Tom Hiddleston is coming back to Marvel’s warm nerd-embrace, thank God

wenn20784319

In all honesty, I don’t really care that much about comic book movies. (Stage whisper: I never even watched Iron Man 3.) So it’s kind of funny that I get to write about some of this stuff. So, Marvel gave every geek a nerdgasm yesterday when they announced a huge slate of projects for the next four years or so. This is, I believe, all of Marvel’s Phase 2 and Phase 3 stuff. Or… something. Here’s what I learned:

*There will finally be a major black hero when Marvel introduces Black Panther, also known as T’Challa, “the head of the fictional African nation of Wakanda.” Black Panther will be played by one of my favorite newish actors, Chadwick Boseman. I’ve been hoping that Boseman gets some major projects and stepping into the Marvel world is BIG. Good job, Boseman! Black Panther will be out November 2017.

*Doctor Strange is still scheduled for a November 2016 release, but Benedict Cumberbatch’s casting was not confirmed.

*Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be out May 2018, and Part 2 will be out May 2019. Captain Marvelthe first major female superhero – will get a stand-alone film out July 2018.

*But the biggest news for the Dragonflies is about their king, Dragonfly Lord Tom Hiddleston. Marvel announced that Thor: Ragnarok will have a release date of July 28, 2017. Kevin Fiege confirmed that Hiddles would definitely return as Loki for the film. Fiege also confirmed that Thor: Ragnarok would be set immediately after The Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is what the film might entail, courtesy of Cinema Blend:

The Ragnarok storyline is one Thor fans have been begging to see on screen in this particular universe. For those unfamiliar with their Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the prophesized apocalyptic battle that is foretold to result in the complete destruction of Asgard, Thor’s home. It is written that it is Loki who is destined to bring about these end times, and Thor – being both a hero and the God of Mischief’s brother – is responsible for stopping these events from occurring.

When we last left Loki in Thor: The Dark World, he was certainly in a position to do quite a bit of damage. Taking the form of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), he sat on the throne he wanted ever since he was a child and was able to get Thor to leave Asgard behind to be with his beloved Jane Foster on Earth. Presumably the end of The Avengers: Age of Ultron will feature Thor realizing exactly what his brother has done and return to an Asgard that has spent a great deal of time under Loki’s boot.

The title Thor: Ragnarok is definitely a significant one, and Kevin Feige promised that it will have an effect on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as big as what Captain America: The Winter Soldier was able to pull off.

Praise our Dragonfly Lord and Savior. MOAR DANCING!!! I’m actually thrilled beyond belief that we have more Hiddleston/Marvel stuff to look forward to in the years to come. YAY!!!!

    • 'P'enny says:

I’m wearing my worshipping gown and kneeling to Tomster as I write. I take thee pudding and prepare to pass the pudding to Icerose, Intro, Isadora and others…

      • Lilacflowers says:

We just don’t get enough pudding lately.

      • Intro Outro says:

It’s been an incredibly boring autumn day and yep, I’m so ready for a pudding or two! Wouldn’t mind a Glühwein or two, either 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

Or a Guinness. What do they eat and drink in Asgard?

      • 'P'enny says:

        Mead.. yuk

      • Isadora says:

        Yay! Pudding! And Glühwein! 🙂

      • TotallyBiased says:

FINALLY!!! I’ve been SO pudding deprived. Hey, you guys upthread–don’t Bogart the pudding. 😀

      • Intro Outro says:

@TotallyBiased, I read it as “don’t Boggart the pudding” and for a moment my thoughts were flailing around because surely you can “Dobby a pudding” but Boggart it?? 😀 😀 And mind you, I still haven’t touched my Glühwein!

      • TotallyBiased says:

Gluhwein for EVERYONE! Celebration time! Wait, what are we? Oh, right! Dragonfly King’s return to CB. Yay! (And Innie Outie–you totally made me spit up my gluhwein. Alcohol abuse!)

      • Isadora says:

@Intro: You still haven’t touched your Glühwein? I’m already slightly tipsy!

Boggart a pudding!! *rofl* Well.. maybe if you are intensly afraid of pudding. Puddingphobia. 😀

      • Intro Outro says:

@Isadora: I already have! Waiting for the family to settle down to sleep so that I could get thoroughly drunk… I mean, thoroughly enjoy myself properly! 😉

As for a Boggart pudding – well, imagine you’re on a severe diet and doing your best to wipe the very concept of sweets out of your plane of existence and suddenly you stumble into a Boggart…

      • 'P'enny says:

        where’s mine gone? ‘slap’

    • Lilacflowers says:

@TotallyBiased, what sort of pudding would you like?

      • TotallyBiased says:

        @Lilacflowers
You have to ask? TomPudding of course! (Too much? Too soon?)

      • icerose says:

spotted dick of course and having downed my tipple and a large slice of spotted dick with custard I shall invite all the boys in the Bugatti Veyron to join us in an evening of dance and foot stomping and a Hiddles size conga singing ey, ey, yippee, yippee, ey.

      • Lilacflowers says:

How happy thoughts of gluhwein, pudding, and the Dragonfly King make us all!

      • 'P'enny says:

i want high -rise pudding with a non-fatty centre, lean and tasty. And naked, no dressing for me. i’m on a diet, maybe a dribble of cream. :-p

  2. sigh((s)) says:

    Woo hoo! Good morning Dragonflies!

  3. Lilacflowers says:

And happy for Chadwick Boseman too!

    • OhDear says:

      YES! He deserves more attention.

(I like Hiddles and all, but am sad that Boseman wasn’t the one in the headline for this post. The fact that they’re making a Black Panther movie is HUGE.)

    • Allegra says:

I don´t know why, but in this pic he looks like Chiwetel Ejiofor.

    • taylor says:

Yay! I’m super excited for him AND that they’re making this movie. I might actually pay to see it. Otherwise, I’m with Kaiser, comic book movies are fun, but I don’t really care enough to pay to see them–free from the library works just as well for me.

  4. Anna says:

Did anyone else see all the racists losing their sh*t over Black Panther being made?! It was ridiculous and also kind of funny, they thought that since Black Panther was being made “KKK-Man” would be next LOL I’m personally so excited for this movie, I hope it does really well.

I’m kind of disappointed about the Doctor Strange casting decision, Benedict looks nothing like the comic book character so I’m hoping they find someone else because there’s many POC actors who could play the role and I would rather them not cast white actors again in roles that were for POC (ex. Scarlett Witch and Quiksilver).

and Kaiser you aren’t missing out on anything by not seeing Iron Man 3. That series of movies was the worst IMO.

