Reese Witherspoon in Dolce & Gabbana at TIFF: stunning or budget?

Here are some assorted photos from TIFF from the past few days. This is just a hodge-podge of fashion stuff which interested me. I apologize in advance if I’m not covering the actors you want to see! Let’s start with Reese Witherspoon in this great Dolce & Gabbana dress. This was last night at the TIFF premiere of The Good Lie. Reese has several films coming out this year, and it’s up for debate as to which one she’ll push for another Oscar nomination. It could be this one, The Good Lie. Anyway, I like this a lot. Reese always looks great in jewel tones.

Chloe Grace Moretz at the premiere of The Equalizer. Her dress is Christian Dior Spring 2014. Chloe has been wearing a lot of Dior recently. It feels like she wants to be taken very seriously as a fashion girl, but… I don’t know, I’m not that jazzed about her reliance on Dior.

Eddie Redmayne is pretty much the only guy who can pull off this suit. I love him.

Jessica Chastain flew to TIFF right after Deauville! She was there to promote Miss Julie. The black-and-white dress is Dior. It’s nice, but I’d like to see her in a bright color.

Naomi Watts has been all over the place at TIFF. Here’s her look at the St. Vincent premiere – this jumpsuit is Stella McCartney and I surprisingly don’t hate it.

The fashion ID on this one is a little screwy, but I think this dress is Antonio Berardi. Great color. Not crazy about the design. Naomi’s pretty ageless though, right? Her face looks amazing.

And here’s Kristin Wiig in Suno. Eh. I think Kristin really wants to be a fashion girl and I’m not sure this dress gets her there.

    UGH.

  2. Snazzy says:

That green (edit: mint?) suit is wonderful 🙂

  3. Lori says:

I think Kristin Wig looks terrible. But its more that hair than the dress. What’s with all the brassy blondes these days. Is everyone using GOOP’s colourist?

  4. QQ says:

Pretty much everyone here except for Naomi and Eddie is either Boring or an Eyesore.. there is no inbetweeing, Huh?

    • Snazzy says:

hahah totally! But I do love Eddie’s look!!

    • Rae says:

I can see how people would think Jessica Chastain’s dress is boring, but I love the cut, and I love her. Also, the color blocking in the skirt provides an interesting accent. All in all, I’m a fan.

I don’t know what’s up with that black bustier(?) on Naomi’s purple dress, but the color is absolutely amazing.

I love Reese’s dress. It’s very Reese and a great color on her.

Naomi in the black jumpsuit looks a little try hard to me.

Kristen is getting on my nerves.

  6. Abbott says:

Still waaaay early in the game, but Eddie is all but a lock for a Best Actor nom. Murray and Beetlejuice didn’t follow through on the early buzz and Eddie (and Felicity Jones) is the only one the industry sites are really talking about out of TIFF. Your move, Cumberbatch.

    Kristen Wiig makes me sad.

  7. Josephine says:

I think that Reese’s hair and make-up have never been better. I also like the dress. It’s a bit more mod than her usual choices and the color is great. Reese is one of those gals who usually never makes a major misstep, but usually doesn’t awe, either. I think this is darn good for her.

what is with all the pursed closed tight stick up the butt smiles today? frotox?
how much better do the people smiling look? even in awful clothes they win, hands down.

    • Sea Dragon says:

If you’re referring to Mrs. Entitled “Do you know my name?!” then I can tell you exactly what’s up- she’s 38 and getting nervous about her age.

I think she looks absolutely beautiful which is unfortunate only because for once it would be nice to see a real Hollywood actress’ appearance match her “I’m above the law” attitude.

  9. Tig says:

Love both the styling and color of Reese’s dress. Re who did Naomi’s gown( not crazy about it)- did this person also design the gown that Ashley Green wore at Venice FF? That gown was gorgeous- who is this designer???

  10. Grant says:

I don’t love Reese’s dress but I do love her hair and makeup.

  11. luana says:

Wiig is a try hard. Let it go girl!

  12. Mischa Jane says:

I love Reese’s dress. She looks amazing!

Naomi looks good too. Hate Jessica’s bangs here, ugh.

  13. Izzy says:

Reese looks great… until you get to her orange legs. Overdid it with the spray tanner a bit.

  14. Stacey says:

Reese is a grade A entitled A-hole. I’m bummed she’s playing Cheryl Strayed in “wild”.

  15. lucy2 says:

Reese’s dress is cute. I finally saw Mud yesterday, she was good in that. Smaller dramas definitely suit her more than the rom com rut she was stuck in for a while there.
    I like Jessica’s dress too, it’s cute.

  16. Sugar says:

Chloe’s dress looks like a Project Runway unconventional materials challenge. The designer had 15 minutes in the dollar store and 15 minutes at the recycling center so he grabbed some placemats and made a dress, then stapled some recycled paper trash to the dress as the trim. Voila!

  17. Ice Queen says:

I can’t stand Reese but I love that dress. Jessica’s too.

  18. NEENAZEE says:

I love Reese’s dress. I’d wear it to work… feels like she could’ve glammed up a bit more for a film festival, tho.
I think CGM makes great, age-appropriate style choices (generally speaking) and looks adorable in the Dior dress. The mesh detail would be strange on someone older but I think she pulls it off. I like Jessica’s Dior and, in fact, have loved most of the Dior that’s been on the runway these past few years. Always very elegant, fresh, sharp.
Kristin Wiig doesn’t want to be a fashion girl, she just doesn’t want to make conventional choices. That’s why she always looks a bit off. She needs better style guidance, if she gets any at all.
Naomi looks great here. I saw her at Barney’s in Beverly Hills a few months ago… she is beautiful, luminous, friendly. And, hey, she gets to go home to Ray Donovan… I’d be smiling too.
