Miles Teller on John Cusack: ‘I guess we look alike… but I don’t want his career’

125675PCN_Film63

Miles Teller is doing the promotional rounds to support Whiplash, the little indie movie with major buzz at many different film festivals. JK Simmons is pretty much guaranteed a Best Support Actor Oscar nomination (if not the actual award) for the film, and I’m sure the film will become one of Teller’s calling cards for casting agents for years to come. Miles is still recovering (sort of) from his W Magazine interview, where he basically said that doing Divergent was a business decision that he regretted. He tried to walk back some of those comments, but he’s basically reiterated them over and over, just using different words.

Anyway, Miles has a newish interview with the New York Times, which you can read here. I still find him enchanting, by the way. He’s different than most of the actors his age. He’s cocky and fratty, like the fortunate son who doesn’t know how to NOT win at life. But he owns that too – he’s not putting on a veneer of humility. He thinks he’s great and he’ll tell you how great he is. Some highlights:

He’s a different kind of actor: “I feel like a lot of actors of my generation are not proper actors. I want to break out of that whole group of actors in their early 20s and really start to put stuff down that lets you know I take this seriously.” He added that he wanted to earn a reputation “as an actor of their generation.”

Humble-bragging: “When this all started, my agent told me the feedback was always: ‘Good actor. Not right for the lead.’ They said, ‘Oh, he’s the funny friend.’ I mean, when I say, ‘When all this started’ — it’s like four years. I’m pretty hot now. I guess I was lacking sex appeal at the time. I don’t know if I found it. Maybe what I lack in abs I make up in — ” he arched an eyebrow — “weight?”

He’s not screwed up on a personal level: He’s never needed “acting as therapy…My parents are still together. I have two older sisters that love me.”

His scarred face: “I’m not super-vain. I was never going to be a model. But it was getting to the point where casting directors were like, ‘It doesn’t make sense for the character to have scars.’ ”

Comparisons to John Cusack: “I guess we look alike. We did some similar movies. He was a leading man that wasn’t traditionally good looking, who was offbeat and quirky but confident. I get it. But I don’t want his career.” Instead, he aspires to the paths taken by Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.

His criticism of Divergent: “I have never done a movie just for financial reasons,” he said, noting that “on paper,” he had wanted to work with the “Divergent” team. “When you’re on big-budget movies, just sitting in your trailer for a long time, you feel removed from the storytelling most of the time.”

He’s ready to play men, not boys: “‘Whiplash’ was great. But even then there’s an attachment to youth, the loss of innocence, all that stuff. And it’s time to play some grown men.”

[From The NY Times]

He’s all of 27 years old, an awkward stage for most male actors. Only the guys like Ryan Gosling manage to do interesting work at that stage and still play their real age (or older). I’ll admit, I always think Miles is younger too, because of the films he does. I would have had him pegged at 22-23. Anyway… I think the “shots fired” moment came with the John Cusack section. DUDE. You would be lucky to be considered the next John Cusack. We are sorely lacking “The Next John Cusack.” Cusack did some really interesting, wonderful work back in the day.

    Wow, what a bitch.

  2. Kiddo says:

He looks nothing like John Cusack. Maybe that was tongue in cheek/sarcasm?

  3. Kay says:

    Nice suit, creepy stache.

    • Petrichor says:

That was my first thought–lose the moustache! It’s so sparse it makes him look greasy. And he could lose the Bieber brow furrow while he’s at it!

  4. ray says:

Hes cute but I find his interviews pretty insufferable

    • Steph says:

+1. I also happen to be over him already. Anyone else with me?

      • claire says:

This is the first interview I’ve read and I’m over him already. He sounds like an arrogant little a-hole.

      • littlestar says:

This is the first time I’ve heard of this guy OR seen a picture of him. He has a complete look of arrogance on his face in all of the above pictures. Guy needs to take a seat because with an ego like that, his career can be over with before it even begins!

      • lehcar says:

I saw him in 21 and over and I had no idea who he was but I thought he was cute, he’s like Shailine though, good actor but a severe case of special snowflake syndrome.

