. I kind of love Duchess Kate for baby-blocking George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin. The only way Clooney & Amal could top the royal baby news is if Amal announced HER pregnancy with a non-pasta baby today too. Anyway, George and Amal walked their very first red carpet together last night in Florence, Italy. The event? George was receiving a Humanitarian Award at the Celebrity Fight Night event. That’s a good choice for the first red carpet – it’s not a premiere, it’s not too “industry,” but it’s not too dull and serious either. Just the right amount of glamour and seriousness. Bonus points for not doing the first red carpet in America too, because the American press and photographers would have descended on Amal like she was a limping gazelle on the savannah.

For the big event, Amal decided to go with a deceptively simple Dolce & Gabbana gown in black. The fit is great. The design is elegant. Her hair is gorgeous. Do you think she gets regular blowouts? I think she does. She was walking around London last week looking like she just stepped out a salon as well – go here to see those photos. She was also spotted going into the Alexander McQueen studio, just FYI. So now people are wondering if she’s really wearing Oscar de la Renta for her wedding, or if she’s going the Duchess Kate route and wearing Sarah Burton-for-McQueen.

George also mentioned Amal in his speech, because of course he did. That was the whole point of this. He apparently said: “I met my lovely bride to be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places.” Wait, they’re getting married in Venice?! I’m sorry, I don’t believe him. I think he’s trying to throw people off the Como wedding scent. And I thought George met Amal in London?! What the hell? People Mag notes a few more details: George and Amal sat with Andrea Bocelli and his wife Veronica at the event and throughout the evening, “Clooney had one main focus: Amal. He kept putting his arm around her shoulder, and whenever her flowing locks flew out of place on between one bout of laughter or another, he carefully brushed them back.” LOL. That made me eye-roll, but then again, I’m pretty cynical.

I am on board with just about anyone being gay, but do we really think George Clooney is gay?

      • Ana Maria says:

a relative of mine used to be really good friends with a male mexican entertainer, who, mid-nineties or so, hired a “model” that at one point had “dated” George Clooney; gossip is the “model” said Clooney is super gay, although I have a hard time believing it…

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

        Are. You. Kidding. Me?

      • Sabrine says:

LOL…he’s not gay. Apparently, he gets quite a kick out of the silly rumor that he is. I do think he’s fixed so he doesn’t have children, but gay? Absolutely not.

Why all the weird comments about her looks? Is that important somehow?

      • Tulip Garden says:

        @Sabrine,
I agree that he isn’t gay. I just think he laughs about it and isn’t offended by the rumors. I think he had an early unhappy experience with marriage and played the field relentlessly afterwords, something a think a lot of “normals” do too.
As far as Amal, I think that she looks gorgeous here. They make a very sophisticated looking couple. I can’t hate on that. I am a little perplexed at some of the digs downthread about Clooney being a “grandpa”. There isn’t that big of an age difference is there?
Clooney seems to engender a lot of dislike for “playing the fame game” particularly when it comes to Amal. Almost all movie stars do it, many with much less class, so I don’t get that either. Posters were unhappy with his supposed “less than” choices of waitresses and former wrestlers but then again, many seem equally unhappy with his choice to marry an independent accomplished female.
I am not some huge Clooney fan. I just find the dichotomy interesting.

      • Nina says:

I’ve heard the rumor from my gay friends back int the late 90s that he was gay. ER era – before he became the movie star clooney

  2. LadyMTL says:

I can’t stop laughing at the “flowing locks” comment, but they do look really good. The only small exception is in the 2nd to last pic, the bodice of the dress looks like it’s pinching the hell out of her left breast (I’m assuming that’s not a nip slip, lol).

    • Snazzy says:

ha yes! I saw that too! Looks a bit painful actually …

    • als says:

Actually, I think it is a nipple getaway!

      • FLORC says:

I thought that too! It’s not. It’s just a shadow.

It’s a very basic and plain dress. Her street/work style is so outrageous. I’m very bored by this and think George picked the dress out.

    • Gea says:

I still can’t belive that he will be a married man, any time soon. Everything looks like a very good produced play that he is putting on and she is looking for happily ever after. She is beautiful , smart but still doesn’t know who she is diling with.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The top of the dress does look like it is squeezing her to death and falling off her at the same time. Girl must have been afraid to move. It needed to be just an inch higher. It would still be baring but it would be more comfortable, wouldn’t risk the “wardrobe malfunction,” as much, and would look better.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I agree, she’s very pretty and I like the simplicity of the dress but I hate the bust on it. It is not flattering to her and the darting mid-boob looks awful, seriously why put the seam there? Boobs are curved not triangular. It’s too low on her chest and too tight at the bust. A dress should never look like it’s strangling you or your body parts.

      • Ravendaughter says:

My thoughts exactly, ladies. I am stressing out just looking at her trying to keep that dress on!

    • Jh says:

Yep, I did a double take!

    • original kay says:

      it looks so painful!

      • homegrrrl says:

Yes, I’m fixated on how this is her first premiere, and the dress makes her breasts look low and pinched. I really can’t unsee this, and it makes me wonder why she wasn’t styled and fit more properly, beard or not.

    • Kosmos says:

Is it me, or do I detect hair extensions here? Yes, she already has long flowing hair, but some of this could be added pieces. I do admire her simple style, no matter what. I love it when people dress elegantly but simply, not a lot of other things going on, no over-accessorizing.

  3. Snazzy says:

They both look really good here. And she does have amazing hair, doesn’t she?

