Chris Hemsworth ‘definitely’ wants his kids to grow up in Australia, not LA

Here are some photos of Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky in Sydney on…Thursday night, Sydney-time. Chris and Elsa attended the Foxtel season launch, and I’m assuming this was probably a paid appearance? Perhaps. Elsa and Chris have been spending more time in his home country of Australia lately, and there are even reports that he just bought a huge Australian mansion too. While on this red carpet, Chris spoke to The Daily Mail about the rumors he’s moving back home:

He made his name in Home And Away but has been living in LA since landing some big Hollywood roles over the last few years. However as Chris Hemsworth walked the red carpet with his wife Elsa Pataky on Thursday night for the Foxtel Upfronts event, he told Daily Mail Australia that they are looking forward to spending more time in Australia.

When asked about the $7.2million home he is reported to have bought in Bryon Bay recently, The Avengers star said: ‘We’re spending more and more time back in Australia and I definitely want the kids to grow up here and spend time here.’

He then joked: ‘But I can’t confirm I’ve bought a house here so ill side step that’ and added: ‘We were in California a lot I missed it here and my wife missed it too so that was our goal to get back here.’

He also revealed that his partner Elsa, who is a Spanish actress, is ensuring their three children learn to speak Spanish as well as English. Sounding like he is enjoying every moment of fatherhood he said: ‘The twins are awesome they’re fantastic. They’re seven months old now and starting to move around and their personalities are blooming. My daughter is speaking Spanish and English and every day it’s something different.’

The proud parents welcomed twins Tristan and Sacha six months ago, bringing their growing brood to a total of three gorgeous children. Meanwhile, the God of Thunder had been sighted in Byron Bay a number of times after buying last month a house overlooking the Pacific and Seven Mile Beach. Not only will he be able to relax in the Balinese-style pad, but there are three separate villas for the rest of the family to use.

[From The Daily Mail]

I think this is really interesting. It’s always been widely believed that Elsa is the one who prefers being in the thick of it, in paparazzi-friendly London and LA, and she’s the one making those family decisions about where they’re going to live. And it sounds like Chris wants to take the family away from the weekly pap-strolls of LA, so he’s moving his family back to Australia. Huh. So it might be a while before we see Elsa getting pap’d on the regular again? Well, she can always post the family photos to her Instagram.

For the kids’ sakes, I hope they move to Australia too. That way they can grow up out of the spotlight. Sorry Elsa!

  2. Lilacflowers says:

Considering he enjoyed the time his family spent in the Outback when he was growing up, it is understandable that he would want his own kids to be near that. And surfing.

    • Likey says:

(Not all Aussies surf.) I grew up in Australia and it really has it all now. 20 years ago, not so much. The best cities – Sydney and Melb – are world class and far better than the congested urban sprawl of LA or NYC. Better living standards and education system than the US or UK for pre-college. Chris has an interesting upbringing. I think they did actually live in the NT and the outback for some time before moving to Philip Island, where I think his family still live. He was born in Melbourne though.

      • aquarius64 says:

        NT = Northern Territory?

American here. I’m not familiar with nicknames for other areas outside this country.

  3. Someonestolemyname says:

I’ve only seen it on tv but Australia looks so beautiful.

He’s gorgeous, I just stare when he’s on the screen.

    Elsa’s one lucky woman.

    • Esmom says:

He really is dreamy. They look cute together. I didn’t know her background, though, I’m not sure why but I thought she was American.

I also imagine Australia to be beautiful and a wonderful place to live. I like that he’s not interested in staying in Hollywood.

      • Mhd says:

I live in Australia, and I grew up a couple of hours from Byron, I went there a lot as a kid cos my cousins have a farm there and yeah Byron is beautiful. Really chill, nice people, not hippy and yeah just a really nice place!/

Simon Baker (the guy from Mentalist) actually lives about 10 mins from my cousins so yeah I guess there are a few celebs hiding away down there!

      • Lozface says:

It really is one of the greatest places on earth and a wonderful place for kids to grow up. I am ridiculously biased being Australian myself!

He appears to be very comfortable when he’s back in Australia and it’s nice to hear Elsa likes it too.

He has been working with / promoting foxtel for a few years now so it would definitely be a paid gig. Plus he will be in Melbourne next week for the races… Can’t wait to see how he scrubs up for that! He’s just so dreamy, and down to earth!

      • Abby_J says:

*sigh* Simon Baker is so dreamy. He makes me feel all melty.

I’ve never visited Australia, but it looks beautiful. I just can’t get over the fact that everything there wants to eat you.

      • Lex says:

Only if you’re tasty! Very few people get killed by animals in Aus – that’s all hype and stereotyping. Ive lived here my whole life and have never seen a snake in the wild. My kangaroo scares them all away I guess…

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Nice, if true, and good for the kids, I would think. What an attractive couple they are physically. I don’t know much about them except people seem to dislike her, but she’s certainly very pretty, and he’s gorgeous.

    • Esmom says:

I said something just above about how great they look together. Definitely an attractive couple. It may sound bizarre but I like the contrast in their heights.

    • V4Real says:

Many people tend to not like famewhores and Elsa was considered the best of the best. If you knew the Adrien Brody story you would understand why her nickname is Remora.

But poor Elsa let’s see if she really has changed and no longer desires the spotlight. I mean it’s not like she had such a great career herself. Besides small parts in films such as Snakes on a Plane and Fast and Furious she was pretty much unknown. She’s one lucky fish that landed herself a whale.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I’m wondering how they met each other. Not on a film set????

