Oprah adopts new puppy from Chicago shelter

Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey got a new dog! And it’s a shelter puppy too! Oprah picked up her new cocker spaniel puppy at the PAWS animal shelter in Chicago. Oprah is a big fan of the shelter, so much that she sponsors a room in the shelter. The new puppy joins Oprah’s three dogs (two golden retrievers and an older cocker spaniel) in Oprah’s palatial Chicago and California homes.

Someone’s in the doghouse at Oprah Winfrey’s place, and it’s not Stedman: The daytime diva and her boyfriend just adopted a cocker spaniel puppy to add to their canine family.

The couple already have another cocker spaniel, Solomon, and two golden retrievers.

The newest addition was picked up from PAWS animal shelter in Chicago, where Oprah sponsors a room, on Sunday, reports the city’s Chicago Sun-Times.

Oprah’s dog Sophie, a 13-year-old cocker spaniel named Sophie, died of kidney failure last March.

From OK! Magazine

When Sophie died, Oprah dedicated an entire episode of her show to her dog, and to raising awareness of canine kidney failure. For the episode, Oprah was named PETA’s Person of the Year.

Cocker spaniels are lovely dogs, and Oprah seems like a very loving dog-owner. She was genuinely distraught when her beloved Sophie died, and she waited nearly a year before adopting again. I’m sure this new puppy will bring Oprah so much joy for years to come.

Losing a pet can be one of the most devastating events in a person’s life; especially losing an animal you’ve had for 13 years. My mom had a dog named Flipper for 25 years and it died by her side (finally gave up, poor thing was blind and could barely walk, my mom says) and she said it was like losing a best human friend.

Anyway, a new pet can never replace the old one but it can help heal the emotional wound left behind.

Why doesn’t she adopt a child rather? I am sure she would be a SUPER mom. Besides, with the money she has, she could give a homeless child a new life. – she’s wonderful!

Kim – Oprah can care less if you lose interest in her. She has proven she is living her life to fulfill others. What you think in inconsequential.

    NIce move Oprah.

I’ve always wanted a King Charles, too! I think they are great pets. Eventually I’ll get one (or two or three)

I could be mistaken, but I believe PETA gave her that honor because of her expose on puppy mills — or perhaps a mixture of both, but that’s what I remember making huge news. It was a great show and really brought awareness to the cause, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that she followed through with her promise to adopt rescue or shelter animals from here on out.

Kristen – Yeah, you’re right. The show dedicated to Sophie was about Sophie’s death and puppy mills. Same episode, and that’s why PETA named her person of the year.

I don’t watch her show anymore because she interrupts everyone all the time and it’s annoying.

That being said, I lost my Hannah Rose a year ago this month to a brutal attack by two pit bulls who came on our property and killed her in front of me and my daughter. We haven’t gotten another dog. I just can’t do it, it still hurts too much. I think a violent death is different somehow. Sudden, shocking, she was only eight. She died trying to protect us. Now I have four cats instead. (Our oldest cat also died two months after that attack, of kidney failure–she was 16.)

But losing Hannah broke my heart in ways I never thought losing a pet would. It’s amazing how much they steal into your soul and become a part of you. She was my buddy, always.

Anyway, now that I’m about to cry, good for Oprah for adopting from a shelter! I wonder how they got a purebred cocker, but still, good on her.

The shelter had a pregnant cocker spaniel and Oprah was able to choose one of the puppies. I love animal friends.

Oh, Anastasia, my heart goes out to you and your Hannah Rose. What a wonderful dog she was to protect you and your child from those vicious creatures. She obviously loved you both very much to sacrifice herself for you. Losing a pet is so hard, and losing one so violently must have shaken you to your core.

I hope eventually you feel up to adopting another dog so that it can know the love that you and your daughter have to offer. In the meantime, love those kitties! They are wonderful pets too!

J-Lin, so have I, several times, that still doesn’t mean I know her personally. When was the last time she had you over to her Lake Shore Drive apartment for dinner?
btw, I wear a thong, not panties……ask Oprah the next time you two meet for lunch, she’ll tell you.

At least she is adopting from a shelter and not buying a pup. Good for her. Those shows she had a while back about puppy farms was heartbreaking.

Shhhh Kaiser, you blew my cover, I signed a confidentiality agreement, shit! FYI= Her entire staff knows she bathes in garnets not diamonds. It’s her birthstone.

J-Lin, Steadman takes out the garbage & mops. I draw her bath. Get it right.

Damn, J-Lin, grow up. Two wrongs certainly don’t make a right. Geez…! There was no need to be insulting to Kim, it was a random comment and sounds like something I would have said if I felt like it. Then to attack Daisy like you’re somehow above it all..? Please…
