Did David Bowie sleep with Marianne Faithfull & Elizabeth Taylor?

bowie1

It’s kind of crazy to think about David Bowie’s rock ‘n roll life and all of the places he’s been and all of the people he’s slept with, and now he just lives a very quiet life in New York with his wife Iman. They rarely go out and they rarely seek any added publicity. I tend to believe he’s probably pretty happy with his life the past two decades, when everything really calmed down for him. But that doesn’t mean we can’t relive some of his old escapades! There’s a new biography (I believe it’s unauthorized) and it seems Bowie was up for anything sexually in the old days. Cocaine will do that. I’ve heard some of this stuff before (Susan Sarandon, Mick Jagger), but some of it is news to me. You can read the full NYDN piece here and here are some highlights:

*His first wife, Angie: She was a “notorious hedonist” and together they “were notorious about weaving a sexual web around those who took their fancy.” They “met while they were both having an affair with the same man.”

*In 1969, Angie set them up in Haddon Hall where she “pampered” him with a drawn bath every morning and then later, she had “an uncanny ability to bring home the most free-spirited girls.”

*In the 1970s, Bowie told people “I’m gay and always have been,” but his friend Tony Zanetta says: “When we were in bed together, he was more sensual and narcissistic. To him, it was about being adored. . . . I don’t think sex mattered to him.”

*Orgies: At their home off King’s Road, Angie placed a 4-foot-deep bed covered in fur in the living room and named it “the pit.” “Angie and David used to have the most amazing orgies at Oakley St. Everybody f—– everybody in the pit. Mick Jagger used to come there and be involved with sexual things,” says a source.

*Apparently, he hooked up with Bette Midler too!! Oh, and Slash says that Bowie had an affair with his mom, Ola Hudson, who was a costume designer.

*Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor were BFFs, but some people thought they were lovers too. Whenever he was in LA, they would get together and “share gossip and makeup tips.”

*Bowie also slept with Mick Jagger’s wives/girlfriends, including Bianca Jagger and Marianne Faithfull.

[From The NYDN]

There are more names in there, but I think we can safely assume that Bowie banged pretty much everybody in the 1970s and 1980s. Some sources even claim he was a sex addict at one point, but who knows? The weirdest connection, to me, is the Elizabeth Taylor one. What on earth? Who would have even thought that they would have anything to say to each other? That being said, Taylor always loved beautiful, difficult boys. She adored Montgomery Clift, remember. Yeah… okay, I bet Bowie and Taylor did have an affair.

    Who didn’t he bang?

  3. Yellowshaba says:

Cant get mad at him for being do amorous either, just cause hes Bowie..unlike a Lohan

  4. Aussie girl says:

My first thoughts are, I hoped that fur rug in, “the pit” got cleaned. I must be getting old girls.

  5. SnarkGirl says:

    Oh that smile … *melts*

  6. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Since Elizabeth Taylor is dead then that is just plain nasty; the corpsey looking photo doesn’t help the situation either. Iman must be mortified.

  7. Jayna says:

Right off the bat, these excerpts have blatant factual inaccuracies. Cheap book. You can watch documentaries on him in Britain that interview real people in his life back then that makes some of this stuff look like he just made it up or came from nobody sources and just culled other stuff from everything already out there.

THIS. I’m a Bowie fanatic and when I read this my BS radar just lit up the room. I’ve read and viewed countless interviews with Bowie and my gut instinct with this book is ‘talentless writer needs to make money’. Anyway, I don’t care, he is my favoruite husband.

  8. Kiddo says:

The connection with Elizabeth Taylor doesn’t seem as far fetched if you’ve read stories about her. She was clearly someone who did drugs, drank, and had a lot of men, herself. If she lived in our times, she’d probably be considered a hot mess.

  9. Phenix says:

There’s a really beautiful picture of Taylor and Bowie sharing a cigarette, with their arms around each other – reportedly that was taken the first time they met. Google if interested!

  10. Jayna says:

The thing I love and was so surprised about Bowie is in interviews until he retired from public and performing after his heart problem he was so hysterical in interviews and could be so goofy, not stuffy as he got older. He was adorable. I could see how Iman fell for him on their first date.

Have you ever seen anyone so sexy at 55 in the clip below? I haven’t. And nobody wore a suit better. Performing one of my favorite Bowie songs, Hero, and making such cute jokes. Aw…………..

2002, Bowie in Berlin 2002. Heros. (I melt watching him here.) Talking to himself, “Ah, shut up Bowie,” when he’s talking to the audience. I love him.

Thank you for this! I loved it! Some live Bowie is a great way to start the day.

I had a chance to see Bowie perform in the 80’s. It’s one of my best memories from my teen years. He is an incredible live performer. One of the best I’ve ever seen. I’ll always treasure that day.

