The Alamooney wedding included standards from Irving Berlin, Cole Porter

people

People Magazine keeps releasing parts of their Alamooney cover story this week in drips and drabs. Obviously, the big money release was the cover shot, then the information about Amal searching for “Mr. Perfect” and giving up cigarettes once she’d found him. The rest of the info is just… catch-up details about the wedding, basically. Still, it’s interesting if you’re a full-blown Alamooney Loonie. Some highlights:

*George chose Nora Sagal, “the teenage daughter of Warner Bros. executive David Sagal,” to sing at the wedding. Nora sang the Irving Berlin standard “Always” at the wedding ceremony, then she performed Cole Porter’s “Why Shouldn’t I?” for George and Amal’s first dance. George “discovered” Nora while he was filming The Monuments Men and he had her record a Christmas song for the soundtrack.

*There’s also more info about the cake: it was a “4-tiered, square-style cake sat perched on a round table surrounded by votive candles. Designed to coordinate with the wedding’s elegant surroundings, the chocolate cake was ‘gold art deco to match the dining room,’ Clooney says. But how did it taste?

*In case you wanted to know if Amal wore something special from her parents on her big day… yes, she did. Her parents gave her a pair of earrings which she wore on her wedding day. They were “natural pearl earrings with square-cut diamond accents…The pearls were harvested from the waters of Bahrain and made by a Lebanese jeweler, Chatila — all details that might hold special significance to the Beirut-born beauty.”

*Oh, and E! News says that the Alamooney wedding cost $4.6 million – go here to read the breakdown. The most amazing figure? They claim that Amal’s Alexander McQueen custom dress (the red & black one she wore the night before the wedding) cost $380,000. WTH?!!?

The level of detail is incredible. He actually described how the cake design matched the dining area? Wow.

I’m almost afraid of what the next round of details will be. Please don’t let it be about the wedding night, personal grooming, etc.

  2. mimif says:

I can’t wait to hear what Abbot has to say about this latest round.

    • Sabrine says:

Well, a lot of people eat up these wedding details and then there are those who do not. I would like to see the wedding photos. I think she has amazing legs, not those bony knees like the Hilton girls have.

George is not interested in running for any political office. Just because he got married doesn’t mean he wants to run for President. His focus is humanitarian work.

      • nora says:

        he French press this morning revealed that the uncle of Ms. Clooney is Ziad Takieddine (I c is not who he says is too long you: but he is pursued by the French justice more traffics weapons of affairs some corruption are linked al former President Sarkozy etc …) so his uncle has asked the French court to let him go to Venice and London on October 26 for the marriage of his niece;
If George wants to present political ca could pose some problem right?
sorry for my english I use google translation
        http://www.lexpress.fr/styles/vip/ziad-takieddine-est-l-oncle-d-amal-alamuddin-la-femme-de-george-clooney_1605745.html

      • Me says:

Everything about her is terrorism/mob related, but we’re not allowed to talk her politics or that he spent millions on his 4 day PR campaign of a wedding but OUR money is supposed to be used to donate to HIS charity of choice via magazine purchasing. True “fair share” socialists, they are.

      • CG says:

@Me: if you’re still checking the comments, can you tell me about Amal’s Mob cousin you referenced further down? Any links to articles about his dodginess? I googled his name but didn’t come up with anything that looked suspect.

      • Sarah says:

@Me, I find your comment pretty disturbing. Just because she has a Middle Eastern background doesn’t mean that “everything about her is terrorism/mob related.” Sure, a French daily published a bare-bones article about how Ziad Takieddine is alleging that she’s his niece. For all we know it could be an unverified report, or he could be a distantly related uncle. Even if he is her mother’s sibling, it doesn’t mean anything. I certainly have relatives that have done unsavoury things, but I wouldn’t expect people to judge me by their actions.

As for the cousin you say is a “mob” member, this is his linkedin profile http://ae.linkedin.com/pub/tarek-miknas/5/642/330 Seems pretty aboveboard to me.

Now if you want to grouse about her style, or lack thereof, I will be more than happy to participate, but I find these sort of comments dangerous and disturbing, especially given her background.