    • Freebunny says:

      Strange is a white character.
Good for them if they cast a black man or a latino to play Strange, but a white guy playing a white guy isn’t whitewashing…

    • V4Real says:

First I want to say Boseman should be the header in this post. People pretty much knew that Hiddles would be back in Thor 3. I was hoping they would choose Boseme and so did a lot of others. I think Marvel was listening this time.

I agree that Cumby isn’t the best pick for Strange. He might look strange but he doesn’t fit the character.

As for IM IMO it was the best out of all the series as a whole. Some people just didn’t understand what Black was trying to convey in IM3 and it’s a shame. Also without the success of IM we probably wouldn’t have all these other fantastic Marvel movies.

      • Intro Outro says:

@V4Real: I thought CB would report the Marvel special event but would do it rather as a recap of the news on all films that were announced instead of singling out Hiddleston. I just want to point out that recently quite a number of people have voiced their concern about whether or not Loki will make an appearance yet again, plus Marvel hasn’t said anything on the topic for quite some time, so Hiddleston’s return as Loki wasn’t quite set in stone for many viewers.

      • V4Real says:

@Intro Which group of people were concern? If you visit Thor and Avengers IMDb pages you would know that those hardcore fans on there had no worries if Loki would return. First clue, The ending of The Dark World where he was disguised as his father. Second clue, we knew there would be a Thor 3. That’s been declared some time ago.

      • Intro Outro says:

@V4Real: “hardcore fans” are the keyword here 😉 Those who do not follow MCU news that closely and are not into such details – a number of posters here on CB and also on Hiddleston’s IMDb board – were worried.

      • Marty says:

@V4Real- Right? I really didn’t think his returning would be news. Chris H. confirmed it at SDCC, not to mention Tom is such a big draw to the franshise.

      • V4Real says:

@Intro Most people on C/B who are Hiddles” fans had a feeling he would return. Still not seeing where a lot of people were concerned about his return, not even on his IMDb page. People don’t have to be hardcore fans to assume by the way The Dark World ended that he would be back. Also like Marty said Hemsworth said so at comic com.

For those in favor of Oded, I’m right there with you. He would be awesome for Strange.

      • icerose says:

I the news re the Black Panther is great as is the news re Captain Marvel but it is hard to get excited over super heroes you have yet to see. I am still trying to get excited about Iron man and Captain America
It was just great to get a date and the confirmation of the title. In Norse mythology Thor kills Loki and destroys his hammer but Feige has already indicated they have plans for Thor who in the comics is rebuilt by Stark.
Loki has in the past won his battles against Dr Strange but was saved by Thor. Mind you there IS wonderful thread on one of the comic pages where the fan boys are at logger heads as to who has the more powerful magic. I just hope they bring in Gandalf to referee,
Maybe Marvel had a secondary motive in casting Benedict.

      • Intro Outro says:

@V4Real: I don’t understand what you’re arguing with me about. I saw people voicing their concerns here, on IMDB and on Twitter about if and when Loki will be making his return. Some actually suggested that if Thor 3 is pushed back too far, Hemsworth and Hiddleston might be too old to retake the roles and might even be recast. During SDCC Hemsworth also said that Thor 3 wouldn’t be happening for quite some time, for example. The fact that most people had a feeling Hiddleston’s Loki would return doesn’t negate the fact that others might have been worried – which the OP alluded to in the opening post.

    • Lindy79 says:

Why was no one screaming about whitewashing when Pheonix, Hardy, Hawke et al were being mentioned?
It just seems a bit Cumberbatch-centric as a result of Khan.

      • Freebunny says:

“Cause BC looks like a lizardman and we want an attractive actor to fantasize about. “

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’ve been voicing my support for Oded Fehr all along.

      • Lindy79 says:

I can actually see that as a great choice Lilac.

I didn’t mean voicing support, more like the ones who are screaming that it’s Hollywood whitewashing like the original character is proven to be a POC which I don’t think is the case (someone feel free to correct me on that though).
They had a case with Khan but not so much with this one, it’s more that they just don’t like Cumberbatch in the role, which is fair enough but whitewashing it isn’t.

      • Shantal says:

People have actually complained about those other guys. Maybe not here specifically, but I have seen comments elsewhere (ONTD, Tumblr) about Phoenix, etc. not being good choices for the role. Many people have suggested Oded Fehr and Pedro Pascal.

      • ncboudicca says:

oooo, Oded Fehr. Where has he been lately?

      • Dara says:

oooo also to Oded Fehr. I know nothing about Dr. Strange but maybe Oded is aging out of the role (like a fine wine)? Honestly, he’s the only reason I tune in to Covert Affairs – he’s not a series regular, but every episode he is in makes up for the 4 or 5 he’s nowhere to be seen.

  5. Abbott says:

Still holding an internet prayer vigil (complete with voodoo priestess) for Jake G’s Dr. Strange prospects.

    • Kali says:

I only just heard about this today. I know it could get me torched around here but I would be far more interested to see him as Dr Strange than Cumberbatch. I’m hoping there’s a possibility of it happening as it seems to be in the Marvel vein of slightly unexpected yet intriguing casting.

      • DahliaDee says:

Count me firmly in the Oded Fehr for Doctor Strange camp as well. But on the subject of Jake G, it seems the man turned into quite the thespian while no one was looking. He’s made riveting choices in the past few years, but he’s still got the stigma of Prince of Persia attached to his name as far as wide audiences are concerned.

      • sigh((s)) says:

I’ve always liked Jake G. He’s quite underrated. Thankfully i never saw PoP, so he is not tainted for me.

    • Kali says:

      I didn’t mind “Prince of Persia”….

      *runs away quickly*

  6. Mia V. says:

The first major female superhero was Miss Fury. And let’s face it, Loki is way more interesting than Thor.

    • Leah says:

Oh my god, yes. Loki is fascinating that smug, sexy a-hole. He isn’t someone I’d want in my life long term (although he’d be fun for a little while) but so much fun to watch!

    • GeeMoney says:

Loki/HIddleston was the best thing about Thor: The Dark World.

Yeah, he’s more interesting as a character… but I’m still waaaay interested in seeing Chris Hemsworth’s abs in future movies…. 🙂

      • LadySlippers says:

        •GeeMoney•

Good Lord. I ❤️Your comments but often because you say what I’m thinking! I’ll drink Chris’ body…. (And normally blond men ain’t my thang)

      • Marty says:

Come to the dark side ladies. I’ll be waiting w/ welcoming drinks!

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Marty•

        Yes.

And in the shadows you’ll shank us. I totally know Eve gave you her knives!!!!

        *eyes Marty cautiously*

      • Marty says:

What is this “shank” you speak of. I’m sure I’ve never heard of such a thing! *walks away whistling*

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Marty•

Your ‘Innocent Babe in the Woods’ act doesn’t fool me a bit!

