Angelina Jolie: ‘I’m going to be a better wife. I’m going to cook.’

FFN_Jolie_Ang_MIT_112114_51591621

Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!!! Angelina Jolie’s first major TV interview has just come out – she was interviewed by Tom Brokaw for Today/NBC News and you know what? At the top of this clip, Matt Lauer sounds totally jealous that Brokaw got the interview. Ha! Angelina is Team Ann Curry, you know. She was tight with Curry and I seriously doubt Angelina will ever sit down with Lauer again. But Brokaw? Sure. Brokaw also reveals that NBC is making some kind of documentary about Louis Zamperini and how Jolie got the film made and stuff. Brokaw interviewed Jolie and Zamperini just a few months before Louis passed too, so I’m sure that’s why Brokaw is all over this. Here’s the interview:

I love that Brokaw went right for a quote about the wedding. Angelina talked about being married to Brad now, saying:

“It did change, in just a feeling of that security and comfort that we always had but recommitting after 10 years of being together. We were fortunate enough to be in that unusual situation where got married with our children, and they were part of the ceremony and they wrote some of the vows. So, it was all of us agreeing to be together and to just commit to this life together—not because we had to, not because anything was missing in our lives—but because we were absolutely sure. We felt that much of a family and it was that moment. It was really lovely. It was a lovely day… I think we have more moments where I’ll say, ‘I’m going to be a better wife. I’m going to cook.’ And he says, ‘Oh, honey. Just know what you’re good at. Know what you’re not.’ ” she said. “But I do this, ‘No, no, no! I’m gonna get this wife thing down.’ But he knows my limitations and where I’m a good wife and a good mom.”

[Via E! News]

She also says working with Brad was “actually great.” Oh, and this is fascinating: “The first film we did together, we weren’t together…Ten years on, we’ve learned a lot more about each other, and it’s a film about a very troubled marriage. So, it felt like the appropriate thing to do on our honeymoon.” Hm.

Meanwhile, In Touch Weekly totally bought the photos of Angelina and Brad’s Sydney “fight” and cigarette-smoking. Sources claim that Brad threw up his arms and “you could see the frustration on his face…He was clearly exasperated with her…They kept talking over each other and putting their hands up in anger. They were upset but getting nowhere. Angie looked like she was on the verge of tears.” Sources say “Brad doesn’t want her smoking – at all” and their fight was so major, they were “distant” with each other on the red carpet. Oh, and they left Sydney in two separate private jets. Huh.

  1. RobN says:

Well, the obvious response is, sure, but are you going to eat?

    • Abbott says:

Two snaps and a cigarette flick for RobN!

    • Marie-France says:

Haha, that was also my first reaction to this!

    • Paige says:

Oh no here come the body shaming people in a AJ thread, how shocking!

      • RobN says:

Come on, the headline was screaming out for that response. It was a joke.

      • V4Real says:

Lighten up, its a joke, a very funny one.
I saw part of that interview on the Today Show; she looked beautiful.

What I can’t understand is how people get argument from these pics. To me it just looks like they talk with their bodies. Brad just seems very annimated with whatever he’s saying. If they are arguing, so what.. couples have disagreements. They never claimed to have had the perfect relationship.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

Oh brother, lighten up, it’s just a joke. God forbid, anyone talk disparagingly about Saint Angie.

Personally, I am not a fan of any woman who has a history of poaching men and breaking up relationships for sport.

      • Tarsha says:

To LeAnn Stinks, Angelina does not have a history of doing that. She never has done that. Put down the tabloids. I am not a fan of anyone who spreads lies about someone.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

        Moore,

I cannot argue with you looking at that way. There is definitely some truth in that statement. Even if she did pursue him, as the adult, it was his responsibility to have said “no.”

    • Luciana says:

I bet she will follow Giada De Laurentiis’ steps

      • Brodie says:

Do you mean Gida’s spitting food out instead of eating it or Gida’s rumored other talent that involves her mouth? 😃

I’m AM curious to know why a person who was so afraid of getting cancer that she had her breasts removed, would smoke? I mean, come ON, AJ!! Was it just all for show and attention and a way to get newer, bigger implants??