EDIT: Also, I am in love with those earrings

    • Observer says:

She’s wearing a hair piece at the back of her head to create a fuller head of hair. She looks lovely, love the dress, not sure about the fit though.

      • Frida_K says:

Ooh, interesting! How do you know that there’s a hair piece involved? I can only tell when it’s really obvious. Is there something you see that you can describe here?

        TIA

      • Asra says:

I agree, looks like her boobs are popping out!

      • JudyK says:

I don’t agree with the hairpiece comment.

When I was younger I got accused of wearing a hairpiece…no, I just have incredibly thick hair. Even now, many years later and with short hair, I have to get it thinned each time I get it cut.

Some women have naturally thick hair and don’t need to enhance it. I believe she’s one of those women.

      • emmie_a says:

I agree with the hairpiece. She does have thick hair but it’s not naturally this voluminous.
She got exactly what she wanted; She’s loving the attention.

      • noway says:

There are a couple of pictures on Lainey’s gossip site where it really looks like a hairpiece. I think she has beautiful hair and they just added to it. The dress doesn’t fit that well up top. I am convinced you either need to be large up top or absolutely nothing to make a straight non sweetheart strapless gown work correctly, and nothing up top works better than a lot. They still look beautiful together.

I just find this so weird. A very “private” celebrity who was never going to get married is now out announcing and professing his love and wedding details. Screams of Tom Cruise and a couch. Just odd, and I’m not buying the political aspirations either. I guess we will find out, but I think Clooney has jumped the shark!!!

      • Observer says:

I actually think she’d look better without the hair piece. Her hair is too fluffy and big and she looks cartoonish with it. It’s too much volume.

      • Sienna says:

Nah, it’s not a hair piece. I have thick hair like that too, not everything that’s pretty has to be fake, you know.

      • nicegirl says:

yes not a good fit in the bust area for sure, looks painful and like she is about to fall out of the top

    • delia says:

If she’s Persian, I doubt it’s a hair piece. My son’s girlfriend is Persian and we’ve become friends with their family and when we go to their extended family parties, the whole place is full of glamorous gals with the thickest, greatest hair possible that styles beautifully. A lot thicker than white girl hair like mine, no hair pieces needed, and I’m quite jealous!

      • Snazzy says:

yes exactly! Same thing with Indian girls! Such wonderful hair ! And with a blowout … super glam!

      • Sara says:

She’s ARAB, not Persian. And Arabs aren’t Indian either. lol

      • Snazzy says:

Sara: Ugh, just commenting on the hair by making a comparison. I very much know the difference between Indians, Persians, Arabs and others. Sorry if you think everyone is as ignorant as you are, no need to be so snarky.

  4. lower-case deb says:

so pretty! i like the lowkey styling.

her casual style is really not my cup of tea, but her business, formal, and gala wear… i like!

only that Grandpa should stop grabbing her elbow like he’s going to snap it in half.

    • BratB says:

Lol@ grandpa! I like her hair, but she does look a little fragile. Lol

    • bettyrose says:

Ugh @ grandpa. Does her contract at least allow her to covort with some young studs? Girl’s in her sexual prime.

    • Hautie says:

The thing with the elbow grabbing move… reminds me of Tom Cruise… and how he was always grabbing at Katie Holmes in the same way. Something very controlling about how it is being executed.

  5. Barbiegirl says:

She looks really nice… And classy

  6. savu says:

She’s beautiful, but she makes some weird facial expressions. It makes her look… squirrely.

And yeah her hair is pretty awesome. Her skin is gorgeous, and she definitely doesn’t wear a mask of makeup. Jealous!

    • Pager90 says:

      She looks odd
Like a female version of Jeff Goldblums face.

      • CentralParkSouth says:

I’ve seen Amal described as looking like Mr. Bean, Adrien Brody in clown make up, Howard Stern, Michael Jackson, and now, Jeff Goldblum. Unfortunately, I can see them all at different turns in the photos people were referencing.

So, by any objective standard, Amal is certainly not beautiful in any feminine sense — and some very masculine looking women are stunning, like Canalis — so count me in on the odd and masculine train, for sure, although the hair extensions and probable wiglet look great.

And George does look crazy old so that’s probably why he decided to play the fake marriage card now. Too bad he’s not a better actor, though, or more people probably would have fallen for it.

    • delia says:

She sayings like she’s got oversight. But as for looking masculine, I think that’s silky. She’s super feminine and girly to me.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I agree, she is a beautiful, stylish and petite woman with a very feminine mane of hair, I don’t read masculine at all.

      • ArtCollector says:

Amal’s face is both horsey and hugely mannish. And I now can’t unsee Mr. Bean!

  7. Jenns says:

I’m also a total cynic and after reading his comments, I’m rolling my eyes so much I have a headache. But Lainey put it best that all the public declaration of love appeals to the minivan club. All the moms in their yoga pants are probably loving this and thinking it’s TOTALLY legit.

    • cody says:

Some one explain to me the mini van mom thing and why it is so terrible to be a mini van mom? Who are the mini van moms?

      • Snazzy says:

ha! I was actually curious as well 🙂

      • rudy says:

Refers to middle class moms taking their kids to soccer practice or carpooling to dance or wherever. With kids you need a larger car.