*keeps eyes AND ears peeled for Marty’s stealthy approach*

        Hmmmm, I need more backup.

*wakes up roots and –most importantly — the entire Garden to be on watch*

        •GeeMoney•

Do NOT trust Marty. At all. Especially when it concerns Chris…She’s claimed him as her CB hubby (although she does post some of the yummiest pics of him out there *drools*).

      • sigh((s)) says:

I’m not normally a muscles girl, but he is quite the fine specimen, isn’t he?

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Marty, and that second gif from Rush is after he slimmed down so he could fit in the race cars. He is a fine looking man but physically, really not my type. But I think he has a great sense of humor too and a genuine warmth and grace about him. i think it would be fun to hang out in a bar with him. Or on the beach. Or anywhere.

    • Irene says:

“Loki is way more interesting than Thor.”

Not to me. Maybe I’d find him more interesting if he actually embraced his evilness, but watching him sulk around whining about how daddy didn’t love him enough and every horrible thing he’s done is his brother’s fault is supremely boring.

Thor on the other hand, he grew up and became a good man. That’s interesting.

It’s so funny how split people are re: Thor vs Loki.

      • 'P'enny says:

I wouldn’t call the scene in Thor 1 boring, where he goes, ‘I’m the monster that parents tell their children about at night…After all these years you could have told me.”

The daddy issues are what motivates loki as a character and has produced the best scenes in the Marvel movies, yet. And, the fact he is torn is what stops him being all out evil. If he was a complete psychopath like the Joker it would be too much.

I am hoping they make Thor more interesting in thor3, they have too, Loki is right in his assessment, he is a witless oaf. :-p

      • Irene says:

        @’P’enny

“I wouldn’t call the scene in Thor 1 boring, where he goes, ‘I’m the monster that parents tell their children about at night…After all these years you could have told me.””

I don’t even remember that scene. So. I guess I would call it boring?

“And, the fact he is torn is what stops him being all out evil.”

I have never seen a single bit of evidence that Loki is ‘torn’. Loki wants what he wants, which is attention and power. Loki does whatever he wants to get those things, including killing innocent people, and even his own family. I’ve never seen him torn.

And really? The best scenes in Marvel are Loki scenes? Really? Not any of the many scenes with Tony Stark being a hilarious, bad mfer? Not any of the heartbreaking scenes from The Winter Soldier, or the amazing fight sequences? Not any of the fun and funny scenes from Guardians of the Galaxy? It’s all about Loki? Okay.

I’ve never seen any evidence that Thor is a witless oaf. He’s a nice guy, that doesn’t make him stupid.

      • Intro Outro says:

@Irene, have you actually watched The Dark World? Loki clearly loves his adoptive mother, and tells Kurse where he has to go in order to reach the royal chambers, and then completely breaks down after he finds out that Kurse ended up killing Frigga. He would love nothing more than to see Odin thrown from the throne of Asgard – and agrees to help Thor in defeating Malekith who could potentially overthrow Odin because he wants to avenge Frigga. He is clearly madly jealous of Thor – and yet he pushes Jane out of the way when Kurse throws that energy ball thing at them and nearly dies because of that. If THAT is not “torn” – then please explain what “torn” is.

      • Irene says:

        @Intro Outro

I’ve seen The Dark World several times, thank you.

I don’t think ‘torn’ is what Loki is. Making selfish, murderous decisions and then getting upset when things don’t work out the way you want isn’t ‘torn’. If he were torn, he would have doubts about his actions, ‘torn’ indicates that he’s struggling with his choices. He only struggles when things don’t go his way, and even then, his struggles involve him accusing everyone else of being the ones to mess up.

I don’t personally think he agreed to help Thor with Malekith to avenge Frigga, I think he was more concerned with getting an opportunity to escape from prison, but his motivation is certainly up for personal interpretation.

Saving Jane was one of the few things Loki has done in these movies that wasn’t 90% selfish, tbh, and I was actually proud of him. But then he turned around and faked his death, killed a guard, went back to Asgard, and at the very least is holding his father prisoner somewhere while he impersonates him, more likely he killed him though. Loki being willing to save Jane is admirable, but it doesn’t negate all the horrible things he does, and doesn’t mean he’s ‘torn’. It may just mean he actually did like her, like he said. Or it may even just mean that he wanted his brother to think a little less poorly of him when he was ‘dead’.

Look, I like Loki, as much as I like a lot of the other secondary characters. But I’m not going to pretend he isn’t an awful person.

      • 'P'enny says:

“I’ve never seen any evidence that Thor is a witless oaf”

have you seen any of the thor films? his banishment to Earth was because he made a witless and stupid move that could have caused a war.

i don’t remember any heart-breaking scenes in Winter solider, just a good looking guy with black smokey eyes not saying a word through the entire film and a very badly CGI old Hayley. That sad, i enjoyed Cap2 more than i thought i would.

      • Camil says:

Thor prefers a woman who barely knows over his mother’s death. Yeah, he grew up a lot xD.

To be honest I find Thor as selfish as Loki.

      • Irene says:

        @’P’enny

HIs banishment to Earth was because he made a stupid move, yes. And then he grew up. It’s kind of the point of the whole movie.

And I’m not here to insist that you find The Winter Soldier heartbreaking, of course. I just don’t have a hard favorite character like you do, so I’m able to appreciate the other movies as well.

        @Camil

What does that mean? He hardly had time to mourn his mother in the movie, there was an alien race attacking his home and an infinity stone possessing his girlfriend and the impending destruction of the universe, but I don’t remember him choosing Jane over his mother’s death, whatever that means. I DO think that Thor’s emotions were truncated in that movie in general. He barely had much reaction to Frigga or Loki dying. There should have been more focus on his emotional reaction to those events.

And I maintain, since Thor has grown out of his ‘frat-boy destroying other realms for fun’ phase, he’s a hell of a lot less selfish than Loki ‘engineers genocides because daddy liked his brother better’ Laufyson.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Loki not only saved Jane, he saved Thor too. Thor was losing to Kursed when Loki killed him.

      • Intro Outro says:

@Irene, I though it would whittle down to whether Loki is worthy of being whitewashed or not lol. That’s *not* what I personally mean when I say he’s torn or internally conflicted. No way am I trying to whitewash him or show him as a victim. But would you say that Loki is as integral a villain as, I don’t know, Ronan or Thanos?

      • Irene says:

        @Intro Outro

Well, I don’t know if Loki is comparable to Ronan or Thanos. I’d say he’s more on the level of Nebula, except he’s had more screentime devoted to him, and Nebula has more of an excuse to be a psychopath. But they’ve both got personal, familial ties to lead characters, and have chosen to work against them for their own self-serving reasons.

