Angelina Jolie in a white Ralph & Russo caplet in London: gorgeous or sacky?

wenn21961411

Dear Gwyneth Paltrow: full-length capes are for peasants. Real elites wear caplets.

Here are some photos of my girlfriend Angelina Jolie at last night’s UK premiere of Unbroken. No Brad Pitt. Angelina seemed to go solo for the premiere, although she did pose with Jack O’Connell. I get the feeling that their relationship is… respectful yet flirtatious. Sexy, but slightly buttoned up. Like, she could eat him alive and he would enjoy it but so far it’s just about some lingering looks and casual affection. Angelina also invited lots of soldiers and veterans to the premiere, and she posed with them on the red carpet. Oh, and Miyavi was there too! He’s the best dressed man on this carpet.

As for Angelina’s look… a Ralph & Russo white dress with a caplet. You can see the runway look here – it’s been altered for Angelina, obviously. No embroidery on the caplet and the waist is slightly different. I like this look, I think it’s pretty and interesting and all of that. But since it’s Angelina, I tend to think she was drawn to it because the caplet made her think of her beloved sacks. It’s like she’s wearing half a sack as a cape!!! Also: I think her hair looks great, I like the yellow gold earrings and her bejeweled red poppy (for veterans).

Angelina did a sit-down interview with Britain’s ITV News at Ten, which aired yesterday. She was asked point-blank if she would enter politics and she said she would “if I felt like I could really make a difference.” You can see part of the interview here. Some highlights:

On Pres. Obama’s handling of the Syria crisis: “I’m not here to criticize or pass judgment on a particular leader, including my own President, but I will say that we have overall a failing of international leadership when we have 51 million people displaced from conflict. More people displaced than since after World War II, when we have completely open-ended conflicts, when we have crises like Syria. We seem to be completely unable to handle it and make ground and help all of the people who are starving and dying at the moment – and Syria is just one of many.”

The UN & other organizations need to do more: “I think it’s important not to discount the good work being done but I think clearly, if you look around the world you can say we are simply not doing enough. When something happens our ability to respond and our ability to deal with it is far too little and far too late.”

Her UN work: “I’ve always gone wherever I felt I was needed. When I started working with the UN, I felt I loved working in the field and I felt I was useful in the field and then there was a point where I realised that I was only so useful in the field because someone had to go to Washington and plea the case.”

The worst part about being married to Brad? “Oh, there’s nothing. He’s really a great person. He’s human, I’m human but where it counts, he’s a great man.”

Whether she wants to see a woman president: “I think a great leader is a great leader and I simply would not ever say that this would be better because it’s a man or better because it’s a woman. What we really need now is great leadership and I’m hoping that person rises forward.”

On Hillary Clinton: “I think just because she’s a woman you shouldn’t assume she’s the best voice for women but just like every other voter, I will watch to see what the platform is.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Ha, I’ve always said that Angelina is probably a lot more conservative politically than people realize. But she always plays her personal political beliefs very close to the vest – she has NEVER gone on the record about party politics, the Tea Party, which party she identifies with or anything like that. Angelina has met Hillary once or twice, but several years ago, Clinton had to cancel an appearance with Angelina… probably because Hillary’s elbow was Team Aniston.

Its unusual. But I like it. It looks regal.

  2. lower-case deb says:

wow Miyavi looks like a male runway model, down to that haughty look. quick! hide him away from Choupette!

btw. saw it on Twitter, Miyavi’s mom was there at the premiere watching her son do press rounds. her body language looks like a proud mama. she’s adorable.

  3. Ag says:

i like the back of it way more than the front – the buttons are a very nice detail.

    • bella says:

      i agree.
the back is much more interesting and youthful.
      i don’t know…
for an incredibly gorgeous woman, her style is always all kinds of NO.
as one or 2 other posters have said…
      her “style” ages her.
anyone remember how she was dressed in Mr. & Mrs. Smith?!
      THAT was gorgeous.
      her hair, her clothes…
all of it accentuated her beauty.
ange should hire whoever that costume designer was.