      • Ctkat1 says:

The assumption on Lainey (who coined it, I think?) is that the “minivan majority” are the women who generally live in suburban areas in middle America, have a few kids, read “People” magazine, go to the movies with girlfriends/husbands regularly, would describe themselves as generally aware of celebrity gossip, but in reality totally believe everything that the publicists and studios concoct.
These are the women who would be shocked, SHOCKED, if you suggested that John Travolta or Tom Cruise were gay.
So the Minivan Moms are totally buying the true love story that Clooney is giving the press, and are totally excited that he’s getting married and might even have a baby! They don’t know/care that there are career machinations driving the narrative.

  8. Azurea says:

Her dress looks in danger of slipping off, if you ask me. But she does look great in a grown-up
    black gown!

  9. Hautie says:

Is it wrong to ask if Vegas is taking bets yet.. for how long this marriage will last?

Amal is a lovely girl… and yea I suspect she is getting a blow out daily. I would too…. if I could convince someone to come to my house daily to do it! There is nothing better than a great blow out. Puts me in a good mood immediately, to have perfectly smooth hair.

  10. alreadyready says:

I’m starting to believe he will never be the biggest story of the day, with this girl.

  11. Abigail says:

Are we looking at the same dress? Because that fit is awful. I don’t know how such an incredibly slender woman manages to find a dress that at the same time pinches her boobs, sits too low on the chest, bunches at the waist and gives her a pasta-baby bulge around the midsection. (Although I think she seems to have poor posture, which is likely making all these problems worse.)
She is really amazingly beautiful, but her style is consistently terrible.

    • Jen2 says:

Her posture is horrendous and that is also what seems to make her clothes look so bad on her. Every time I see her, I cringe with how she stands. I just want to pull her shoulders back and tell her to stand up straight. Probably another reason she always looks pregnant. She seems to have no muscle tone in her abdomen and she hunches….maybe so she won’t tower over George like Stacey did. But whatever the reason, it looks bad.

      • Belle Epoch says:

Jen2 agree about the posture! I was actually wondering osteoporosis. They’ll both be in walkers soon.

    • flotsamrose says:

      +1

Can’t believe this isn’t tailored better.

    • ZAN says:

Couldn’t agree more. and I don’t find her that beautiful.. I think she’s basic looking (not in answer to your comment)

    • Trashaddict says:

The posture is what my mother used to refer to as the “deb slouch”.

  12. FranticallyBored says:

That dress is dangerously close to slipping a nip.

  13. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

They both look great. Not sure black is her color, but she looks very elegant.

    • Chris says:

Phew, an approving comment! Me too, I think she looks terrific. I really loathe gowns as a tradition, but at least this is sober and elegant.
God I’d love hair like that……and the cwap thing is, I would have, if I’d just quit bombing it with bleach; but dark hair @ 58 may be a bit much. :(.
I can’t imagine how such an event must feel to her. You’d have to grit your teeth about a lot of things. Well, best wishes to her, she looks radiant.

    • Kiddo says:

They look classy and well put together.

    • andypandy says:

GoodNames I just want to rename you just Good
I always luv your comments not afraid to call out BS when you see it will enjoy a bit of a snark now and then but never just mean for no reason

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Aw, thank you, Andypandy. That’s really sweet and I enjoy your posts, too.

      • Petrichor says:

I agree, andypandy. I always read & enjoy GNAT’s comments for that very reason. I read CB a lot more than I comment on it, and part of the reason I started reading it regularly was (as people often write here), the comments boards, though sometimes cliquey, were not often mean-spirited and were almost always witty, educational, and intelligent. The cliques have changed while I’ve been reading. I don’t see a lot of the old pseudonyms on here anymore, and the cliques who have stuck around or have come up to fill a vacancy often couch their words in some unnecessary holier-than-thouness.

I accept the outcome of this comment if it garners me a free education on the ins and outs of life in the CB realm. I’m walking into it eyes open. I just don’t think others always are.

I remember a while back Wolfpup caught some flack for one of her comments. She replied with something along the lines of: “I’d always suspected that CB wasn’t open/inviting to new commenters. Thanks for confirming things for me.” Of course people piled on that thread to show how untrue the statement was, but I’ve continued to see evidence of its veracity over the months since. It’s the reason I continue to comment so infrequently.

That’s also why I’m grateful for people like GNAT who are willing to call out BS while always remaining respectful. It’s why I also applaud FLORC’s no name-calling policy. So thanks to all you awesome Celebitches who come out every day and fight the good fight to keep this place as awesome as it was when we all first started coming here!

    • The Original G says:

I think she looks great as well. All the speculation aside about their relationship, I like seeing an attractive woman that isn’t looking like her face has been injected into place with chemical push pins.

We think all that hair is real?

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I think the hair is real. My hair is absurdly thick and I’m half middle eastern. Every photo I’ve ever seen of her, she has this crown of locks, and I’m not seeing any tell-tale sign of a hair piece. Her hair seems very uniform from a lot of different angles here. If there’s extra hair there, it is well hidden.

      • ArtCollector says:

Amal has had a nose job and obvious massive hair extensions since she was first pictured with Clooney last year. She also looks to have had a chin and cheek implants from earlier photos, so injections would be a downgrade in terms of invasive procedures.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I think they look great as well, but I disagree, I think black looks really lovely on her.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, I’m rethinking that. I like her in color but you’re right, she does look lovely in the black, too.

    • HappyMom says:

      I’m with you.

  14. Janet says:

Classy, understated and elegant. Keep it simple. It always works.