    • mimif says:

Whoa. I was summoning one-liner Abbot, not the tin foil brigade.

  3. frisbeejada says:

Interesting piece in the Daily Telegraph today, William Hill have slashed the odds on George standing for US president because it’s believed his marriage has improved his image so much (sorry tried to link it but it just won’t work for me!) They have cut the odds from 800/1 to 100/1. Hmmmm. So I’m not alone in thinking this marriage is a business arrangement that suit’s both parties then…it’s certainly costing him a LOT of money if the wedding dress was $380,000 – methinks he was robbed…

    • mimif says:

The only way I’m voting for this guy is if BILL MURRAY is his running mate. The end.

    • Suzanne says:

NOT the wedding dress, cost that….The article above says that the RED dress she wore the night before cost $380,000!!!! That seems a tad unrealistic. The wedding gown probably cost that…or more! What difference does it make when he put a $700,000 ring on her finger. Money is no object for these people! NONE of it means diddly-squat if the marriage is a farce.

      • frisbeejada says:

Must have read it wrong then, but then if I read these articles at all I skim read out of sheer self protection – trying to avoid brain melt – most of the time I’m just here to read the comments 🙂

    • Tippy says:

These photos, especially those of Amal & George on the boat, conjure up images of Camelot.

      • Me says:

No, they don’t. These two are NOT Kennedys…they are NOT royalty…they are global elite snobs who pay pretend for a living…hide behind the facade while screwing us all behind it.

      • mimif says:

        You said screwing.

      • Kiddo says:

@mimif. I’ve reported this comment as offensive and spammy and also lacking in BILL MURRAYNESS.

      • Gail says:

not in my mind, they don’t.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

The boat ride reminded me of the Bellagio Casino commercial.

      • jane16 says:

I’m a liberal, but never was a Kennedy worshipper. Especially loathe Ted after what he did to that girl. As far as “camelot” which is supposed to be Jackie and JFK’s marriage…talk about a farce! That was a miserable marriage.

    • Angie says:

Whatever he’s planning to run for, it’s not the US presidency. For that he’d need an American bride, and there are plenty of beautiful long-stemmed left wing American attorneys running around with exotic international law practices that they can drop at a moment’s notice. Either it’s true love or he’s got something more global in mind,

      • Someonestolemyname says:

I wonder if that Porn star George use to date, has any private VIDEO on him?

      • jane16 says:

        Angie, well said.

some, what exactly does your comment have to do with Angies? Aren you ever going to tire of trolling us with your George hatred yet?

Day 5 of Alamooneypalooza and I’m beginning to feel the fatigue. It’s okay though. They won’t win. I can take more. I must. I feel like I owe it to my gossip sisterhood. George thinks he’s going to break me with his “quiet, private affair”. I have a surprise for him. *lightning crashes outside* I will be triumphant.

PS The cats have started to worry about my sanity and have learned to open cans by themselves just in case.

    • Jules says:

Cool, send one of those cats here so they can teach my cats………..I can’t leave my computer until the next installment of Alamooneypalooza………………

    • mia girl says:

      @Jaderu – don’t quit on me man!
There is still so much to know. For example –
Did they take dance lessons before the wedding?
And if so was she fluent, flowing effortlessly from the foxtrot to the tango to the Viennese waltz?
Did she wear a pair of those Goop endorsed monogrammed panties?
      Did she actually ingest cake?

You can do this. Take a deep breath, feed your cats and pull yourself together dammit!

      • Jaderu says:

        *sings softly and feebly*
        It’s been no bed of roses…no pleasure cruise. I consider it a challenge…I…I can’t go on…no. Yes…no… I can do it.
        Freddie? Is that you?
        *sobs*

      • mia girl says:

Here’s a little something to help you snap out of it…

Did you know George chose “Always” because it was his parents’ wedding song?

        Awwwww. Splendiferously sweet!!!!

      • Kiddo says:

See, I knew this shite would break you eventually. No sane human could take this much.

AND: Which one of you celebrity bitches posted the dagflam photo of MM in the links, as if the Klooney stories weren’t enough to drive a person over the edge?

        FESS UP!