  5. Lb says:

I like Miles Teller, but his comment on John Cusack’s career? Those are fighting words. I love John Cusack and somehow manage to watch anything he’s in, no matter how terrible. I even watched that hot tub movie (which actually was pretty good) because he was in it. He’s been working consistently for decades which is more than most actors can say.

Miles Teller should be so lucky. I think he suffers from foot in mouth syndrome.

    • J-G says:

I love John too! And he’s been in some rough movies — but he’s also been great in several.

I agree. Not a great comment on his part.

    • Tanguerita says:

I love him too. And right, Teller should be so lucky. At the age of 27 Cusack had “Say anything”, “Being John Malkovich”, “High fidelity” and a at least two real blockbusters under his belt. Teller should learn how to shut up, he isn’t talented enough to justify this kind of attitude, no one is.

      • minime says:

        @ Tanguerita
Oh well, but DiCaprio had already Titanic and the Beach, those masterpieces! (sarcasm) 😉
“Being John Malkovich” or “High Fidelity” are cult movies and Cusack is an amazing actor that doesn’t live from his connections with the directors or fandom appeal! This smug boy can only wish for the same.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I adore Cusack and I have no idea who this kid is, but I’m going to defend him a bit here:

Cusack and Gosling have had decidedly different acting careers. By the time Cusack was Gosling’s present age of 33, he had starred in Grosse Point Blank, Say Anything, One Crazy Summer, Stand By Me, and 16 Candles among the most critically-acclaimed of his movies, with a pile of stinkers in-between. Also, keep in mind that some of his best work was done when he was in his teens and twenties. Cusack was nominated for a Globe for High Fidelty, but I think he was 36 or so when that movie came out and I think he was 33 when Being John Malkovich was filmed.

On the other hand, Ryan Gosling at age 33 has made The Believer, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine, Lars and The Real Girl, Drive, The Place Beyond The Pines, The Ides of March, and has been nominated 4 times for a Golden Globe, and once for an Oscar. He’s also gotten to work with some of the most interesting directors out there.

They just have very different careers, with Gosling achieving a lot in his mid-twenties-to -mid-thirties. I mean, I can’t blame a 27-year-old kid for wanting to mimic Gosling’s career and churn out some great performances and have the opportunity to work with some amazing directors in the next ten years.

As an aside, Cusack was PHENOMENAL in The Paperboy. Truly brilliant.

Now excuse me while I go watch Say Anything, one of the best f*cking movies of all time.

      • Lola says:

If this kid (what’s his name again?) had explained it like you did, maybe the comments would have been different. Maybe he should hire you as his publicist. Because I did think, when I read it, who is this guy? and why is he trashing John C.?? I don’t think they look alike though.
Saw The Frozen Ground the other day, I liked the film, glad someone gave the story a voice to be seen.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah…haha…I sort of extrapolated a bit there. I know nothing about this dude except for what I read here and it seems he has a bit of a verbal diarrhea problem.

I think if he hadn’t mentioned Leo and Gosling, I would have taken it as straight-up shade, but as it were, I took it as him (poorly) describing what he wants to accomplish career-wise in the future.

      • perplexed says:

It seems like this guy wants DiCaprio’s career because Dicaprio fits (or fit) a certain template for leading man attractiveness, not because of the actual trajectory of his career. That’s what I gleaned from the “I’m hot now” comment (paraphrasing), which sounded weird. Maybe he was joking — I wasn’t sure, but it reads badly in print.

I can’t remember if John Cusack was ever considered “hot” or “attractive,” but I thought he did play some interesting leading man roles when he was young. That’s where his lack of desire to have John Cusack’s career struck me as a bit odd. Cusack doesn’t have an Oscar, but in some films I thought he was considered a lead of sorts which Ryan Gosling at least might have considered taking on at the time (For example, Say Anything which today would probably generate a boom-box meme).

I think Leo’s career, of course, is in a whole different stratosphere from any other actor’s box-office wise, and this guy would never be cast in Titanic. I’m pretty sure James Cameron was looking for, uh, someone “hot” to fill that role. And it worked out well for Dicaprio afterwards.

