Duchess Kate wants to see the Statue of Liberty & the Rockettes while in NYC

wenn21904435

Everyone is getting geared up for Duchess Kate and Prince William’s trip to New York, which is only days away now. I think they’re going to be in America for less than 72 hours, but I’m looking forward to lots of costume changes and hopefully some great photo-ops. William’s schedule is packed, and he’s even making a day trip to Washington. Kate’s separate schedule is a little bit lighter, and I’m hoping that her people schedule some sight-seeing or even, yes, some shopping. People Magazine’s “source” claims that Kate is just dying to check out the Statue of Liberty!

When Princess Kate and Prince William arrive in New York City Dec. 7 for a three-day trip, they’ll embark on a hectic schedule that leaves little time for sightseeing. Still, a friend of the royal family tells PEOPLE, Kate, is hoping to catch some of New York’s top tourist attractions. “Somebody told me that Kate would like to see the Statue of Liberty or the Rockettes while she is here,” the friend says.

Soon after arriving at their base at the swanky Carlyle hotel on the city’s Upper East Side, Kate and William will attend a private dinner with the leading lights of the Royal Foundation, before a packed day Monday that ends with a trip to Brooklyn to watch a Brooklyn Nets basketball game. Neither Kate nor William, both 32, have been to New York before. R. Couri Hay, a New York society publicist, predicts Will and Kate will cause quite a stir in the Big Apple.

“She is so relatable, but has that glamour and sparkle,” Hay tells PEOPLE. “They will create a frenzy that could match Princess Diana’s [past] visits.”

[From People]

R. Couri Hay must be BFFs with Will and Kate’s new American PR guy, right? I’m always suspicious when I read those kinds of quotes. Anyway, I hope Kate does get to check out the Statue of Liberty. People Mag says that one of their first stops is going to be to Ground Zero, although I’m kind of doubting that they spend hours at the memorial, you know? Oh, and People confirms: Prince George is not coming. As I said, they’re probably worried that George would punch Mayor De Blasio in the face.

As for protocol when us Yanks meet Will and Kate, People Mag has another article about how they prefer to be addressed (sir, ma’am, Your Royal Highness), but sources also say they’re not sticklers for protocol. Which is good news, because I doubt anyone is going to be bowing, curtsying or using the proper titles. They’ll be lucky to get, “YO, WAITY!! HEY, BALDY!” Speaking of, Time Magazine had a convoluted write-up about how the American press treats royalty (like a version of celebrity) versus how the British press treats royalty (derision, humor). I’m not sure what the author’s point is?

Last thing: some downmarket tabloid claims that Kate is at war with Duchess Camilla! Apparently, Kate and William are largely avoiding the Queen’s Christmas festivities because they don’t want to be around Camilla. Kate and Camilla have apparently been fighting for “months” and “it’s gotten so bad lately that the Duchess can’t stand to be in the same room as Prince Charles’ wife.” Kate cannot stand the “toadying” behavior of Camilla towards the Queen. As in, Camilla is sucking up to the Queen and Kate thinks it’s gross. Hm… I’ve always thought that Kate and Camilla get along pretty well, so I don’t know what to tell you.

Everyone should see the Statue of Liberty and the Rockettes once in their lives. For different reasons, of course.

Wouldn’t a 72 hour trip to the US from the UK be exhausting? What’s the purpose of this trip? The charity?

    • Natalie says:

Someone should keep track of how much time they spend as tourists versus working, with a third category for overlapping events like the MET gala and the basketball game.

      • Pippa Mids says:

        Shady perception,

Arriving in NY late eve to dark sure make this questionable trip for a royal PW even more shady looking.

Doolittle is the first public comment a month ago, how she wpuld like to visit NY ( ma carole PR to pressure Will to have Waity along – re Jecca).

But they both look even more phony than before, body language is so off.

      • Pippa Mids says:

        Questionable visit –

Waity sooo HG sick (pregnant) yet making this long trip, but won’t be fit for HM and royals Christmas.

PC/CH also Intervening, for PW. , asking the Prez to receive Willnot – make visit look better for HM. QM and QEl would be very disappointed!

Waity and Willnot fight seems ongoing.

    • kcarp says:

I think it would be but they probably fly one a plane that has a bed and all sorts of perks.