  15. Jen2 says:

Amalooney looks good here except her dress does not fit up top. She raises her arm once and it will be embarrassing. I hope whoever does her wedding dress does a better job at fitting her properly. And why all the details about when and where he is getting married. Just don’t get it. Mr. Leave My Private Life Out of It, seems to want everyone to know about his private life. I know she is smart and all, but she just seems to be his accessory. But, I do wish them the best.

  16. maybeiamcrazy says:

That dress is so low. She probably kept pulling it up. Strapless gowns are just not worth it.

  17. serena says:

Then again the last picture kind of creeps me out, seeing how George is holding Amal’s arm.. like he’s restraining her.

Anyway she looks stunning but I think that bust was too tight, as in in the second-last pic her boobs seems to be suffering a lot.

    • Vic says:

I get serious control freak vibes from him.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

I disagree, they’re walking a carpet with tons of people screaming and bulbs flashing, he is probably helping her navigate through the pack. He is used to that scene but it is very chaotic and hard to know who to look at when photos get taken when everybody is yelling. He’s helping guide her, not “controlling” her.

  18. Kiddo says:

I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but in these photos you can see a similarity in facial features between the couple.

  19. Jem says:

I need a vacation. The only thing I got out of this entire article was… location, location. Venice…. Florence… Ahhhh….

Oh my God I need a vacation

  20. decorative item says:

The dress is lovely, but it looks like it’s falling down under the weight of the fabric. There’s something off about the boob area. Still, it’s so nice to see elegance instead of cheep, trashy, attention seeking rubbish.

  21. PunkyMomma says:

Is it just my eyes or does George look ashen and exhausted? He looks ill to me.

    • als says:

Yeah, I don’t know if ill, but he looks his age or maybe he looks even older than he is – for the first time ever.
God, he really took Tina Fey & Amy Poehler’s joke to heart. I don’t care if he gets married, but to find out he has no sense of humor – depressing, I always thought he was a good sport!
Comedy, Mr. Clooney, it’s what makes this life worth living, not Amal’s locks, not money or power!

      • Lilacflowers says:

If he took Tina & Amy’s joke to heart, he would be marrying a 50 year old, not Amal. The joke was that he would rather die in space than spend another minute with a woman his own age.

      • Pager90 says:

Yup IMO this is a product of that joke heard and laughed at around the world. George couldn’t handle the world being in on the joke.

Her daytime attire is awful. I’ll bet anything George has a word on the evening wear.

    • Kate says:

Well he has chronic back pain. That will make anyone look pretty drained. He’s mostly looked like this to some degree ever since he was injured.

  22. Loopy says:

Why does George want so much attention surrounding his wedding, there have been a couple of big news breaks stifling his wedding attention first jolie-pitt wedding and now Kate preggers news. Hope something huge happens on the day before,on or after his wedding LOL

  23. Etheldreda says:

I suppose we shoudln’t read too much into red carpet photos but the body language looks exactly like it did with George and his previous escorts – fake. There is no hint of affection or chemistry between them, in fact, I don’t think they’re even looking at each other in any of the photos. And that last pic where he has his hand gripping her arm looks…odd.

BTW I don’t like Amal’s dress. It looks plain and cheap and doesn’t fit her. Gorgeous hair, however.

  24. bettyrose says:

She is stunning. I guess having her as the first lady of CA will keep things interesting.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Do you honestly think he’s convincing enough to run for office…and win? He’s a guy who wants to be perceived as an all-around nice guy and a savior to those in need. I seriously doubt he wants to dirty his image in the world of elected politics. I don’t think he could withstand what you have to go through, nor does he desire to go through it.

      • bettyrose says:

“He’s a guy who wants to be perceived as an all-around nice guy and a savior to those in need.” <– Candidates often play the "all around nice guy," and CA has a history of electing celebs to our highest office with minimal scrutiny. But if that's not his goal, why the hand-picked Jackie as his fake wife?

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

They’re playing nicey nice to create the image that they need to get elected. That’s very different than a Hollywood actor who has had his ego convincingly stroked for half his life and who has a need to be a Knight in Shining Armor to the third world. Has he ever really shown a serious interest in domestic politics?

Also, nobody attaches themselves to a rich Muslim Englishwoman to win elections in America. Sorry, they just don’t. Remember Anthony Weiner’s wife and all the crap they said about her? Putting this woman in his sphere is an international move, not a US one.

      • Hazel says:

Hey, that’s a state that elected Ronnie Reagan & Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who knows who they’ll elect?

      • Pager90 says:

Arnold was married to a Kennedy with long political ties and a political dynasty.

      • Pager90 says:

It doesn’t happen automatically just because a person marries an American Citizen, one has to apply for green card and/orCitizenship still and also does she really WANT to become a US citizen? I guess she could always apply for dual citizenship?

I just don’t see this woman with her background helping George politically in the US . She’s got too much baggage from her own client
I’d just like to know who Gerorge can rally to vote for him at this point in great numbers. He’ll have candidates who want the job on both sides asking why him? Are his ties that deeply entrenched with any base of voters that they’ll go vote for him, like they did for Reagan and Arnold? I don’t see it. JMO

      • lisa says:

this, he’s a hypocrite. he gets $$$ from nestle but they promote everything he would tell you he is against.