      • Esmom says:

TOK, I think you are probably right but he just didn’t know how to go about saying it in such a diplomatic way. The fact that he didn’t is what bugs me…I guess I like listening to actors who can charm you with their intelligence and humility…and this guy strikes me as possessing not much of any of those qualities.

      • Betty says:

@TOK I get your point, but he didn’t have to insult Cusack in the process. He could have said–“Some people think I look like John Cusack. I can see the resemblance.”–and left it at that. Then, he could have said something like, “I may not look like Gosling or DiCaprio, but I really admire their careers.” No need for the dig at Cusack. That would have been how someone with tact handled the situation. And as a girl from Cusack’s hometown of Evanston, Ill., I will always be Team Cusack.

      • Anne tommy says:

Perplexed, of course John was considered hot and attractive, and some of us think he still is.

      • Petrichor says:

Perplexed: I agree the “hot” comment is hard to gage in print. I still can’t figure out if he meant hot as in attractive, or hot as in “hot commodity.” Either way, JC is a whole lot hotter than MT.

And for pure cheese, Con Air is one of my favourite JC movies. Oh, and Serendipity.

    • If you are referring to Hot Tub a Time Machine, it is a classic in this house. Seriously, rent it.

  6. Div says:

I like him as an actor, but I’m sorry…any woman would get freaking crucified for the things he says. An actress says they eat or make a comment about not wearing makeup as much as other actresses (Shailene) and we rip into them and say they’re trashing other actresses…even if they really aren’t or it’s an overreaction. In this case, he is straight up criticizing other actors and there’s no way to misinterpret that.

    • Liz says:

      Just made the same point.

    • minime says:

I’m so over this actor and I was never even interested. He’s neither funny nor quirky and if a female actress would be this unprofessional there would be no space for second guesses or re-interpretations. He wants to be Leonardo DiCaprio? I guess that says all that needs to be said about him. Good luck with that.

      • hadlyB says:

Leo is a better actor than John but both are known douchey assholes so I guess he aspires to be a dick.

I have never found John a great actor and all the gossip about how he treats women is pretty bad. He is a bitter bitter betty no mistake.

      • Petrichor says:

HadlyB: Ack! I wish I hadn’t read this! I want to hold onto my rose-coloured impression of JC!

  7. Abbott says:

Miles Teller should consider himself lucky if he were ever be a part of a cinematic gem like Hot Tub Time Machine. Have a seat not-Ansel Elgort.

  8. laughing girl says:

Wow, he really really fancies himself, doesn’t he. Also: Kaiser, stop making him happen.

    • Godwina says:

All the agree on both counts.

    • Tanguerita says:

      +1.

    • mom2two says:

I’ve tried hard to like this guy since he is a local guy and admits to being a Phillies fan…but his comments lately match his face: douchey.
I hope if Whiplash gets any Oscar consideration, it’s for JK Simmons. Sorry to all the people who worked hard on Fantastic Four, but I hope it flops hard because this guy doesn’t need a bigger ego than what he already has.
He makes some of the most ungracious comments I’ve ever heard come out of an actor’s mouth. I know Cusack is no picnic as a person, but Miles Teller hasn’t even had a quarter of Cusack’s career yet.

  9. Anastasia says:

Not good-looking, have never heard of him, and the comments about Jon Cusack are just twatty,

    • shayne says:

Seriously!!! What rat hole did they dig this ferret out of????

    • ncboudicca says:

Everyone reading this blog today knows who John Cusack is, but I wonder what percentage of us know who the hell this douche is? I guarantee I won’t be able to remember his name tomorrow…

      • Jag says:

I only know him from this website. Cusack, on the other hand, used to be one of my favorite actors.

I hope that he doesn’t get the nomination or the award because this jerk needs to go away.

      • Tara says:

I thought he was a tv psychic.

  10. Rhiley says:

He looks like a Jonas Brother and not the lovely, intelligent, witty John Cusack.

    • Pepsi Presents...Coke says:

He may be witty and intelligent, but he’s slightly less lovely than pertussis. He’s gross.

