Jennifer Aniston in black Saint Laurent at the Globes: boring or cute?

FFN_KM_GoldenGlobes_Arr_011115_51623058

I didn’t think Jennifer Aniston looked bad at all at the Golden Globes. I mean, of course she wore a black dress. She loves wearing black for major red carpets, and to give her some credit, this Yves Saint Laurent (or I guess we’re calling it Saint Laurent now?) gown was a lot better than the usual black dresses she chooses. I remember when she wore a black Lanvin to the Oscars many years ago, and it was like she was in widow’s garb. This black Saint Laurent is thankfully not widow-chic. It’s just a pretty dress. Of course, I have thoughts about why Jennifer chose Saint Laurent out of all of her possible designer options, but let’s save that for another day. My one big criticism: the thigh slit was too high. She tried to walk or move, it was like we were an inch of fabric away from being flashed.

I also have to give it to Aniston: I liked her styling. A lot! I like that she didn’t wear her hair down and in her face. The updo was sleek and red carpet-appropriate. I also liked that she wasn’t dripping in diamonds – her Neil Lane earrings were apparently controversial on Twitter, but I like that she went for yellow-gold and black accents. Her makeup looked good too.

As for how she behaved… well, I’ll admit that I was barely paying attention to what she said, but CB told me that Aniston seemed drunk. When Aniston presented with Benedict Cumberbatch, it seemed like a combination of nerves and alcohol. Hey, at least she wasn’t stoned.

As for Justin Theroux… eh. What do you want me to say? The Emoting Eyebrow was in full force and his smile looks so fake.

    Bridesmaid dress. That is all.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

If she gets a Oscar nomination, I’ll be shocked!
She can finesse a GG nod….
But for Oscar there are several much more deserving women in the running who should fill that Oscar nom space, other than Jen. Imo

I was invited to a small screening of Cake. Not sure she will get a OSCAR nomination , she has to get worldwide Academy voters and there are other women, much more deserving. Jmo.

      • Lila says:

Oscar nomination is in the bag. Not sure if she will win though. She certainly has plenty of supporters amongst her posse of young to middle aged women, however will the majority of mostly elderly Academy members think she is deserving of the ultimate award? We shall see.

      • Luca76 says:

The fact that Amy Adams won last night as well as getting a BAFTA nod show that they are neck and neck for the fifth spot. And Amy has the advantage of being nominated 5 out of the last 10 years.

      • Amber says:

I don’t think it’s a lock by any means. Last night and the BAFTA nominations threw everything, but not really. These wins completely backed up the BAFTA nods. I personally didn’t have an issue with ANY of the wins last night. And I’ve seen that mentioned on other websites too. (The Affair wins seem to be the only controversy.) A trend is clearly presenting itself. TIG was running in fourth to Birdman, Boyhood, and Grand Budapest. We shouldn’t be surprised they got shutout. And we shouldn’t be surprised at all if the Oscar acting nods are identical to the BAFTAs. I wasn’t expecting Adams, (who also made a pretty clever speech last night too), to get any attention this year. But her win and the nominations that keep coming threw a wrench in everything. And try though she might, Aniston can not out “underdog” Moore or Adams. Aniston does not know award season suffering like those two. Moore (IMO is as much a lock to win as Arquette, no one else has a chance in hell), Witherspoon, and Jones are locks. But now we may HAVE to throw Amy in there. Which to me leaves Aniston competing with Pike. Even in this lackluster year in the actress races (Sorkin knows why, lol), if Aniston were to get the nod over Pike, it would be a joke. I honestly think it would backfire. A lot of people loved Pike’s performance. Like they love Amy Adams, period. An Oscar nomination for a film and a performance with few reviews (and mixed/mixed negatives ones at that), playing in 4 1/2 theaters would be a headscratcher that would lead to her hustling becoming a crossover topic from gossip blogs into the mainstream entertainment press.

      • someonestolemyname says:

        I agree Amber.
It’s still seems very up in the air for Jenn after last night, IMO.

I think the only thing in the bag was the SAG nomination because it’s mostly TV people who vote and she’s a known tv institution practically. I’m not even sure she’ll win the SAG now though.
I just think with Amy Adams, Julianna Moore and others(Pike, Arquette) Jenn Anniston is going to have a hard time squeezing into that last spot for the nomination. I think it’s still touch and go for her concerning Oscar nod, unless Huvane is working wonders with Academy voters around the world?
        We will see soon.

      • lucy2 says:

I don’t think she will get nominated. I think it will be Julianne, Felicity, Amy, Reese and Rosamunde. If anything, Marion might get in there instead.
Everyone wants an Oscar, but if her main goal was to be seen differently and be taken more seriously, then she probably accomplished that enough to get some better role offers in the future.

