Emma Stone goes vintage-y in Chloe at Paris premiere: lovely or bland?

Here are some photos from last night’s Paris premiere of Woody Allen’s Magic In the Moonlight. Emma Stone is Woody’s newest muse – I guess he’s done with Scarlett Johansson (they haven’t worked together in a while, actually). In Magic In the Moonlight, a period film set in the late 1920s, Emma plays some kind of psychic/seer/con-artist and Colin Firth is tasked with proving that she’s a fraud, except he falls in love with her. Emma has been filming a new Woody Allen movie with Joaquin Phoenix too, which I guess will be out next year. Just FYI.

Anyway, for the Paris premiere, Emma wore this rather charming Chloe dress. I tend to think she was aiming for a vintage-y vibe and it works. She doesn’t look like she’s wearing a costume, but there are some vintage vibes to her look, especially her hair. This is the kind of dress that only really works on slender women, you know. If Kim Kardashian tried to wear this, it would be a disaster. Emma’s shoes are Louboutins, by the way.

And I’m also including some photos of Colin Firth and his lovely wife Livia Giuggioli. Livia’s ensemble is… well… not the best. But I still love her. Such an elegant, patrician woman.

PS… Emma put her hand on her stomach briefly during the premiere, which totally means a furry socialist got her pregnant.

I think Colin’s wife is an activist and/or vegan, and her fashion choices are sometimes constrained by her politics. I agree that she is lovely.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I really like Emma and Colin. I’m so disappointed in both of them for working with Woody Allen.

    • Abbott says:

Agree with GNaT. And seemingly proud of it? I dunno…. you’d think she’d want to distance herself from him. But here she is, continuing to film with him and out promoting. Huh.

    • Gina says:

Agree completely. It never fails to amaze me how many people will set aside their morals t to work with him because of the prestige of being in a Woody Allen movie.

And they always get a pass (or even an Oscar in a few cases).

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

She is trying to rebrand herself as a serious actress. She has been making smart choices, but ugh at working with Woody Allen. Even if you leave out his private life, I don’t get the fuss over him as a director, sure he made a couple of great films, but the majority have been mediocore.
Also magic in the moonlight looks like a mess, it features Colin Firth dressed up as caricature of an Asian magician, including yellow face.
You should check out set pictures of Emma filming a romantic scene with Joaquin, her facial expression is like “this better get me an Oscar nom.”

I love this look. The dress, hair, makeup, shoes, but every time I see her I can only think of how thin she has gotten.

  4. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

    Flawless.

  5. tinyfencer says:

Emma is so pretty, but her makeup always looks very harsh, clowny, and overdone to me.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

      +1

    • BooBooLaRue says:

      +1

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

she seems to be going for a 20s style, so overdone makeup is kind of fitting.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, but it was even horrible back then. 😉 It was the first phase of women being allowed to wear make-up in public (and not being mistaken for a prostitute) and they put it on like teenagers do it when they are finally “old enough” to smear their faces with bright blue eyeshadow and fuchsia pink lipstick.

  6. Sugar says:

Well, of course the Colin Firth character falls in love with the extremely young-looking Emma Stone character. It’s a Woody Allen movie, isn’t it? So gross. Pass.

  7. Pager90 says:

Love Emma, very pretty, always gets it right for her.

Colin Firth looks great. He and his wife seem very loving towards each other. Love them together.

    • Chris2 says:

I love Livia and Colin too……it’s heartening to see erstwhile young gods get even better with age!
This Emma…..ye gods please think twice about all that lurid eyeshadow next time!

  8. PunkyMomma says:

Please don’t shoot – no on the dress. Way too much going on. But thank you for Mr. Darcy. 👅

  9. Algernon says:

Of course Woody Allen is done with Scarlett Johansson. She’s nearly 30 now. Too old for him these days, I’m afraid.

    *barf noises*

    • Kimmy says:

Emma and Joaquin or Emma and Colin? Not sure which is harder to buy.

    • Kimberly says:

LOL….oh yeah now that explains why she’s no longer his muse. I forgot she was hitting 30.

He’s on to new and younger meat.
The thought of it makes me gag to.

  10. Luciana says:

She might be pregnant. She’s glowing!

  11. InvaderTak says:

    Bad makeup. Looks poorly executed.

  12. don't kill me i'm french says:

Livia, your shoes are very very ugly and unflattering

  13. OTHER RENEE says:

Love Emma’s dress and entire look. Livia, not so much.

  14. Lola says:

Emma looks very nice, but for some reason I am not feeling the color of the dress, maybe if it were a combination of cream and red ….

    • Marianne says:

she would probably look too much like her character then, since in the movie she wears a red and cream dress.

  15. Abby_J says:

Colin Firth is a beautiful, beautiful man, and an amazing actor. I adore him so very much.

Now I am off to watch Pride and Prejudice, and pretend that Firth is NOT out shilling for a Woody Allen movie, because he is just so very awful. Gross and awful.

As far as the ladies go, I don’t mind Mrs. Colin Firth’s outfit. I wouldn’t wear it, but it doesn’t offend me. I am TOTALLY jealous of her, though. Emma Stone’s outfit is awesome, although I hate her shoes.

Oh, and the hand on the stomach TOTALLY means that she is pregnant. Probably with twins. Maybe triplets!

  16. Zee says:

    She looks fantastic

  17. whatsmyname? says:

    Woody Allen uuuuuuugh

  18. Marianne says:

I think she looks absolutely lovely and very appropriate for the movie premiere.

Im not going to see the movie though. I can’t really support Woody Allen. I saw Midnight in Paris and liked it, but that was back when I was ignorant and didnt really know of his allegations. I dont plan on watching his movies from here on out. But I dont judge any actors that choose to work with him.

  19. Chinoiserie says:

I do not know, I think she could be pregnant. I usually do not speculate about pregnancies but her face does not look it did at one point and she is wearing a loose black dress.

  20. Jessica says:

It’s a Woody Allen picture, so I’m obviously going to skip it on principle. But also, what the hell with Colin Firth’s character falling in love with Emma Stone’s? No offense, and love me some Colin, but he is too old to be playing a character who falls in love with Emma Stone. Unless the movie is all about how creepy Colin’s character is for falling in love with such a young woman… but knowing what a creep Woody Allen is, I’m sure that’s not the case.

    • Kimberly says:

Older man having a relationship with a very young woman (young enough to be his child) ……..sums Woody’s obsession with young girls and women perfectly. Sick man he is.

  21. starr says:

Emma looks fantastic! If she was going for a 1920’s vibe for the period movie, she got it bang-on. She would have been perfect in The Great Gatsby. Come to think of it, I would have rather seen her play the main female role, rather than Carey Mulligan in that film.

  22. Lucy says:

Wonderful. She really does look like an old-Hollywood movie star.

  23. Kimberly says:

    I think she looks lovely.
I don’t even like the dress but she can wear almost anything and look fantastic.
