John Legend on meeting Chrissy: ‘I wasn’t like, This is the woman I’m gonna marry’

John Legend

John Legend covers the December issue of Los Angeles Confidential mag to talk about music and Grammys. He won the AMA last week for Favorite Male Artist Soul/R&B (beating out Tantrum Brown and Pharrell Williams). John has nine Grammys unders his belt, and he’ll probably win more next year (if his current album is still eligible).

John talks about his wife of one year, Chrissy Teigen. She recently posted a photo of him in the shower on Instagram. It’s a cute pic, and you can see a hint of Legend booty. Chrissy keeps John on his toes, but he reveals that it wasn’t love at first sight for him seven years ago:

Was it love at first sight? “Not right away. I’m more cautious than that. I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry’ from day one. For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever.”

[From LA Confidential]

Chrissy’s already talked about how she and John got together for keeps. She said they hooked up right away, and then she “left him by himself for a while. I played it cool for a long time.” She didn’t want to scare him away or try and lock him down, which is a wise move. John could have his pick of groupies, Chrissy made sure to keep him guessing about her. It worked. I bet they’re going to have kids soon. Chrissy’s made no secret about wanting several mini-Legends running around the house.

I live in Saint Louis and I have been up all night! Maybe that’s why he is annoying me as well lol I need a nap!

John Legend has never made a bad record. The guy is so talented. I love him. I also love that he seems to accept Chrissy as she is and seems to get a kick out of her. She met him when he had hit that super stardom, and he probably wasn’t anywhere close to getting married nor on his mind. So I get what he’s saying. Timingwise he probably had no thought of settling down and marriage, but he met Chrissy and she was chill and had her own thing going and the relationship just developed at its own pace commitmentwise. They’ve been together long enough that it’s not marrying off of that complete in lust new love feeling, but marrying each other after having a relationship that grew and evolved and just got stronger bondwise. That girl certainly loves her man, though.

You need to get past the honeymoon phase before you can know if you can be with someone forever. That can take a few years. Sometimes the lust and attraction can cover up the real problems in your relationship, and when that starts to wane, and you are still madly in love, you may have found the one.

Isn’t she the one who gave him an ultimatum before he proposed? As I recall, she basically said, to the media no less, “If he doesn’t propose by such and such a time, I’m moving on.” It apparently worked for her, but that was not being laid back in any way.

I find her approach direct though. I figured maybe if Jon Hamm’s girlfriend actually directed an ultimatum, he’d marry her or at the very least stay faithful to her?

The girlfriends who wait around trying to guess what the guy will do kind of perplex me a little bit. Although sometimes that approach works too? (i.e. Kate Middleton — but she was very young when they met, so her waiting around wasn’t necessarily that strange if you discard the cheating rumors about William).

I have to say that I LOVE them both, especially as a couple. I really like Chrissy, she always seems authentic, which is important. I think they make a great couple…..no way do they annoy me, nor do I find them irritating or unpleasant in any way. They are so happy together and both have their own careers. LOVE John’s music and he is definitely a gentleman. Kudos to them both, they make perfect sense as a couple!!

She annoys me, but John is a pure miracle in my eyes. I don’t even like R&B. His songs are so not soulless rubbish.

I think she’s just on the wrong side of that fine line between brash and charming vs plain trashy. With her Twitter and swearing and in your face ness. Amazing bod, though. I don’t like his music but he seems like a nice guy.

They are on my split list.