      • FLORC says:

        Lucy2
        Agree.
So much of this oscar buzz was from Huvane earning his checks. And now that so many are associating her with awards it’s taken on a life of its own. That won’t help her with an Oscar though. There are too many worthy actresses to allow Aniston in for a nomination. I find it all a bit funny she’s taken on this type of serious role, hasn’t been terrible and that should equal an oscar nom.

      • fritanga says:

Acting Oscar nominations are made by the actors who belong to the Academy. Because of this I think Aniston may be shut out, unless she was already nominated by the Screen Actors Guild. She certainly doesn’t deserve an Oscar nomination, but she’s been campaigning hard for it. Stranger things have happened. If she does get nominated, she won’t win. This is Julianne Moore’s year, and yeah, she’s actually an accomplished, excellent actor, unlike Aniston.

    • Sarah says:

I disagree. I thought she looked good. The controversy on the jewelry is ridiculous, IMO. On a night when every starlet is dripping in diamonds, Jen chose yellow gold. That’s fine. Its different. As for her presentation with Cumberbatch – I think she was acting folks. Their whole schtick was that he was just randomly chosen from the audience to present with her and they hadn’t rehearsed, etc. She was supposed to seem flustered.

      • funcakes says:

Poor Ben C looked like he just wanted present and move on instead of being part of a bad shtick sketch. She seems to be always doing some nervous Rachel routine.

      • Bridget says:

I got the impression that the Cumby part was pre-arranged, but word legitimately didn’t get to Aniston. Which would be believable because she’s a big enough star that she usually presents solo (which is a mark of status) and I wonder if she would have agreed to it.

I loved those earrings. I can’t believe they were controversial.

      • Esmom says:

Bridget, are you serious? Every moment is completely scripted. Them being out of sync was their act. I don’t get why people don’t get that, everyone I was watching with did and thought it was cute.

      • Bridget says:

Aniston almost never presents with a partner – that’s negotiated, not by coincidence. While I certainly don’t think they randomly picked the Batch out of the audience, she genuinely didn’t seem thrilled to have to share, especially on a night that she was up for a big award.

      • Esmom says:

Again, Bridget, that was their act. I get that you and people here don’t like her but to say that she won’t present with someone else as another way to disparage her is kind of a stretch.

      • doofus says:

Esmom…I guess she’s a better actor than folks give her credit for, huh?

the way people were talking about the vid, I also wondered if she got legit p*ssed but after I watched it?…def a gag. corny but kind of funny/cute.

that’s kind of what the GGs are about, aren’t they? it’s like “the Oscars with more booze and less pretentiousness”.

      • Amy Tennant says:

Yeah, I think it’s pretty clear it was scripted. All of it. I don’t think she was legitimately ticked off or even drunk.

      • Bridget says:

@ESMOM you’re welcome to think whatever you want. I on the other hand, saw one person in that bit was rehearsed and totally game (Batch) and one person was ticked off and trying not to show it (Aniston). Something went wrong there.

      • FLORC says:

        Esmom
Just a few things. Every moment is scripted to a certain extent, but not everything goes the way it should. Also, Aniston has a history of using liquid courage in these situations. Not in a Dean Martin pretending to be tipsy kind of way.
That said it seems like a little bit from both sides. She’s had some drinks, but to loosen herself up for the skit.

      • mayamae says:

Her presentation was obviously a joke, and I enjoyed it. Her role was to act irritated, and BC was to act ingratiating. Come on people.

      • c'est la vie says:

ITA that the YSL looks good on her, especially with the updo and the earrings. Love the earrings, as a matter of fact.

And say what you want about the eyebrow, at least he doesn’t look like a goat!

And of course it was a scripted gag! Please!

    • Jess says:

I would even go so far as to say Matron of Honor. Very dull and matronly dress and hair (although I’m glad she tried something different).

    • joan says:

I thought she seemed snappish and rude to Cumberbatch — was I not in on the joke?

If it WAS scripted, it was botched. And not cute at all.

And she seemed high-ish and looked meh.

      • chick binewski says:

I agree, joan. Whatever was happening during that presentation didn’t work at all from Aniston’s end. Starting with her sour look & walk up the stairs flashing her thigh.

I used to be a fan and never got the criticism as an actress. I thought she was very good in She’s the One and Friends With Money (and charming in Object of My Affection and Picture Perfect). I think one mistake she may have made was completely turning her back on television. She had so much heat for years after Friends that it makes it difficult for me to believe there couldn’t have been one project worth her while.