Thank you for this link! How cute was he with his gorgeous floppy blonde fringe? 😉

He is lovely, funny, charming and witty. Love this interview with the german version of David Letterman and he sings afterwards 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7yb_YKSzQE

I remember the interview/pictures in Hello of their wedding. They both said they met each other at the right time because they had done everything they could possibly do and we’re looking to settle down.

The way they live always reminds me of that interview.

    • Ag says:

that’s a really cool quote. and i can def relate to it. my husband and i feel that way too. have we met in our 20s, it’s very likely that we would not have appreciated each other and our relationship, we didn’t know our a$$es from our elbows back then. in our early-mid 30s, we were def looking for something different. 🙂

  12. Adrien says:

Duh! It was the late sixties to seventies, everyone has slept with everyone else.

  13. Monksolo says:

and he slept with Mick Jagger too! one of the funniest revelations of the early 90s on Joan Rivers talk show.

  14. Eleonor says:

Ah the good ol’ 60’s and 70’s ! The golden age of r’n’r

  15. Suzy from Ontario says:

One of the few concerts I went to was a Bowie concert. Love him! And he’s gotten even better as he’s aged and matured… gracious and charming and funny and kind. I remember seeing him on a tv show where people called in and requested a song and he’d sing it and a little boy (a toddler) called in and he was so sweet with him. I love that he and Iman are still together. 🙂
As for all the sex in the early days…not unusual for the times. People were experimenting and very sexual in those days, especially musicians.

  16. Micki says:

I’ll sleep with him if he’ll read the phonebook for me. Love his voice.

I’ve always found these photos of Taylor and Bowie quite intriguing

  19. Malificent says:

Nothing surprising about Marianne Faithfull — she slept with everybody and so did Bowie. So, it would be statistically unlikely that they didn’t boink at some point. However, Liz is a more interesting thought. She was a woman who could appreciate a good flirt. And back in the late 60s/early 70s, she was in early middle age. I actually don’t find it that weird.

    • DameEdna says:

Marianne didn’t sleep with Dylan……she wrote that he carried on like Rumpelstiltskin when she turned him down. She also said she regretted it afterwards. As you would.

As for Bowie….as long as he keeps bigging up Scott Walker, he’s some kind of a hero in my book. Not nearly enough love for Scott in this world.

  20. Fran says:

    Does anyone
    care?

  21. bettyrose says:

I like to think I would’ve had my turn if I’d been old enough in the 80s. He was a very giving person, sharing his beauty all around. Even my mostly straight guy admits to having Bowie fantasies in the 80s.

  22. Madrid says:

He is a fecking genious. Soooo talented…

  23. Pager90 says:

No one is cooler than Bowie. I only put Prince in the same catagory with him. Two cool, super talented guys, who walk to the beat of their own drummer.

Has anyone here ever seen the movie that stars Jonhantan Rhys Meyers,Ewan McGregor, that was rumored to use Bowie as it’s inspiration called Velvet Goldmine?

  24. Chrissy says:

Not surprised in the least. Cocaine and Rock n Roll went hand in hand
in the Sixties and Seventies and as was stated above, everyone slept
with everyone else. So??? The fact that Bowie is a kind, sweet
and cultured man who happens to be uber-talented is much more news-
worthy in this day and age of egotistical, deluded morons calling
    themselves talented. Yeezus anyone?

  25. Kathryn Prime says:

I love Dave he is my all time hero.
Cool story: in the 80s my husband was an extra on Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. They were filming in Rarotonga. All the extras were told to stay away fromMr Bowie and not talk to him so, following instructions, they basically ignored him. Dave must have felt lonely because he kept coming over to chat and joke around. On the last night the extras were all partying away and Dave said he would play as long as he didn’t have to play any Of his own songs so he played covers all night. That would have been so freaking awesome!!

  26. Boredsuburbanhousewife says:

Adore talented men with great style like Bowie & Bryan Ferry.

The Thin White Duke forevah and evah……

  27. Jayna says:

I wonder if he and Tina Turner ever had a thing. They were so hot together in this video singing Tonight on her tour where he made an appearance, and then they start slow-dancing together. Tina was smokin’ hot. LOL at the fan jumping on stage all over Bowie, almost taking him down. What an amazing duet.

  28. Ravensdaughter says:

Poor Iman-she is the most beautiful of them all and came long after. This is just TMI for everyone. I think-and I know I am not alone in this- that he is transcendent enough as an an artist to put aside the history of his sex life.

I guess the best solution is just look for another book! The Bowie exhibit at the V & A Fall 2013 (approx) highlighted his tremendous talent-I’m sure more than one book with the same focus came out during that time.
