Do you want to see Benedict Cumberbatch sashay like Beyonce? Yes!

wenn21808080

Benedict Cumberbatch was one of the guests on Friday night’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, along with Timothy Spall, Miranda Hart and Maroon 5. This is… his third trip to Norton’s couch. His first was to promote Star Trek Into Darkness, when he appeared with Chris Pine and Kim Cattrall. The second time he was late to the couch and he was with Harrison Ford (that’s referenced in these videos) and Jack Whitehall. Judging solely from the videos the BBC has released (I haven’t seen the whole episode yet), I think this was another good appearance for Bendy. He was “the star,” the first seat on the couch and he seemed relaxed and playful. No grumping, no bitching, nothing like that. To be fair, I think most of Graham Norton’s guests are half in the bag and Norton seems to encourage that.

Here’s Benedict photo-bombing his wax figure. Sexy. Standing next to his wax figure, you can really see how awful his current haircut is.

Here’s Benedict talking about Star Wars, Star Trek and that whole “peng-lings” debacle. I thought it was so cute that he was basically like “I had to call Disney and make sure I didn’t mess up saying ‘penguin’ during The Penguins of Madagascar.” Except the film is Dreamworks, just FYI.

This is the video everyone is talking about – Miranda Hart teaching Benedict how to sashay like Beyonce circa “Crazy In Love.” I don’t think Miranda has quite worked it out though, but Benedict picks it up quickly. Either that of Benedict practices walking like Beyonce at home. Which is entirely possible. Doesn’t everyone practice strutting like Beyonce at home, even posh English boys?

Basically, the whole thing is adorable and Benedict has guaranteed himself another invitation to appear on The GN Show. Which is good, because Norton is probably the best chat show, ever.

As was mentioned on the last thread, that is straight out of the Ministry of Silly Walks, lol. It’s nice to see him not be uberserious and he seems to really be cool with being on GNS (he was really not happy-looking when he was on Alan Carr a while back, iirc).

    • Tara says:

Graham Norton is a great host. Everyone always looks like they have fun!

      • MissMary says:

I used to avoid his show because I had the impression it was cringey but I got stuck watching it one night at a friend’s and ended up really enjoying it. It’s different than the American talk shows I’m used to, lol, but it’s fun and the folks on it seem to have a good time and not feel awkward or “on the spot”.

      • Tara says:

My absolute favorite bit was when he had Orlando Bloom on many years ago. And Graham read a little spat between two fangirls and one asked the other about Orlando’s favorite vegetable. The response was gold: “Eat sh*t, Jessica, it’s carrot!!”

I’m still laughing at that one. Lol.

And the Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Hugh Bonneville one is terrific. If you get 45 minutes, I recommend watching that one.

      • MissMary says:

I’d watch almost anything with Bill Murray, lol, so I’m going to have to find that one later when the kidlet is down for a nap! I loved the one w/Idris Elba taking the selfie for the girl to send her ex (I think it was her ex? Maybe it was just a hook up who was texting her?). I like seeing BC on his show because he seems a lot less “interview mode” than on other shows.

      • Miss M says:

He is incredible. I wish I could follow his show more often.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Tara, the Bill Murray/Matt Damon/Hugh Bonneville one was fantastic! Murray basically just reacted to Bonneville and his Top Gear debacle story (favorite wooly jumper & lipstick) and Damon’s obsessed Mark Wahlberg fan story while all three of them got smashed and drank out of Paloma Faith’s shoe.

      • Tara says:

I loved when Murray and Damon lost it when they showed Hugh’s Top Gear photo. “Why are you wearing lipstick on Top Gear?” Sooo funny.

      • sigh((s)) says:

GN is the best. The Bonneville one is great, but my favorite is still Will-I-Am and Miriam Margolyes. It’s hysterical

      • Etheldreda says:

I preferred Norton’s show when it was on Channel 4 way back. He was MUCH more outrageous and risque then, but has toned it down big time since moving to the BBC. On the plus side, he now gets A list international stars who probably would have been reluctant to be subjected to an interview dripping with sexual innuendo, as was usually the case back in the Channel 4 days.