      • Fallon says:

Well at least Giada swallows something. Just saying.

      • Anna says:

        Thank you, Brodie.

    • Camille (The Original) says:

Balls. Small, itty bitty pathetic balls.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

      Tarsha,

Are you a personal friend of Jolie’s? How do you know they are ALL lies?

A book was written about her, which although unauthorized, claimed she seduced her own mother’s boyfriend at 16. Dontcha think if this was a lie, or contained not even an ounce of truth, Ms. Jolie would have sued?

I mean never mind that she came between Laura Dern and Billy Bob Thornton while they were engaged (and NO that is NOT a lie. I read an interview with Dern years ago who said they were engaged when BBT went off to film “Pushing Tin” she thought all was fine and then she read about his elopement with Jolie in the paper. No call, no breakup, nada. She thought they were still engaged until reading the news), insinuating that she seduced her mother’s man is about as low as it gets. I would sue if there was no truth, but yet, she didn’t, interesting. Where there is smoke there is usually a fire.

Please put the Jolie Kool-Aid down. I am entitled to my opinion, and by her own admission, Jolie has no girlfriends. Gee, I wonder why-LOL!!!

      Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

      • Sara says:

celebs cant sue because they wont win a trial against a paper. Angelina would have to prove she did not have an affair, how does someone do that? in other countries it would be possible because the burden of proof obviously lays with the person making the claim but in the USA papers can write anything they want without having to back it up by proof. thats why NO celeb sues, they only threaten. not suing is no proof at all. if she had sued and it was thrown out like all those suits you also would have seen that as a proof, right?

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

        Sara,

Regardless of a lawsuit, I find it odd that she keeps getting accused of the same thing over and over. Laura Dern (whom I explained above) and Johnny Lee Miller (whom she cheated on with Jenny Shimizu) would be two examples.

As for celebrities not winning lawsuits that is not entirely true, Liberace won, Katie Holmes, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Beil, Britney Spears just to name a few.

Joile is obviously a very polarizing figure. Those who choose to defend her are a bit obsessive and seem to take the criticism of her way too personally (as if they are being insulted themselves). Therefore I choose to end the dialog here.

Finally, I used to be a big fan of hers until I realized she wasn’t all that she is cracked up to be.

      • Moore says:

Her “seducing” her mothers boyfriend at 16 means her mothers boyfriend molested her at 16.

  2. sarah says:

Maybe husbands can start cooking and doing the stereotypical wifey duties.

    • CuriousCole says:

      +10000000

    • bettyrose says:

I had the same thought. I kinda wish people would use phrasing like “better spouse” or “better parent” to take the gender out of it, but I think all of us in non-stereotypical relationships sometimes joke that way.

      • I thought it was tongue in cheek, the thing about her being a good wife and cooking. Because I remember her on Anderson Cooper, when she was promoting In The Land of Blood and Honey, and she was talking about how she and Brad had made a Turkey by themselves, and how proud they were…and I remember one interview YEARS ago when someone asked Brad about the best thing Angelina ever cooked for him, and he said ‘cereal’…so I thought it was a joke…..

  3. Kiddo says:

Brad doesn’t want her smoking, but he has a cigarette in his hand? Also, how can I know the importance of this argument without her hair stylist’s commentary?

    • xpreson says:

Hmmmm, i’m sorry what those arms of hers resting in the balcony don’t seem to be telling me they are arguing at all. She is way too relaxed there and her body language is too open . Usually when in an argument the arms are crossed over the chest protecting and closing oneself.

      • Kiddo says:

Oh please be Angie’s hair stylist and let us know how her flat locks contributed to the tone of discussion.

      • Brandii says:

Huh. Thats the posture you adopt when you want to infuriate the other party. There they are flapping their arms, raising their voice, trying to put their point and there you are in stoner teen pose. ‘Like whateva dude, I cant be bothered to pretend to pay attention to your blathering.’