I would go see the Statue of Liberty and the Rockettes too.

    • Megan says:

I was six years old when I went to NYC for the first time. We went to the Macy’s Day Parade, the Rockettes and the Statue of Liberty. I will never forget how much I loved all of it.

    • ArtHistorian says:

I really really want to visit NY. I probably won’t visit the Statue of Liberty but then I’ve never visited the Eiffel Tower when in Paris. I’d go straight to the Guggenheim and then hit the Met, MoMa and the Frick Collection. NY has so many awesome art museums.

I’d definitely try to go to the theatre or the ballet as well.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •ArtHistorian•

Sounds like a plan. When are we going? 😊

And then we can go to London & Paris (Sweden & Denmark too).

      • ArtHistorian says:

        A Grand Tour! 🙂

      • Vava says:

I visited the Statute of Liberty and quite honestly it wasn’t all that exciting, particularly since I only had 3 days there and I pretty much spent a whole day going there and Ellis Island. There are more interesting places to go, IMO.

        Yeah to the museums.

I think having a cocktail at the King Cole Room at the St. Regis is also in order. (Maxfield Parrish). 🙂

      • ArtHistorian says:

Cocktails are always in order, daarhling.

I do love visiting places with a special historical value – like drinking Richard at Les Deau Magots in Paris where Hemingway came. Or Eating lunch at Café de Flore where Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre had a table.

      • Hazel says:

I’ve hit all those museums, in one trip, no less! But here’s one of my all-time favorites: the Tenement Museum, down on Orchard Street.

  2. Loopy says:

I would like to visit NY in the Christmas period they are so festive just like London but its been a while since I’ve been in cold weather. I can’t imagine Kate having serious bad blood with anyone she seems so passive.

    • notasugarhere says:

See stories of the York princesses, Chelsy Davy, the fellow student William was dating when he started sleeping with Middleton behind her back, Isabella Calthorpe, and any woman who ever looked at William when Kate Middleton was in the room…

      • Loopy says:

Yes i know the ‘stories’ but it is hard to imagine, she seems passive and very submissive towards her hubby. But maybe she takes it on the women around her to compensate.

      • Kiki04 says:

I see her as more passive aggressive……she looks like she can be pretty b*tchy when she wants to be.

      • FLORC says:

        Loopy
There are more pro Kate stories sayng about the same. That she’s submissive to William, but when he’s gone she is all business. That she has full days and does want to be addressed as her title allows. Anti and pro Kate stories say the same so it’s worth assuming she’s not so passive.
And every story gives a hint a passive aggressive nature. Especially the Harry/William ones. If a girl gave William eyes and Kate couldn’t stare her down she would befriend her. And as the stories went it was just as a friends close, enemies closer tactic (Jecca).

It was easier to find those stories a few years ago. Most are buried now.

    • someonestolemyname says:

If you want to hear about Kate’s treatment of women, there is a video on youtube of now deceased Journalist James Whitaker, who was one of the best Royal journalists in history(imo) because he didn’t pull punches and he wasn’t a sycophant kissing up to royals in his articles. On the video, a Lady, she’s known PW since he was a child and had no interest in him beyond saying Hello to her old friend, when they were all in a nightclub…well Kate was there and several of William’s old friends some women were saying hi, well Kate was in total Beeyatch mode, trying to block the ladies off, then when he let them in his space to say Hello and chat, Kate gave them total beeyatch face, daggers-eyes until they left.

One girl , her Best friend forever, Kate totally blew off her wedding, but notified the girl at the last minute because William called for that weekend, Kate hopped on train to go see him, only to find out once there, HIS Handler’s informed her, he could only see her for two hours, then he put her on the train home. So she missed her best friends wedding, dumped it last minute just because William called.

Very FEW of Kate’s friends were invited to the wedding, because she had very few left, she had DUMPED most of them. The people from Berkshire were friends with her parents and she did invite her friend whose wedding she ignored, because that girl always forgives Kate and takes whatever pickins of friendship Kate hands out. I feel sorry for that friend , she’s such a sweet person.
Also I’ll never forget that night Katie Nicholl walked in on Princess Beatrice crying in the bathroom at a club and Bea told her straight up Kate had basically been fukking with her, doing mean-girl sh8te……there was a direct Quote and Katie told How Kate did sh8te to Bea before some party and once Bea got there, Kate did a mean girl to her.

