Jerry Seinfeld gets marriage advice reality show

Jerry Seinfeld has come up with a truly asinine reality TV show. And for something to be asinine for reality TV is really saying something. But he’s managed to do it, with a pointless show about couples who are going through problems in their marriage. The show will feature guests celebrity judges/commentators, who will advise the couples on how to handle their troubles.

Jerry Seinfeld is reteaming with NBC to launch his first reality series. The comedian’s project is tentatively called “The Marriage Ref” and features celebrities, comedians and athletes who will judge couples in the midst of marital disputes while recommending various strategies to resolve their problems.

“Some of the greatest comedies in the history of television have been around marriages,” [NBC co-chair Ben] Silverman said. “The concept is so universal and accessible, and obviously it works so well when it comes from somebody with a point of view — and nobody has a stronger point of view on this subject than Seinfeld.” Six one-hour episodes have been ordered for a planned fall release.

Seinfeld’s role is behind the camera as an executive producer and creator, but given the show’s celebrity-guest format, it’s not too difficult to imagine an occasional on-camera appearance. Executive producer Rakieten said Seinfeld’s voice will be evident in the show’s commentaries. “Every single person in a relationship can completely relate to this show,” Rakieten said. “We all have the same fights, and there’s a bottomless well of content.”

Added Seinfeld: “This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich.”

Interesting that Seinfeld thinks he knows so much about marriage and relationships that he should create and produce a show advising people about them. Considering he met his wife Jessica while she was on her honeymoon with her first husband. Quite the tawdry beginning. I wonder if he’ll advise couples to seduce newly married folks?

Ever since the whole scandal with Jessica Seinfeld copying another writer’s cookbook – and the terrible way Jerry Seinfeld handled the situation (name calling, mocking on Letterman, etc), I haven’t been able to stand him. The show sounds stupid regardless, and I can’t say I wish the guy much luck.

That is a horrible dress his wife is wearing! it looks like something my 8 year old nieces would wear!

I loved Seinfeld and miss it still, but I hate reality TV and probably won’t watch this and I also agree he was an ass when all that about his wifes book came out. Talk about having no class!

This is completely hilarious. Jerry Seinfeld giving marital advice is like giving the guy who just mugged you the keys to your house and then asking him to house sit, lol.

What could this horsed faced fool know about marriage that doesn’t involve being in the middle of someone elses’?.

    Chiclet toothed, unfunny JACK#SS!.

Whatever, people. I will try watching the show, just because I am a fan of Jerry Seinfeld. I probably won’t keep up with it (I can’t stand reality TV), though.

I miss his original show, Seinfeld. That was, and always will be, his greatest work.

Marriage advice from Jerry Seinfield? You mean, “make millions and millions of dollars, be a serial dater of many, many, MANY women (all non-Jewish), and when you finally feel you need to start a family, buy a golddigger (but she must be Jewish!) from Vermont.” Okay, whatever. No thanks!

I used to be a huge fan of Jerry Seinfield until I read two biographies about him. Not a likeable guy in real life.

And, yes, Jessica always struck me as b-tchy and super smug, like “I’m better than you now because I am the lucky woman who happened to be there at the right time in his life… hehehehe!”

Just pick up a biography of Jerry Seinfield. Eck.

By Hollywood standards they have been married a long time but I am surprised there was not more fall out on the fact that she was married when they started their relationship. I don’t think I can watch a show that gives marital advice from people who often marry as a PR stunt and have children because everyone else does.

Jessica had just returned from her honeymoon, she hadn’t even opened her wedding presents, (I know someone who knew the couple) and she started making goo goo eyes at Jerry at the gym. Seinfeld knew she was newly married and pursued her anyway. This is someone whose judgement I should trust?
His wife got bored being a pampered housewife and wanted to hit the talk show circuit – so she plagiarized someone else’s work. Jerry swoops in to support his wife by defaming and mocking the woman his wife plagiarized. Once again – why should I listen to this man’s comments?

@Tina: His former girlfriend Shoshanna Lonstein (or whatever) is Jewish. That’s the one he got caught making out with in the theatre during Schindler’s List.
