Justin Bieber made $80 mil in one year, tops Forbes’ under-30 list

Justin Bieber

We haven’t seen or heard from much from Justin Bieber lately, and it’s been nice. Scooter Braun must have taken Biebs’ image crisis seriously and told his swaggy goose to lay low. These are all October photos of Biebs hanging out in various places with his crew in tow. You know, just in case you wanted to see someone wearing camos around his thighs. Only Swaggy would do that, but all of the bad behavior and legal woes in the world can’t keep a baby brat down. Forbes has announced it’s annual list of top-earning celebs under 30, and Justin Bieber’s attitude perched at the top. He’s only 20 years old and earned $80 million in 12 months. Swag.

I’m shocked to see Bieber at the top of the list because of his legal woes and the fallout from his racist videos. Other names on the list aren’t too surprising. One Direction earned $75 million, and Taylor Swift came in 3rd with $64 million. At the bottom of the top 10 are Avicii ($28 mil) and Skrillex ($18 mil). I try to keep up with the cool kids, but I’m very proud to have never heard a Skrillex tune.

There was an odd bit of Swaggy news last weekend. Remember how he got baptized in a bathtub this summer? TMZ says Biebs is serious about returning to God now. He’s currently on a two-week mission at Rancho Mirage in Palm Springs. He’s hanging with a pastor and “has exiled himself from friends, alcohol, weed and everything else that doesn’t involve the good Lord.” Really. I don’t think Swaggy is sincere, but his team will probably put up with any amount of pomp and circumstance to keep him happy. I only hope we don’t have a future Kirk Cameron situation on our hands.

  1. Murphy says:

Yeah but isn’t he spending it like crazy too? Something like 250K a week…

  2. Ag says:

that’s depressing as $hit. i went to law school. i will be paying off my loans forever. sigh.

    • Bedhead says:

I feel your pain. Law school was the worst mistake of my life. There are a *lot* of us out here who feel the same way.

      • Santia says:

Another lawyer here – still 90K in debt. I obviously took a wrong turn somewhere when this little douche makes all that money and I’ll be in debt forever.

      • Jadzia says:

I feel the same way even though I have paid off my loans (at a huge personal cost that was more than monetary). And still, when I try to talk a kid out of going to law school, or at least into understanding how much debt they are going to be in and what their prospects of finding a job will be and what those jobs are like even if you get them? The parents inevitably tell me that I don’t know what I’m talking about. Because I guess having gone to law school and practiced for almost 15 years doesn’t qualify me to have an opinion on the subject. People believe what they want to believe, but it’s unfortunate that you can’t un-make your 22-year-old no-life-experience decision to take on a mortgage-sized, non-dischargeable debt.

    • Lori says:

Did anyone else watch the Ivory Tower report on CNN on the weekend? I’m Canadian so the cost of my education was far cheaper than the American college experience. I can’t imagine leaving Univeristy with $150k in debt. Its insane.

    • Amy Tennant says:

Heck, I’ll be in debt forever for my master’s, too, and I’m a librarian so I can’t even dream of making enough money to pay it off before I die.

    • kri says:

Ag-can you sue him for being himself and have him deported? Please!! It’s in the Constitution somewhere..The American People Shall Not Be Subject To Force Majeur by A Canadian Toddler” or something, righht?

    • Tristan says:

You’re so right. Its beyond depressing, its tragic that complete pointless & untalented idiots like him & the Kartrashians have made humdreds of million of $$$$, while infintely more deserving, hard working & talented people barely get by.

  3. Jaderu says:

We need to get the Biebs married off to one of the Dugger’s. Both bride and groom will then pay for their sins. Win win.

  4. Kiddo says:

Someone is buying this shit. That’s the worst of it, not that he’s making it, but that people value it enough to PAY money for it. Stop it already.

  5. Anna B says:

It’s so depressing that Bieber can make so much cash for being such a douche – no wonder Ariana Grande’s people are encouraging her to act like a diva. The rest of the list is interesting. J-Law’s doing well for herself – and I’m pleased about Skrillex!

  6. Tippy says:

Is his brow permanently furrowed? Maybe he’s had some work done.

  7. Eleonor says:

a two week mission is a fancy way to say he is in rehab ?

  8. Ava says:

Don’t believe. Forbes numbers, have been suspicious of them for a while.

  9. Talie says:

Wow. And he didn’t even work, really.

  10. Lydia M. says:

I believe there is nothing more encouraging to all of us leaving college with a ridiculous debt than seeing idiots like Bieber with too much money in their hands, uh?

    /infinite sarcasm

    Life ain’t f—ing fair, man.

  11. Nancy says:

It kills me how people talk down on him. Other young celebs did a lot worse than his antics, yet he is being trashed.

    • Hiddlesgirl85 says:

Yep! For instance, Leonardo D. was HORRIBLE at this age, but he gets a pass.

      • Lydia M. says:

To be fair, when Leo was in his late teens/early 20s there wasnt the internet, which was the ultimate game changer.

And the problem about people like Bieber, Miley and Rihanna is not necessarily how awful they are but the great lengths they go to publicize their trashy lifestyle.

They don’t even bother to be tasteless douchebags in private. They have to do it all over Instagram, enabled by the blindness of their stupid adoring fans.

And in Bieber’s case there is also the factor that he tries way too hard to be something he’s not. He’s not black, he’s not a rapper, he has no street cred, he has no understanding of urban culture, he’s just a white kid douchebag with too much money.

  12. Cici says:

I find these numbers really suspect since Justin hasn’t really been touring.

  13. Ninks says:

How can he have earned that much money? Did he have an album last year, did he tour? I don’t remember, maybe he did. But I’m really shocked that he’s making more than Taylor. She gets far more airplay than him (or maybe I’m just listening to the right stations), she has writing and publishing credits for all her songs, she toured (I think). I have no doubt he’s rolling in it, but I can’t see how he earned more than T Swift or 1D in the last 12 months.

    • melodycalder says:

I agree. No way this is right. Taylor has endorsement deals with companies like diet coke, record setting album sales, does theme songs for major movies like catching fire, sold out arena tours….. What has he done to earn more than her?

  14. Amy Tennant says:

Lord, I try to be a good person. But I want to see him trip on those stupid shoelaces SO BAD.

  15. Alyce says:

How is he making all this money? Hasn’t he lost tween favor? I don’t understand!

  16. scout says:

WOW! Tweens make their parents pay for this guy so he can act like a fool. Amazing.
One human rights lawyer is doing very well too since Sept. 25th, wearing a dress worth $7800!

  17. kri says:

He is gross. That’s all. gross.

  18. Mary Jo says:

Forbes is notoriously unreliable, but even if Bieber only made $8 mil it is too much.

  19. Veronica says:

It’s very telling to me that while most of the women on that list have a greater media presence, most of the men are making more. The glass ceiling follows us everywhere, I suppose.