Although… I suppose if you look at Loki as a villain in the Avengers, and ignore Thor’s connection to him… then to the other Avengers, I suppose Loki’s on a Ronan/Thanos level? Because to the rest of the Avengers, Loki’s really just the psychotic alien who wants to take over the world.

I don’t know. He’s definitely closer to a Nebula-level villain than Ronan-level at this point. And I feel like I missed the point of your question completely. Oh well.

      • Intro Outro says:

@Irene, just FYI – I am talking only about films, I have never read the comics. To me, Ronan and Thanos are, so to say, integrally evil – all their actions have the same moral vector. Nothing they do in the films is dictated by compassion or love. Loki’s emotions and actions run the whole gamut and encompass opposites – from love and courage to hatred and betrayal. I maintain that this by definition makes him an internally conflicted and torn character. Maybe we just have to agree to disagree on the concept of being “torn”.

      • Isadora says:

I think a lot of people like Loki because the way he acts is always open to interpretation. There are not many definite things about his character, maybe only that he loved Frigga and that he wants a throne. Everything else is shady.

Does he hate Thor? Yes, he tries to kill him repeatedly. Does he still love Thor (somewhere in his dark heart)? Possibly, he saves him from Kurse, he saves Jane, and in the scene on the ship in TDW where Thor says “[Frigga] wouldn’t want us to fight.” and he answers “Well, she wouldn’t exactly be surprised” you can see on his face something like a nostalgia about the boys and brothers they once were. Or in Avengers, when Thor wants Loki to stop the madness and he says rather subdued: “It’s too late. It’s too late to stop it.” and Thor: “No. We can, together.” You can definitely see more in Loki’s face than hate, there is also pain. It’s because Thor appeals to something inside Loki that he doesn’t want – a heart, if you will, or a good side or even just a remembrance of things as they were. And he says as much when he stabs Thor and exclaims scornfully: “Sentiment!” Personally I think these are the moments where Hiddleston excels as an actor because he brings something to a character who could be otherwise a very usual evil villain.

But back to the ambivalence. We’ve seen the films now and know how it went, but I bet a lot of people weren’t so sure the first time if Loki just plays a role for Malakith with his “Loki from Jotunheim” and “watch Asgard burn” stuff or if he really means it and is in the middle of betraying Thor. And if he really cut off his brother’s hand. Or why he saves Jane. Because he likes her? Because he likes Thor? Or because Jane can make Thor stay away from Asgard when he pretends to be Odin? Then why does he, only moments earlier, try to make Thor realise that he will outlive Jane by several thousand years and is in for a heartbreak? Even – as you said – the reason why he’s out of prison is shady. It could be to avenge Frigga, it could be because he plans to break free. Personally I’m sure it’s both.

So in the end I think the mere fact that we CAN discuss such things about a character like Loki proves that he is indeed interesting.

      • Camil says:

        @Irene

If we could speak Spanish, I would give you a complete and extensive essay about my thoughts on Thor xD because I usually pay attention on sibling relationships, not only in movies, in books and anime too. My favourite anime, Saint Seiya, is full of sibling issues (and I love it)

But I will try to explain my ideas at least a little.

I don’t believe he grew up as the movie try to show us because the script or the editing process didn’t allow it. I don’t buy his “weekend on earth” conversion. That is my perspective, of course.

I think he is selfish for many reasons but I don’t consider that as a character flaw. In fact, every character must have a good and bad side.

“Loki ‘engineers genocides because daddy liked his brother better’ Laufyson.”

Thor left behind his home (a destroyed home) and his people to follow a woman (yeah, he says he wants to protect the earth-universe but, come on, he does it for Jane). He took Jane to Asgard and a lot of people died for it, including his mother. He doesn’t have time to mourn Frigga’s death but he can be jealous over a random guy on Earth.

To me both princes are selfish. Loki is aware of it and doesn’t care meanwhile Thor isn’t.

But again, it’s only the way I analyze the characters.

        See you xD

the relationship between Thor /loki was by far the most interesting dynamics in the Marvel Universe for me and I also prefer villains who walk the line but my biggest criticism of Avengers one was that the film never embraced his power or his use of magic. I think they only started to address this in Thor 2 but hopefully Thor 3 will continue this process, Having said that Loki has always been more than a one dimensional black and white villain, He plays on both sides and use words and charms well as magic to achieve hi ends.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Can we all agree that Odin was a horrible father to both sons? Also, the ethics and morals of comic Norse god rulers are different than ours. Thor, Odin, and Loki all point that out in all three movies; Thor even concedes that Loki understands the difficult choices a ruler must make better than he does. Apart from that, the Thor franchise has something for everyone with Chris H, Tom, Stellan, Idris, Zack Levi, Chris O’Dowd, and, in TDW, Chris Evans.

      • Anne tommy says:

Great series of posts, particularly enjoyed Isadora’s. I think that Lokimania is partly down to the ambiguity and intelligence of the character as played by Tom, as well as down to the whole tall dark and Hiddley part of the equation.

    • Marty says:

      Sorry, wrong placement.

  7. M.A.F. says:

Doesn’t this also mark the end of Hiddles involvement in the Marvel movies?

    • Lilacflowers says:

He has two or three more on his contract (not sure if he had a five or six film deal) and this would be one of them.

      • Intro Outro says:

I think someone said some time ago that the Marvel contracts should be limited in time. For example, 6 films over the course of 10 years. If the time frame isn’t met – then the actor is free from any further obligations even if the stipulated number of films was not produced. I wonder if it is true.

      • Lilacflowers says:

It might be. But they’re splitting Avengers 3 into two films, which is one more beyond Hemsworth’s contract and goes beyond the 10 year limit for him. They may have worked out a deal with them for extensions.

      • 'P'enny says:

its no coincidence that they are introducing new characters into Avengers 3 – if all the contracts are due to expire. :-p Kevin knows what he’s doing.

      • Abby_J says:

It should be, even with the other movies on the deal. After all, according to my dear husband, Thor rips his head off.

Now, these guys all seem to come back to life after their deaths, but I HIGHLY doubt there will be a Thor 4, and even if there is, with the movies going out this far, Our beloved Hiddles and Chris Hemsworth will be playing Loki and Thor from the nursing home. 🙂

I support Loki getting a major death scene and Disney plugging him in on some other movies. 🙂

    • 'P'enny says:

no no no no no and no :-p

    • M.A.F. says:

Kids, I’m going off the story line of Loki in the comics (or at least of what I know) and what I’ve read in other places.

Marvel can buy out his contract. Plus, he has the Skull Island movie.

      • sigh((s)) says:

I forgot about Skull Island. When is that supposed to be shooting/coming out?

      • Lilacflowers says:

@sigh((s)) the release date is for November 2016. No filming dates yet.

