Here are some photos from last night’s Insterstellar premiere in London. It just occurred to me yesterday, as I was covering Anne Hathaway’s Telegraph interview, that some of these actors might be aiming for Oscar nominations. Annie clearly is. Jessica Chastain probably wouldn’t mind, but she’s not going to go all Hathaway for a nomination. And Matthew McConaughey? Alright alright alright.
As for the fashion, I’m trying to decide if the London styles are better or worse than the LA premiere looks. I kind of think London had the better style overall, but I still love to nitpick, so let’s get to it. Annie is wearing Wes Gordon with Charlotte Olympia platform heels. I feel like this is an Angelina Jolie-esque look, right? Angelina has been skewing more conservative lately, she loves a good sleeve and a boxy waist, and she loves dark metallics. If only this Wes Gordon dress was more sacky, then it would totally be a Jolie look. As it is… I kind of think this is too matronly on Annie. She’s only 31! Something nice: her makeup is much better here than at the LA premiere. And I like the emerald earrings (also a Jolie-esque touch). Also: Annie has a great mani, if you can make it out.
As for Chastain, her dress is Saint Laurent. I feel like she’s worn this dress or a version very close to it recently. Maybe at Cannes this year? I guess I’m remembering Chastain in that lovely violet Elie Saab in Cannes, although that look was WORLDS better than this Saint Laurent. Her boobs look weird in this gown and she’s carrying herself like she’s knocked up.
Matthew brought his wife Camila Alves, who rocked a hot white pantsuit with a built-in cape. I don’t have the ID on this. Maybe it’s Dolce & Gabbana (the McConaughey family wears a lot of D&G), but I doubt it. This is one of the best looks I’ve seen on Camila in a while. Usually her style is kind of… glossy beauty queen. Not on this carpet!

Camilla’s outfit is the same that Portia De Rossi was wearing just recently. I think it was in late September to some abc premiere event where they introduced her to “scandal”. No designer tag though.

Annie’s outfit is horrible. The shoes, the dress, the earrings… I don’t like any of it or the combination. She should wear lighter stuff. All these dark, greyish colour don’t do any good on her IMO.
Jessica’s dress looks really weird around the boob section, but still it is a nice dress and the colour just suits her perfectly.
the darker tint on Jessica Chastain’s dress hem in the top picture actually makes it look quirky. but then i scrolled down and found out that it’s just because of wet ground.

Interstellar is on a few predic lists for Best Picture, but I’m not so sure about the actors. I think Chastain will aim for a nom for A Most Violent Year. Is there buzz for the acting in Interstellar?
No. In fact, I don’t think the reviews have been as strong as originally predicted.

Yesterday I mentioned how MM was playing MM in a clip I saw for the movie promo. Then last night, the promo ran again sans that part. They must have realized it looked BAD.

Anne’s dress is kind of matronly but I don’t hate it. Jessica’s is a bit much for a premier. And Matthew suit looks like Troy and Abed’s Imaginarium.

Whuut where have you been? Jessica has been working HARD to get a oscar nom for months, honestly it feels like she is just trying for whatever movie she is in at the moment and she is getting “buzz” for this one. I have not heard about Anne, I don’t actually think she is trying?
and for the dresses meh on both of them. Camila looks the best and i’m giving her a gold star for not wearing platform heels.
Chastain has been going full-on Portman all year in her quest for awards. It doesn’t matter that her movies are boring (Eleanor Rigby, Miss Julie) or that her part is so small that she couldn’t even be considered for Supporting (Interstellar). She’s been going on and on about how hard her life has been, how she was bullied in high school, how she’s been depressed, her sister’s suicide, blah blah blah. She’s been throwing it all at the wall, even making a disparaging remark about Meryl Streep taking too many roles, just to get some attention. I can’t stand her.
I think she is going to try it with ‘A most violent year’ now instead. She even went on pap walks with her boyfriend, she tried everything but no one is paying attention.
That dress is f-u-gly!
At least Anne isn’t dragging her dress on the wet carpet like some people. Chastain always tries SO HARD to be so glamorous. Did no one tell her that it’s October? She’s dressed like it’s summer weather, not rainy and cold. She looks ridiculous.

Yes, I love the texture and idea, but agree it’s an unflattering silhouette. Better than Chastain’s boring, pretty, dress though.
I actually like Anne’s dress. Yes, it’s matronly but I like it. She looks great. Jessica is over dressed for the premiere. Camila’s pantsuit is good but that cape looks hideous. And, no comment on Matthew’s face and suit.
Camila’s outfit is the same one that Portia wore in the Ellen post a couple days ago. I remember everyone saying it was the worst outfit ever. I guess the right accessories, hair, and a dose of confidence goes a long way.
I would have loved Jessica’s gown more if it was a different color. That pink color doesn’t really suit her pale skin or red hair.

Not a fan of Jessica’s dress AT ALL. It looks like it would be at home at a senior prom in June – not a cold, rainy movie premiere of a sci-fi drama that’s got Oscar buzz. I’m not saying she should have shown up in a couture spacesuit by Chanel, but her styling team could and should have taken the occasion into consideration.
If ever there was a time to go more daring and avant garde yet still be appropriate, this was it. Anne and Camila got the memo and brought a little edge. Not sure if they were completely successful, but I give them both points for taking a fashion risk.
Awful, weird fitting dress. Tacky shoes that have nothing to do with the dress. Who the hell is her stylist? Also: these actresses spent their year doing three things: working out, playing make believe and going to premieres and awards ….so why the hell some of them cannot reach a body that justifies all that time spent on the gym? I know it sounds superficial, but that’s what they’re always doing so why not doing it well?
Hathaway and Chastain both drive me to distraction, but at least Chastain has stopped inserting her alma matter into every interview.

Like Anne’s dress but it feels a little too matronly to me. I also really like her hair but it doesn’t seem to fit with the dress. It seems a little art deco if that makes sense. Not feelin’ the top part of Jessica’s dress. Almost uniboob like Kat Dennings. Gotta get the girls fit right.
Interstellar’s plot reminds me of a sci-fi book I read by Ben Bova called New Earth. That’s it.