      • Azurea says:

She shoud wear more delicate shoes, as her legs are so spindly….the clunkier shoes plus that hem length on her does call to mind a much older woman.

    • doofus says:

I was thinking the exact same thing. I do not like this much at all, but the buttons are cool.

I think it’s a bit too “matronly” for her…like it’s something that Queen E would wear. I also think her eye make up is too much. I really don’t like that HEAVY kohl look on anyone. But her skin looks great (as always) and I love that poppy pin.

    • Luca76 says:

Yeah I agree the about the buttons in the back
she’s gorgeous but she dresses too matronly and or severe. I loved the gray Versace dress she wore last week.

    • bns says:

      Agreed.

  4. paola says:

I really dislike the shoes. Seems like she’s taking fashion tips from Dutchess Kate.
She looks ok but not gorgeous. I think this ensemble makes her look even thinnier. Her face on the other side is just perfection.

    • I thought it made her look thicker–her middle/torso isn’t thin, she’s got a pooch, and doesn’t have a waist–it defines her waist a little, but that’s about it. It’s really her arms and legs that are really thin.

    • Anny says:

Those she’s are awful. Why is everyone wearing nude heels now? She should have worn stilettos. Those heels are way too massive for her figure. Wear red next time Angie, that would look waaaaay better.

      • doofus says:

I’m one who loves her in jewel tones, too. a deep red or purple would look great, and she looks great in a royal blue.

  5. Erm says:

She’s a beautiful woman, but the eye liner is approaching Duchess Kate levels. She’s been wearing crazy amounts of eyeliner, mascara and falsies recently and I think they actually detract from her appearance.

    • Ohreallynow says:

That’s my first thought that her eye liner is worse than Duchess Kate’s!

      • Esmom says:

No one’s eyeliner is worse than Duchess Kate’s, imo. Angelina’s eye makeup might be heavy here, but it looks flawless, unlike Kate’s which usually looks just…hard to me.

      • Tania says:

No no no. Kates eyeliner looks as if she snapped the pencil in two, then applied it. Shards of uneven eyeliner everywhere. She desperately needs help with her make up.

  6. minx says:

Elegant and beautiful. Love the neckline. And her makeup looks good, it’s brighter than it has been in some recent pictures. White/cream can wash you out but she looks very pretty.

  7. Tiffany says:

Miyavi. *purrs*. Tailored and a great coat. Perfect.

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Love the front, the back, not so much.

    She is certainly tactful.

  9. Catk says:

I don’t know, I’m the exact same age and she looks gorgeous of course, but so old. She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in her UNICEF years. When she was 60.

    • minx says:

IMO it’s the updo hair and the clothes for this particular event. I think she wanted to look a certain way and maybe erred on the side of simple elegance, which isn’t a bad way to go.
She might want to gain a pound or two because it flatters your face the older you get.

    • Santia says:

This! She looks elegant and beautiful – if she were 60. She has the body and youth to pull off some more daring/fashionable looks; she should do it.

    • V4Real says:

Lately she has been hitting it out of the park but she struck out with this one. She’s still a beautiful woman but this look ages her. Maybe it’s the make-up.

    • Bear says:

It is a little aging, but I think that’s actually to her advantage here. Gives her some gravitas.

    • lucy2 says:

That’s what I was thinking – it’s kind of matronly. I’d have to say Gwenyth’s full cape was more interesting and edgy to me than this caplet dress, which looks like something Queen Elizabeth would wear (not a compliment).

      • RobN says:

My first thought was that it was kind of Queen Elizabethy. Very matronly but appropriate for a queen, kind of odd on a woman in her 30’s.

    • DenisePayne says:

You know..i get saying someone style is old…or that she dresses mature…but trying to say someone who has a flawless youthful beautiful face like that looks 60 is just the height of women cannibalizing themselves out of pure jealous evil.