      • Anny says:

@Brandii Exactly! That posture is what I do when I want to annoy my boyfriend during a fight. “Whatever dude. Blah blah blah, stop freaking out.” A bit passive-agressive, I know.

      • Atticus says:

xpreson, that was my interpretation, too.

    • LadyMTL says:

Psssh, it’s obvious that the fact her hair is a wee bit mussed means that she’s upset and is probably tugging on it because of all of the frustration and anger she’s feeling. LOL. Seriously, like married couples never argue, sheesh.

  4. Pomegranate says:

Maybe they were fighting about her cooking? Lol!

    • lower-case deb says:

“i used to be yea big. then i ate your cooking one time, and the outhouse is never the same again.”

  5. Abbott says:

Sounds like Angie watched Kirk Cameron Saves Christmas.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Really. I’m a good cook, if I say so myself, and I’m also (I think, and hope) a very good wife. The two have nothing to do with each other. I’m a good wife because my husband is my best friend and I try my hardest to love, honor and support him through the joys and sorrows of life as I promised to do. I’m a good cook because I love to eat.

      • bettyrose says:

GNAT – I think it’s a semantic issue because the traditional sense of a “good wife” is one who puts aside all her own needs to fully privilege her husband. But why bother getting married or being in a relationship at all if the two of you aren’t going to love, support, and respect each other? Really, the defining trait of a great relationship is being best friends, but understandably some people still bristle at the old-fashioned wording of “good wife.”

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Gotcha. I meant “good spouse” or “good partner,” not the old fashioned meaning of “good wife” as in I have my lipstick on and a cocktail ready when he comes home.

    • doofus says:

      oh, I JUST got this…

I’m a bit slow on the uptake today, I guess…but bravo, that was a good one.

    • Ag says:

i guess i’m a good wife on some days (when i cook) and bad on others (when my husband does). sigh. need to rewatch kirk’s instructional videos again and take better notes.

    • Kitten says:

No, I don’t think she watched Kirk’s movie or she would have remembered that she should be JOYFUL while cooking.

  6. Frida_K says:

Tom Brokaw is certainly venerable. He’s old-school class, no doubt about it.

    Angelina…sigh…

    Signed,

Frida “No One is Going to Take my Title of #1 Brangeloonie from me EVER” K
    😉

  7. LadyJane says:

Here’s a conspiracy theory: MAYBE the Brange orchestrated the whole ‘fight’ thing and then BING – they will orchestrate a reunion – complete with snogs, ass-grabbing and long loving glances. After all, who loves a story arch more than actors/film makers – and during the height of Oscan campaign season?

    • Miffy says:

Yeah, I’m leaning towards that too. ” I have a bone to pick with you, but only out here on this balcony in the middle of a capital city rather than in one of the inevitable multiple rooms we have on this floor alone.”

  8. Greata says:

Come on, does any sane person really think these two very savvy people did not realize they would be photographed on the balcony of their hotel. Fight or not , look at her face when she talks about him in the interview. “The End,” my a*@.

    • Lena says:

To LadyJane, Miffy and Greata: So I guess you are saying these two are just totally fake and know that their ass-grabbing Pitt Porn will give them the Oscar, not the merits of the movie. I think its strange that all the publicity going on is all about Angelina, not the actors in the movie or even anything ABOUT the movie. At least with Affleck, Redford, Costner, Gibson, et al, everyone SAW the movie before all the gushing and accolades started. Big difference here.

  9. doofus says:

“Brad walks out”…but was he crying?!

  10. sighhhh says:

Ummm they both smoke though…. I think this is carefully orchestrated PR for Unbroken. They have shown when they want to be quiet and under the radar they know how…. she’s trolling. Nothing gets people’s attention like something to be slightly outraged about. Genius. Tons of publicity for the cost of a single cigarette.

  11. Tippy says:

You know it’s bad when the arms start flailing.

Balconies are the worst places to have an altercation.

  12. Jaderu says:

I have this creeping feeling in the pit of my stomach that they’re fighting over the lack of ceramic cockatoos at their wedding.
Maybe it’s just the hummus I had at 2 am this morning.

