Rihanna kills it in a silver wig for Tush mag: overdone or fierce?

Rihanna

Rihanna has done it again. She’s made me write about her with only photos to talk about and no real news. This is a gorgeous editorial for Germany’s Tush magazine (which I’d never heard of and has nothing to do with tushies). She was photographed by Steven Gomillion and Dennis Leupold, who are RiRi’s occasional personal photos. They’ve taken many of her vacation photos. It must be cool to take vacations in exotic locales and not have to worry about taking good pictures. Ah, the life.

These pictures are simply stunning. Rihanna’s wearing a silver wig and manages to not look ridiculous. Some people are comparing her look to Storm from X-Men. That’s an oversimplification, I think. These photos are futuristic, apocalyptic, and angelic all at the same time. Kind of like a vengeful warrior queen who chooses to be merciful at whim. Rihanna would be a very bad angel, wouldn’t she?

I’m completely drawn in by this shoot and terribly jealous at how Rihanna can wear anything and look good. She owns every scrap of fabric that she’s ever worn. The makeup is so fierce here! Rihanna would slay the competition if there was any. Between this and Rih’s recent wild W shoot, she’s killing the editorials this year. Nuclear winter, man.

She is definitively stunning and photogenic at the same time!! Difficult to ignore even though this is not news of any kind……

  4. Abbott says:

It’s a mix of Storm and Tilda Swinton intergalactic realness.

  5. Just_askin says:

She looks gorgeous (as always). However, for some strange reason it annoys me that you can see a hint of her real hair underneath the wig.

  6. Mon says:

    Stunning!

  7. Dani2 says:

This is gorgeous. I was speechless, that’s how gorgeous this is. I love that she’s such a risk taker with her personal style and her photo shoots, no one does fashion like Riri.

  8. jane says:

Doesn’t matter how you feel about her, she is one of the most photogenic people around.

  9. Ag says:

She looks like some live-action version of some anime character.

  11. decorative item says:

She’s beautiful, but the wig looks like a wig to me.

  12. bns says:

AMAZING. I love her face. I need new music.

When you say “Storm” you don’t mean Halle’s Storm, do you? Because Halle wishes her Storm looked like this. Rihanna is killing it here, and I say this as a straight-up hater.

RiRi is so photogenic and a beautiful cover girl.

She’s truly a real bad-ass popstar. I’m always interested in seeing what she is in. Gaga and her fans thinks she’s it, but all Gaga does is play the martyr and cry about how she’s treated, the press is against her and her art, blah, blah, and her costumes are exhausting anymore. Rihanna truly could give two f’cks and just does what she wants and always has a really great unique style.

I liked Gaga a bit in 2009. Whenever she released the Fame Monster, I had a love/hate relationship with her. By the time Born This Way was released, I hated her guts.

Gaga annoyed me once she started going all “dark” in her music videos.

I groaned at her 2009 VMA’s performance of “Paparazzi” because the performance did not match the song at all. By the time she released the music video for “Alejandro”, I began to like her even less. I’ll be one to admit that I enjoyed her looks, even knowing that they weren’t even hers, but her attempt at being “blasphemous” really irked me, NOT because it offended me; my favorite genre of music is black metal, but because she obviously resorted to recycling the same sacrilegious tropes off of Madonna 20-something years prior in her music videos to attract controversy, even though “Alejandro” was still just an overproduced pop song with menial lyrics.

I started becoming REALLY annoyed when Gaga tried to appropriate herself with the metal community even though nothing she recorded ever sounded remotely like metal. Of course, it was relatively successful because the metal community is also largely heterosexual male and also unfortunately perverts. When the “Alejandro” video was released, every male metal head ever became a “self-confessed Gaga fan”. I’m sure that had a lot more to do with a sexy blonde in lingerie doing bad stuff with a crucifix than it did her actual songs.

All in all, I never really hated Gaga’s music even though I never bought a single record off of her. A few of her songs were pretty “miss” with me, but I really enjoyed most of her songs for what they were (see: NOT Gorgoroth). However, this Artpop album? Heinous. I couldn’t even get halfway through Applause when I first heard it. It appears as though she’s cashed in on the overly edited, overly repetitive, staccato, and unintelligible shouting bandwagon.

My biggest problem with Gaga is obviously that she takes herself way too seriously (even when she’s trying to be funny), she’s phony, and seems to do little more than run her mouth these days, but also that she’s a hypocrite. I remember toward the beginning of her career that she claimed that she wasn’t trying to be sexy or sell sex; meanwhile, she spent most of her career writhing around in a thong.

    • Anath Pariah says:

And Gaga needs to stop with the wigs already.

I’m not sure if “cheap and obvious” is what she’s going for, but it’s certainly not edgy. I get that most pop tarts wear wigs while they are out and performing or doing shoots, but she needs to just pick one and stick with it. If she’s trying to set herself apart or create another “iconic” look, switching from one busted wig to another isn’t helping either.

She’s an amazing model, so so so beautiful.

  17. Gia says:

Rihanna always kills it, but credit to the stylist and art director too.

  18. ashley says:

She’s slaying all of these photo shoots this year, she always has,but this year’ is more creative and futuristic! I can’t wait for new music from her,i’m so excited!

  19. Dotty says:

I am too distracted by the gap between her forehead and her wig, and all the seemingly random white powder there. meh.

  20. Yeah says:

I think she’s a beautiful woman, but she looks really rough to me here.

  21. Josefa says:

RiRi is stupidly photogenic. She’s one of the few celebs who can replace actual models in fashion mags, because she does the job right. She’s got fantastic presence and I like that she goes for edgier editorials instead of the pretty-dress-hand-on-hips-miss-America-smile sh*t every actress in the world does.

Go RiRi go, you fierce bitch.

  22. Ramoxb says:

Anime princess alright with all the superpowers and universe saving crusade ! Iabsolutely love it. And I love Riri for living her life unapologetically .

  23. Lucy says:

Once again: She should have been a model instead of a singer.

  24. Anath Pariah says:

    I love it, actually.

I really don’t care for Rihanna professionally and she needs to keep her ego in check, but I often like her style.

  25. Kimberly says:

I don’t like her anymore but she looks good here.
