Elton John & David Furnish married in a low-key wedding ceremony in England

I wasn’t even going to write a post about this because I kind of thought Elton John and David Furnish were already married. They did have a civil partnership ceremony nearly a decade ago, but they waited until England legalized gay marriage (this year) to go through that process. And what a decade it’s been, you know? Elton and David became parents to sons Elijah and Zachary. Elton and David are also probably one of the most established couples in the entertainment industry – they’ve been together for more than 20 years.

Anyway, I decided to cover it when I saw that Elton and David both Instagram’d the entire wedding. I love when people do this! Go here to see Elton’s photos and go here to see David’s photos. David has been on Instagram longer, and he posts more photos of their sons.

The guest list included a lot of celebrities, like Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant, Jimmy Carr, David Walliams and his wife Lara Stone, and more. It looks like the wedding took place in a library? Wherever it was, it’s pretty low-key. Shockingly low-key. The cake looked great, but I doubt there was enough cake to go around for all of the guests! Lots of red roses, and it looks like someone was making balloon animals for all of the kids in attendance (which is smart). All in all, a lovely day. Congrats, Elton and David!

I thought they were already married too. Lovely, low key wedding, though. i guess I was stereotypically expecting something super over the top.

Yep. Thought they were already married, but I’m just glad we finally live in a world where this is barely a thing.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Unless they have a zillion nannies, having two young kids is probably what decided them on a low-key ceremony. Who has the time or energy? And how would you wrangle the children through such an epic of organization?

The picture with their son by their legs holding that stuffed animal is the most precious thing ever.

    Congrats to them both

That pic was taken by their 3 y.o. son Zachary using David’s IPhone.I just had a two year old take a pic of my yesterday looking a hot mess. These da#n toddlers and technology LOL

My first thought was, “That’s just delicious.” It’s beyond adorable.

Elton doing anything low-key is amazing. But seriously congrats to them, they’ve already been a family for a long time, glad they could finally make it legal.

Congratulations to them. But my brow is raised over this live instagramming business. I mean was it done for them by a handler or did they actually spend their wedding day with i phones glued to their hands, taking pics fiddling with filters etc. Because I can honestly think of nothing tackier at your own wedding.

  5. Charlie says:

Didn’t they live-stream it or something? Hardly low key, is it?
Anyway, I really love them as a couple.

  6. Sixer says:

I think that’s their house. My father’s firm made the gates for that place years back!

    • Frida_K says:

      Ha, very cool!

You are always full of wonderful gems to share, darling Sixer.

      *hugs*

    • Sixer says:

His firm did specialised metalwork and did do some cool things! It ranged from fittings for Claridge’s and BBC sets to tungsten barrels for darts players and bits of chrome for bikers’ bling. Plus wrought iron gates, like Elton’s!

      Is there a photo?

The Beckhams and their children were there. What a beautiful day for for John and David and the boys.

I notice Gaga wasn’t there and tweeted that day but never mentioned them at all. That was odd, not to even wish them happiness or say anything. She’s the godmother to their oldest son.

  8. Ag says:

congrats to them! (i think like most people, i thought that they were already married…) their kids are lovely, and the pictures of them are super sweet – the one of presumably their older son getting all excited about the cake is hilarious.

    • Jayna says:

The photo of the youngest boy with the stuffed rabbit in his arm and holding on to his daddy’s leg was taken by the oldest son. I thought it was a beautiful photo to be taken by someone so young. Maybe he’s a photographer in the making. LOL

The youngest one really looks like Elton.

      • Ag says:

wow, amazing that a 3 year old took that pic. i am put to shame with my 38 year old photo skills. haha

All that I can come up with for this is: “Oh, they weren’t already married?”
Congrats to them. I love seeing photos of their children. Cute, cute!

    • OrangeBlohan says:

I think they had a civil ceremony before? I love Elton John and I’m so happy that he has found happiness in his life! Love his music!

  12. Gia says:

I am so happy for them! I wish my country allowed same sex marriage. Maybe one day.

  13. Lara says:

I used to work in the House of Lords and when they were debating the Same Sex Marriage Bill there was a certain Lord that was very much against it so whenever we would send him post etc we would all sneeze in the envelope…

  14. nicegirl says:

CONGRATULATIONS! At long last! Wonderful, happy news! Best wishes to the newlyweds and their darling family!
