‘Pregnant Princess’ Kate covers People, she’s back to ‘her smiling, bubbly self’

kate people

I think People Magazine will use literally any excuse to put Duchess Kate on their cover. That’s not on her and it’s not even on the official royal propagandists. Considering it was just yesterday when Kate made her first official public appearance since August, I guess People Mag’s editors spent all day yesterday finalizing this cover story. And for what? So we could hear the tale of how a white girl in crisis managed to find her “bubbly” again? I’m throwing shade at People, not Kate! It seems like this week would have been better for an Oscar de la Renta cover, or perhaps a larger story about Ebola.

Yes, Princess Kate makes pregnancy look stunning – and as easy as riding in a horse-drawn carriage. But at three months along, the expectant royal, 32 – who is due in April – is only now enjoying a smoother ride after her battle with hyperemesis gravidarum, or severe pregnancy sickness, kept her sidelined for the past six weeks.

Forced to cancel her first tour abroad in September, the princess has been slowly recovering, and at a recent gathering in her hometown of Bucklebury, she was eager to mingle with other guests.

“She was her smiling, bubbly self,” a guest tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “You would never have guessed she’s been ill.”

Still, a source at the palace says she continues to take things day by day.

“It is not right to say that she is absolutely fine,” cautions the source. “She is still feeling some of the effects of HG. But she is definitely recovering.”

Now that she’s starting to feel better, she and Prince William, 32, have been focusing on getting their new country home, Anmer Hall, ready for move-in – and preparing their firstborn, 15-month-old Prince George, for big brotherhood. The couple, says an insider, “are now consolidating life as a young family.”

[From People]

It’s crazy to me that renovations on Anmer Hall aren’t completed. The Queen moved out the long-time residents of Anmer more than a year ago and Will and Kate began the renovations almost immediately. I have serious doubts that the mansion needed THAT much work. And I think the past few months have been pretty weird for Will and Kate’s living arrangements – no one is really providing a straight answer as where they’ve been living, if they’ve been living separately, where William has been staying during his air-ambulance training, all of that.

Also: I see that people are complaining about Kate’s relatively inexpensive jewelry at last night’s event. I don’t know… I kind of like the necklace and matching earrings. She doesn’t have very interesting jewelry and she doesn’t know how to properly wear the bigger royal pieces, so this kind of jewelry is a happy-medium as far as I’m concerned.

I think she’s beautiful and goodoner for getting back out there, extreme morning sickness being awful and all, but I agree: that’s a story? I feel bad because when I think of her pregnant, I think of that poor nurse from the last pregnancy.

  2. Penelope says:

I love Kate’s trendy jewelry–it’s young and fresh without being trashy. Love her dress, too.

That People cover isn’t the most flattering shot of her, though.

    • Ciria says:

I love her trendy jewelry too but I can’t wait for her to bust out the royal jewels! Wish she would already!

Consolidating life as a young family?? When did Goop get a job writing at People?

  5. Abbott says:

I think the barfing Kate story is People prepping us for when George Clooney is named Sexiest Man Alive next week.

  6. Blythe says:

I’m very concerned over this Ebola outbreak. Another person with Ebola-like symptoms is being evaluated at University Hospital in Newark. WHO has stated that they’ve been mishandling the issue wrongly, too. I’m not paranoid yet, but I hate hearing things like this. I hope the two Texan nurses recover completely.

Go to Amazon and get yourself some magnesium cloride and Lugol’s formula for iodine (it’s a formula composed of iodine and potassium iodide and a few companies make it in both liquid and tablet form). Both iodine and mag chloride have anti-septic properties that boost immune health (especially iodine! But they compliment each other). Grab Brownstein’s book about iodine (Farrow’s is good but Brownstein is more precise) as well as Dean’s book about magnesium (Sircus has a few good books worth looking into as well). That way you, and everyone else, can get your body in prime working order so outbreaks are less threatening.

More people have married Kim Kardashian than died from Ebola. Ffs you’re fine.

      • mimif says:

Correction: More people in the US have pee peed on KK than have died from Ebola.

      • angelique says:

Ahhh…KimK. I love it when someone brings her into a conversation about Waity. I’ve seen all three Kardashian sisters wearing hi-lo dresses and they look pretty good. They can pull off a trend because they are trendy. They are supposed to be trendy because they are the Kardashians.

Waity tries to be trendy but she’s not. And that’s ok because royalty has to be cautious about following trends. Royals typically try to look classy and timeless. And that’s the problem. Waity likes to be trendy and probably fancies herself to be a trend setter but she is failing horribly. She really should look for someone to help her with her appearance AND behavior.

People expect royalty to be better than the average person. After all, who wants an ordinary king? Or a tacky princess.

I’m reminded of the early stages of the AIDS crisis. Lots of fear, lots of misinformation, lots of ‘ohmigod it’s in this country’. I know of a woman who got escorted off a plane at SeaTac because she threw up right before take-off. She was a nervous flyer, not sick, not running a fever, but they removed her–didn’t even let her walk back to speak with her husband–and then ‘decontaminated’ the restroom.

  7. MinnFinn says:

In the blue Packham dress (that IMHO is too short) she doesn’t look pregnant at all. Also, judging by her legs in the same photo (sans hosiery!) her HG doesn’t seem to have prevented working out. Those pins have definitely been to the gym on a regular basis during the past 12 weeks.

    • The Original Mia says:

Yep. She’s been working out. Her legs didn’t look like that at her last appearance. Far easier to work out at Mommy’s than under the watchful eyes of the Grey Men.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •MinnFinn•

I’ll concede that she might have missed a week or two — but not enough to lose muscle tone.

    • Elle says:

Kate might just be insanely dedicated (and let’s face it, knowing you’re going to be photographed and judged would be good motivation), but that doesn’t jive with the “so sick she couldn’t do anything for six weeks.” I’ve known women with regular morning sickness who had to stop working out during the first trimester.

    • notasugarhere says:

I concur, it looks like she’s been working out steadily, no 6 week break in that routine. Wasn’t the rumor at one point that she works out 4-5 hours a day and has for years?

    • Chammy says:

      @ MinnFinn:
Good thought on her working out. Hadn’t thought of that though I never believed the HG story.

      Also:
What about the fake tan? Doesn’t that smell horribly? Can a woman under HG stand such a smell?

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Chammy•

I’ve never gotten a fake tan but I can assure you that I could barely tolerate ANY smell while pregnant — severe morning sickness or not.

You brought this up before — how bad does a fake tan smell?!?

      • angelique says:

It smells a little like something is baking. And yeah something is baking…your skin!

BTW can pregnant women get a spray tan?

      • Chammy says:

Fake tan smells badly and somewhat chemically sour-ish and rather disgusting when applied. I have tried it once. *iuck* *neveragain*
You apply it. You let it soak in. Then you wash it off and you are bronzed.
And the worst thing is that even after washing it off it still smells a little bit. I can’t believe anybody affected by smells could stand it.

  8. Arya Martell says:

Nothing about Kate’s recent photos say smiling or bubbly. They say tired, cranky, ready to puke at a moment’s notice and annoyed that she has to deal with the world. I’m not judging either. I’d just prefer the palace they not try to sell us the story that she’s peachy and all is well.

  9. Bethany says:

Is anyone surprised at Kate’s recovery? That New York trip is on the horizon.

  10. Megan says:

After all the Oscar de la Renta dresses that have appeared on the pages of People, I am totally stunned that he is not on the cover.

  11. Sammi says:

Earth to People Magazine: She is NOT a princess, she is a duchess!

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Sammi•

She actually IS a princess but if you call her a princess it needs to be: HRH Princess William since she’s a princess via her marriage to William. Technically calling her Duchess Kate is also equally incorrect.

See my comment on titles on the other Kate post.

    • angelique says:

In GB, Kate could never be called Princess Kate because she is not a born princess, like Princess Anne or Princess Eugenie. Kate’s father would have to be Prince or a King for her to carry the title Princess Kate.
Even Diana, did not carry the title Princess Diana, even though most people and the press called her such. Her title was actually HRH Diana, Princess of Wales.

  12. Aurelia says:

    Kate’s “bubbly” personality??? WTF

  13. Hazel says:

I agree with all. The jewelry was OK–although it could barely be seen–but Kate just doesn’t know how to wear ‘important’ pieces & I think is clearly uncomfortable/intimidated by such jewelry, so she sticks with the safe & the similar. As for her dress/gown–very pretty when standing still & the slit is asymmetrical, like at the beginning of the evening–but somehow or other by the end of the evening that top skirt pulled completely over & made it a mullet. Actually, it ended up looking like all her other daytime dresses–short (the better to show off her legs), body-con (for obvious reasons), and plain. For me, I think it’s the color that saves the whole thing. I’m a sucker for that shade of blue.

  14. wow says:

Yeah, the press, especially the American press, going overboard with their reporting on Kate is partially what made me get sick if her in the begining. Until I realize it’s not Kate, but the press constant sucking up that was the real source of my annoyance. Especially with the wedding and pregnancy.

  15. Lorriemarie says:

I just don’t understand the fascination of this girl? She has done absolutely nothing spectacular with her life besides marrying Wills. She went to a great university and did nothing with her degree. And she has done less since she has been married. With as much publicity she gets, she should do something with it. That’s what Diana did. Yes, Katie has some charities but doesn’t do much with them. If people are going to fawn over royalty, go fawn over Princess Mary, Queen Letizia. And she does look very toned and pretty tan.
