Dakota Johnson goes blonde following her ‘Fifty Shades’ mess: flattering?

Here are some photos of Dakota Johnson in London over the weekend. She was attending the London Stella McCartney Green Carpet Challenge Collection, which I guess means something something eco-clothing. In case you’re already bored, I’ll point out why these photos are notable: Dakota went back to her blonde hair. Thank God!! Dakota has been a blonde for most of her career, but she dyed her hair a mousy shade of brown for Fifty Shades of Grey, and she kept the color for too long. It didn’t help that in addition to the (cheap-looking) dye job, Dakota was given a really bad hairstyle overall. Ana Steele is supposed to dark, unruly, curly hair. Dakota’s 50 Shades hair just looked like someone messed up her ill-advised perm.

Anyway, I think she looks so much better in these pics. The blonde suits her and she found a good conditioner. The blonde might be for a movie she’s filming right now called A Bigger Splash. Guess who she’s working with? Ralph Fiennes!! And Tilda Swinton!!!! Tilda and Ralph play a couple (OMG PERFECT) and Dakota plays the daughter of someone’s former lover or something. This is actually the second somewhat prestigious film Dakota has scored after filming Fifty Shades – she also got a supporting part in Black Mass, the Whitey Bulger movie with Johnny Depp and Bendy Batch.

As for Fifty Shades, I really hope producers have gently suggested to Dakota that she may want to take a media training class, because chica is going to need some help when she starts the publicity tour. Everybody is going to want to talk to her too – there is still an enormous amount of interest in Fifty Shades. The trailer is still the #1 most viewed trailer, for the past three weeks in a row. Oh, and the Fifty Shades Twitter account released this new image last week:

  2. Chris says:

    Dakota is the new Britney.

  3. PunkyMomma says:

The hair looks over-treated. The dress is unflattering. Love the shoes.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

She IS blonde! She darkened her hair for 50 Shades. Look at Melanie and Don-she was a soft honey blonde before. This was a re-dye job, so maybe she wanted to up the ante-to brassy blonde! The dress is so awful I missed the shoes!

But what really matters is the trailers just look…stupid.

  4. jinni says:

Blonde or brunette the girl is just plain no matter the color.

  5. Kaye says:

    Too harsh, IMO.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too. I don’t think it’s becoming at all. I actually think she’s prettier brunette. Plus, if your hair is that light, your eyebrows should be lighter. It looks too obvious that you’re really brunette if they’re that dark.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

Yes, yes, yes. Brassy & overall just icky.

    • Stef Leppard says:

Agreed. It’s not a good blond. She needs something less yellow. I think I actually prefer her as a brunette.

And she found a good conditioner……..

Kaiser throwing that subtle shade LOL.

  7. lenje says:

    Her look is very 70-ish!

  8. Nicole says:

    Scully!

  9. Meme says:

Ugh. Bad hair, worse dress (does stella ever design anything NICE?)

  10. Kali says:

Oh my GOD that twitter picture.

    *headdesk*
    *facepalm*

  11. LK says:

Eh, i like dark hair better on her. The blonde makes her swfikgbdduoonglputd *snores*

  12. Artimis says:

She looks so much like Gillian Anderson with blonde hair!

  13. Lucy2 says:

I think this blonde color is a bit harsh, but maybe it’s just the camera flash.

  14. Tig says:

I read yesterday that she donated $$ to save slaughter bound horses. Her heart is in the right place- she looks fine as a brunette, but if she’s staying blond, she needs a warmer shade- 50 shades of blond? Sorry, couldn’t resist!

  15. kri says:

Kudos to her for her kindness to animals. I think her family (or at least her mom) are animal-rights activists. That dress is awful. It’s like ice skater meets prairie meets maxi pad. I like the blonde idea, but this seems a bit too harsh.

  16. Susan says:

I will never understand why ladies feel when they go blonde they must go suicide blonde. There are so many flattering shades of blonde that aren’t peroxide.

  17. Bangarang says:

I thought it was lohan for a second

  18. maddelina says:

Pretty girl, crappy hair color and style.

  19. GlimmerBunny says:

She looks good blonde but I wish it was a more natural shade, like the one she had in “The Social Network”.

  20. Alex says:

she looks like a different person blonde. Way more striking…although she is still plain. But her look for 50 shades is tragic. They missed the boat not casting Alexis Bledel or even Lucy Hale (who auditioned actually). Eh not like I’m going to see the movie I haven’t even read the books lol

  21. Aly says:

This girl in incredibly unattractive. Is the character in the book supposed to be painfully plain jane and land some rick, kinky hottie?? Lame.

Everytime I see her I just can’t help but wonder how she became semi famous (haha I kid I know she has parent who used to be celebs. Hollywood nepotism at its finest)

    • Pirate says:

Yeah, Ana in the books is supposed to plain jane, so, physically she fits. She just doesn’t have anything that sets her apart in Hollywood.

She’s only gotten parts, from what I seen of hers, due to her parents. What little I’ve seen of hers, I had to literally turn off only a few minutes in.

  22. Sister Carrie says:

    Where is her right hand?

  23. lissilou says:

It’s an improvement I guess, but she is just nothing special, hate to say it. Hollywood kids love to say they worked really hard to get where they are, but it just ain’t true.

    • Ash says:

Yeah, I love when Hollywood spawn say they’ve worked so hard to get where they are. I find stories like Jim Carrey’s and the like, who lived on the streets to make it. I could go on for hours about these prevailed tools, half of them don’t even have the talent you would expect.

  24. Gail says:

Gee, I’m in the minority here, but I think she looks great. Her chosen blonde is a bit of an unnatural shade, granted, but I think she/her stylist is going that route on purpose and I think it works for her. It’s nice to see her trying something new. Get ready for those interviews, Dakota!

  25. serena says:

Meh, she should go for a full darker brown (not the Ana one), her blonde hair looks like cheap straw.