        •Someonestolemyname•

Can you post a link? Or give me the search phrase to see this video? People have referenced this interview for quite some time and I’m dying to see it.

        Thank you. 😊

    • The Original Mia says:

Kate is passive with William because she’s always been. That’s how she got the Ring of Doom. She didn’t cause waves. She accepted whatever crumbs he gave her. She put up with the cheating and the insults from his friends. That type of behavior isn’t going to end because she’s the wife because she knows she can easily become the ex-wife.

Kate doesn’t like competition for William’s attention. So…no females in his orbit are worthy of her friendship. As someonestolemyname said, Kate dumped the majority of her friends in her pursuit of William. Isn’t it funny that none of them have returned? She’s the future Queen Consort and her only female friends is her friend who she crapped on and Rebecca, her lady in waiting. As for the York princesses, she has always felt she was better than them. They will never be friends. The York princesses don’t need to be friends with her. Their position in the family is set and they have lives outside of William.

    • LadySlippers says:

Andrew Morton states in his book about W&K that Kate just ignored most of her friends for William (Morton never addresses anything about her mean-girling people). And this started fairly early on — as was her deferring to William. Friends were ecstatic when they broke up because she actually took the time to nurture those friendships again. However, it didn’t last long as William was running back to her within weeks (more because NO one was in the least bit interested in dating him). A lot of those friends just walked after the breakup. They had had enough.

      • Loopy says:

@Laydslippers ,i’m really not big on the insider stories of the couple, just read here and there so its fascinating to hear some of these tales. I am surprised you said NO ONE( i ‘m sure you don’t mean absolutely no one of course) would date him 0_o really??? The future King!!! That’s like saying the late JFK jr would have a hard time finding a wife, there is always someone ambitious/thirsty enough for people in such positions to settle down with, the list is long.

      • someonestolemyname says:

Lady Slipper’s sorry I don’t have my US computer w my old saved links, I’m traveling out of the Country, so all of my old link favorites are on my old computer. I’m pretty sure the youtube video is still there…I just can’t recall what it was labeled under on youtube…..sorry.

      • notasugarhere says:

Link doesn’t seem to get through. SSMN, was it Kate Middleton Unfit Princess?

      • someonestolemyname says:

It may have been, …. I just haven’t looked at it in years though….so can’t remember.

      • notasugarhere says:

There are short snippets of Whittaker in that one, but I cannot find the original program.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Loopy•

        Nope.

Morton was VERY clear about why William came back. No woman was willing to put up with the crap that goes with being a Royal girlfriend. Except Kate. Morton flat out said that William came back when he realised that no one wanted to date him. ‘The grass was not greener on the other side’ was the analogy Morton used.

Read or watch Harry’s interviews (even some of Charles’) for explanations but Harry’s made it clear that the vast majority of women are not interested in dating them. Even fewer want to marry them (sleeping with them yes, dating them ….maybe, marrying them h€ll no!). Frederik of Denmark and a few other princes have said essentially the same thing. Royalty is a great novelty but not something most woman want today — and with good reason.

I haven’t seen a lot of *credible* evidence Kate has mean-girled people. But Whitaker is worth digging for.

        •Someonestolemyname• •notasugarhere•

Tuck it at the back of your mind and post the link on another royal thread if need be.

        Thanks
y’all for trying to find it! 😊

      • FLORC says:

        LadySlippers
Just to add to why no one wanted to marry William….
William had some great girlfriends and maybe at least 1 would have married him, but none would put up with his cheating. In the end nearly al stated his wandering eye played a role in the break up.

And the press destroyed William in the rags for leading Kate on for nearly all of her 20’s with no proposal.

        Regarding Kate mean-girling. I had a link, but it’s a 404 page not found now… Hmmm…

      • bluhare says:

Perhaps a fairer statement would be “none of the women William met”, rather than no one at all. 🙂

      • notasugarhere says:

Philippe found Mathilde. Willem-Alexander found Maxima. Felipe found Letizia.

If William had tried (I know, too much effort), he could have found a strong woman who would take on the role and dedicate her life to the UK. Of course, he’d have to stop being a cheating man child to deserve a better woman.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •bluhare•

Ha! Take that up with Morton. Lol 😉

        •Florc•

True. The royal girlfriend is a pretty thankless role and William’s waffling and wandering eyes never helped matters. At all.

