Not only can it create the supergerms, it also has a chemical that has been linked to things like early puberty. Research it - even grade schoolers have high levels these days. Regular soap and water - soaping for at least 20 seconds - does the job better than antibacterial soap. (One article suggested having children soap while singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," because it takes about that long to sing it. When they're done singing, they then rinse their hands.) Also, exposing little ones to animals is a good thing, too, when you're building their immunities. If you don't have pets, make sure they're around cats and dogs at least some; there's research on the benefits of that as well - including having more resistence to things like hay fever later in life. She's still very young. There'll be time enough for you to 'up' her immune system by the time she's playing in the playland *shutter* or licking the slide at the playground or hanging off the dog's tail. My daughter had a playfriend when she was nearly 2 who's mom wouldn't let him touch the sand at the playground and wiped his hands every time she schwished him down the slide. That's where the overbearing de-germing comes from. This same mom would leave him in a poopy diaper to drive home from the park though??? We weren't playground friends for long. We also kept hand sanitizer around for people we knew wouldn't wash their hands well (ie: just rinse under water for a second). But I am glad we did, because when she did get her first cold at 3 months, breastfeeding was almost impossible with the stuffy nose.