You might unthinkingly be willing to usher in your own obsoleteness/shelf life/expiration date for the satisfactory feeling of knifing an IMAGINED beautiful rival in the gut…but in the long run you’re doing nothing but gnawing your own arm off at the elbow.

So no…Jolie doesn’t look 60 – but while promoting her film that she directed at a gala big premiere in the UK (where she was just made a dame) and for which she needs to promote tastefully with the respect the subject matter deserves is going for subdued and mature not sexy…that doesn’t mean her face has been ravaged by age…her face is smooth flawless and young..not old..which is what u want to meangirl imply.

      • idontknowyouyoudontknowme says:

She might not look 60, but regardless you cannot argue that there are many people (not just style-wise, but really skin/features/body who look waaaaay younger at the same age as her).

I understand that she cannot be anything less than flawless in the eyes of fans, but I think its quite childish to always bring up jealousy and evilness even when people are calling a spade a spade….She is 39 years old, even J.lo looks younger than her at 45 (even without make-up!). Also note, that being more youthful/smooth looking doesn’t necessarily mean beautiful. Looking older/mature is not necessarily a put-down,…..

      • Jenny says:

I understand saying the dress is mature, but I’m not sure if I would agree with matronly. I think it looks beautiful and very demure. Angie looks beautiful. I know it is not popular to say, but I think her extreme thinness ages her. A lot of actresses with her body type (slender limbs, but not so defined in the waist) end up getting too thin. I think even 5 or 7 lbs would be a big improvement.

  10. Tiffany27 says:

I think I read somewhere where Brad said he’s the Liberal and she’s the Conservative. I could be wrong though.

    • lisa2 says:

      no he never said that..

I think she is like most people.. Liberal on some issues and Conservative on others.

    • Maria says:

Once on Bill Maher, Brad was asked what he and Angie argue about, his first response: politics.

Then, he tried to play it off but his face had an “oh ish” expression and he’s NEVER mentioned Angie’s political leanings since.

She’s a conservative, call it a gut feeling.

I’m sure she and Mama Pitt have more in common politically than she and Brad.
I like her Clinton response because, truth be told, I myself will probably not vote if she’s my choice…

I don’t like her answer regarding a female president, tho I agree the best candidate is what matters, there’s something to how she said it that irks me…

Clearly, this isn’t the forum to discuss that.

As for the dress, it looks much better on the runway, it’s meant for someone who’s hour glass or even pear shape, not apple.

      • Luca76 says:

Funny my gut feeling is that she’s much more liberal than people think. Jon Voight has hinted a few times that they disagree on politics and once said she’s much more like her mother in her views. I’d bet she supports candidates that no one has heard of. I think some of the causes she supports like Legal Aid for immigrant detainees and LGBT rights signal that she’s probably more of a left of center.

      • lower-case deb says:

was that the one where Brad said they had different, very dissimilar views about the death penalty?

      • Janet says:

I have a feeling she’s quite conservative on the death penalty but more liberal on other issues.

    • DenisePayne says:

Nope Brad said they are pretty much on the same page but that have areas where they disagree. ..Angie thinks the death penalty is warranted for some heinous crimes while Brad is against. Her father Jon Voight also recently made some comment about her playing his conservative pal Michelle.Bachman in a movie but said Jolie does not share her politics. So there u have it.

  11. Naddie says:

She looks serious, conservative and lovely. And the last dude all in black is hot!

  12. Kitten says:

She looks polished and professional. I like her style as of late.

    • Chris2 says:

      Me too Kitten.
I don’t think age aporopriate/ageing has anything to do with style at this level….either it’s chic or it isn’t. I enjoy her RC/event looks, there’s always something to ‘read’ there, but very low key.

  13. I sort of hated the look when I first saw it, but now that I look at it more, I love it. I wish she’d gone with red shoes, or some red rubies/diamonds….or even emeralds to go with the white/cream of her dress. But I think it was her nod to the armed forces…..

