Ryan Phillippe wants joint custody of his kids with Reese Witherspoon

It’s Friday, so it seems like everyone is breaking up and filing paperwork when it’s least likely to be noticed. Ryan Phillippe has filed for joint custody of his two children (it was said to be filed earlier in the week, and was just noticed today) with estranged wife Reese Witherspoon. He’s not asking for spousal support, though, he won’t really need it since they didn’t have a prenup and he’s entitled to half of Reese’s earnings during their seven and a half year marriage:

TMZ has obtained court documents, filed this week in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Phillippe wants to make a clean break from the marriage. He is not asking for spousal or child support. All he wants is joint custody of the two kids.

Witherspoon filed divorce papers last November, citing irreconcilable difference. She asked for joint custody, and also asked the judge to block any attempt on Phillippe’s part to get spousal support. Reese also wanted “exclusive use of the family residence.”

Reese filed for sole physical custody and joint legal custody with Ryan when she filed for divorce in November of last year. Reese and Ryan have two children, Deacon, three and a half, and Ava, 7. Ryan was photographed out with his kids at the park about a week ago, and it may have been a strategic move by him to get photographed with his children, but it still look kind of sweet and wistful to me.

So far Ryan and Reese have been amicable in what they’ve let the public know about their divorce, and I bet these two will continue to take the high road. If Ryan wants joint custody, Reese doesn’t seem like the type who would deny it to him just to spite him.