      • 'P'enny says:

its going into production in next March – someone found a good site on IMBD with a link to it.

      • Camil says:

Yes, November 4… Doctor Strange movie will be released the same day

      • Intro Outro says:

@Camil, if Legendary know what’s good for them, they ought to move SI lol.

      • sigh((s)) says:

I foresee epic celebitchy battles if BC is, in fact, Dr. Strange.
Loving battles, of course, with lots of side eye and snark. 🙂
Do you think they’ll change the release date of SI now that Marvel has announced their release dates?

      • Isadora says:

No idea, but it would be prudent. I guess they don’t really want to fight the Marvel money machine. Or if the release date stays, then they are supremely confident that Skull Island will be something to behold. Wow.

      • icerose says:

@P’enny I wonder if that gives him time to do Richard 11 ot the LE Carre series

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, it definitely allows him time to do Joanna Hogg’s “Renovation” in which Joanna’s tax accountant in his acting debut finishes painting a wall green. We watch the paint dry for an hour. Mary Roscoe arrives, chatting into a phone about “the children” while looking at the painted wall. Shakes her head, then leaves. More staring at the wall for the audience. Joanna’s accountant, posing as painter reappears, this time with Tom, who, after much apologizing, tells him the colour just won’t do and could he try again, with more blue tones than yellow? End shot of wall being painted again. London newspaper critics go mad for this masterpiece of film.

      • icerose says:

@Lilacflowers Yes but Tom will be painting naked and occasionally wipes the green from his very very very slowly rising erection. This will give that extra arty factor and insure that the film gets maximum publicity. Tom can then explain as part of his Oscar campaign how he spent several years studying house painters to insure he had the right stance and the right amount of paint on the brush to allow for the odd drip whilst letting it slip that he and the painter enjoyed more than painting.
Hogg immediately plans a sequel on Tom’s journey into his sexuality in which he has long discourses ( in bed) about homosexuality, heterosexuality ,bi sexuality, asexuality and celibacy which is so boring and profound that he immediately wins the Cannes best actor award followed by an Oscar and bafta .At which point he retires to make hats and write country and western songs with Rodney, They call their band Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and the The Hillbilly ghosts.
At this point I have to apologise to Hogg, Spall,Daniel Day Lewis and Mike Leigh because I am a fan of all their work.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, we should send her our ideas. She won’t need much more than this since she doesn’t work with scripts.

      • Isadora says:

Lilacflowers and icerose! *lmao* This is all kinds of perfect!!

      • icerose says:

@sigh if Loki was in the first Strange film it would be even more interesting.

      • icerose says:

@Isadora I have the script imprinted on my brain now.Tom wanders around an old rambling house completing a variety of everyday tasks in various states of undress with the voice over discourses on sexuality providing the only text within the film apart from two one side phone calls from past lovers played by Russel Tovey and TILDA Swinton . It culminates in a shower scene where Edward (Tom) collapses with indecision. The door bell rings and it fades out to a scene where his mum arrives with pudding.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, is that the aforementioned boggart pudding? My patronus is a jaguar.

      • icerose says:

@lilac flowers not on your time turner the boggart pudding would produce far to much excitement in a Hogg film. The pudding however might contain might a substance that would calm both Edward and a cougar

    • icerose says:

well listening to Feige waffle about what Ragnarok I think they may see it differently. In the comics both Thor and Loki return in different forms. They talk about Loki having an ethereal form at first At one point he takes the body of Sif to have some fun with Thor.

  8. Mia4S says:

I’m coming over to your side @Kaiser. I did care about comic book movies, but now I’m numb to it. Between this and DC that’s like 40 movies in the next 5 years with roughly the same structure and feel, carefully corporate controlled with no attempt to be anything other than very very suitable and swell. A brief thrill like a great roller coaster but nothing that sticks with you. The year Iron Man and Dark Knight came out was exciting. One film that threw back to great old time fun, the other that proved the genre could be challenging and extraordinary. God I am now so so bored!

    • Sixer says:

Me too. Boring films. And, going by the rash of new superhero shows, they’re invading TV as well now. Most annoying.

      • Allegra says:

        Same here.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Couldn’t agree more. I feel over saturated and manipulated.

      • icerose says:

I have to agree with you – I am strictly a Loki girl and leave the rest of the comic world the millions of fans.I only feel saturated when the internet conspires to insure all sources are overloaded with the superhero news,I think with all the viewing tools to day you can pretty much avoid watching anything which does not appeal.
I am currently working through Cillian Murphy’s past work. Did you know he is in the next Wheatley film with LukeEvans.
Sixer the all female Henry IV was brilliant .At one point I just stopped myself from shouting out words of encouragement to Hal.I loved it’s ingenuity and energy.

  9. Lilacflowers says:

I hope they do a much better job with editing on Thor 3 and not leave the best parts on the cutting room floor, as they did with Thor 1 and Thor 2. The family dynamic is the best part of the Thor story line.

    • koko says:

I’m probably alone on this but I wouldn’t mind a story leaving Jane, Darcy and Eric out. But that’s just me.

      • allons-y alonso says:

No, you’re not alone on that one. Jane is somewhat useful. Darcy is an annoying and unwelcome ‘comic relief’ and Eric is…meh.

      • Abby_J says:

Ugh. No Darcy. Jane can stay home as well. I kind of love Eric. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

Stellan has explained that Eric’s role in the Marvel universe is to present scientific exposition, so he is in Age of Ultron too. I want Darcy to go to Asgard so Sif and Loki can kill her together.

      • Camil says:

        @Lilacflowers

Please! We need to get rid of Darcy and her boyfriend xD. I want Thor to fight in other realms, not just the earth. Guardians of the Galaxy proved nobody cares the earth u.u

      • Abby_J says:

        @Lilacflowers,

I like the way you think. Sounds like a perfect way to get rid of her.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@AbbyJ, after working together to dispatch Darcy to Hel, Sif and Loki fall into a passionate embrace, releasing years of pent-up emotions. They then conspire to end Jane Foster’s grip on Thor.

      • Abby_J says:

Then she leaves Loki for Thor, causing the brotherly love/hate relationship to continue? Or a threesome? Yikes. 🙂

  10. 'P'enny says:

There has been so many click-bait articles this year about Thor3 claiming that it is a strong possibility that Loki will have his head ripped off or whatever. Not going to happen, [probably :-p] except as a trick. The latest attempts, last night, to stir up this crazy idea that thor is now a cyborg. I don’t even think that Chris Yost has put pen to paper yet! Although he is getting very excited on twitter.

