Did Blake Lively name her baby girl Violet? Is she copycatting Jen Garner?

Hey, remember back in the day, when Ben Affleck hired Blake Lively to play the “floozy” character in The Town? The rumors were all over the place that Blake and Ben spent too much time together, alone, and Ben seemed especially smitten with his young costar. Just my opinion: I always believed there was something there and I think it really hurt Ben’s marriage for a time. But Ben and Jennifer Garner recovered and are still “strong” (I guess). So is it especially awkward to hear another rumor, this time involving Blake’s baby name? Blake and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their first child sometime over the holidays. There’s new gossip that Blake gave birth to a girl… and that they named the baby “Violet”. Like Ben and Jen named their first child “Violet”????

It’s a girl! Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds‘ bundle of joy is a baby girl the couple has named Violet, according to a tweet from someone who claims to work at Westchester Medical Center — but sources confirmed to Page Six that while Lively’s baby is a girl, her name may not be Violet.

Multiple sources say the 27-year-old actress gave birth just before the new year. While the child arrived earlier than expected, we’re told both mom and baby are healthy.

According to one source, Lively’s parents, Ernie and Elaine Lively, are currently with the couple and their new baby at home in Bedford, NY. Lively and Reynolds, 37, married in 2012.

[From Page Six]

The case for a Violet Reynolds: It legitimately sounds like a name Blake would have chosen. It’s flowery, it’s old-fashioned, and I’m sure Ryan or Blake had a great-grandmother named Violet or something.

The case against a Violet Reynolds: I genuinely don’t think Blake would be so careless as to copycat Jennifer Garner’s baby name. I just don’t believe it. Blake might go for something in the same general area though. Iris. Marigold. Bluebell. LAVENDER. OMG it’s totally Lavender. Lavender Reynolds. Little Lavie.

For what it’s worth, Us Weekly also says that Blake and Ryan didn’t name their baby girl “Violet” and that the mysterious tweet was fake. So… there is no Violet Reynolds. But is there a Lavender Reynolds?!

Update: For some reason, Blake covers this week’s issue of People Magazine. She managed to get the cover without confirming anything about the baby! It’s so random.

When i first read the headline i thought that it might have been Sarafina, but Violet is so common and universal I wouldn’t deem that copying. Now had she named her Blue Ivy or something then that would deserve a side eye.

    • Jegede says:

LOL. But Blake’s friends with Beyonce so it could be Blue 1 and Blue 2.
They could be a girl group 20 years from now!!

    • two_seconds_ago says:

Yes, but if you believe the rumours about her affair with Ben Affleck on the set of The Town, giving your daughter the same name as your lover’s daughter seems a tad offensive.

      • sally says:

        @two-seconds-ago

I definitely think Ben & Blake had an affair during The Town. The way he gushed about her in interviews was uhhhh interesting. Way to name your baby after your ex-lover’s daughter. If I were Jen Garner, I’d be furious.

      • kittykat says:

        +1

      • sunsetsnow says:

I don’t believe she did. He probably wanted to and she was not up to cheating with a married man.

      • Dan says:

More fuel to the fire: those nudie pics of Blake that leaked years ago were from when she was filming that movie. She had her characters tattoos in the pics and it looked as if the pics were taken from inside her trailer

  2. Lilacflowers says:

    Comet Sophie Reynolds.

    • Kiddo says:

That is otterly ridic. It’s a sacred name only to be handed down to the tool progeny.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I am so very sorry. I had three too many Comet Sophies for breakfast. Please forgive me.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That was so sad when he called Comet Sophie a tool.

      • Aurore says:

I basically never comment here but I read the website and comments everyday. And I just want to say how much I love the Celebitchy commenting community, you guys are awesome and always make me laugh. Keep up the hilarious work, girls!

  3. Belle Epoch says:

Does anyone remember Hyacinth Bucket and her sisters, Rose and Daisy? I think Violet was the sister with “room for a pony.”

    • Loopy says:

LOL Mrs Bouquet, ‘keeping up appearances’ that lady had some serious issues Mrs BOOKET

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Yes, the rich one was named Violet. Keeping Up Appearances is my favourite show since childhood. I got all warm and fuzzy inside just by seeing you mentioning it.

Scarlett Johansson named her daughter Rose. If Blake and Ryan named their daughter after a flower as well, I would be more interested in that connection than the one to the Afflecks.

    • Rhiley says:

“Good morning, lady of the house speaking.” I watch Keeping Up Appearances almost every night before bed. It is on Netflix. So funny. And yes, Violet was married to the cross dressing husband and lived in a house with room for a pony. “

    • Jaderu says:

      Ahhhh I love Hyacinth!
I love the country drive episode
Hyacinth – Mind the horse Richard
Richard – It’s in the field
I just giggle myself silly watching this show.

    • RobN says:

Should have named her little Onslow Reynolds.

    • Kiki04 says:

OMG, I love that I am not the only one who loves that show…..

  4. Lee says:

We’ll soon know I bet…she will most likely announce it on Preserve.us.
If Violet is the real name, I have to say I like it…funny that probably both Blake and Scarlett chose flowers (or colors) name…
And I agree with Kaiser, I’ve always thought there was indeed something going on between Blake and Ben when they shot The Town.

  5. cannibell says:

A headline popped up somewhere last night (yahoo?) that she’d named her baby after a shade of purple and Lavender was my first guess.

    • Sparkly says:

Same here. I thought it was ‘meh, but if they *did* have an affair – or even just pissed Jen off too much – I now really hope it’s Lavender.

  6. Kiddo says:

    Blue Belle would be apt.

  7. Jegede says:

The nurse who worked at the hospital to tweet the gender and name should be fired.

Famous or not, that is a gross violation of HIPPA and patient confientiality.