But God, she is gorgeous. I still can’t believe she’s in her late thirties–not because she looks old, but because if I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought she was in her mid twenties, tops.

      • V4Real says:

Hey there pretty girl. I think they had the same dialect coach or something like that.

She’s a pretty woman but I think she looks better with her natural auburn brown hair color

      • Liv says:

Or the same acting coach? He taught her english and she him spanish I think. And I agree, she’s a famewhore. She tries to hustle undercover now, probably because Chris isn’t eager to go on pap walks, but it’s still there.

She’s very pretty though and it’s crazy how her body snapped back after her pregnancies.

      • Mewsie says:

What Elsa does not say is that she had surgery as soon as the babies were out to rearrange her muscles and skin.

And that is a totally OK thing to go for, if you can afford it.
But she should not act like this is the norm and like women who don’t bounce back super quickly after giving birth are somehow not trying hard enough.

It’s really much harder and it takes longer than two months and a juice cleanse if you leave it to nature.

I have friends who gave birth and who beat themselves up because they are not as shiny and awesome as Elsa or other celebs right after giving birth. I always tell them that money is a superpower.

  5. ali says:

    Love her hair

    • lucy2 says:

I kind of do too. I can’t pull that short wavy style off, so I’m a little jealous of those who can.

  6. Jaderu says:

I had no idea he was Australian. LOL That’s how much the Hemsworths are on my radar.
I wonder why he said “I can’t confirm I’ve bought a house here”?
It’s his house. Why would he have to keep it quiet?

    • Mewsie says:

Because the last time he announced he had bought a house, the next day pics from inside the house were all over the tabloids and he did not like that.

  7. Aussie girl says:

I’m too biased to make a real comment & never been to California.

  8. danielle says:

Actually starting to like Elsa. Huh.

  9. Talie says:

She seems to have calmed a bit with her famewhoreness… settling into a sort of Camilla Alves role. Supporting her man.

  10. AG-UK says:

I love Australia too laid back people, beautiful landscape, great food. What’s not to love, my only issue for me it’s just sooooooooooooo far. Great way of life.

  11. laura says:

I want to raise my kids in Australia and I’m noteeven Australian! That country captured my heart years ago *sigh*

  12. Adrien says:

    Good decision. Australia is paradise.

  13. Josefa says:

Shouldn’t babies only listen one language when they are learning to speak? A friend of mine is half German, her mom used to speak German around her when she was little and that led her to speak in this weird, weird accent. I read somewhere kids are supposed to learn second languages around 5 or something. I’m talking out of my ass though, and I won’t shade Elsa for it.

    • Sofia says:

Actually is quite the opposite. It’s fine to teach them languages since babies but what is recommended is “one person, oe language”, so kids know they only speak english with dad and spanish with mom. In some cases imagine dad is french and mother is portuguese and they speak english to each other, so kids are familiar with 3 languages. Then, the one they use more (specially when school starts) is the one they are more comfortable and fluent. I’ve seen studies where it shows that kids who naturally are in contact to more languages seem to know less in the beginning but that’s not true, they more in different languages, but they reach a phase where they pick up and becomes easier for them to learn languages in the future, because their brains gained that plasticity needed to know different languages.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Josefa•

I totally and wholeheartedly endorse what •Sofia• said. Studies have repeatedly shown that multilingual children outperform their unilingual peers academically and socially (you honestly think differently in different languages). And the earlier the child hears and uses a language (spoken or signed) — the better as infants can hear all sounds of language and this fades away if not used. The only thing to keep in mind is multilingual children speak slightly later than unilingual children because they have more information to process. But it’s only temporary and completely normal.

      • Sofia says:

You explained ir even better than me! English is my 2nd language ^_^

      • Palmasan says:

Well, it’s really a misconception that multilingual kids start speaking later because they are confused, it really depends on the child. My son is growing bilingual (Spanish, German). At 18 months he knew a lot of words in both languages and mixed them up a little, but when he became 2 he could differentiate perfectly both languages and his vocabulary exploded. Now at 3 he’s a chatterbox and switches languages in seconds. He even claims to speak some French and English, which is probably 5 words tops he heard me speaking. My cousin’s daughter is growing trilingual (French, Flemish and Spanish) and was also an early talker. There are really no rules apart from being consistent about using one language per person (or in specific situations).

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Palmasan•

It’s multiple studies that state multilingual children are *slightly* delayed as compared to unilingual children but obviously that varies. A lot. And Americans often play up those delays (and needlessly panic) when it’s perfectly normal to have a slight delay in any type of development.

        •Sofia•

English is my first language AND I studied developmental stages in both my undergrad/postgraduate program (however I unfortunately did not finish my masters). In addition, I lived in Japan (I’m American) and saw 1st hand children that were often bi- or even tri-lingual, and the ensuing panic from (mostly) the American parents, that resulted in the delays in speech.

I’m a big fan of multiple languages for both children and adults.

  14. lrm says:

Elsa had twins 7 months ago???!!! She looks amazing. I also have always found her very beautiful and love her street style. I think she’s fashionable and beautiful in a siena miller way-though siena’s a better actress. And both are not well liked, it seems. I enjoy seeing them on carpets and out and about though-great style.

  15. LAK says:

    He looks really good here.

  16. Claire says:

They are both gorgeous. My friend lived in Manly for a while and used to see him all the time. She said he was super nice.

  17. alicia says:

I adore Chris Hemsworth, he is the most gorgeous man in the world
I cant stand her but purely for jealous reasons cause she stole my man lol
she is one lucky biatch, got jackpot on so many levels on this one