    • I Choose Me says:

That’s who I thought he was too. I’m laughing because after reading all the comments I’m also seeing K.D. Lang and a young Rob Schneider. Not John Cusack, like at all.

  11. Miss M says:

He needs to shut up or have someone coaching him for interviews.

  12. Lilacflowers says:

Is Say Anything the only Cusack film he has seen? Sit him down and make him watch The Grifters, Ice Harvest, and High Fidelity.

  13. Jenns says:

I don’t care about this kid.

But I’m really happy to read that JK Simmons might get an Oscar nomination. I love him!

  14. Birdie says:

He looks like a skinny James Belushi.

  15. Liz says:

I just trying to imagine how much worse the internet reaction would be if it was an actress giving similar quotes, either way he sounds like he has a mighty fine opinion of himself and John Cusack ruled in Grosse Pointe Blank.

  16. Hautie says:

My biggest pet peeve about facial hair on men… if you only have 12 little sad hairs making up that mustache. Then you need to shave.

And Mr. Teller I am looking at that sad thing on your upper lip.

If Teller looks like anybody… it’s Justin Bieber with that ridiculous looking facial hair.

  17. Anname says:

I didn’t mind the Divergent stuff – a lot of actors will admit the big budget movies aren’t very fulfilling to make. But this John Cusack diss, and the quote “You know I’m pretty hot right now” – that’s really bad. Doesn’t he realize how awful that sounds? It will be interesting to see if he tries to backtrack from the Cusack quote.

  18. lower-case deb says:

i really love Hi Fidelity. whenever i need to be nostalgic. or when i’m ill in bed.
    and Being John Malkovich.

  19. jinni says:

He is a pompous jackass. Why is he throwing other actors under the bus? He hasn’t even proven to be a box office draw or a regular critical darling with the critics, so why is he acting like his sh*t doesn’t stink? He has been acting like old school Megan Fox and yet no one is dragging him. I am continually amazed at how much one can get away with simply because they have a penis. No wonder why the ancient use to use phallus shape amulets as charms to ward off evil and bring good luck.

    • lower-case deb says:

genuine question: i understand the fertility goddess amulets for the hard of conceiving (is this even the word?), but i never understand phallic amulets. bringing a literal club or machete wards of a lot of evil i understand, but amulets? is it to advertise “look, i’m a d*ck”, “look how big of a douche i am”?

      • jinni says:

I think the warding off evil has to do with the phallus representing manhood and sense men were traditionally the protectors, then it seems to go that having something that represents masculine power would protect the wearer from danger and/or evil.

      • lower-case deb says:

@jinni, thank you for the explanation! it’s very interesting. and you wouldn’t believe what i’ve been doing on search engines after this interesting tid bit 🙂
        thank you!

  20. greenmonster says:

Miles, you will be begging for guest appearances on some TV shows in the next couple of years and wish you had John Cusack’s career.

  21. Sara says:

haha its going to be so funny reading how he’ll try to backtrack on those comments.

in the last thread someone used the german word “backpfeifengesicht”, a face that should be slapped. he can no nothing about looking unfortunate but he has the personality and mindset to warrant backpfeifen.

    • Lauren says:

Ok w that face comment now I’m wishing he had been cast as Nick in Gone Girl instead if Ben Affleck! If he were the tiniest bit older he would’ve been perfect! Just bc I really want to slap his face.

That being said- he seems like a douche and can go away immediately.

      • noway says:

Aside from wanting to slap his face the Ben Affleck comment is interesting. I am not a big fan of Ben, but after Argo and Gone Girl I am with the Ben isn’t as bad as I thought crowd. Maybe this less good looking younger Ben Affleck, (I do see a slight resemblance) that would be his career later. You are not as bad as we thought.

      • mom2two says:

One thing to be said about Ben Affleck, I don’t ever remember Affleck ever crap talking another actor in an interview.

      • Anne tommy says:

Affleck also directed the excellent gone baby gone and the town, both so worth watching

  22. Godwina says:

Yeah, I’m sure Cusack would love Gosling and DiCaprio’s career too–so would any actor. IOW “I intend to make it to a higher strata than poor middling John Cusack.” Jesus, what an assholish remark. We’ll all be able to point and laugh when he winds up NOT beating those excruciating odds.