One thing that did come out of yesterday’s presentation is that Thor3 takes up directly after Avengers 2 and ‘directly’ as in straight away’ as in no gap, as in possibly a Loki cameo? as whispered. And, that Thor 3 will be a game changer as Cap 2 was. I am hoping for a hardening of the script and little less stupid humour – and I take hope that he didn’t say Natalie Portman returning. His focus was just Tom and Chris [Chris and Tom] Which I hope finally means that Tom has got his respect as being the no2 to the importance of the Thor and not third to Natalie anymore.

I am expecting Loki to be ‘big’ in Thor 3 and I expect him to be Avengers 3, pt 1 because whatever happens he is sitting on the infinity gauntlet.

and, finally I really don’t care about the rest of the marvel films… ooops sorry Kevin.

oooh and Skull Island and Cap Strange are now scheduled to hit the cinemas at the same time . I expect Legendary will back down… but

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’m feeling more sure there’s a cameo in Avengers 2. One site had a dialogue scene released between Capt. America and Tony Stark about Thor leaving suddenly because Scarlett Witch showed him an image of something on Asgard. Maybe we’ll see the image in the film. And he was home briefly while they were still filming and the wig in the makeup trailer and Ruffalo’s “see you soon” tweets.

      • 'P'enny says:

I sort of imagine that Thor is left for dead on the wastelands and he can’t bear to see his brother suffer – I think there is a line in a comic somewhere where Loki goes to Queen kornilla, ‘no one messes with my brother, except me.” I can see it flushing loki out. but i’m a softy.

      • Abby_J says:

I think there will be a scene, but it will be one of the beloved end credit scenes.

    • M.A.F. says:

My take on Thor and Jane was that when we see him in the Avengers, he and Jane are no longer together. They need to get rid of Earth, Jane, and Darcy and just focus on Thor in outer space.

    • icerose says:

apparently in the comics there is more than one Ragnarok story so we really do not know which one Marvel will pick up on

  11. Intro Outro says:

I’m particularly happy about the release date since this leaves at least a year and a half for Hiddleston to do other non-Marvel film projects. He’s got 3 films coming out next year and at the very least one film (Skull Island) to be shot next year. I am crossing my fingers for The Night Manager, too, and a couple of other projects that will hopefully be as varied as what he’s doing now.

  12. Artimis says:

And STILL no Black Widow or Hawkeye movie. I’m especially pissed at no Black Widow movie – they;re making Captain Marvel instead which I think is snub to BW – after all she’s the most established female character so why not pay respects and give her the lead she deserves?

OH MY GOD I’VE GONE FULL GEEK!! Someone help meeeeeeeeeeee 😛

    • Mia4S says:

Black Widow movie is never going to happen. Scarlett won’t drop her quote for a mere comic book movie and Marvel is cheap as hell. Maybe in five years after a recast.

      • Kali says:

^^^ This. Captain Marvel is an awesome choice for the first female “lead” movie as she’s got a a fairly big arc with how she got her powers (although it sounds like Marvel isn’t doing “origin” movies anymore) and she can be based in both earth and space so she has the potential to be a good “bridge” character between the different areas of the Marvel movie universe so far. Plus she’s an extraordinarily cool character who can regularly take on the boys and win 😉

      • Isadora says:

That’s right. Sclarett just made Lucy a box office success with 434 mill. $, I don’t doubt that she would drive a hard bargain for a Black Widow movie and Marvel doesn’t want a second RDJ.

      • jammypants says:

I think Marvel does want a second RDJ, just without the huge pricetag.

    • Abby_J says:

I am with you on no Black Widow movie. There needs to be one. Although, if I am being honest, it is mainly because I know there will be a lot of Hawkeye in it and I REALLY want to know what happened in Budapest!

  13. GeeMoney says:

Yay for Chadwick Boseman… and yay for Captain Marvel being a woman! Whoo-hoo!

And can you imagine if Cumby is Doctor Strange and he and Hiddleston meet up in the Marvel Universe? I can see the Internet/fandom meltdown in my mind right now…

  14. Kali says:

This was my reaction all day to the Marvel Mic drop of an announcement (plus anytime you can bring up Archer, you should):

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pusZXECS0mM

    – FINALLY BLACK PANTHER! About time. I did have hopes for David Oyelowo but Chadwick Boseman is phenomenal, the MCU is lucky to have him.
    – The embarrassingly twee fangirl inside is sad we’re not going to get “Budapest: Spy Shenanigans” (Hawkeye/Black Widow) but the ballet shots in the “Age of Ultron” trailer mean we’re likely to be getting some solid Black Widow backstory.
    – CAPTAIN MARVEL!! CAPTAIN MARVEL!! CAPTAIN MARVEL!! Katee Sackhoff or go away. I will brook no arguments 😉

More longtime comic readers – I’ve just finished “Infinity War” and am trying to figure out where they would put Tom (literally cannot remember if Loki’s there as there are so many people!!) they would probably use Loki as a replacement for Mephisto, right?

  15. Adrien says:

Chad Boseman. Yay! Benedict Cumberbatch. Tom Hiddleston. And none for Keanu Reeves. Bye!

    • Allegra says:

I think Keanu is not interested in being part of Marvel Universe.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he will star in the Sci-Fi Film ‘Replicas’.
      Good for him!

  16. lindy79 says:

I want a Ruffalo Hulk movie!!

    • Kali says:

i will second, third and fourth (can you fourth? Who knows….) that statement. (I’m about 3 issues into “Planet Hulk” at the moment and my god, what I would give to see that on screen….)

    • Jess says:

I love Ruffalo as Hulk but I question even the new Marvel/Disney being able to pull off a Hulk movie. Maybe that’s because, when he’s in Hulk form, he’s really very boring.

Meanwhile, I’m so glad Loki will be back – he is the best part of the Thor movies (even though Hemsworth is hot as Thor). But the best, best news is the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies. I can’t wait for those!

  17. Kali says:

I’m also putting in a “honk” for more Chadwick Boseman news on a more general basis, please! Even if it’s just a “handsome man walks down street looking handsome” type deal.

  18. Miss Jupitero says:

Loki could play a role in Doctor Strange’s films. As I recall, Asgard possesses to Eye of Agamotto, and he overlaps pretty strongly in several of the comics.

Can’t recall the details, but there is a hilarious episode where he eats hotdogs on top of a NYC rooftop with Spider-Man and talks about all the Earth ladies with whom he’s had dalliances. “I’m a Norse God. It’s what we do.”

    So many possibilities…..

    • Lilacflowers says:

I can imagine Tom saying those words!

      • Miss Jupitero says:

The fan girls would have a feeding frenzy. But I think all of this has already backfired on him. He needs to focus on other roles and get away from Liki. Will marvel let him? I doubt it. They will get their six films.