        •notasugarhere•

Also true. But they all admitted that they (the princes) had to do a lot of soul searching and growing up to convince a professional, career oriented woman they were worth it. They also admitted that a good many fantastic women walked away from them too. All I’m saying is very few people enjoy the limitations of being royal — if the man himself ain’t worth it.

        •Loopy•

Bottom line is that very few women are willing to give up so much of themselves for a man that has so many associated strings attached to him. Being a so-so boyfriend doesn’t help matters either, as almost all the princes needed to grow up and put their playboy days behind them, for their current wives to consider even dating them. Kate, for whatever reason, appeared to tolerate what others wouldn’t.

    • MinnFinn says:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A76UETwLdzM. In this video, a very short glimpse of Kate guarding William (from strangers not their friends) when they are doing a walkabout. Starts at 3:50. The captions are ridiculous so try to ignore them.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •MinnFinn•

Eh. What grabbed my attention was her hair. It looks so fake on video… And she’s playing with it WAY too often.

So can we pull out the Wiglet Wagon for the video? We really do need to take a spin in it. Also, I need to fully evaluate bluhare’s driving. 😉

      • FLORC says:

It’s all signed over to bluhare. The tea. The compartment for our tin foil hats and tin foil fascinators. The new (patent pending) wiglet wench to pull us out of ditches should we go off course. She’s got it all!

Watched the video. Those early days were wigtastic! Just from her hair then to now I can’t understand the argument there was no full wig or wiglet. And the awards in the green dress? There was a single frame out there that showed her wig tilted tot he side. Scalps don’t do that.

    • Pippa Mids says:

Passive, I agree doolittle may be when it come to dutoes work. Your forgetting recent separation living at buckleberry with ma middleton for months.
As they say ‘the fruit don’t fall far from the tree’ something like that – and ma carole middletons sure been up to her/their stalking of P Wills again especially, when doolittle not at functions. The middletons – anything to guarantee the social climbing hang on.

It’s curious Waity Doolittle want to be seen all over NY, but will be HG pregnant ‘ sick/tired’ to follow royal traditions, be with the RF as generations have done for all Christmases.

Again just like the failure of duties and respect to HMs PC and the RF.

  3. Karen says:

With all the protests going on in new York now. These two need to get a grip. More important things are happening.

Rockettes are right up waity’s flashing alley. And baldy gets to chill with LeBron and Jecca (well it’s her charity at the gala). Please tell me why they’re not celebrities? They don’t act like royals, so why bother.

    • megan says:

Of course they are celebrities. They are the newest stars of the world’s longest running reality show about a family born into incredible wealth and privilege. We get to live vicariously by oohing and awing at their fashion and jewels, turning out for their pomp and circumstance, touring their castles and palaces, and relishing the schadenfreude when they screw up and prove themselves to be fallible humans just like the rest of us.

      • bluhare says:

They may be “celebrities” but they are a future head of state and consort. That is not exactly “celebrity” material unless you consider the Queen a celebrity.

This is an interesting point, though, because I think much of the disagreement about them can come down to whether they are seen as celebrities or royals, as different standards would apply IMO.

I don’t consider them celebrities, for what that’s worth. 🙂

      • Pneuma says:

I could see David Cameron as being part of the State, but the Cambridges who do not take their jobs seriously? They are coming to America, not on state business, but to raise money for their personal charities. And to sightsee. They are not interacting with government officials, but with business people (excepting the mayor of New York City who knows all the business people). The US government is not involved in this visit at all! Personal visits seem to be in the realm of celebrity, because those are the kind of people they are courting to show up…people who get kerpluffed at someone who is a “real princess”. (childhood memories of Halloween and Disney stories)

Princess Diana was a very different figure: she dressed according to the country she was visiting (even the Queen did not show that kind of courtesy during foreign visits, previous to Diana). Diana always came as a thoughtful guest. Kate seems wholly what the royal family would wish for, someone to smile, keep quiet, and look entitled. Diana had charm and a sense of presence right from the gate. Kate…meh. She merely seems like a pleasant girl. The Queen earned respect from Americans – she *devoted* herself to Britain, in contrast to Will who wants to fly a plane, and say he is like everyone else.