I love the way she’s doing her premieres…..having inspirational people and/or military veterans. I’m sure they’re all thrilled to go and honor one of their own. Have any other directors ever done something like this? I’ve never heard/ever paid attention to it, so I don’t know.

    • lower-case deb says:

Brad did it for Fury. he supported Prince Harry’s Wounded Warrior/Invictus program and then invited tank veterans and from other service branches to the premieres.

in Washington, Colin Powell came out to support him, and a serviceman sung a great rendition of the national anthem.

they also went and gave a special screening at the Army tank school in DC (i think). also, veterans and servicepeople get to watch Fury for free on Veteran’s/Remembrance day.
(meanwhile, proceeds from some of Unbroken screenings will go to charities like Soldier On and RBL, amongst others)

at least that’s what i learned from reading gossip sites.

    • Jenny says:

Pretty much every movie that is about military people or has military people in it has military people show up to the premieres. St. Angie isn’t the first one.

      • lisa2 says:

Did she say or imply that she is the first person to invite or have military personal at a premiere.. NO she didn’t.. All the St Angie talk is only done by nonfans..

I guess you all have to have a way to identify yourselves.

      • Oh wow, woke up on the wrong side of the bed? All I was commenting on was that I hadn’t seen military people so prominently displayed at a movie premiere–not that I could remember, and asked if anyone else remembered some films where it happened. It was a question, with no ulterior motive.

    • Tarsha says:

Jenny, no one calls her ‘St. Angie’ apart from the haters, please get over it. It is so immature.

      • Jenny says:

lol I’m not really a hater. I just think Angelina fans are a special breed of crazy, acting like she’s god’s gift to the planet.

      • Onthefly says:

Oh God. A person can be great in every sense of the term, but does that mean he or she’s above all criticism/comment? Also you do realize this is a gossip site? Jenny’s entitled to her opinion without others pouncing on her for having it.

      • Tarsha says:

Jenny I honestly have NEVER seen any fan of Angelina’s, not one, who thinks she is God’s gift to the planet. Not one. So I’m not even sure where you get that from, either. Defending her from attacks isn’t worship. Tonnes of other celebrities fans do that all the time, why don’t they get the same flack? I know a few fan groups of other celebs who are far far worse.

    • doofus says:

YES, red shoes would have been awesome! the little bit of red from the poppy pin is such a nice detail, and I think that red shoes would have added a nice touch as well.

  14. Phenix says:

Miyavi is so amazingly gorgeous – he looks like something from another planet. So beautiful!

  15. LK says:

Ack no. It’s like a breastfeeding decoy thingy.

  16. Erm says:

    And Miyavi.. Wow.

  17. Jayna says:

She made comments years ago saying she is a registered Independent.

“I think people assume I’m a Democrat. But I’m registered independent and I’m still undecided. So I’m looking at McCain as well as Obama.”

    • Charlie says:

I can’t imagine someoen like her ever voting Republican. I just can’t.

      • Lorelai says:

I lost respect for her when she said that because anyone that wasn’t sure who to vote for at thst point was either an idiot or not paying attention. She’s always “ON.”

    • Francesca says:

      Refreshing.

    • original kay says:

      << is Canadian.

what do you mean "registered"? do you, in the USA, have to declare your political beliefs or something, register them?
      Here, we just vote.
      Thanks for any info!

      • doofus says:

you do have to register with a party…Republican, Democrat or Independent…in order to be eligible to vote.

different states have different laws on who can vote for whom in a primary. for example, here in NJ, a Repub can only cast a vote for one of the repubs, a Dem can only cast a vote for one of the Dem candidates, etc. but in the General Election, you can vote for whichever candidate you want to.

in other states, however, you can “cross” party lines to vote for whomever you want to in the primary.