  23. shayne says:

He sounds like a major, Shia Labouf level douche bag.

  24. break says:

Some people really work overtime to make the rest of us wish ill on them.
This guy needs a humbling setback, ASAP.

  25. don't kill me i'm french says:

    Sit down,little boy!

  26. greenmonster says:

Quoting Jessica Chastain “I would have been a disaster. If I was 19 and I had the attention that I’m getting now, I would have just said stupid things.” I guess, fame (or some sort of) came to soon to Miles Teller. Or he is just stupid… and fame-hungry. He wants to be a special snowflake amongst all the other actors of a younger generation. Putting down so many other young actors who are not proper in his eyes? He is the one who takes all of this serious? Yeah, he is stupid.

    • perplexed says:

I think the fact that he’s 27 and talking like this shocks me a bit. If he were younger, I’d probably be more …”sympathetic”? But 27 seems kind of old to be this lacking in self-awareness. Or maybe I don’t remember actors like Julia Roberts in the 90s being this publicly conceited (sure, we know she’s big-headed in private at her current age, but in public when younger she seemed to appear reasonably level-headed).

      • Talie says:

He framed it like he’s still in his early 20’s… kind of weird. Yeah, at 27, he should be a bit more evolved.

  27. LonnieTinks says:

Every single time I see him, I think he is K.D. Lang

    • bns says:

      LOL I see it.

    • Tania says:

I completely agree. He has very feminine features (not masculine at all) and it gives the appearance of a woman dressed in drag. And he looks just like KD Lang. Except that KD Lang is a kind person and this guy is a total douche bag. I can’t believe what he says about John Cusack. Sit down boy.

  28. whatsmyname? says:

    Miles? Stfu and sit DOWN.

  29. Neelyo says:

‘The actor of his generation’? What is he, the male Lena Dunham?

He sounds like a typical 27 year old who only knows what he’s seen since he was five and nothing earlier than that exists. He probably only knows Cusack from CON AIR.

  30. Triple Cardinal says:

John Cusack has Oscar nominations under his belt. And a successful production company. And successful theater work. And starred in the seriously goofy Tapeheads. AND has Joan Cusack’s private number.

When this yutz can come up to all that, then he can diss John Cusack. But not before.

  31. shannon says:

bitch, please. produce something half as good as Say Anything and then MAYBE…but, nah, not even then. sit down.

    • Anname says:

Did you see they canceled the TV reboot of Say Anything? Cameron Crowe was against it, and combined with the Internet outrage, they decided not to do it.

      • shannon says:

saw it last night. promptly popped Say Anything into the DVD player and then I see this headline this morning. quite a coincidence!

  32. perplexed says:

If he’s being dead serious and not joking, I think he’s one of the most conceited actors in his age range. Any female actor would be criticized heavily for giving an interview like this. He makes K-Stew and Gwyneth Paltrow look humble.

    • shayne says:

“He makes K-Stew and Gwyneth Paltrow look humble”

Damn!!! Teller should know he’s a grade A moron when this statement is true.

  33. noway says:

This guy is a douche and stupid. If he really is the ACTOR he claims he should aspire to be so lucky to have John Cusack’s career. John Cusack has one of the most diverse careers of an actor, fair amount of smaller films with interesting rolls, but he has also played Nixon in the Butler, Edgar Allen Poe in the Raven, and then all the comedies and even a few large film like 2012, and he is always believable and sometimes so much so you forget it was him in the part. A true ACTOR.

I have only seen this guy in two pictures Divergent, and well it was better than the Twilight films but worse than Hunger Games and that is all I can say he was just there, and The Spectacular Now and he is no Lloyd Dobler. Haven’t’ seen Whiplash, but glad J.K. Simmons may get a nomination, because he is amazing. If he really wanted to emulate an acting career, his smart move would have been to say J.K. Simmons now there is an actor too.

Leo, Sean and Ryan all are good actors, but at some point they all have been considered leading men in movies or heartthrobs, (Yes even Penn if you are old enough to remember as he looks more than a bit rough now), and sorry I just don’t see the movie star quality in this guy, but that won’t last either so he would be better off with just actor anyway, and hiring a publicist who can school him on what not to say to sound like a pretentious goof ball.

  34. Tippy says:

    Pride cometh before the fall.

  35. elo says:

I don’t know who this kid is, but nobody, I mean nobody, talks about John Cusack like this.

  36. M.A.F. says:

He’s 27?! I thought he was in his early 20’s given the attitude I got from those short exerts.

  37. Dorky says:

I’ R never heard of this guy outside reading this site, but just having looked at his photos before, I thought, “That guy looks like an arrogant little prick with the same ugly face and attitude of Shia LaDouche.” And sure enough, now that I actually read an article about him…

  38. Talie says:

He should be lucky to have John Cusack’s longevity, for godsakes. I don’t find his attitude appealing at all.

  39. bns says:

What he said wasn’t that bad. If you compare John Cusack’s career to Leo, Ryan, and Sean it is very different

I actually like his candor in interviews. I’m sick of PR planted interviews. However, I do agree that if an actress said this she would be crucified, which is bullsh*t.

  40. Dani says:

Miles Teller is the guy from the huge frat you try to ignore during the day and only tolerate when you’re bored to death and need a party to go to go.

I’m sure John Cusack doesn’t want you to look like him or have his career, either. He’s much too successful and intelligent to be compared to Teller.

  41. ali says:

    Ugly , inside and out.

  42. Becca says:

I know people on here don’t particularly like Robert Pattinson, but here is a guy who could learn a thing or two about humility from him. Miles and Rob are virtually the same age and while Rob has said some tongue in cheek stuff about Twilight, he never bad mouths anyone. He’s working with great people and getting fantastic reviews, but doesn’t have a conceited bone in his body and frankly, has more reason to be a douche than Teller will probably ever have. Incidentally, Rob just worked with the wonderful John Cusack in Maps to the Stars.

    • Anname says:

      +1
I thought of this too but didn’t want to get branded a crazy Rob fan 🙂
He is an example of an actor who never bought into his own hype.

      • Becca says:

I don’t care about being branded a crazy Rob fan, lol 😉 He’s a great example of a young actor who has never bought into the hype. He’s grounded and grateful for the opportunities he has and there are very few others who’ve dealt with that level of fame as well as he has. People don’t give Rob enough credit for that IMO.

  43. Paige says:

    What a douche!

  44. Jayna says:

He’s not as good as even half a John Cusak. Go sit in a corner.

I hate arrogance when they haven’t backed it up yet. Just shut up and build a body of work. Where are the Liam Neesons of the younger actors, you know, that have some class and grace in interviews. When you are confident in your work, you don’t have to brag on yourself and try to diminish other actors.

  45. nicegirl says:

So dumb – he would be lucky to have Cusack’s career! idiotic

  46. Sarah says:

John Cusack is also a screenwriter I believe. And he isn’t famous for being famous. Paparazzi don’t stalk him. He’s got the right level of recognition. He’d be lucky to have his career. He’s made some wonderful films. And is still thriving.

  47. TheOriginalKitten says:

He’s like the new Shia LaBoeuf. He entertains me with his asinine comments and lack of filter.

    • FingerBinger says:

Me too. So many of these new actors and actresses want everyone to love them. I like that he’s kind of slagging off John Cusack.

    • I Choose Me says:

Or Shailene Woodley. Their comments tend to ramp on the snark on CB to a level that is sometimes popcorn worthy.

  48. birch says:

Isn’t 27a tad late in life to still be in your awkward stage? In any case the silly little fellow is not hot enough at the moment for me to be able to distinguish him from a can of soup.

  49. Ginger says:

I have no clue who this actor is but to take on John Cusack? You are correct…them’s fightin’ words! Go home boy.

  50. eowyn says:

Many seems to forget this guy nearly died and see his friends died in a car crash around his twenties. So of course, he is going to have a different outlook on life and less PR.
He doesn’t care, he is fully living his life.
And the comment about Cusack : Gosling and Dicaprio have pretty good and solid career too.