Only 69 (teehee) comments so far on today’s post, so perhaps a ray of sunshine has been spotted. It may be over soon.
Why is she replying to her own post?
      I don’t know, ask her.
      *breaks into song*

      LMAO

You sound like Goldie Hawn in the scene , in Death Becomes Her where the Fire Marshall , Landlord and a police officer come to break down her down, because she’s stuck for months, transfixed , watching videos of Meryl Streep.

      🙂

  5. blue marie says:

Talk about over-share, I don’t know this much about the weddings I’ve actually been invited to.. We get it, you’re married, woopity-doo

    • noway says:

I don’t remember this much detail about my own wedding!!! I really can’t remember the food. I am sure we ate but can’t remember what and it wasn’t that long ago.

      • Santolina says:

LOL, that’s probably because you were happily in love. I’m willing to bet these two publicity hounds only have their conspicuously OTT trappings to remember.

  6. Kiddo says:

WHEN DO WE GET TO THE DETAILS ABOUT BILL MURRAY? WHAT DID HE DRINK? WHAT DID HE SAY? DID HE DANCE?

    • mimif says:

WHO STYLED HIS COIF? DID HE GO COMMANDO? DID HE HAVE THE MOST FUN??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • aqua says:

Love Bill Murray! He’s one celeb I would really like to know because he’s probably a blast and would be the life of every party.

    • luana says:

THIS! I think he’s the perfect drunk guest every wedding has to have

    • mia girl says:

I just got the funniest/scariest thought – imagine if Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day actually happened to him on the day of the Amalooney wedding.

      • Kiddo says:

It’s happening to us, everyday day, it’s back to George’s wedding, like it never ends, or moves fprward…signed Punxsutawney Phil.

      • siri says:

I think we’re all having our very personal Groundhog Day with this wedding…Bill Murray…I don’t know what he prefers to drink, but it sure was plenty.

      • mia girl says:

🎶🎵 Then put your little hand in mine, there ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb.
Babe, I got you babe 🎵🎶

      • Kiddo says:

Now that stupid song is rotating in my head over and over like this story, and yes I see what you did there.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

When does the ride in the little boats happen? Has it happened yet?

  7. Maya says:

It’s official – I now know more about George & Amal’s wedding then I know of my own.

    • Etheldreda says:

LOL! My brother got married on the same day. I was there and I STILL think I know more about George’s wedding than the one I actually attended!

  8. Suki2 says:

I have a question: who was there? I mean besides Matt, Rande, Cindy, Anna, Bono etc of whom there are countless photos. Who are the other 80 people? Missing info about family and friends…or does nobody care because they are not celebrities? Just curious.

    • FingerBinger says:

It was probably her family and friends. I’m guessing George has some non famous friends.

    • quindici says:

Well, if the judge let her uncle leave France to attend the wedding, Ziad Takieddine might have attended.

The article is in French. I did not want to put everything through google translator, but this paragraph is telling

“And because the Uncle of Amal Alamuddin was put on probation by the French justice in the investigation of suspected arms contracts …”

      http://www.atlantico.fr/atlantico-light/ziad-takieddine-reclame-droit-se-rendre-au-mariage-neveu-george-clooney-1785740.html

      • Suzanne says:

Skeleton’s coming slowly but surely out of the Amal closet????

      • siri says:

        Why am I not surprised?

      • Me says:

I don’t see how they can be “slow” and “sure”…that cousin whose wedding she “officiated” earlier in the summer? MOB. Most of her clients? Human rights VIOLATORS. Her boyfriends? She had at least one, hottest “barrister” that she is. Clooney’s PR guy will fire off a letter of hissy-fitness if ANYONE dare get off the narrative!

      • Sixer says:

This refers to a really big French political scandal where kickbacks for government arms deals – the arms industry really is the pits, in every country, not just France, isn’t it? – were used to finance campaigns for French presidential candidates. You can Google it – the Karachi affair.

      • hmmm says:

        Another Uncle Gary? LOL

The article also mentions that there is another wedding celebration on October 26 in London. This isn’t over by a long shot. Unbelievable.