      • 'P'enny says:

ha-ha – I did too, I saw Tom saying it, not as Loki but as himself, like he said “naked is better” line.
Actually it probably is tom’s chat up line.

as for back firing, no more than Cumby and Sherlock, 2017 is a long way off and there will be much for others to move on from.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Miss Jupiteiro, Marvel held Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman to their contracts. Unlikely they would let a fan favorite go but the MCU is expanding so the movies will be farther apart. He is being very productive in his non-Marvel time

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Marvel is cheap, and they want their money’s worth. They are not going to let him go as long as they have the option. Even if Loki dies in Thor 3, I can imagine a number of scenarios that could bring him into further films, Dr. Strange (in which time and inter-dimensional travel is big) being pretty obvious.

Hiddles is nothing if not hard-working. That boy has stamina.

      • icerose says:

@Miss Jupitero he comes back as an ethereal being and mixes it up with Strange but because of his state this time it ends in astalemate, Lots of debate going on about who had the stronger magic.
Pairing them would certainly insure that DR Stranges first film hit some box office targets and plus but it would be such a money grabber that it makes me cringe.

    • icerose says:

Dr Strange and Loki have several encounters. In one Loki nearly destroys him but Thor intervenes.

  19. Browniecakes says:

I miss TH. So much to look forward to!

  20. Allegra says:

Hiddles WOO HOO!! I don’t know what a dragonfly is but I think I might be one…I must off to listen to him read dirty poetry

    • koko says:

You’re here, your happy and your listening to him read dirty poetry. I think you qualify for “dragonflies” status. Welcome 🙂

    • TTMuch says:

@Icerose: the one I replay the most is “May I feel” by e.e. cummings. It’s amazing. I will have to look up the Tennessee Williams reading!

      • Lilacflowers says:

        That one just kills me.

      • TTMuch says:

@Joe Spider thank you! Holy shite, that is crazy long and I would NEVER have guessed it was an English person speaking. And the language made me totally LOL, too funny. Tennessee Williams didn’t hold much back. I remember seeing an excerpt of a play with Leslie Ann Someone (can’t remember if Down or Warren) and Ray Sharkey, wild

      • icerose says:

@Tmuch -I told you -I was just gobsmacked -I love Tennessee Williams and he can be pretty brutal but this surpassed it all for me.

      • Anne tommy says:

The ee cummings is just fab…I listened to all six hours of hiddle’s red necklace audio and felt rather embarrassed when I found out it was actually ” young person’s fiction” as I do not fit that demographic by several decad…I mean years.

  22. Arya Martell says:

Hiddles is good and stuff but OMG Black Pather!! *Squeals* I love Black Panther. I cannot wait for Black Panther!!! I was hoping Djimon Honsou would play T’Challa instead of Korath but Chadwick Boseman could do it. Idris Elba or Djimon would have been ideal and the only reason I protested his casting as Heimdal and Djimon’s as Korath is because they screwed themselves for Black Panthers.

  23. Allegra says:

After checking EVERY DAY TWICE A DAY, I am so pleased to see the drought has, if not totally ended (this post is really a Black Panther post in terms of importance) than at least gotten ameliorated with a few drops of nectar.
Really expected some kind of post or at least a link on International Poetry Day, when Radio Times posted that interview with the Love Book creator (and ALL THOSE LOVELY TOM READINGS.)
She dropped a pretty big statement in her interview–that it was Tim Burton who referred her to Tom, NOT HBC. And his glowing prognosis for Tom’s career.
And then there was the release of more Coriolanus sword traing pics, not previously seen. Yum yum yum!

    • Allegra says:

      TotallyBiased:

I love that article. Especially this part:

      http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-10-21/tom-hiddleston-emma-watson-damian-lewis-and-the-stars-making-poetry-popular

      • sigh((s)) says:

Good god I love that reading.

      • TotallyBiased says:

        @Allegra
        YES! Love that quote, too. But I’m still wrapping my head around Tim Burton saying Tom will be big, big! And wondering if he has any future ideas about using Tom together with HBC in something. I think they could have fun together.;

      • Allegra says:

        TotallyBiased:
        I thought about that too.
It would be great if the three could work together on a project, be it a film or a play.
Tim needs a new source of inspiration, perhaps a new muse. I know he has a long association with Johnny Depp, but this formula no longer works.
So let’s hope that in the near future, all three can work together.

      • Allegra says:

After I read that article about the next project James Ivory(JI), crossed my mind that maybe it was HBC who presented Tom to JI, after all he was the director of the film A Room with a View.

Regarding the Tim´s comment about Tom, Jim Beaver, Austen Haley and Tony Leggett( the guy who did his palm reading ) think alike.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Here’s some more, for those what can’t be bothered to click the link–
What Mr. Burton said about Tom, for example. But do click anyway, just to LISTEN to all the ear candy!
“It was director Tim Burton who suggested that Esiri ask Hiddleston to read on the app. “This was before he became mega mega famous,” Esiri remembers. “Tim told be he was very good and that he was going to be really, really big.

“Tom’s fans have been incredible and really active in supporting the app and it’s been downloaded in China, Japan and Romania where he has massive fan bases.””

  26. aquarius64 says:

Hoping Loki finally gets what’s coming to him in Thor 3. Judging. from the synopsis Loki is busted and Asgard revolts because the people will believe Loki killed Odin to take the throne. Desperate Loki garners forces that bring on tnd of days. Rumors are saying Thor kills Loki by ripping his head off. Earth willl factor in with Jane & Selvig; both have been exposed to Infinity Stones and both are contracted for Thor 3.

Not styled to well – that’s hat hair, he’s pulled his hat of & pulled it up like he’s been shocked. LOL it’s sticking up, however, this Mr Whippy style he’s been cultivating this year isn’t doing h any favours he needs it longer at the side 😜 I am hopping hell grow the sides out for skull island.

      • jammypants says:

I love him and his huge forehead 😀

      • Josa says:

There’s not much meat on that face anymore, made his face looks even longer and that forehead bigger. Plus the camera angle, and the hairline isn’t helping.

    • icerose says:

nice and the Hank hair looks good as well

    • Lilacflowers says:

And the black leather jacket reappears. Can the cardi be far behind?

  27. Abby_J says:

I am excited for Black Panther (my husband is over the moon excited) but what about Falcon? I need more Anthony Mackie in my life. Also, there is Sebastian Stan. We need MORE Sebastian Stan. If I remember right (all I know about the comic books I’ve learned from the hubby), both Bucky and Falcon take over as Captain America (I could be wrong) so maybe they can work them in there. Chris Evans might not want to play him forever.

Still no Black Widow movie? Darn. Will someone PLEASE tell us what happened in Budapest?

    • Allegra says:

Well, the people from Chris Evans thread today are wonder the same.

    • Lilacflowers says:

We definitely need more Sebastian Stan. And there needs to be a place for your JLM

      • Abby_J says:

Ohhh….I like the idea if JLM in a super hero costume. Maybe for our next outing for ice cream? 🙂 (Elementary starts tonight!) I think we need to send Mark Strong and Sean Bean out to err…invite Sebastian Stan to come join our little group. Sure he is married and all, but I am sure his wife will understand.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Can we hope that tonight’s episode is Halloween-themed? I’m sure Sebastian’s wife won’t mind once Mark explains it all to her but he must wear his Winter Soldier costume. The boys are due for an ice cream trip now that Tom is off his starvation diet.

      • Abby_J says:

Sounds perfect. I’m fine with the Winter Soldier costume, but sometimes he needs to wear his Mad Hatter costume as well.

        Ice cream for everyone!

  28. Dommy Dearest says:

I already know if I read any comments concerning the actual comics my blood will boil. So I’ll just say this. FINALLY BLACK PANTHER AND CAPTAIN MARVEL FILMS! I love Carol and T’challa.

Also, don’t get too excited. Loki dies in the comics when Ragnarok occurs. He’s the one that brings it.

  29. JoAnn says:

I think they may have shaved the widows peak to be more severe since Hank was balding young. Or that is Tom without the floofing. You could show the movie on his forehead! LOL.

    • joe spider says:

      floofing?

    • icerose says:

hank also had a huge forehead -it is suppose to be a sign of intelligence according to the old folk.

      • 'P'enny says:

        And fertility ‘cough’ Jude law.

It will be interesting to see how he handles losing hair – mad scientist curly sides shiny top or I hope he does a Jude and trim it back . With his eyes & smile he can carry a short hair cut . Probably man him up a bit 😜

      • Dara says:

@’P’enny – I think Sting might be a good template for how the Tomster looks sans hair – same giant forehead, piercing blue eyes, lanky frame, etc. Stanley Tucci is also someone that pulls it off well – but differently – with a beard, glasses, a stylish yet still manly scarf, etc. And you’re right – whatever is left has to be trimmed super short, or shaved entirely.

      • Isadora says:

Or maybe a John Travolta wiglet! 😀 😀

      • Allegra says:

Or maybe this version from Hashtag_Genius:
        https://twitter.com/Hashtag_Genius/status/527442685683314688

      • Camil says:

OMG @Allegra that’s adorable!!! I love Little Hiddles

      • Dara says:

OMG @Isadora – if there’s a Travolta-wiglet in his future, some off-her-rocker fangirl (i.e. – me!) is going to snatch it off his head and burn it in a cleansing fire right in front of his eyes – and we can toss the Otter’s teeny tiny hat on the inferno just for good measure. No jury of my peers (i.e. – other off-their-rocker fangirls) would ever convict me, heck I might even get a parade…or my own Tumblr tribute page, with accompanying animated gif’s of the spectacle. Daring Dara has a bit of a ring, don’t ya think?

  30. Sigh. Tom can sure wear the sh*t out of a suit, can’t he?

  31. aquarius64 says:

At the end of the day Marvel relies on Hiddleston and RDJ a lot to put butts in the seats of a movie theater. These two are their cash cows. The studio better prays that they stay scandal free and not do anything to impact the box office and any merchandising deals. The movies aren’t rating PG-13 for nothing – the crux is the kids.

    • 'P'enny says:

I am not sure they need either to make a load of dosh, look at the raging success of Guardian a film everyone was doubtful about – ran away with the box office.

I do think though Avengers needs RDJ for now and Thor franchise would be really dull without Loki, he/hiddleston stopped Thor2 from dying on it’s feet.

    • jammypants says:

I think Marvel relies on everyone to put butts in seats (and RDJ is the cream of the crop for them).

  32. Ellen says:

Yessss and end to the Hiddles drought and a brand new photo although I thought HW had reddish brown hair not black?

    • joe spider says:

He went to LA for about a year in 2008 to try his luck – didn’t work out and he came home I believe. I guess by crashed he meant stayed there.

We use the term crash pad in the UK to describe a place we are staying temporarily.

But of course it could also mean he had a car crash there!!! 🙂

      • TotallyBiased says:

I know he says five years in the tweet, but he’s also said before that the three months he spent in LA in early 2009 was his first trip there “as an actor” He did a lot of auditions, including Thor, and didn’t have ANY success other than the Thor audition. Of course, we’re all okay with that.
As for 2008, he couldn’t have been there the entire year what with Ivanov, Wallander, and all the promoting he did with Joanna Hogg for Unrelated.
So I always figured he was referring to the 2009 trip (look for adorable pics of him and Branagh at the LA BAFTA Tea!) in that tweet.
Does this make me a Dragonstalkerfly?

    • Allegra says:

I think is when Tom attended MTV Awards last year in LA.
And he talked about the time he lived there( in Venice).

    • Allegra says:

      joe spide:

I think another Italian newspaper decided to publish a summary of all films addressing works of shakespeare.
Unfortunately there is no new information.

    • 'P'enny says:

I am really hoping this is going to come off, but when? seriously, James Ivory isn’t getting any younger and he only has a short window jan-march to get it done. Which I can’t see that happening. Maybe that is why Night Manager isn’t sealed either, I think there is scheduling issues around Skull Island which is bang right from spring summer. Surely will be 4 month commitment. High Rise promo in June/July, Crimson Peak promo in Oct, but he can delegate that out to the others. But, come Hank w if that gets an autumn release he will be on a full American tour.

      • joe spider says:

But after last year’s train crash of projects it is good to know that he is in demand.

      • jammypants says:

It’s a good time to be a fan. You actually feel rewarded, which is such a nice change from last year.

  33. Allegra says:

New lovely pics with Tom at Times Talks Madrid:

  34. et alors says:

Looks like AMC won the bidding war for the Night Manager series.

  35. Ellen says:

@Joe Spider what was that theory that you kept going on about in Benny threads or is it nothing?

    • joe spider says:

It was a little whimsy. You remember how certain blogs went on about JA. Well it just lazily crossed my mind that she might have been a minor stalker. 1st photo at the tennis – she had a pass around her neck and he didn’t so I wondered if they actually didn’t go there together, she found herself next to him and…… explaining why he looked so uncomfortable. Next sighting in shop together – alleged. Third, the vacation photo – perhaps she followed him there ….. explaining why he looked so awkward in the pic.

ps. I didn’t “keep going on about it” I just mentioned it once. It was/is a bit of fun.

      • sigh((s)) says:

You would think he would call the police instead of taking her to dinner if she followed him on holiday. That’s severely crazy levels of stalking. Unless she was a one night stand thing, though that would obviously still be stalking, just with some level of previous contact.

      • joe spider says:

It was only a thought which crossed my mind, not too serious.