Why don’t Will and Kate spend more time together, like people in love? Will seems very pompous with her, yet she does not bat an eye. Celebrities could not get away with this without a lot of side-eye. Are the “perks” of royalty really worth being lonely for a man? (Of course, I’m not saying that Will is lonely).

      • LadySlippers says:

        •bluhare•

Even the Royals themselves disagree with whether or not they are celebrities.

        •megan•

The problem is — Royals needs to be seen as people with a certain ‘gravatas’ that being a celeb alone doesn’t confer. And celebs often work their tuchas off to get that coveted gravitas.

      • Megan says:

Ummm … my comment was a joke. I was making a funny by comparing them to reality TV stars.

      • bluhare says:

As far as celebrity vs not-a-celebrity in my mind direct heirs are not celebrities. Whatever the rest want to call themselves, I don’t really care.

Royals have also said that they feel like animals in a zoo.

      • bluhare says:

Might have been a joke, Megan, but I thought it a valid point. Sorry!

      • LadySlippers says:

        •bluhare•

I’ll let YOU tell Anne you think she’s a celebrity. I ain’t having none of that! Lol

        *backs away from bluhare* 😉

        •Megan•

Ha! Totally missed that. Oh well. Still started a great discussion — so it ended well (my opinion of course). 😊

    • FLORC says:

      Karen
      Is it Jecca’s charity?

To the celebrity bit. I’ve heard both sides and think it’s an even split. Though some UK friends insist they carry all the weight of celebs and need to earn the respect of their position. Or at least be known for more than vacations, shopping, and having a baby.

Although, what seperates them from celebrities is when they faulter they can hide their indiscretions. Celebs can’t do that as well.

    • Megan says:

I believe Jecca is (or was) a volunteer on the appeals committee, which is a rather larger committee. I don’t think that makes Tusk Trust “her” charity.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Megan•

Very true. She’s still listed as a volunteer– but as you said, only one of many. Hardly ‘her’ charity.

Kate will LOVE the Makeup on the Rockettes. 😉

  6. Abbott says:

Are we sending our NYC welcome ambassador, Taylor Swift, to drive the tour bus?

  7. Sixer says:

I agreed with quite a large part of that “convoluted” article. Not all of it, but most of it. In fact, it’s one of the more perceptive articles about the British psyche and its attitude to royalty that I’ve read. Finally, an American has realised that there is much less deference and reverence for national symbols on this side of the Pond than the other!

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Sixer•

But my favourite tabloid The Globe reported that Camilla is at war with the Queen! I don’t know who to believe anymore.

      •halina•

      There, there.

      *pats halina on the back*

I’m sure The Globe is merely confused. Or perhaps mislead. I’m still patiently waiting on Camilla to give birth to the bat. Which is obviously true, right???

      *cluthches congrats card*

Shall we wait out the storm together?

      • someonestolemyname says:

I wonder how the GLOBE will spin the Camilla wears her own Family Tiara pictures… 😉

      • notasugarhere says:

Something about how it was made from the necklace given to her ancestor by her royal lover? What spin would they put on that, which is fact right?

        – Camilla barred from wearing royal tiaras by angry Queen. She’ll never wear my mother’s tiaras again Queen declares!

        – Furious at William’s cheapness, Kate Middleton demands all the royal tiaras for herself and sister Pippa

      • ArtHistorian says:

The Cubitt-Shand Tiara isn’t that tiara. Edward VII gave Alice Keppel a ruby and diamond tiara that can be used as a necklace. Camilla has worn it as a necklace in the past.

The Cubitt- Shand Tiara was a legacy of Sonia Rosemary Cubitt (née Keppel).

      • LadySlippers says:

        No no no people.

HM will get angry because Camilla beat her in mud/Jello wrestling. And THAT’S why HM will declare ‘Camilla must NEVER wear Granny’s baubles!’. HM is, of course, (according to several *reliable* sources 😉) a sore loser.

Geesh. Get the ‘facts’ straight people.

        Hehe.

    • Lisa Danielle says:

I’d like to see Camilla vs. the Queen tag teaming with Kate vs. Anne!

      • notasugarhere says:

I doubt Anne would allow Kate Middleton on her team. QM and Anne vs. Camilla and Kate Middleton?

      • Lisa Danielle says:

Not a sugar – Yes, that’s what I meant but I worded it strangely! I think Camilla might be able to take Anne but the Queen could always poke Kate with her brooches…

But being serious, I think that one reason Will and Kate don’t go to Sandringham every year like the other royals is that they believe they deserve much more respect than they do. And can you imagine Kate’s horror if she should meet Bea and Eug without Will by her side?

    • bluhare says:

I confess to an unhealthy love for The Globe and its stories. 🙂

They are so bad and so horrible they are great.

    • Megan says:

Wait … I thought Camilla was at war with George and Lupo.

      • FLORC says:

Last I heard George was at war with his mummy because he’s not getting that lab puppy. *Que George grumpy face*

      • bluhare says:

No. Lupo’s at war with one of the Queen’s corgis because Camilla’s spiking his water bowl with gin so now he’s got to go to rehab or the Queen’s going to banish him too. Part of his treatment will be making amends to the corgi. 🙂

      • FLORC says:

        Bluhare
I had a roommate that had a dog once that loved to drink. And by that I mean we’d have friends over or a party and he would knock over cups or bottles of beer and drink it. He got crafty a few times of being told “no” and being sent to time out (no toys). so he started licking the keg spout and laping out of cups without spilling. This dog loved Beer!

Although, to be clear this was in Germany so it was really good beer!

Spiking the water bowl with Gin comment brought back that memory 🙂

Bluhare, HM probably mixes gin-and-tonics for the corgis herself. They get specially cooked meals and scones, so why not Corgi Tipples as well? And judging from their history, those corgis could beat Lupo 9 times out of 10.

So much double crossing, double dealing, and backstabbing in the War of the Puppies. Are any of them named Richard?

At least the NYC protests are more peaceful than Ferguson. Right now, anyway. I wonder where she’s going to fit in a mini vacation on this trip. She’ll be there for three days, that’s a long time for her to work without a break.

I’m just grumpy this morning. I wanted to stay in bed curled up under my down comforter and ignore the snow, but it’s only Thursday so I had to go to work.

That was my thoughts. Would Kate buy out Bloomingdales like Sarah did? That was something!
I bet she does more damage than she’d be justified in doing (shops just to do so).

Agree, Waity and ma carole protecting the middletons climb and hangers on to P Will with their ‘Ring’. Carole is back to stalking Wills (present at functions Waity is absent from).

Waity and ma middleton should learn- no one mess with the monarchy or have ‘their motives’ over the RF tradition, duty to GB UK, CW and the people. They should study their history bef targeting PW at university.

Let’s hope the protest become boisterous in NYC, Waity will be locked in the hotel to protect the bump. Time will tell of these common middleton.

It takes a toady to spot a toady… Not really though, but hey, look at who we’re talking about…

Really? If this story is true, then someone from the Toady family, er Middleton Family can’t appreciate the skills of another successful toady?

If Kate were smart, and if Camilla is truly a toady which makes her one of the best around because she’s going to be Queen something-or-other next, then Kate needs to sit at Camilla’s feet and LEARN.

I can’t believe they are still coming! We effectively shut down midtownlast night after the grand jury decision and protests will continue. They won’t get anywhere near Rockefeller or Barclay Center. Well maybe if they start early. Most protests are in the evening. Ok, now I’m going to read the article.

Enough about his boring parents! Here’s a cute picture of George that I just found today. Per the strictlykate website, it was taken in March for thank-you’s to people who helped organize the AUS-NZ tour. He loves buttons just like his mommy!

Passive, I agree doolittle may be when it comes to dutoes work. But you’re forgetting recent separation living at buckleberry with ma middleton for months
    .
As they say ‘the fruit don’t fall far from the tree’ something like that – and ma carole / the middletons sure been up to their stalking of P Wills again especially, when doolittle not at functions. Carole middletons – anything to guarantee the social climbing hanging on.

It’s curious Waity Doolittle want to be seen all over NY, but will be HG pregnant ‘ sick/tired’ to follow royal traditions, be with the RF as generations have done for all Christmases.

Again just like the failure of duties and respect to HMs PC and the RF. And if the RF, subjects see more of PG (not just common middletons)