This might explain why there has been dead silence about Amal’s history, and that includes family. And now it’s slowly leaking out.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

I knew this woman has too much swirling around her to be good for a political wife.
It might take awhile to drip drip drip out, but when it does it will be eye opening and people will wonder WTF?

        IMO

  9. Etheldreda says:

Nothing to reflect the bride’s heritage? No Lebanese music?

    No Fairouz?

    That’s a shame!

  10. BlueeJay says:

Wow – the way to win fans. Let them have pictures. People are eating this up and loving it. It all makes sense now. To get an adoring public you just need to sell your personal photos (weddings and babies). To bad ScarJo didn’t get the memo. How is she going to have an adoring public when she just won’t sell her personal life? Someone needs to tell her. Oh wait – maybe she just wants to act as a career and not be a celebrity. These actors/actresses who sell their personal lives are right up there with Kim K as far as I am concerned.

  11. delorb says:

My gawd! Is this still a thing? I was bored with their meet cute, their engagement and now the wedding. Are there that many people interested in this? Jeez.

  12. Jaded says:

What, no Bono singing something dreary and bleak about the world ending and haranguing the guests to donate money to the IOSTWB (International Organization to Save the Tasmanian Water Beetle)???

  13. HappyMom says:

I love all the photos of Venice and her (odd) dresses. Spectacular-Spectacular indeed!

    • Sara says:

Spectacular bad taste to flaunt wastefulness at a time when the world is suffering enormously. And it is all artificial-it’s all set up, all contrived. I don’t get the hype over this level of excess.

  14. DavidBowie says:

    I wish I had her legs. 🙁

  15. Leah says:

    I am over this now.
On the positive side. All the money from selling the pics to people etc go to charity, brangelina style.

    • Me says:

No…NOT “brangelna” style. They did not blow anywhere from $5-13M on a 4 day PR extravaganza and then expect everyone ELSE to donate their money to HIS charity. I mean, the statement “For every magazine purchased, a child in Dafur will be saved” that I saw yesterday? JUST CUT THE CHECK, rich man!

      • Sara says:

No one needed this public spectacle of waste, and to allude to the kinds of sufferings people in Darfur endure during said spectacle is highly disturbing.

  16. LAK says:

I’m a McQueen groupi/twihard, so I can say with authority that almalooney red dress didn’t cost $380K even though it was resurrected from the archives. Duchess Kate’s dress, even with discount, didn’t come to a third of that price and her dress was couture. Amalooney dress is a ready to wear resort collection.

A resort collection for designers is simply filler and isn’t particularly pricey nor is it couture.

McQueen couture dresses come up for auction from time to time, and are NEVER estimated higher than $50K. Not even when it’s Daphne Guinness selling it.

This price tag is BS. Utter BS.

Haute couture costs $380K, not resort collection ready to wear. There are only a handful of women who buy that level of Haute Couture and movie star spouses aren’t included in that very short list.

  17. Diana says:

For the love of… Enough with these two!!!

  18. Lahdidahbaby says:

I want people to like them so I won’t have to.

  19. Myrar says:

So there were show tunes at a stunt queen + drag queen wedding? And this is somehow news?

  20. DaSariH says:

I’m guessing George’s camp were reading those hilarious comment of her dressing like a four year old with hello kitty, bows and skulls and bone shirts and they’ve started dressing her up ala Katie Holmes did when she was with Tom. Well played Amalooney, well played!

  21. enastein says:

I think amal got new teeth , i could not figure what changes her before and after .. looking at her old smile and the wedding photos i guess she got new set. very nice work

Does anyone think her face is more refined than before? she is lovely but as if there is some extra change happened in her face.

  22. KinChicago says:

I love her dresses- such a welcome relief on sophistication and beauty.

    • Jayna says:

I loved all of them too. I thought she was so striking in the red dress. I loved it on her. The black-and-white striped sun dress was to die for and especially when I saw it up close in a photo, the way the stripes were made. I even liked the mullet dress, the lace, the pops of color. I just thought it was very designer fashion-foward that she pulled off. It worked for that photo-op moment. The civil ceremony outfit was perfection. And I loved her wedding dress. I just love the exquisite French lace on that dress.