      • original kay says:

        Thank you 🙂

I am thinking this is to vote for whom would lead the party itself? Like, if I wanted to have a say whom the Liberals have as the leader, I would register with them in order to vote, as opposed to just voting in the general election.
I get it, thanks so much. I’ve never felt the need to do that, register to vote within a party.

      • DenisePayne says:

Original Kay, you do NOT have to register as a member of any party to be able to vote. I’m not a registered dem, but I usually almost always vote dem or progressive.

Years ago when Angelina was doing her best to lobby both sides of the aisle to get legislation important to the causes she believed in (child refugee asylum and immigration, was one – which she helped pass, and went on to found KIND with Paul Allen of Microsoft) she said she had registered as an Independent so she wouldn’t get pegged and get the doors on capitol hill slammed in her face – also, because it was most likely true.

But it’s clear her politics are more liberal in general. Her dad just recently said so.

      • notasugarhere says:

It would make more sense to register as “unaffiliated” seeing as Independent is a political party. She may be more liberal on some things, but I think she has made statements about death penalty, fiscal conservatism, and gun rights that don’t put her left of center.

      • Esmom says:

Actually you don’t have to register any affiliation in order to vote. And you don’t have to be a registered Democrat to vote in a Democratic primary (or a Republican to vote in a Republican primary), you just can’t vote in both primaries in the same cycle.

  18. Amcn says:

Gorgeous. She really stood out with all the dark military uniforms around her. Very elegant and perfectly suited the occasion.

It seems everything she says in interviews is picked apart and expanded upon and she is very careful in her answers always. I like that she added how “human” her and Brad are.

  19. Maya says:

Looking gorgeous as usual and now the trend will follow with others trying to copy Angelina.

For the record – Hillary is not team Aniston. Angelina and Hillary are actually friends which Bill confirmed at a fund raiser years ago.

Unbroken is getting good reviews from the audience. I have seen several good tweets about how great this movie is.

    • lower-case deb says:

one of the more ‘fascinating’ review for me is the one that calls the film “great but too polite”. it cracks me up for some reason.

  20. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

Is she going for scrawny and sinewy? Channelling Wallis Simpson? If so, this is a win.

    • norah says:

actually she is going for elegant and demure – and since apparently london is cold very suitable clothing

  21. Even if Unbroken turns out to be horrible, we should all get down on our knees and thank her for introducing us to Jack O’Connell. God, I’m smitten. He seems so naughty, in a Colin Farrell way (but less drunk)……he always looks like he’s about to smirk because he did something…naughty. Haha. He’s definitely going on the hit list.

    • lower-case deb says:

i pray that Jack will find you. i love the idea of you going on a date with Jack. better than him with Cara.

      PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN VIRGILIA!

  22. Toot says:

I love Angelina’s interviews. She so interesting. She also looks lovely at the premiere. Jack and Miyavi look so handsome.

  23. Jenny says:

That picture of her and Jack O’whatshisface standing next to each other is so awkward I can barely look at it.

her dress is ok if super boring, as usual.

    • Kitten says:

      It is super-awkward.

No offense to Angie, but I’ve been staring at that picture and blocking her out with my hand because Jack by himself looks sexy.

  24. Mar says:

    She looks 55 here

  25. scout says:

She looks best and elegant when her skirt hem is just on the knees. Love the color and design, skirt length could have been little shorter. Brad better be organizing for Thanksgiving when and if Angie goes back home tomorrow. If not, somebody slap him for me for all the drama on that balcony in Australia to make her sad!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, have fun and be good to your family.

  26. serena says:

Miyavi is so cool! I wish they would give him more attention..

  27. Dallas says:

Four breadsticks poking out of a flour sack…. Not a good look, but thankful she added some butt padding!!

  28. Vava says:

Not a fan of this ensemble. Although the back is rather unique, I just don’t think this is very becoming for a couple of reasons. 1) I think Angie should wear sleeved garments to cover her arms. (Is she healthy???) 2) Her eye makeup is over-the-top. 3) A colored shoe would have been ideal, I rather like the runway version with black suede and also a red (as mentioned by a previous poster) would have been wonderful, too.

Have to admire her tactfulness when it comes to politics. Thumbs up for that!

  29. Beatrice says:

Beautiful dress and so elegant; however, it really ages her. It would be more appropriate for someone 50+. But truthfully, Angelina is so gorgeous she can pull off almost any look.

  30. bns says:

I can’t believe she’s not even 40 yet. Fun fact: she and Drew Barrymore are the same age.

    • Beep says:

Drew Barrymore has aged a bit since having kids. I was surprised the last time I saw pix of her but she’s still cute, I guess.

  31. Anny says:

Good look from the front, way too fussy from behind. I mean I like the buttons but there is way too much going on from behind. But I like the top, she looks better with covered shoulders. I think she looks bad in strapless dresses. This is way better. Elegant, simple and cool. As for the shoes – I don’t hate them. But it would look even better if she wore more colourful shoes.

Something about her just looks off to me. I can’t put my finger on it but she looks…hard to define…tired, exhausted, ill…not really sure. Just off.

    • maddelina says:

Sad eyes! I don’t think this is a happy person and I’m not saying that to be mean. It’s the first thing I noticed. Beautiful big sad eyes. She is stick thin too. Scary!

    • Anny says:

It is definitely worrisome. I noticed she looks sad too. I hope whatever she is dealing with (and I obviously don’t know at all whether she is having any issues or not, I don’t know her, just commenting on her look) will be okay in the end. Maybe she is just exhausted and needs some time to unwind. I don’t believe she has issues in her relationship despite those photos of her and Brad fighting. She might just be a type of person that stops eating during stressful times. Who knows. I just hope she is (will be) okay. She is essentially a good person and she deserves to be content in her life.

      • doofus says:

the other day I had attributed her looking “haggard” (let’s be honest, can she ever look TRULY “haggard”? lol) to being exhausted.

she’s directing/starring in a movie that (I think?) just wrapped, is promoting THIS movie (all over the world), and is also a parent to six kids. I’d be more amazed if she didn’t look tired. I hope she takes a nice long vaca at her chateau and eats a lot of heavy French food and drinks a lot of wine.

  32. Astrid says:

Love the dress, hate the shoes. Team Angie

  33. pnichols says:

Too much eye make up. Love the dress. But I am SO OVER THE NUDE SHOES.!!!!!

  34. Eleonor says:

No I don’t like it, I was in love with the grey Versace.
    I like the shoes.

  35. Dawn says:

I think the word is appropriate plus it looks good!

  36. Brittney B says:

I’m always surprised by your comments about Angie being a closet (or at least, not outright) conservative. I don’t necessarily think she’s gung-ho about Obama or Hilary at this point, but I would think she’s more progressive than anything else. I agree she plays it close to the vest, but mostly because party alignment is polarizing, and she wants politicians and diplomats to be as receptive as possible to her humanitarian efforts.

“Fiscally conservative” in the U.S. is usually about scaling back government assistance and social welfare programs, and we already know how she feels about that. She’s a wealthy woman who probably understands both sides of the tax cut debate, but she has also seen immense devastation firsthand, both stateside (it doesn’t get much worse than the Ninth Ward) and overseas (ditto border-country refugee camps). She understands that the least privileged people are institutionally incapable of “pulling themselves up” out of it, and that it’s up to the privileged to do something about it. I mean, that’s literally the entire narrative of her adult life: recognizing her own privilege and making herself useful to people who need help.

Meanwhile, “socially conservative” carries some restrictive views on women’s reproductive rights and sexual orientation/gender identity. Angelina has always been open about her fluid sexuality and allowed her children to shun gender roles, and again, she’s seen firsthand how crucial women’s health care is to the stability and progress of entire communities and countries. I’d even argue that she knows the downside of the “war on drugs” and the disproportionate effects that our prison industrial complex has on children and minorities.