      • icerose says:

@Etheldreda I agree, This is much more like a typical talk show and lacks any real bite.

  2. Maya Dragunova says:

    sexy!

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

The walk was so cute! I love that clip.

  4. InvaderTak says:

    Daw, Cumberhumour!

  5. lower-case deb says:

what is it about Graham Norton Show? most of the guests appearing on the Show comes across as having a jolly good time, and make great viewing. even guests that i hadn’t liked before suddenly appeared quite nice on the couch.

    may the show lasts forever.

    • Nic says:

It’s a great show. He’s a warm presenter who perfectly pitches a bit of gentle cheeky ribbing without being rude or catty and he let’s the guests talk. He also doesn’t go after any personal nonsense that would make the guests uncomfortable. He’s miles ahead of jonathan ross.

      • MissMary says:

Johnathan Ross, not Alan Carr! That’s who I meant earlier! He seemed so uncomfortable on Ross’s show!

    • Sullivan says:

      Hear, hear!

    • InvaderTak says:

It’s the wine. It has to be laced right?

    • genevieve says:

I think that backstage there are liberal applications of alcohol to the guests. Or so I have heard. 🙂

      • lower-case deb says:

        @Genevieve, Invadertak, haha!
i remember one time on CB, someone got so blind drunk on the show. can’t remember who, but it was cringey. but the most part, the spiking of the punch, worked!

      • Cel says:

Its true – Mark Wahlberg got smashed and it was all very cringe-inducing.

      • sigh((s)) says:

Norton still makes jokes about Wahlberg.

  6. GeeMoney says:

Anytime he gets to show off that wonderful personality of his, he shines so brightly as a person and as an actor.

And he is so charming and funny… I’m always completely baffled when people go off on a negative tear about him. He’s the best!

    • Nic says:

The penguin thing was off the charts cute. I love the fact he’s shifted the blame to the producers for not realising he couldn’t say it. Lol

    • MissMary says:

I always wonder where the “oh, he’s too uptight to take a silly/comedic/whatever” comes from. All people have to do is listen to Cabin Pressure or see him on this show or some of the outtakes from other shows he’s filmed and that man has no problem being a goofball.

Re the penguins thing: LOL I wonder if they just didn’t tell him it sounded odd or if it was a”Well, maybe it’s a public school accent?” thing.

      • Green Girl says:

I think it comes from people who have only seen him in the Super Serious Historical Stuff, and that people have a hard time separating the actor from the character. But yes to Cabin Pressure! I would also add Starter for 10 and maybe even Fortysomething. He isn’t off-the-charts goofy, but it was kind of funny for me to see him in a sitcom after only having seen him in the historical stuff. He also gets a bit goofy in Sherlock.

      • MissMary says:

Oh, definitely Starter for Ten! I saw that ages ago before I knew about Sherlock and when I realized it was the same actor, I was in denial for like a day, lol. “No, there’s no way… maybe it’s a common name in the UK? REALLY? Same guy?” lol.

      • Nic says:

He was brilliant in starter for ten. Him and mcavoy made the movie.

Did you have any luck finding the tumblr/twitter thing we were talking about on the other thread @missmary?

      • Green Girl says:

LOL MissMary. Yeah, it really is too bad he’s doing so many serious works right now.

      • MissMary says:

@Nic: one of my old tumblr “friends” is going to dig through her HD when she gets off work–she thinks she remembers saving the screen caps!

      • Nic says:

        @mm

Tbh, if it materialises I’ll be VERY surprised. I think it’s crossed wires or some weird fanfic or something.

      • MissMary says:

NGL–she just sent it to me (her screen cap of the convo) and I’m side-eyeing it now. I was never “OMG PROOF” about it, just “huh, pressed fans, nice” but it looks skeevy now that you’ve been talking to me about it, lol.

      • Tippet says:

There’s a lot of goofballery in what he does as Sherlock, too.

      • Felice says:

        Ooooh enlighten…

  7. Stacie says:

I just love Graham Norton. The end.

  8. Intro Outro says:

    Another day… Another Cumberbatch-Attending-Another-Event p.pp..PYAAWN post…

    • Kazlock 1307 says:

      Intro Outro
Why?What as he been to this weekend?
Not seen any mention of being out and about since GN recording on Thursday

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

According to EB..BC was seen in Brighton today

      • MissMary says:

IntroOutro means another day, another post about him being somewhere, not necessarily that the “sighting” was today.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        Ah!!Got it!Thanks.
Spotted in Brighton. The ‘was he with a tall, slim brunette’ are starting.

      • MissMary says:

If it makes you feel better, there’s a pic out of the woman he WAS with at the Flaunt party–his niece, Emily.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        Thanks MissMary lol xx
        Anything in Brighton ‘ sighting’?

      • MissMary says:

Not that I’ve read but I’m not doing any twitter or tumbling… I’m figuring there’s filming there this week.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

Hollow Crown starts filming at Haddon Hall in Bakewell,Derbyshire. From tomorrow until November 10th

        Beautiful part of the country.

      • MissMary says:

Mini-vacay I guess, lol. He’d mentioned having family there in the past but IDK anything other than him saying they’d go visit in summer when he was a kid so who knows if he still does. Oh, well. I’m betting he’s off to Derbyshire by now.

      • Encumbered says:

Oh, filming at Haddon Hall. Gorgeous! I envy him this….

        http://www.haddonhall.co.uk/

I am quite convinced seeing him as Richard III will quite undo me. Can’t go to London for Hamlet which is just as well. I could embarrass myself in a live audience. :/

      • gg says:

Aww, Encumbered, I am going to see him in Hamlet and if I can keep my fangirling inside (and I can, dammit) then anybody can!

    • Anne tommy says:

Soooo much Benny here recently. The site is more like cumberbitchy. But I appreciate he’s been on telly and has the waxwork etc etc so it has to be covered and it’s nice for all the fans so I won’t throw shade ( love that phrase…it and douchebag are my new favourites…)

      • Intro Outro says:

@Anne tommy, cumberbitchy! 😀 And yep, I was expecting this and I’m sure the cumberseason will persist through Nov, Dec, Jan AND most of Feb at the very least, but I’m getting slightly cumberjaded 😉

    • icerose says:

@Intro Outro and two posts on the same show?Graham is a great host but I wish he would looses the fan stuff which he does not seem to do as much with other guests. On the plus side Spall was amazing and I have an offer to get tickets for McAvoy who is appearing on stage again in the Ruling Class in the Ne year before they go on public sale.

      • sigh((s)) says:

I’m so jealous. Why can’t he do that in the summer when I can plan a trip? You’re killing me, McAvoy.

      • Intro Outro says:

@icerose, I’m really jealous!! From what I read, his Macbeth did not exactly receive unanimous praise from theatre critics, and I hope The Ruling Class will rectify it. It seems to me that TRC has more potential for him.

      • icerose says:

His Macbeth sold out. I only saw a few good reviews but I did not do a search, It is was very violent. He is back with the same director. The publicity has been very low key and I new nothing about it until I got the email.

      • icerose says:

So it seems he is now in talks for Strange which will mean a several picture deal. I thought with a potential Oscar nomination he would be holding out for some decent lead roles but I guessing the money must be very attractive.

      • Isadora says:

Tickets to see McAvoy? Take them!!! Ugh, I’m jealous. 😉

  9. KMS1017 says:

What time of day does the graham norton show film? I know in the US, they film late night talk shows in the morning or mid afternoon.

  10. Sea Dragon says:

I love his suit. It’s shiny and we’ll tailored.

  11. OhDear says:

Confession: I think the haircut looks nice on him.

    /runs away

    • MissMary says:

NGL he looks so much younger–if you look at pics of him from Amazing Grace and To The Ends of the Earth, this haircut makes him look about that age again (well, not like on the nose but it makes him look like “that guy” again).

    • GeeMoney says:

I like short haircut, too… don’t feel bad.
      🙂

    • Green Girl says:

You’re not alone! I think he looks younger, too, and a bit more refreshed.

    • M.A.F. says:

I like this hair as well.

  12. allons-y alonso says:

I love Graham Norton and I love Cumberbatch! It’s win-win for me. I will say though my favourite guest episodes on GN are: James McAvoy/Liza Minelli/ Jack Dee and Ewan McGregor/ Chris O’Dowd.

For those who think The Batch is ‘too posh’ and not able to do funny, watch ‘Starter for 10’. He’s hysterical. I saw it way before Sherlock came along and was really surprised to see it was the same actor.

  13. Catkin says:

Hi I’m finally taking the plunge as I’ve been lurking on here for quite awhile… and luv this generally lighthearted an friendly site! The GNS show last Fri was gt and had me lol on the sofa – I like GN’s non-offensive all gd fun style and warm personality. Luv BC and his short hair!! Gd to see him have some fun as well as promote TIG and thought he and MH were fab together, also enjoyed TS input – a bit quieter but came across as a nice down to earth guy. Lkg forward to seeing BC in Frankenstein this week and in TIG in Nov – what a talented actor with a gt personality.

    • allons-y alonso says:

I’ve seen Cumberbatch play the Creature. He’s excellent! I really want to see the alternate role as well with Lee-Miller as the Creature to satisfy my curiosity and see how different the play becomes.

      • Eva says:

I am the same, really keen to see the roles reversed! I have seen Cumberbatch in that role and thought he was brilliant but my mum has seen both and says JLM just edges it, says he is more tragic as the Creature. Ah what a great production that was.

      • Intro Outro says:

I have seen BC as Frankenstein and JLM as Creature and I agree with your mum, @Eva 🙂

Personally, I absolutely loved BC and JLM, their performances were brilliant, their conflict sparkled, and the ending was amazingly done, but overall I did not really like the production =/ Other members of the cast were all but wooden imo, their roles pretty heavily underwritten. I also thought that stylistically, the production was incoherent, like it tried to combine too many things visually just for the sake of impressing the audience. The production only worked for me when Creature and Victor interacted; the rest left me lukewarm at best.

      • icerose says:

        @Intro outro
I though the production visuals carried the production and made it something out of the ordinary, Both JLM and Benny were great but having see in back to back with the roles reversed my preference was for JLM interpretation of both character but only by a millimetre which surprised me as I had not rated him as an actor before. But yes to their interaction.

      • An says:

I thought they were close as the Creature, with JLM just edging it, I guess (it’s hard, they play the Creature differently and I got what Benedict was going for). For me, JLM was easily below as the Doctor. It was like he didn’t connect with the part, at least at the time it was recorded, but he’s also hit or miss for me most of the time.

Both were leagues above the supporting cast, unfortunately.

      • Nic says:

The supporting cast in Frankenstein were awful. Am dram level.

      • icerose says:

@An I think it was so close that it was hard to call and part of it comes down to acting style. But I am guessing if the Olivier panel failed to decide on one over the other it will always be about your personnel favourite,. Several people I know said Cumberbatche’s doctor felt like a re cycled Sherlock and soon we will get Dr Strange RE cycled AS Sherlock.I thank the heavens I am nota comic book fan,

  14. Kazlock 1307 says:

EB just had a post from an anon all about this site.from someone who used to post on here.basically saying that they pretended to have a source for info, but it was pulled ‘ out if their arse’!

    • MissMary says:

Meh, let ’em flail. They have their corner of the internet and are having fun in it, let ’em. (And so what? If they are so sad they need to make up gossip and sources, maybe they have more problems than being annoyed about an actor’s life.)

      • Encumbered says:

That is someone needing: (1) to find a way to feel self-important; and, (2) a good therapist.

    • InvaderTak says:

You mean there’s liars on the internet?? No way! lol That’s how I feel about most gossip “insiders” now that the web exists.

      • MissMary says:

But…wait…you mean it’s not true that Elvis eloped with Bigfoot to Dollywood? I read it online!

  15. Kazlock 1307 says:

    Question for you lovely people.
Anyone who is on Twitter in particular. Last week someone tweeted that they had seen BC with a mystery woman in the street.Did they then confirm, recently, that it was SH?
Same with the Brighton tweet yesterday. Confirmation he was with SH?
An EB poster as submitted that they’ve both been positively ID as SH.
    Don’t remember either being mentioned.

    • Nic says:

Nope. Random woman said ‘oh probably’ to seeing her in the street and she hadn’t even seen a pic so v unlikely to know who she was and no, thankfully knows anything about who he was with or where he was this weekend. As usual, no pics or conf at all but people weave their own story in their weird heads. Why go on EB anyway? It’s full of delusional nutters talking utter crap.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        @Nic.Thanks
Not really sure why to be honest.Spend half my time shaking my head at it!
I was told that someone in Brighton had served him over the weekend. No one else was mentioned. But then EB post said today that SH was seen with him!
Same with last Thursday’s tweet. The ‘ mystery’ woman in the street. They said the girl who saw them wasn’t up to date on his dating, but had since confirmed it was SH.
I know the original tweet was deleted. She posted any more since?

    • Linz says:

      @Kazlock.

More EB crap? The woman who claimed she saw Benedict with a “mystery woman,” deleted and re-posted that Tweet 3 times. Why delete and re-post it 3 times? A couple of sock puppet accounts drilled her for info. One person asked her if it was SH. She responded 2 days later. She never confirmed that it was SH. She just said “You hit the nail on the head.” She also said something like she isn’t one of the young kids, who is up to date with stuff going on in Benedict’s life. People were poking holes in her story. The first time she posted the Tweet, was when Benedict was on the GN show. So he was in two places at once? When someone pointed that out, she claims she was sure it was him, because she lives near him?

She has deleted the Tweet again. This is why I take most sightings with a grain of salt.

Brighton Tweet? Are you talking about the girl who said she served him? She didn’t say if he was with someone or not. People are asking her if he was. But she hasn’t responded.

STOP believing stuff that you read on EB..

      • Nic says:

Linz, did you say you had a screenshot of all the deleted and reposted tweets?

      • Linz says:

        @Nic.

“Did you say you had a screenshot of all the deleted and reposted Tweets?” It was one Tweet deleted and re-posted 3 different times. And she deleted it again.

The screenshots aren’t important, because she deleted the Tweet again.

      • MissMary says:

I thought a twitter-er name Senorita (Seynorita?) had said on more than one occasion she “tips off tabs” and she was the one most people suspected of the sock puppet accts since they are always “omg mystery woman” and support her “tips”? I’m getting that second and third hand from my SO and some tumblr folks so maybe that’s not the whole story.

Long and short of it, someone is trying to stir the pot, so to speak, and get some support for their fanfic-level theory on his love life.

      • Nic says:

Senoyrita is flat out nuts. Every day there’s a new blog of hers I’m having to block, it’s just the weirdest thing ever. I’m racking my brains what she’s getting out of this. It’s so so so weird.

      • MissMary says:

Maybe she just craves the attention? I doubt she’s getting any monetary or material return from her “tips”. Does she want to be “the one” to break a huge story about a celeb? Or maybe she’s just…I don’t know. Delusional, think BC owes her something somehow?

      • gg says:

he was seen in Brighton just a few weeks ago with Adam Ackland (someone took a sneaky pic, unfortunately) so if he was there and he was with someone, it was probably him

    • Sam says:

EB is full of loons that twist everything around and harass people to give them a version to fit their agenda.

      • MissMary says:

This. And, sadly, it gets “picked up” by tabs like the Fail and Mirror thanks to “anonymous sources” and it becomes a huge rumor/”omg, see? I told you!” situation.

  16. Marcy says:

    DR. STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First the Elle UK stuff, now this. It must be Benedict Cumberbatch day…

    • Kazlock 1307 says:

Has he definatly been confirmed? Or still speculation?
Don’t see how he’ll fit it in,release date is reportedly July 2016.Tight,with hit other commitments

      • Marcy says:

Just saw it on Huffington Post “in final negotiations”…

      • MissMary says:

It’s pretty much confirmed. Unless they say he can’t do Sherlock or something, you can bet he’s signed on the bottom line. They’ll probably move the date around, or he’s already dropped a project but it hasn’t been announced.

      • Josa says:

Dr. Strange hit cinema in July 2016. They have to shoot it Spring 2015 latest. If he signed on to Strange, he will need to drop anything that is scheduled for Feb to Jun next year. My guess is he dropped LCoZ.

      • MissMary says:

LCoZ seemed kind of iffy anyway, as did/does Yellow Bird. It’s possible those got moved, or they’re moving Strange to a later release…

    • Marcy says:

Uh, Miss Mary…no Sherlock? Please say you’re kidding. I can’t ever imagine him walking away from that, I mean eventually, but he just said he wanted to do it for a while. The world would implode no? That’s the reason for all of this other stuff (much of it…)

      Ok, my world would implode.

      • Nic says:

I actually wouldn’t care if sherlock ended. Last series was decidedly meh and I want to see him do other stuff.

      • MissMary says:

No, I was just saying that unless that was Marvel’s stipulation, you can bet he’s signed the Dr Strange paperwork. I was eh about the last season–I don’t like how Moffat writes women in any of his shows and while I think fan service is awesome i theory this felt too fan servicey and rushed. I hope S4 is not as…lumpy.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

Will Marvel let him do other projects?Or is that it?Is he their bitch now?
Seems an odd career move for him to make at this point.

      • Nic says:

They certainly can’t stop him taking other roles but a major lead marvel role will definitely diminish the time he has to do other things.

      • MissMary says:

Oh yeah, they’d let him do other projects. I think I can grok why he chose it–big name recognition and probably headlining a major summer release.

      • Marcy says:

Actually I agree S3 was meh, but I have high hopes for S4 (why I trust Moffat/Gatiss I don’t know why…) I’d like to think they’ve learned their lessons from S3 (oh gosh, but they did get Emmys) any-hoo, I just trust it will be better this go around. I was actually hoping for a S5 and then the end. I have read that Martin likes things to end, he probably isn’t as game as Benedict is to have it go on and on…

I told my Marvel-crazy friend about this news and he was “meh”. He said he thought Keanu Reeves would have been a slightly better choice…

        I guess we will see.

      • gg says:

Did I imagine it, or did I read somewhere that Sherlock would definitely be five series only, then one offs after that? Could swear I read it somewhere but now I can’t find a source.

      • Marcy says:

That sounds like a good plan @gg

      • MissMary says:

No, they didn’t set a cap on the number of series for Sherlock–esp as it’s such a hit for the Beeb and internationally now, and with the leads saying they’d do it as long as they could function. But the showrunners did say they weren’t going to make longer series (still three eps each) or “movies” (two plus hours).

      • Intro Outro says:

Being signed on to a Marvel franchise not only means 4-5 months of filming, but also additional time for reshoots and a month or two for promotional work. It’s a demanding employment.

      • MissMary says:

So it’s definitely some job security if they decide to do more with Strange than just one movie. I hate to think he’ll stop doing “smaller films” but I really see them coming farther apart now.

Wonder if he’ll carry on with Sunny March and his other works.Theatre and voice work

I am sure he will-Sunny March is such a passion project, and the theatre is a major part of his life. I’d be surprised if he shot it the double eagle and said “Ha ha suckers, I’m in a franchise now! I’m never going back!”

I honestly didn’t think benedict was going to be dr strange. That being said, I’m super excited, love the marvel universe and will be amazing to have benedict apart of it. I just hope this means benedict and tom will work together again.