I think she nailed the whole weekend of wedding festivity as far as her attire, always looking very high fashion.

      • sandra says:

Beats the glittery neon green hello kitty original style. Looks like Clooney is serving her well.

      • jane16 says:

I loved looking at all the clothes also, and not just Amal’s.

Sandra, agree that the sparkly skull tshirt was simply hideous. I don’t think fashion sense comes naturally to her, but she seems to be learning fast.

off topic, but, has anyone else noticed that there are a l o t of new screen names on these George posts? Ones that have never appeared here before? I’ve been reading and posting here for over 4 years (the 16 after my sn wass my youngest’s age at the time and he is almost 21), and the threads usually have a group of regulars, with a couple of newbies, these George/Amal posts seem just the opposite.

    • jane16 says:

Kim, agree with your comment. Oh, did you guys see this? A comparison between this and the kimye wedding. Pretty funny:

      http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/stasi-fairy-tale-weddings-hollywoods-article-1.1958917

  23. Ice Queen says:

I love her dresses, however, there’s no way that that dress costed 380K$. We get it. He’s a star, it was a high standard wedding. But blowing up the prices and over sharing details just makes them look stupid. Enough already.

  24. funny bone says:

Britain is not a immigrant nation per the British Embassy in Washington D.C. How did she manage to be raised in London England. After I posted this, there has been immigration since 1980.

  25. jane16 says:

Crazy Days & Nights has this new blind item up:

    “Blind Item #10
One person not invited to the actor wedding of the month was this A+ list mostly movie actress. Even though they have been friends forever, apparently they stopped speaking to each other a couple of years ago when the actor ended their on again off again affair permanently. ”

From the movie gossip I have heard, I’m guessing its Julia. A lot of people say her and George have slept together, at her instigation.

  26. D says:

I just don’t find them a cute couple. They also don’t look like they “go” together. It’s sounds like they were both ready to settle down and he was impressed by her education and background and her with the celebrity and wealth. Whatever. Doesn’t seem like some great love story.
There is something about her that rubs me the wrong way. I don’t find her attractive at all except her hair maybe. The only dress I liked was the striped one. It fit her well and evened out her body and a classic shape. But I just don’t see the attraction to her just because she went to good schools and has a career?? Millions of women do, and many go to top tier schools.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

      +1

    • Mary Mary says:

      D. That was my first impression too, until I saw Amal in an interview as a barrister discussing legal issues and noticed how she is both gracious, well mannered with a soft spoken intelligence. One does not have to be loud to get their well thought out intelligent point across and that was her. She was quite impressive. I have worked in an office with lawyers and though many I have met possess ,many traits of intelligence, quick wit, etc. I have never encountered anyone with enough charm, graciousness or the mannerisms, that would leave such an impression.

She had all the right traits, grace, class intelligence, knowledge and happened to be at a charity event in London? She charmed, and impressed Mr. Clooney, but I understand she was not as impressed with him on first meeting.

  27. LaurieH says:

I recently watched The Monuments Men (I highly recommend it) and the woman who sang “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – sent on a record to Bill Murray’s character – was amazing. A beautiful a capella rendition. It was a good choice for the movie and the wedding.

  28. jes_sayin says:

ok, i’ll say it….it feels fake… it’s like the way they interact- like they don’t even know each other (but hopefully I’m wrong?)

  29. A~ says:

So strange, all these people saying, “It’s fake.” Why fake it? She’s rich. He’s rich. He has his pick of roles. She has a job she loves. What could their motivation be? Really, seriously, I just don’t see why they would bother.

  30. Sara says:

I remember Georgie’s hissy fit over how the media hounded Princess Di to her death. The shamelessness and wastefulness boggles the mind.

  31. iseepinkelefants says:

Of course all of this is old Hollywood-esque. Georgie really loves that image. Methinks he fancies himself as Cary Grant reincarnate. Plus it’s a really good image to portray. People love that stuff. It reminds them of a better time and I’m sure it will help when he runs for office. Smart PR move. Even her outift choices these days are old Hollywood.

  32. Someonestolemyname says:
