Here are some photos from last night’s People Magazine Awards, for all of the people who thought the People’s Choice Awards were too elitist and avant-garde. You can see People Magazine’s coverage of their own awards show here. Some highlights? Michael Keaton won Best Actor, Jennifer Aniston won Best Actress. Kevin Hart was named Comedy Star of the Year. Lisa Kudrow and Jon Ham won TV Performances of the Year. Karlie Kloss is Model of the Year (O RLY?) and Kate Hudson was named Role Model of the Year (O RLY?!). Kate Upton was named People’s Sexiest Woman. My favorite award was probably “Best Onscreen Couple” or whatever and they gave it to Mindy Kaling and Chris Messina. No lies detected there! Mindy and Chris have CRAZY chemistry together.
Anyway, I’m including some assorted red carpet photos in this post. The fashion wasn’t spectacular but no one really looked terrible. It was more like People Mag hosted a cocktail party and invited all of their favorite suburban-mom-approved celebrities. Some fashion IDs… Kaley Cuoco up there wore Camilla and Marc. Just my opinion: I think Kaley Felicity’d herself by cutting off her hair. She just hasn’t had the same vibe ever since the haircut.

The Felicity reference is lost on me…
It was a popular show “Felicity ” the girl had beautiful curly hair (think Julia Robert’s in Pretty Woman) then she cut her hair short and everyone thought it sucked and the show got cancelled. (In a nutshell) Lol!
She cut off all her signature curls and looked like a totally different person.
The Felicity’d (for hair) = Jennifer Grey’d (nose job)
I thought Keri Russell looked gorgeous with long OR short hair. She has such refined features that a pixie cut actually works on her.
Not on Kaley though. She needs to start growing her hair out like, yesterday.
I agree; I loved that Felicity twist. But I loved that show (was in high school then). Anyway, even though I personally liked it, I’m aware of a backlash – everyone hated it so I think it’s a fun phrase. Gee we had an argument about it at school 🙂 fun days
AGREED. She had the face for such a short cut. most women don’t. I also liked that they had her cut her hair on the show because that’s what happens when you are that age, in college and you are trying to “find” yourself, you do something crazy with your hair. My freshman year my hair was down to my butt and I chopped it to a bob.
Kaley looks older than Gwen here. She looks like a 50 year old decades ago pop star, and Gwen frankly looks 30 and gorgeous!! Is it only me that feels like kaley and Cyndi Lauper look like they could be peers??
I also loved Felicity. And her hair cut. The show lasted a couple more seasons after the cut.

The haircut just doesn’t suit her. It ages her, and I don’t think she’s aging well, and the haircut doesn’t help.

The dress on Kate uptown would have been better without the belt or maybe it needs to positioned differently? It’s giving her a tummy – kind of like a “moms Jean tummy”.

I’m sorry she has a definite “Spongebob Squarepants” vibe about her – skinny stick legs, square in the middle with a pooch. She does have a nice upfront section but that’s about it folks. I’m only complaining because she’s made the list as one of the highest paid models …and I find this fact irksome.
If you Google “Kate Upton Spongebob,” you’ll see what I mean …and you too will be irked.
I think Kate has a lovely body. Her middle is a little bigger than some, but her arms and legs are long and gorgeous.
I understand not everyone has the same ideals when it comes to body types, but comparing her to SpongeBob is pretty cruel, IMO. it isn’t as if she has major body problems (obesity, etc.), so to exaggerate the “flaws” to such an extreme just seems harsh and I wonder what message this sends to other women.
I wouldn’t go so far as to call her spongebonb square pants, but she does have a barrel shape which is a subset of rectangle shape. Google both terms. They are scientific descriptive terms for body shape. Boobs and butts don’t come into it.
It’s no shame to be a rectangle or a barrel. Most models are rectangles or inverted triangles. A rectangle is body shape where the shoulders are the same width as hips and waist. Inverted triangles is a body shape where the shoulders are wider than the hips and no distinct waist. Both sets of body shapes tend to slim limbs. A barrel shape is similar to a rectangle, but has a slightly bigger waist relative to shoulder and hips. This is what Kate Upton has.
*the other body shape types are the hourglass also known as curvy where the shoulders and hips are of the same width, but the waist is small and very cleary distinct, like the shape of an hourglass.
Triangle or spoon where the shoulders are smaller than the width of the hips like the shape of a spoon.

Hudson’s dress is pretty, but what exactly is she a role model of? Upton looks very uncomfortable, and Kaley’s hair is just odd.

Stefani’s face makes me sad!!! She was a major style icon to me in the 90s & early 2000s and I am SO sad that she looks SO different!!

I agree. GS’s teeth DO look different, now that you mention it! She used to have what looked like rather small teeth and lots of gums, and now she has a huge, toothy smile with hardly any visible gum. Her face looks much fuller, too. Not that I care. KC looks like she’s done something to her face, too. Has she always had those cheeks? I really never paid attention to any celebrity until I came on here during a bout of illness in hospital. As a suburban mom, I don’t remember anyone asking my approval. Maybe I was just doing some banal task or admiring my hackneyed interests or thinking my vapid suburban mom thoughts and forgot to answer the phone?
Really? They called me and asked my opinion on the polls. It was tough taking time away from mopping the floor, making dinner, and teaching the children how to decoupage their own treasure boxes, but it was worth it to help keep People’s integrity.

I take no offense (feminist, middle aged city soccer mom here). Kaley looks like a 40-yr-old mom trying to look like a hip version of Miley that ends up having her kids follow many stores behind in the mall.
I feel the need to point this out.
Kaley had her massive fake hair extensions cut off.
She did not cut off natural hair, that she had grown herself.
I suspect Kaley just got tired of having to deal with the nightmare of constant up keep, on the extensions. And good for her. She is a cute girl and I like her pixie cut.
I have preached this more than once. But all hair extensions, end in a pixie hair cut. There is no way to avoid it. Keep this in mind when you decide to attach store bought hair to your natural hair. (Either by weave, sewing or glue.) It always end with a pixie hair cut.
I’ve said this before but pixie cuts are not suburban soccer mom haircuts. I know of which I speak, from the vantage point of the chain coffee shop where I sit watching the ladies with their blowouts, clad in either yoga pants or skinny jeans with tall boots and North Face parkas. Not a pixie among the many I see every day. Rant over.

My friend’s husband is in LA on business this week, so she decided to tag along and do some sightseeing. They are staying at the Beverly Hills Hilton, and she texted me the other day to tell me the People Magazine Awards was happening there. I am pretty up to date on my celebrity gossip, and even I was like “People Magazine Awards?????” She got dressed up and went to the lobby last night to do some “star” gazing and took a whole bunch of pictures. She said Mindy Kaling was super sweet and took a selfie with her, and waved and talked to the fans. She said that Amber Rose (??- what was she doing there) was really sweet to the fans also. Apparently Josh Groban, Kevin Hart, and Kaeley Cuoco (I can’t even bother scrolling up to see if that was correct, so Felicity 2.0) all waved to the fans in the lobby. She took pictures for me to show how paparazzi (and some regular people with phones) get all up in their faces and personal space. I never want to be famous, because I could not deal with that. She also told me that J.Lo, Kate Hudson, Karlie Kloss, Kate Upton, and Ariana Grande kept their heads down and walked past the fans in the lobby like they weren’t there. I actually saw Kate Upton when she was in Baltimore when Justin Verlander was here during the Orioles/Tigers game, and she wasn’t snobby or rude. So there is my super awesome insider (from a friend) take on the People Magazine Awards. Now I’m a little disappointed that she didn’t see John Hamm in person 🙁 I didn’t know he was there until this post.