Maybe I’m just generalizing, though. I’d be genuinely curious to hear the argument for Angie supporting conservative causes (though I wouldn’t be surprised if she refused to support the Democratic party as a whole). Is it just a militarization thing?

    • doofus says:

nice post…I agree…I can’t see her as a conservative/republican for exactly the reasons you (so eloquently) stated.

and I agree that she plays it close because of her involvement in humanitarian issues.

    • CuriousCole says:

Brittany B – The squalor of Pine Ridge Reservation gives the Ninth Ward a run for the (lack of) money. Lots of reservations are nearly as bad. I like your balanced assessment of her probable views. I think an argument for Angie supporting conservatives would be they tend to commit troops and resources overseas for aide more often, which is a desire she frequently expresses.

I really enjoyed your comment. It was really well thought out!

  37. Lucy says:

I’m calling it: Miyavi is the Asian equivalent of Eddie Redmanye.

  38. Twinkle says:

It’s a gorgeous dress. It’s very reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn. Very demure and sophisticated.

  39. Ari says:

I was like meh seen her in that for her global work a lot but then I saw the back and was like DAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM hell yes gorgeous and I love her so much always

  40. RobN says:

What is with the current trend of men wearing suits that appear to be a size too small? It always reminds me of my mom trying to get one more Christmas out of my brother’s good clothes because she didn’t want to buy something he’d grow out of right away. Especially on small guys like Jack, it just makes you look tiny.

  41. khaveman says:

Stunning design, but I’d rather it was a little warmer color.

  42. dawnchild says:

I’ve come to like Angelina and I like what she says more than what she wears.
BUT…isn’t this a bit pope-y? I don’t love any of this…too many buttons and bows and stuff on the back too…

  43. Chris2 says:

Can I join with another ^^^ and wish you all a lovely Thanksgiving? It always makes me smile, as a festival.
    • about Angelina’s careful political remarks: she reminded me about how many people voted Conservative in the crucial 1979 UK general election, purely to vote for a woman, out of solidarity.
The triumphant Margaret Thatcher was a woman, obvs, but we soon learned, if we didn’t already know, that she was no sister!

  44. Peppa says:

I don’t really understand the narrative in all these articles that Angie would eat Jack O’Connell alive or that they would have had some hot relationship if this were ten years prior. First of all, that is some insane speculation and secondly I think it degrades her as a director. Would we say that about a man director and his female star? I would hope not. She is a professional doing a job, not a man eating predator. I’m sorry, but these comments on every article about them have been bothersome. I don’t really think he is all that hot myself *kanye shrug* I do like this dress. Yeah, it might age her, but I think she is going for a certain regal look. I personally love caplets, so I guess I’m biased. Miyavi is gorgeous!

  45. kri says:

Miyavi is just…oooh. He’s more beautiful than my cat, and almost as cool. (No one tell my cat, please). Wow, what a stunning human being. As for AJ, I like the look, it’s a seriousmovie/ event, so I get it. Only think I don’t like is the shoe game. I’m not playing with nude, shiny, chunky heels. If I want that, I can just look at KK’s hooves.

  46. BendyWindy says:

Great dress. Terrible, terrible, matronly shoes.

  47. anne_000 says:

I think the longer cape version from the runway version looks better. I think AJ’s cape is too short. I think the embroidery looks better than the plain though it can look too bridal. Overall, I’m glad AJ wears age appropriate and classy clothes than other famous (and older) women who wear clothes fit for someone 20 years younger and maybe 20 pounds lighter (Mariah, JLo, Madonna, etc).

  48. Janet says:

Forget Jack O’Connell, gimme some Miyavi. Yum-O!

  49. sarah says:

Now I’m curious to hear if Angelina Jolie considers herself a feminist. Something about the way she answered the female President question irks me.

    • Anny says:

I am a feminist but I don’t have any issues with the way she answered the question. I mean it’s always good for any country to have a good leader no matter the gender. My country had presidential elections with public vote for the first time in our modern history last year and there were female candidates but I couldn’t support them because they just weren’t good enough. I root for Hillary in American elections though (I just like her. I don’t know everything about her – issues, scandals et al. but I just root for her). But when you don’t really have a suitable female candidate you just cannot support someone just because of his/her gender.
Public presidential elections are just exhausting by the way. We ended up with an alcoholic and a sociopath. Apologies in advance to any country that is subjected to his state visit.

  50. Cindy says:

She looks beautiful. I love the back and the buttons.

  51. Jonesy says:

She looks like she’s channeling a 50-ish Joan Crawford here. Maybe it’s the crazy eyes. Any minute I expect her to start screaming, “no wire hangers!”

  52. Grant says:

I hate it. Her shoe game is, as always, horrid.

  53. LaurieH says:

I think it’s beautiful – very Jackie O-ish (a style that I absolutely adore). It reminds me of some of the outfits she wore in The Tourist… a much-panned movie (I didn’t think it was bad), but the scenery and her outfits were beautiful. I rather like the way Jolie dresses; understated and neutral with minimum accessories. Yeah, some dresses are rather sack-like, but when you have the body shape of a stick, you can get away with it.

  54. Camille (The Original) says:

I like it, it’s very timeless.

  55. AntiSocialButterfly says:

It’s pretty enough, though a little bland. Definitely interesting from the back. I hate the heels, though. I also think her eye makeup is a little harsh with a blindingly white dress with her pale skin.

  56. Jordan says:

Kind of sacky, but she’s so gorgeous, she really could wear a sack and get away with it.

  57. MinnFinn says:

Very chic! It’s always fun and so interesting to see how a master stylist coordinates an outfit. I’d love to pick the brain of A’s stylist to learn why s/he chose those shoes and why they wanted a shorter cape etc.

    • Nya says:

No one dressing Angelina would ever be considered a “master stylist” because when she doesn’t look boring she looks a hot mess.

  58. Deedee says:

I think the runway version was more youthful and elegant in appearance that AJ’s and I preferred the black hose and shoes, too. The back, I think, is hideous except for the pearls.

  59. Georganna says:

the tattoos make her look cheap. Isn’t that her ex-girlfriend dressed like a man?

    • Tarsha says:

Lame and homophobic. But what do we expect from multi-nic cowards who don’t even have the guts to post under their regular nic?

  60. Sue says:

She really is coping Kate M.

    • Tarsha says:

Lame from a cowardly multi-nicer. Considering Kate M has NEVER worn a dress even *remotely* like that, its desperate and a pathetic attempt at trolling.

  61. PollyPop says:

Those legs, that flat butt. Damn she needs to eat.

    • embee says:

I don’t know about her, but it really pisses me off when someone says I need to eat. Just as s rude as calling someone fat and telling them they need to lose weight. Some of us are naturally skinny

  62. Debutante says:

Awful . This dress Screams funky nun or 78 year old matron.

  63. Debutante says:

The original runway look was much chicer. Why couldn’t she have just gone with that ? It looked so much better that way.!!

  64. hanie says:

    Wow…
Miyavi looks good and beautiful, like always~
Looking at Miyavi’s pic makes me miss the good old days during his visual kei with DLQ. He was so beautiful, and I’m stanning him hard.

I wish AJ moved on from that nude shoes.

  65. Catriona says:

I like it! I would have preferred a longer length on the dress and a different back but she makes it work

  66. shizwhat says:

Love love love love love love. Dressed like a lady.

  67. Kate Bush says:

I preferred the runway version. This looks far too conservative for someone her age. It is hard to believe she is under 40 but I think extreme thinness is ageing. I loved her two previous outfits especially the black and white lace dress soo pretty, that would have made a great wedding dress IMHO.

  68. Mary Jane says:

    Another AWFUL dress…
That Miyazi fellow though; what a stylish bloke!

  69. none says:

    The tatoos ruin it.