    • perplexed says:

Well, most of us don’t really know who he is. Therefore, most of us wouldn’t really know that he nearly died.

    • alex_r says:

What does living fully have anything to do with insulting others unwarranted?

    • Sara says:

living life to the fullest is different from craping all over other people who achieved way more.
living your life at the expense of others isnt a good thing, no matter who died.

  51. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

He looks like Haley Joel Osment. from the Sixth Sense.

  52. Reece says:

*sigh* Dude you are on your third chance in the battle for my good opinion.

  53. notlistening says:

Wut? He looks nothing like John Cusack. Dude, you wish.

  54. Slim Charles says:

He looks like Alexandra Hedison, Jodie Foster’s wife.

  55. Jamie says:

The real question is why wouldn’t he want John Cusack’s career? Cusack has had a pretty solid career featuring both indies and blockbusters. What exactly does this guy want?

  56. BadAssCompass says:

his frattitude was full on in his Divergent character, so I guess that’s what dude’s really like. Shia le Douche 2. And they both remind me of my smug ex, it’s the eybrow thing and spoiled puppy eyes. Though, I must say I thought he was interesting in Spectacular now, not a looker but had a presence and I thought he was like 20-ish!
As for Cusack, yeah, nobody can diss him.

  57. bokchoi says:

i have never heard of this idiot before this week

  58. smcollins says:

Looking at his smug face fills me with an incredible urge to want to punch him in it. And considering that John Cusak has been in the business for three decades he’d be lucky to have even a fraction of that career. Sit down and be quiet little boy.

    • Barristerette says:

His face is VERY punchable, isn’t it? Especially after the words that came out of it!

  59. Petrichor says:

“Enchanting” is not exactly the word I would choose to describe him.

  60. L says:

I’m trying to like him, but he’s making it hard. Everytime he opens his mouth, he just sounds like a dickweed.

  61. Brasileira says:

I hardly know anything about this guy yet, but, for the little I’ve seen…. he’s barely arrived is already sh*tting all over the place. Doesn’t seem like a very good start to me.

    Confident much?!

  62. Dommy dearest says:

Who is this guy? Was he a child actor on some show that I never heard of? Seriously.

  63. tara says:

He’s older than I thought. I would have put him around 23 years old. Can’t say I’m impressed with him, but he sure does have self confidence!

  64. Yoooooooooooo says:

Miles isn’t that great an actor – lucky to be in B movies 5 years from now.

    • perplexed says:

I saw him on Jimmy Fallon. His speaking voice was annoying to listen to. He won’t have Dicaprio’s or Gosling’s careers.

  65. Alarmjaguar says:

He wishes – both that he looked like Cusack and that he could have his career.

  66. Marla says:

He looks like a young Ralph Macchio to me.

    • perplexed says:

I think Ralph Macchio was better looking. So was John Cusack. Maybe this guy might be better looking than Rob Schneider.

  67. betha says:

I love the way this guy is getting himself to become well-known. Now all he has to do is deliver the acting goods and everyone will forget his arrogance.

  68. Barristerette says:

Like many of you have already said, he seriously needs to STFU and have a seat. He sounds ignorant. Who takes shots at John Cusack?! He should be so lucky.

  69. Josa says:

A honest douchebag is still a douchebag. This guy is insufferable and I don’t even know who he is and what movies he is in. Can’t imagine what he will be like when he gets famous.

  70. Marianne says:

What he needs is a really good publicist to teach him how to talk in public/conduct interviews. I like him, I do but he’s rubbing me the wrong way because he comes off as really disrespectful. He’s pretty new to the business so I’ll let it go for now.

  71. TedTheodoreLogan says:

I hope his career is short.

  72. Moi says:

I don’t even know who this person is, so I will TRY to be nice.

#1. He looks nothing like John Cusack.
#2. JC is beloved by many, and well respected within the industry, so this person needs to check himself, and sit the F down.
#3. I would never be an actor/actress, but if I were to be, I would prefer JC’s career over many others’ careers.

  73. tarheel says:

He isn’t worthy of cleaning John Cusak’s trenchcoat.

I only know this kid as the kid who was Ren’s BFF who couldn’t act in the remake of Footloose.

John Cusak wasn’t even 18 when he was in The Sure Thing.

  74. Trashaddict says:

    Who is this?????
Anyway, he looks like Peter Riegert when he was younger:

  75. Amy says:

He looks more like Joseph Gordon-Levitt to me than Jon Cusack.

  76. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

Kaiser said it best: “We are sorely missing the next John Cusack.”

    Amen.

  77. Chuck says:

Has anyone here seen the Paperboy? John Cusack will haunt your nightmares in that. I found him to be totally incendiary and magnetic and disgusting. The guy is a great actor. But in terms of his career, I understand Teller’s comments. He has some truly wonderful, defining films to his name, as well as some nice smaller films, but in terms of a career that is current, that has momentum, there’s not a lot going on there. He’s not on the level of Penn etc. That’s just not what he wants from his own career. I didn’t take it so much as a diss, he’s not saying anything negative about Cusack’s career, per say. Teller seems both aware and self aware. I don’t get why that’s so insulting and controversial. I dig his honesty about stuff, I wish he didn’t have to “back peddle”.

    • perplexed says:

Most actors aren’t on the level of Penn. But most actors aren’t on the level of Cusack either, though. There’s a tiny percentage of people who get to either level. Once you’re making money for people or the public takes a shine to you, you can probably control your destiny to some point, but up until that happens I don’t know if you can choose that easily how your career flows. That’s why this guy’s comments rub people the wrong way.

  78. TotallyBiased says:

    John Cusack == forever hot.
    Whatshisname — not.
Glad I gave Divergent a miss…would skip Whiplash too if not for JK.
Rob Schneider called. He wants his bitchface back.
Oh, and I strongly suspect John Cusack has exactly the career he wants.

  79. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

    Dear Miles,

First off – who the hell are you? Besides CB, I’ve neither seen nor heard of you. Secondly, I’m sorry to be rude, just following your lead, Miles – you resemble an old man from the neck up and a little kid from the neck down. I don’t necessarily find Cusack attractive, but he’s a billion times the heartthrob you’ll ever be.

Lastly, your attitude is atrocious. You haven’t even become a household name, and I already don’t like you.

Enjoy working at KMart or Taco Bell.

    ADM

  80. Blarg Smith says:

    He sounds like a d!ck.

  81. Caz says:

This kid is on par with Bieber & Shia. Teller who in 2 years.

  82. Lau says:

He’s a douche. And full of himself. It makes him so uninteresting. Maybe playing the role of Peter vom “Divergent” wasn’t really a hard one to play for him and more a resemblance of his true nature.

  83. St says:

He is 27? I thought he was 23 or something.

Oh God – he is not even famous but is already behaving like spoiled brat and is annoying . The more and more this guy gives interviews – the more and more it is obvious that he has huge ego. He did small indie movie that’s got good critic but already behaves like he is new Ryan Gosling or something.

He did not earn the level of fame to think like he does. He is c-listed actor that no one knows. You will ask ordinary people who is Miles Teller and they will say they don’t know. But he already thinks of himself like he is new coming, new Gosling or DiCaprio. I really hope that he will not get any nominations for that movie. Because that will feed his ego even more.

You know there are people like Ryan Godling , Cumberbatch or J.Lawrence who are talented, famous but humble and don’t scream: “I am so talented and popular”. And then there is Miles Teller who just screams in every interview: “I am so talented. I was too good for stupid popcorn movie like Divergent. I was wasting my huge talent in that. Please, I don’t want to have career like loser John Cusack. I know I’m destined for bigger fame and award potential like Gosling or DiCaprio”.

And its like: “Dude – forget it. You can star in indie movie sometimes and get good critic but you will never lead blockbuster movies. You are supporting actor. You are simply not as interesting for public as you think you are. A-list career will never happen”.

  84. Frodo lives says:

Is it me or does he kind of resemble a koala bear?