  13. Penelope says:

Meh. A couple that’s been together for ten years has a fight? OMG!

  14. Paige says:

Why didn’t I see this coming? Well actually I did, because soon as a celebrity gets married the tabloids start talking about their divorce. They have a cycle and they haven’t had a Brad/Angie in a very long time so the tabloids couldn’t wait.

  15. Eleonor says:

I’ve followed the link…Amal Clooney D&G dress is gorgeous!

    • Santolina says:

Well, maybe on someone else but on her it’s way too short, as usual. The overall look is kind of “cave woman/Wife of Bigfoot.”

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Oh no please, it’s been so great not having to see any stories about Amug on here.

  16. Vava says:

I think I’m a good wife, but I don’t do the cooking around here, my husband does. He does all the grocery shopping as well. Once in awhile I do bake him some cookies or something, but when it comes to the meals that’s his territory and he’s good at it.

When we got married we discussed the chores needed to keep the household running and we each picked out what we didn’t mind doing. I picked: laundry, cleaning, and yard work. He picked shopping and cooking. I’d say I got the better end of the deal! 🙂

  17. Hiddlesgirl85 says:

Maybe they were simply rehearsing a scene from their movie.

  18. jamrock says:

I believe they were fighting merely due to the fact that I felt they look distant on the unbroken premier. However they’ve been together for years arguments happened.

  19. Hotpockets says:

A married couple having a disagreement? Wow, I am so shocked. Who would ever think a couple with 6 kids would ever fight, no happy couple ever fights, they must be splitting up.

  20. Erykah B. says:

It truly is the end for these two, they are probably going to get a divorce after award season.

  21. Luciana says:

I love her sunglasses. That’s all I got

(I do not cook for my husband either)

  22. Santolina says:

May I just say that she looks 1000x healthier and more youthful in that cream top and gray blazer than in the usual deadening black? Carry on.

  23. Maya says:

Lol – look at the haters claiming or prenups wishing that these two had a huge argument and now heading for divorce.

First of all these two know that they are the most followed couple in the world. If they had an argument – they will not have had it in public view.

PS: I saw several pictures and videos from the premier where Brad and Angelina are loving towards each other. They did loads of PDA.

As for the seperate planes – again the gossip mags have it wrong. Brad flew to Australia alone from Asia while Angelina flew from US. They flew back together which was pictured.

    • Anny says:

Who is wishing for them to divorce? That’s a really mean thing to say – they have six kids. Divorce is awful. Nobody wants them to divorce, at least not here. From what I saw people are just commenting on their fight (usually in the lines of “every couple fights, whatever”) or her smoking.

I dont dispute the PDA – they probably fight and make up just like any other couple.

    • Artemis says:

But they had an argument. Her face says it all. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/11/25/2339780A00000578-2849113-image-19_1416935730353.jpg

And they know how to sell, an argument in private is not going to stop them being ‘on’ in public. They’re professional enough for that. Most celebs are if you haven’t noticed.

The argument doesn’t invalidate their relationship at all, it just shows that they know how to fake it in front of the cameras and subsequently how we’ll never know the true inner-workings of their relationship no matter how much they tell you how their relationship works.

      • Ennie says:

Wow, please do tell me if you know this particular pic was taken before or after the balcony arm-flailing-smoking-sweater-here and-then-suddlendly there-pictures.

    • Anny says:

I agree with you Artemis. They definitely fought. We cannot say how big of a fight that was or whether it was about something stupid or important. Maybe they can fake it for the cameras after a fight – they are both PR savvy and professional enough (not that it is a bad thing, they wouldn’t make it so far in Hollywood if they didn’t know the game). I do that too. When I argue with my boyfriend and we are due to appear in public I always try not to look like we did. After all it’s not other people’s business. If they were at odds during a public appearance it would only serve as a further gossip material and I bet they don’t want that. I certainly didn’t get an “ominous” or “that’s really bad” vibe from the photos. It just looked like two people fighting about something in a normal coupley way.

  24. DenG says:

All I remember reading in the past is that Brad makes pancakes and Angie might pour cereal for the kids, but I really thnk she’s messing with us. Angie, please don’t be a Goop.

  25. Mary Jo says:

AJ is already a pro with cereal and she was once able to follow the instructions on a packet of pasta (with Marianne Pearl’s help)… what more does a woman need?

  26. kri says:

FFS, everyone argues. but for real, I wsh neither of them smoked. Or anyone really. I’m not trying to be a nanny goat, but it killed my mom. There were times when I wanted to DANGLE my ex off a balcony, but you know, who hasn’t? Anyways, these two I do not see breaking up.

  27. Anny says:

I have only one question: is Brad going to do more “husbandy” stuff too? Like tinkering, washing cars, assembling furniture for IKEA and so on?

But that quote really got me. I am desperately rubbish with cooking, cleaning and other housewifey things. It’s really awesome that Brad is so supportive. I really like it. I mean how awesome is to have a man say “Honey, it’s okay, you cannot cook and you don’t clean that much but you are really good at other things and that’s great.” ???

Plus I always say I will become a better cook, a better…cleaner and other stuff and I know I will actually never do that because I am always too busy with school, work and other way more exciting things (to me).

    So go Angelina!

    • Santolina says:

Me, too, me, too! Love what you said. Would much rather be busy with work and other enriching pursuits! My family understands and we share the “un-fun” stuff.

      • Anny says:

Thank goodness I’m not alone. Sometimes I feel quite bad and think “Am I a bad woman?” and promise myself I get better at this but I guess it’s just not for me. I don’t mean to put down women who like taking care of their home and cook for their family – I actually really admire their skills. I am just way better at doing academical stuff and working. Cooking for me is no a joy but a chore that needs to be completed with usually disastrous results. Oh how I wish I could really enjoy cooking and cleaning, my life would get way easier.

      • Santolina says:

Anny, I admire YOU for being someone who knows and accepts herself! That message that we’re not worthy as woman unless we can be good homemakers is so deeply ingrained in us! And the confidence-eroding, constant guilt that goes with it, my goodness! Like you, I salute the ladies who do it well — bless ’em. I give back to my family and community in other meaningful ways. I also like curling up with a good book after a stressful week. Gotta keep my head on straight and the engine running for my own sanity and the people who depend on me. 🙂

      • Anny says:

Thank you! I admire you too. I mean life is not always about who bakes the best pie and has a spotless house. Thank God for that! I was raised in a thoroughly modern way but I still sometimes feel inadequate – and I know it’s completely stupid. But tell me about the guilt! It’s really unbelievable that even now women are pressured to feel like a failure when they aren’t good at womanly skills. I hope one day I would be able to tell my daughter (if I have one) not to worry about it. Or if I have a son, I will definitely explain to him that not every woman cooks and cleans and that there’s nothing wrong with that.

    • lower-case deb says:

after my husband proposed to me (omg, how many centuries ago was that?),
we and his parents then went to my parents to fulfil the traditional part of our courtship. formally, my mother spoke to his mother, “i will say this straight up. my daughter can’t cook, can’t mop floors, and probably can’t look after a husband all that well. but she can change a tyre and work to earn money. she likes children, so i think our future grandchildren won’t suffer. if you can’t accept that, then maybe she’s not the right partner to your son.”

my father in law actually exclaimed “what kind of daughter did you raise”, but my mother in law elbowed him into submission (champion elbower, she was). “that’s okay. my son can sew buttons and he’s a big boy.”

i miss my mother in law. she and my mom got fabulously. 🙁

      • Anny says:

Your mother in law sounds like an awesome woman. And your mum does too! My mum cannot cook all that well and she hates cleaning and all that stuff and she is not able to decorate a room and give it that elusive “woman’s touch”. I guess I took after her. But she is an admirable and incredibly kind woman and she is a great mother. Plus she has a doctorate in mathematics and physics and was the main breadwinner in my family so I guess we non-wifey women are still good for something (and we are damn good at it!)

      • Santolina says:

Thanks for those great stories, ladies! We need more female role models advocating for a broader perspective on what it means to be a capable and successful woman!

  28. Emily C. says:

So even Angelina Jolie buys into bs gender roles. Or is she just playing the media? I don’t know, but I now like her substantially less. Oh, and thinking a guy is some kind of great catch because he doesn’t expect you to be an idealized 50s fembot/housewife… no. That’s nothing but basic decency.

Also, her relationship changed after her marriage? Mine didn’t, and neither did that of anyone I know who had lived together a long time before marriage. I don’t think I believe that part either. I’ve been fine with every media game she and her now-husband have played before, but this one is seriously grossing me out.

    • Lucky Charm says:

How is wanting to learn how to cook buying into bs gender roles? She didn’t say or imply that Brad expected her to step away from the camera and into the kitchen with her apron to do all the cooking for the family just because they’re married now. I think it’s great if both partners know how to cook and can share the responsibility. And it’s great that a parent wants to cook for their family, instead of relying on other people to do it all the time. Maybe since the kids and Brad can do it, she wants to be able to join them in the fun?

    • sarah says:

      @Emily C

Agreed! I am not here for old school stereotypes. I have to cook & clean for my man to be a “good wife”.

  29. lower-case deb says:

two sets of pictures from that EW shoot:
    http://iheart-jolie.tumblr.com/post/103563874822/angie-and-jack-by-alexei-hay-for-ew
    and
    http://iheart-jolie.tumblr.com/post/103563247587/angie-and-jack-by-alexei-hay-for-ew-magazine

looks like they had fun together.

    speaking of leading men,
does anyone know whatever happened to that guy who played Diaval? i know he lives in Germany so he might not get pictured/papped so much in Hollywood, but it feels kinda like he’s dropped off the world.

  30. Amcn says:

It was a cute interview. She was making fun of herself and her lack of domesticity. And Brokaw was smitten and stupid eyed at her. It was sweet.

I wonder of she butts her smokes out in the kids pancakes? Cause that wouldn’t be cool.

  31. Janet says:

Oh wait. Isn’t In Touch the mag that said Angie and Aniston are gearing up for a major confrontation on the red carpet? Tell Angie I’ll hold her earrings.

  32. Lucky Charm says:

To me, Brad’s arm motions look like he’s describing something. I have to use my hands when I talk, and that’s what it looks like he’s doing there. There are enough celebrities/actors/politicians, etc. actually doing (stupid) stuff to keep the tabloids going, why not do a story on something that is “really” happening instead of speculating and making up a story?

And Angelina should totally give Duchess Kate lessons on how to stand up straight.

  33. Peppa says:

Mostly what I am getting out of this cover is that Angie isn’t embarrassed to wear her sweatshirt tied around her waist like a total mom… I dig that. Oh and now I really want to know if Leah got dumped by Jeremy. What are you doing to me InTouch??

  34. WhosTheFool says:

Well, all I can say is thank the lord for separate jets.

  35. lisa2 says:

I think she lit the cig for Brad… there are only 2 shot of her with it, after that Brad only.

They flew back to LA together. There are pics of the plane. Angie did the Directors Roundtable in LA.. then she and the older girls flew to NYC.. not sure if the girls are/were in London for the Premiere. Brad is in LA and there was a tweet pic of him at some store.

I’m sure they will all be together for the holiday and Pax’s birthday.

Regarding the “cooking thing” if you saw the video she was having fun.. the people in the background were laughing at her comments. She has talked about cooking for years.. said she and Brad had taken cooking lessons.

  36. Estella says:

She’s been married three times already and should probably know how to be a “good wife”, whatever that means, by now.

  37. KH says:

I actually know the lady who did all the in house cooking for Angelina and Brad while they were in Australia late last year and earlier in the year. She cooked and spent extensive time in the house with the whole family and she said that Angelina was a terrible cook, totally useless! But she knew it and they laughed at the fact. She didn’t try to pretend otherwise! (Bit like myself!)
She also said her view on food was a little odd in that while she did of course eat she just viewed it solely as nutrition.