    • Lee says:

Seems that tweet was a fake from some troll who liked to tweet fake sightings and fake news…at least that’s what they say! Page Six infact edited its first article based on that tweet.

  8. aligoat says:

I actually don’t mind the name Lavender. It’s suitable for both a little girl and a woman, unlike something like Bluebell, Trixie/Pixie, or Sunshine.

  9. Goats on the Roof says:

Ben Affleck and Jen Garner are hardly the first couple to call their kid Violet. It’s a good name, and calling Blake a copycat for *maybe* using it seems a bit much.

    • Sugar says:

Of course the Afflecks aren’t the first to name their kid Violet. But even you have to admit it is not a common name. I’ve never met anyone named Violet, which is probably true for most people.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

My grandmother and a coworker are both named Violet. It’s also been in the top 100 for baby girls the last several years and seems to be gaining popularity, so it’s hardly an unusual name.

      • lisa says:

i know a lot of people with small children named violet right now

    • Josephine says:

I agree. There is a Violet in my small town. I also think it is ridiculous that people would think she is “copying” someone else’s name – parents get to choose whatever name they want, no matter who already is named the same (and no matter how stupid it might sound to the rest of us).

    • V4Real says:

I know a woman named Violet. It’s a popular name.

She had her baby at Westchester Medical Center. I work about 20 minutes from there. I have also spent some long hours in their mental health department.

  10. MrsBPitt says:

I read that tweet last night on Daily Mail, and I thought, I’ll wait until Blake and Ryan tell us the name of the baby. Just sounded like a fake tweet to me. I know Ryan and Blake get a lot of hate, but I like them together! They always look happy when I see pics of them together. Maybe they will name the baby Martha Stewart Reynolds!!!! lol

    • Jegede says:

      I read the tweet too.

Y’know I thought Blake would have a boy.

Then again, I though Kate Middleton would have a girl a year ago so what do I know??

  11. Angie says:

Violet isn’t that unusual of a name – just old fashioned in some circles (e.g., it’s the name of one of my great grandmothers). But that kinda fits for Blake right? She probably thinks it’s quaint.

As far as Jen Garner goes: Well I think Blake and Jen have pretty similar taste with their mutual love of Martha Stewart and focus on home and hearth. And of course, the spec that Blake may have schtupped Jen’s husband. FWIW I’m one of those naive people that think Blake didn’t fool around with Ben. But he definitely crushed on her – that’s for sure.

    • Jegede says:

I actually read that Ben was often seen hanging around with Rebecca Hall, and they took lunches off set together.

But Hall is a ‘cerebral brunette’ so that did not pick up steam in the tabloids.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. Ben didn’t. He was directing an action thriller and acting as lead in it, and the weight of the world was on his shoulders to prove his first acting gig wasn’t a fluke. He talked about it in an interview. He was under intense pressure, taking on so much, and his career the was trying to rebuild was on the line. He moved his family there to be with him. And he was seen joking around with Rebecca a lot too. He had far more scenes with Rebecca, only a couple with Blake, who had a very small part and probably wasn’t on set for the whole duration, just came in did her role and left after so many weeks.

      • Jegede says:

The “Ben had an affair with Gone Girl co star, Emily R” narrative may have taken over.

At least till Affleck casts another 20 something in his next film, to have the rumor follow her.

      • Jayna says:

I meant first directing gig wasn’t a fluke.

  12. Esmom says:

I love the name Violet and I didn’t even think of the Afflecks, despite being the gossip hound I am. Who knows. But the name does make me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: “Violet, you’re violet!”

  13. scout says:

I vote for Lavender. Why not? It’s pretty.

  14. Jayna says:

At least, she didn’t copy Goop naming her daughter Apple. LOL

She and Jen are both southerners, so I see loving the name.

  15. Luca76 says:

I honestly always believed Lainey’s theory that Ben Affleck had an affair with Rebecca Hall on The Town and that him and Lively just flirted.

  16. Rosalee says:

There were four sisters in school with me years, and years ago – their names were Daisy, Iris, Rose and Violet..no boys in the family or I’m sure their would have been a Peony

  17. lower-case deb says:

i love Calla, Amaryllis, or Jasmine and Iris for flower-derived baby names.

    • Esmom says:

I like Lily, too, and I also know two Dahlias. Funny fact, my local grocery store has three flower-named ladies working there, usually on the same shift: Rose, Lily and Iris. They have been working there for years and said I was the only one who’s ever commented on the connection and that it hadn’t even occurred to them!

    • Jaded says:

My amaryllis plant does not like her name being appropriated for a human. Her name is Phyllis by the way. True.

  18. Janet says:

Why does she have to be copycatting anybody? Maybe she just likes the name. Nobody has a copyright on a given name.

  19. Barbiegirl says:

Married people with a life do not choose baby names based on some alleged affair. They chose it because they like it. End of story.

  20. lily says:

His first wife named her daughter Rose, so why not?

  21. AntiSocialButterfly says:

    Adelaide Amaryllis Reynolds. Boom.

  22. Hotpockets says:

The name is Destiny Hope Eleanor Lively-Reynolds

  23. original kay says:

    Aubergine Reynolds.

  24. Ginger says:

If I recall correctly weren’t the leaked cell phone partly nude photos of her sent to Ben while they were filming the Town? I’m not certain. Anyway, what about Lily Reynolds? My nephews half sister is named Lily. It’s so pretty and feminine.

  25. Blythe says:

Whatever the name may be, I’m glad that we’ve decided that she has give her daughter the most country and rustic name of all time.

  26. Masque says:

Antebellum Reynolds. BellRey for the nickname.

  27. Rocket says:

But will it have her original nose? Hope not.

  28. Shay says:

It’s obviously gonna be Saran Wrap Reynolds.