    • Pager90 says:

Doesn’t she need to be a Citizen of the US to live in California and be First Lady?
California picks celebrities but with this woman, I don’t think George has a chance. She’s too divisive politically. The opposition, I can’t see being worried about Clooney, he’s easy pickings they’ll wipe the floor with him.
Also how much of the Democratic base would actually go out of their homes to vote for him? He’d need more than fans. He’d need a large democratic base of voters of all colors, white, black ,Latino, etc. He’d need a large black voting base, he’d need a large Latino base , he’d need Asian voters as well as white voters. George is not marrying a Kennedy woman, who has history with US women voters like Arnold had with Maria Shriver. Also Men and women liked Arnold and crossed party lines to put him in office. Would that happen with George? I can’t see It.
I just don’t see it happening for him with this woman at his side and California and the US is loaded with educated lady Lawyers from both sides of the political spectrum.

First lady is not an elected office and does not require citizenship, but if she marries a U.S. citizen, she will become one eventually. (Also, I don’t think the wife of California’s governor is actually considered the first lady of California).

      • Pager90 says:

“Eventually” is the operative word. She’s Not a citizen, right now in the US. She can’t even live in the US for more than three to six months at a time without a proper, legal green card, does she even have one? I don’t think so, since her workplace is currently in England. I also still don’t believe George on his own even without this woman, would have a large enough voting base to win a Govenorship at this point. The opposing political party would probably love to run against George Clooney. I think they’d make mincemeat out of him.
I agree with “We are all made of stars opinion above.” I just don’t see this woman helping George politically in the US.

      • bettyrose says:

Pager90 – Aren’t they getting married? Legal residence will follow very quickly. That’s a minor concern for a wealthy Brit with an American spouse.

I’m curious about other theories for why he’s marrying his current beard if he is not seeking political office. Maybe he isn’t, but it certainly wouldn’t be out of fear of the California Republicans making “mincemeat” out him. Let’s say that again just for laughs. California.Republicans. The party of Arnold the Governator.

      • jane16 says:

The wife of the Governor of California is indeed referred to as “First Lady”. Also, Arnold may have seemed harmless, and kind of a joke, to those of you in other states, but he did a lot of damage to working people, and the lower and middle classes, with his typical pro-rich, pro-corp policies. I can’t believe people here were so stupid as to elect him. Gov Jerry Brown is turning things around, but it will take time. Also, California republicans are as vicious as anywhere else. Look up Darrell Issa and his evil shenanighans and complete waste of taxpayer $ with his constantly going after liberals.

No, I don’t believe for second that George is considering running for Governor. He would be ripped apart by the repubs. George goes to a lot of trouble, and pays huge amounts of money for contract girlfriends as a way to keep his private life private, do you really think he would risk having his real personal life made public? Also, he doesn’t seem at all involved in California issues and doesn’t spend that many months out of each year here.

      • bettyrose says:

Jane – I’ve lived in CA nearly my whole life: north & south. I don’t consider Arnold a joke. I consider him evidence of what a joke the republicans are in this state and how unlikely they are as a threat to our next gubernatorial candidate: whethet that be Clooney or Newsom. I also know we have enoughstar struck voters who would vote for Clooney on that merit alone. Maybe you ladies are correctthat hehe’s not running, but the reasoning is off. He’s not afraid of the republicans and his wife can certainly live here legally.

      • Pager90 says:

His wife can live in California legally AFTER she gets the proper papers BUT if she jumps the line and has special favors done as someone implied she would, above (because she’s with George) to get a quick citizenship, or green card ,the opposition will use That against George too, politically.

So his base is starstruck voters? Hahaha that’s not enough to win, he also has to be able to connect with voters, to make people turn out to vote.

Democratic voters will be his base, black, Latino and Asian and white middleclass and lower on the economic scale voters, I can’t see them being excited about voting for him. Why would these groups vote for George?

        I live in California too.

      • bettyrose says:

Pager90 – Great, you live in California, so you know that Democratic voters were so desperate to elect literally anyone other than Gavin Newsom that they dusted off an old-timey politician who had already served two terms (the limit for a California Governor) using some grandfather clause because he last sat in office in the early 80s. (Don’t get me wrong, I love Jerry. I think he made a wonderful mayor of Oakland and is a strong governor now, but he can’t serve another term).

In any case, if Clooney is getting married this month (that’s the plan, right?), they’d have plenty of time to get the papers in order before his campaign. California is a state of immigrants. Hollywood & Silicon Valley are packed with temporary legal residents with the right to work; no one is going to object to a political wife who isn’t a full citizen yet. Again, he might not be running, but so far no one has put forth another theory for his “marriage.”

      • jane16 says:

bettyrose, you make interesting points, but I still don’t think he will run. He seems to really relish being in the movie industry.

      • Pager90 says:

Even if he ran, I doubt he’d win.
The Governor from the 80’s mentioned has a long history of experience and a solid base with the voters, from all backgrounds.
I’ve yet to see where Clooney’s base is in the Denocratic party and starstruck fans just aren’t enough.

I believe the next serious candidate for California politics will come directly FROM the Google, Tech, Simi Vally world. These people have brought huge industry to the State in the Billion$. Many started from scratch. IMO George Clooney has nothing to offer them, nor does he have anything to offer the Democratic base of Black, Latino, Asian voters and I can’t see him or Amal(who has no connection to the US )appealing to the base of white middleclass Democratic voters. ( and no way Republicans will vote for him.)
And the Google, Twitter Tech giants don’t need George, or his money, or his politics or baggage, they have their own connections, to the White House and Washington politics already. These Google, tech, Calif. companies employ thousands and are a powerhouse on their own.
I still don’t see the Democratic base wanting Clooney.
        Over and out.

    • siri says:

Do you really believe George wants to work THAT hard? A man who loves to have control over everything, and who wants it ‘his way’? He would have to make huge compromises on a daily base…no, I doubt that. And Amal an asset in the US?? I tend to think this is all rather simple, he’s tired of picking a woman every two years. He’s also one who doesn’t take criticism very well, or heavy jokes about his personal life- he wants to be a good boy, really. His image matters a lot to him. Does he care what people say about him? Absolutely. So he’s busy polishing what has been damaged. Will it work? I think people will loose interest.

      • Tanguerita says:

I agree with completely. The question is – can he actually handle people losing interest? The way he has been behaving lately is saying otherwise: it’s boderline desperate, almost Kardashian-level desparate.

      • siri says:

@Tanguerita: No, he can’t handle that. After thinking he can do whatever he pleases with regard to his relationships, he finally (and very late) realized it makes him look silly- and that’s the last thing he wants. He so wants to be taken seriously, and now he’s just doing damage control. If I was him, I’d find myself another PR team. Because that 180° turn doesn’t come over convincing either.

  25. Dancinnancy says:

I don’t understand why tall beautiful women slouch. All I see is her awful posture.

  26. Len says:

She needs to really work on her posture. I guess she’s trying to not be so tall but she should stand up straight.

  27. JudyK says:

She looks regal, classy, and exquisite here.

I don’t get the criticism of her and saying her boobs are popping out, which I don’t think they are at all. Compared to Kim Kardashian, she looks beyond modest.

  28. Jade says:

I think she is slouching because the dress doesn’t fit, it’s quite low. I’ve always thought she was quite beautiful, not pretty. She looks like Nazanin Boniadi. But her street style isn’t great. As for her formal style here, this is a safe choice and may I say deliberate.

  29. siri says:

They look good together here, no doubt. The dress seems to be a bit low and tight around the bust, but it’s classy. But you can also see that George still controls everything, and she knows her place. After a couple more of these ‘training’ occasions, she’s gonna be the perfect escort. By the way, did she change the shape of her eyebrows?

  30. Josephine says:

I think she probably went on the safe side because she figured that everyone would tear her up, and that safe wouldn’t give them much to discuss. But lots of people are tearing her up anyway. She’s an attorney, not an actress or one of those dim-witted celebs, and I think she looks fine.

  31. LoisLane says:

Well he looks ill to me too…like i had a weird feeling when i saw his face and the way he is carring himself especially on the pic with Amal facing away. I am starting to wonder if maybe he was diagnosed with some serious illness that made him change his views of life so he decided to have a family now. Maybe i m seeing too much into it but it’s just not unlikely to me right now. But i hope i’m wrong and he’s ok though.

  32. DanaG says:

Amal has so much in common with Duchess Kate her constant trips to the hairdresser, her wedding gown being designed by Sarah Burton and they both seem allergic to work. Amal hasn’t been at work for months it seems I thought lawyers rarely got holidays? She has had months and months away from her chambers. The top of the dress does not fit properly and Amal is way too thin her collar bone looks it could cut you. It is the best I have seen her which makes me think this is George’s doing not hers. The girl has very expensive taste in everything her shoes, handbags and awful outfits are worth thousands and thousands of dollars and that is just what she wears to run errands. This is going to cost George a fortune and I give it 3 years most of which will be spent apart with him working and her shopping and going through his money as fast as possible.

    • Malificent says:

How do you know she’s not at work? You can telecommute from pretty much anywhere these days….

    • Pager90 says:

She seems to be basically doing the George Clooney roadshow, like previous contracts.

      • Tanguerita says:

absolutely. And she is not an IT-specialist, as a barrister you should spend a minute or two in the office once in a while – you don’t work completely on your own.

  33. Midnight says:

OK. Where are the diet patrols because this woman is seriously thin to me and George looks old.

  34. poppy says:

    she’s too good for him.

  35. Chibichichai says:

That dress was one inch away from being a bridesmaid’s dress. That’s probably why she kept the top so low.

    • Altariel says:

Yep, total bridesmaid. I’ve been a bridesmaid in black three times, and personally I hated it so much I put my own bridesmaids in off-white lol

  36. mellie says:

He looks old and her facial expressions look like she’s trying to be Jackie O…or maybe I’m just jealous…sigh 🙂

  37. MammaMiaLeah says:

    She’s his Jackie O.

  38. Snarky says:

I don’t think she’s beautiful at all. She’s average, and that’s thanks to makeup.

    • Pager90 says:

      +100
I don’t see the beauty. She’s has nice hair, but the rest is odd, she looks bird like.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

      Agreed Snarky,

I really do not understand how Clooney thinks aligning himself with her is going to help him politically? All anyone has to do is a Google search on her to see whom she allegedly supports and has ties to. He’s an idiot and she, obviously, loves all the attention. So, famewhore?

And why does she remind me of Alexa Ray Joel’s type?

      • noway says:

Thank you!!! I have been trying to figure out who she reminds me of and that really is it. Alexa Ray Joel before all the plastic surgery.

I still say this is odd! Can’t see how she would help him politically or professionally, but this relationship just looks too staged to not have a catch. Can’t wait to find out what it is.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

        Welcome Noway 🙂

Yes, it should be interesting to see how this all pans out.

  39. Shay15 says:

Oh my goodness, she is beautiful, more so when she smiles. I don’t really care about Clooney, but he does have great taste in women.

  40. Jayna says:

That gown is stunning on her. I love that gown.

  41. CentralParkSouth says:

Amal is strikingly unattractive looking from most angles but attractive from some. She is tall and thin and very masculine looking (as if we needed the hint, George!) so that’s, no doubt, why she got the job.

  42. Marigold says:

I wish this strapless dress being so low on the chest trend would go away. Who wants to walk around in a dress that looks like it’s falling off them all day?

  43. Lola says:

I think she is pretty, but there are tons of women out there that could be considered beautiful in comparison to her … for all I know there are ladies that write here that can surpass her in the beauty department, but having written that I still have to say “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
I like the dress. Yes, there is a weird fitting situation going on, on top. Plus, there are ways to make such a skinny woman seems more fuller up top and I guess she got screwed with the stylist because the tricks were not given to her, if I take into consideration these pictures.
A beard? I have no clue … but if they are happy hey! blessed them both.

  44. Eleonor says:

I think she’s got great hair and I love the earringds !

  45. Jessica says:

She can do better than him.

  46. Altariel says:

Sorry there weren’t enough red carpets in representing Julian Assange. She’s a smart woman, wonder what he’s promised her to ignore his long failed track record with women.

  47. Altariel says:

How sweet , the humanitarian and his equal got dressed up and began their red carpet life together.

  48. BNA FAN says:

I have to say AA and GC look great in the series of photos here. I looked at photos 5, 8 and 9. AA in those photos makes Angelina Jolie looks fat. There are people out there always getting on AJ about her weight. I bet they will be saying the same thing about AA very soon. I also believes AA looks more pretty from afar but her close up photos not so much, especially the shape of her nose and mouth, IMO.

  49. maddelina says:

I think she is lovely. My hair is as thick if not thicker than hers. Just cut off six inches and now I’m suffering from remorse after seeing hers.

  50. HoustonGrl says:

OMG she is SO beautiful. He just looks old to me though.

    • Sara says:

Ummm where ? I don’t see a beautiful woman. She’s average to me. Just tall, I imagine if she wasn’t so tall, she’d be a little meh duckling.

  51. qtpi says:

I think he is very aware of the gossip around the girls he was rotating through… how a lot of people laughed at a supposed contract. And how they all lasted about the same amount of time (give or take). I think he was more embarrassed by that joking around then he was the Amy/Tina joke.

Something is really off with whole Amal deal. I don’t think he is gay but something is really weird.

  52. Ice Queen says:

    She’s stunning.

  53. lisa says:

her elbows are always glued to the side regardless of what she is wearing

she’s a two face, quite pretty in some pictures and quite haggard in others. but being at least part time pretty is still better than a lot of people.

  54. aqua says:

I think they are a very attractive couple who will get some attention but not the frienzie that Brad and Angie get which might suit George and Amal just fine.

  55. TW says:

Yes, he seems to be made aware of the buzz surrounding his dating life. This is likely all about that and timing. Maybe she is his answer to JK Jr’s Carolyn Bisette. Off-looking but somewhat substantial compared to his past. He may be dazzled by that vibe. He might do well to slow down there a bit and make sure this is more than just that, and is going to work for the rest of his life. Although, I’ve no idea how deep/smart he is or isn’t.

  56. Longhorn says:

I think Amal looks terrific, very elegant. But Clooney looks so Grandpa. What happened to him? He isn’t that old – he looks like he’s 70 years old. Btw- not believing the hairpiece theory. I have super thick hair like Amal’s and its like a damn blanket on my head during summer. Not always ideal

  57. Bubulle says:

This is so out of character for him, professing his love in public and acting all lovey all of sudden after spending his whole life jumping on one meaningless relationship after another. This Kinda reminds me of Tom Cruise’s coach jumping,he tries way too hard. If this was legit he would have kept his relationship as low key as possible, I don’t think he wants to persue a career in politics, he has too much skeletons in his closet, methinks he is doing it because his love life was publicly mocked and George has a big ego.

  58. Shelby says:

I think they look good together, she looks very pretty in that dress

  59. Kate Bushi says:

I love the dress, I think she looks gorgeous. Beautiful thick hair too.
George doesn’t look his usual dapper self though.. Maybe he is sick? His back seems to cause him alot if problems and nothing ages your face more than living in constant pain!

  60. Ag-UK says:

Like the dress not the fit he is looking old and the head on his shoulder at the dinner table ( maybe not in this lot of photos but I have seen it elsewhere ) but phuleeze makes me cringe and think of Tom Cruise.

  61. rudy says:

George and Amal, interesting no single names yet, huh? No one can figure out this couple. Gamal is really the only possibility.

I think Amal is very much a part of her culture but at the same time is very modern. She can deal with George who may prefer men. I heard he invited his posse to the hotel, and Amal watched. heh. À chacun son goût.

For the record, I LOVE HER STYLE. It is quirky, different, unique. Lots of color and loosey goosey drapery, which is a part of her heritage.

She is stunning. And smart. George needed his bonafide.

  62. TW says:

IMO he is dashing, and looks great compared to most men (his age or not considered). Men are looked at differently, because we (more forgiving) women are doing the looking. They don’t usually moisturize or sun-block their faces… grey hair is distinguishing, and women work hard after 50 to maintain definition after a couple new lbs. Having said that, I don’t think he looks old for his years in the slightest, unless presenting a much younger significant other, which by comparison does that.

  63. Sam says:

First Brange steals his wedding thunder and now a royal baby steals his red carpet outing with the fiancée. He even proclaimed his love for her, that’s gotta hurt for a man in love with his own hype.

  64. ArtCollector says:

Amal has such smug face. Clooney really should have picked a less haughty looking beard since he’s going to have to stick with this one longer than the standard two year contract.

As far as his definitely not aging well, John Stamos and Rob Lowe are two guys right around his age that both look decades younger than Clooney does, hence the increased PR offensive, I mean, errr, wedding.

    • TW says:

Haha, great point. I’m guessing Rob Lowe and John Stamos moisturize, hair-color, sunblock, and nip/tuck now and then. 🙂

  65. dawnchild says:

Lamb to the slaughter in a ‘grown up’ black evening gown with a poorly-fitting bust…Shades of Diana’s first evening outing as an engaged girl, anyone?

But hey, I wish her the best. I just wish she didn’t starve the earlier prettiness out of her face. That bone structure and features would be just as lovely (and not as aging) with some more softness to it. At this rate she’ll end up a clone of the Beverly Hills wife.

  66. dt says:

I admit to being one of those women that was turned off by Clooney’s hot-and-cold running bimbos routine. But this relationship seems genuine and really sweet. Maybe it’s just because I married an old bachelor myself – but I confess – I’m smitten. I wish them every happiness in their new life.

    • ArtCollector says:

As I was saying, increased PR offensive…

This sounds like it was taken straight from an episode of Mad Men.

    • aqua says:

congrats to you then, and I agree,This relationship seems genuine.

    • A says:

I don’t know why but the look of love doesn’t show on George at all even with everything he is doing right in this relationship sound and look love but i don’t see or feel it genuine “for some reason i can’t explain “.

  67. aqua says:

@ Tulip Garden I agree with you, George just can’t seem to get it right no matter who he’s with, kind of like he’s damned if he does or he’s damned if he doesn’t. People were always on him for the women he has chosen to be with and his lack of commitment towards them. Now that he has found someone who he feels compatible with and is ready to marry
people are believing that their is an ulterior motive behind it. Be it gay or a political career which I don’t believe either is true. They make a sophisticated looking couple as you have pointed out and will do very well together. I’ve been reading a lot of comment not only on this site but all over the internet and most are positive towards her (for a change) but are negative about George mostly about him looking old. A !7 year age difference in Hollywood is not a big deal especially when their are couples (some with children) that have a bigger age gap then them. This is normal not only for Hollywood but in life outside of Hollywood. I see it all the time.Sometimes I think he gets more hate then he deserves.

  68. Side-eye says:

I’ve harped on the ridiculousness (in my opinion) of the media blitz surrounding this for so long I’m even boring myself; these press items are completely over the top at this point. And then it hit me: of course they are. George and Amal look stunning here. Side-eye still firmly in effect for the media coverage (and yet I’m still clicking on the stories).

  69. Dany says:

Pretty dress, great hair, but poor posture and smug face. With her body language she looks as lost as her bustier. I think it´s because she is a newbie on the red carpet. We´re used to see people who have learned how to pose/ present themselves on the carpet.
Amal seems starstruck, but lost. George looks proud like a man who couldn´t wait to show his new car around.

  70. Nimbolicious says:

For some reason that I can’t fathom she annoys the hell out of me. Seems like a mannequin but with an advanced degree. There’s no “there” there…..

  71. Christin says:

I could never see the Cary resemblance in GC until now, especially in the header photo and some photos of them leaving a hotel this week. He does resemble C. Grant — circa 1970s, when Cary was in his 70s. Cary still looked better, IMO.

    • AG-UK says:

Hell Yeah… Cary Grant was better looking but you are referring to the 70 y/o Cary ok I will accept that the young Cary no not even close.

  72. Sally says:

I don’t think this is a great love story, but more a marriage of convenience. If they are both okay with it and it works for them, then that is great and I wish them the best.

George usually lets his girlfriends fend for themselves in the media and doesn’t defend them when the tabloids trash them. It appears he might actually defend her, out of character for him. I always thought he was a jerk for not defending his chosen women.

Depending on the angle, she looks pretty but the pregnancy rumors will continue. If she corrects her posture, they will stop. She has extremely poor posture and could be very striking is she would correct it, no matter what she wears.

  73. Publicity says:

She just seems to love the spotlight too much. And Clooney’s sick of being the butt of Tina Fey’s dirty old man jokes. Aside, She’ll never be on a best-dressed list but I actually think her dress sense is interesting, in a weird, something-different for the tabloid pages kind of way.

  74. Ellis Alter says:

Nothing can make an old man look older than standing next to a beautiful young woman.

  75. verelleyj says:

Omg. Does anyone else notice he’s marrying his female doppelganger. He’s marrying himself, in female form. The first thing I noticed when these two came on the scene was that they look so similar!

  76. Goldenretriever says:

They look great together blah blah blah. For the life of me… I’ll never get why they/he have rolled out the engagement this way. Why didn’t they just bugger off and get married ala fran from the nanny? They have both been absolutely slaughtered by social media etc. (The posters on the people thread are in an absolute state). No wonder she has lost weight, poor thing and the pressure seems to make her dress like a hello kitty clown, but anyhow … Good luck to them.

  77. BlackBetty says:

What about her career? Is she going to give up her career, to be near him?

  78. Nonny says:

    Nancy Dell’Olio version 2.0

  79. Selina says:

THe black is not doing her dark colouring any favours–it plays up her harsh Elvira/witchy looks. But she’s a pretty witch.