Watching her last night I realize I don’t understand how she still gets this level of attention. Reading her interviews, she doesn’t sound terribly bright or interesting. As a chronic pain patient I’m just slightly irritated that she clearly knows nothing about the subject. As a movie fan I think she’s said nothing that makes her film sound compelling. And she finds time in her interview to mention her sad, dead boyfriend but hasn’t managed to mention a kind word about her Cake co-star who suffered from actual depression and died tragically several months ago?

And her dress made her look like a linebacker.

    • Brodie says:

Well we all know Billy Bob Thorton likes it..lifelong goal. 😄😄😄😄

    • fritanga says:

Boring. Just a boring black dress worn by any number of actresses on the red carpet.

  2. Jayna says:

Jen is never fat, nor even chunky. But on her body frame and always with the heavy tanner, I think she looks best a little thinner with her height. It elongates her and her arms look better. But I liked the gown. It was a very flattering cut and a little different from others on the red carpet.

    Justin looks handsome.

    • minx says:

The dress made her look boxy.
As usual she overdoes the tanning, and she is at an age where she just shouldn’t. I know she’s a couple years older than JT but last night she looked more than that.

I’m sure she tried to have her hair up to Look Serious but she doesn’t have the features for it to look flattering, and she has very strange ears.

      • QQ says:

Agreed Minx ..is not her weight Is the cut of that dress hitting her in all the unflattering ways it could

      • littlestar says:

I felt like the top part of the dress made her boobs look saggy, which is crazy because that woman does NOT have saggy boobs at all!

      • FLORC says:

        Littlestar
That dress was awful. When a dress makes a thin woman without sag look saggy and filled out it’s time to put that dress back.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

Do you mean I finally won’t get shaded for saying this chick is Stumpy? I don’t believe it. 🙂

    • Byte Me says:

Justin is handsome but he almost always looks like such a dork in pictures.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

Jen has definitely gained weight and is definitely chunky. She no longer has the “banging body” she was known for.

  3. Greata says:

I think she looked great , but the dress seems better suited to someone who has a longer mid section. He as usual is all kinds of crazy.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Yes dress on Jen gave her a matronly look,

I think she looked sort of matronly overall.

  4. vauvert says:

Did not hate dress but it got me thinking; if I had that toned body and that much money, would I have picked a boring black dress with a high slit, three different fabrics and a black sequin halter top that screams mall couture? And the answer is no. With all the choices she has? Blah. The earrings were interesting, but again, the style was good, the colours boring. Liked her manicure. There, a positive comment. Hated the shoes – again, it’s the standard high heel one strap, kills your feet and squashes your toes forward boring mall special. Her makeup was great, her hair was super boring. And Jen, lay off the sauce.
Can’t ever stand smug Justin, and his skinny tie… Meh. Black tie affair dude, get dressed for it, and go easy on the spray tan.

  5. They’re both SO orange. Natural skin tones are beautiful people! I hate that spray tanning crap–at least get a real one.

The only thing I like about her dress is the slit. I don’t think it’s a horrible dress, it’s just….wrong. I hate the belt thing-y at her waist–it makes her look like she’s doing her best to suck it in. Maybe if the whole thing had been sequined, with the slit…..that would’ve been better.

I do love her earrings though. I wouldn’t have said no to some bling, but black and gold go together.

    • Snazzy says:

Yes I’m with you on that one … I just don’t understand why people think spray tans look good. They never do!

    • Erinn says:

Her eyes look great. Not over done, but really boosted up with the lashes/top liner. I have similar colored eyes… and sometimes it can be hard to make them pop well when they’re that light because they almost just wash out color wise.

The orange though? Sigh. They both just need to take it down a couple notches. It’s not the WORST orange I’ve seen on either of them… but it’s still too much. I’m white as all get out. I can go into a murky lake and actually see my skin glowing haha. It’s rough. I actually went to a tanning salon for a couple times before my wedding and used the tanning lotion crap. I thought I looked SO DARK (for me). I had soooo many comments on how porcelain I looked haha. Me with a tan is still porcelain apparently.

      • Erinn, you and me are porcelain sisters. Seriously–you’d think that because I was biracial I’d have a little color in me…NOPE. I am pale as a ghost, and don’t tan. Ever. Once I stayed outside all day, full sunlight, no protection–on the hottest/sunniest day of the year. I got a little red (was a little tender for a day or so), and that was about it. My dad was red as a lobster, and his skin on his face was peeling. I was fine. I just put a little aloe vera gel on…

    • Josephine says:

I absolutely agree. I only liked the slit as well. The rest looked too mall to me. And I loathed her hair. I think it looks frosted and the updo made her look older than her years. I was hoping for something great and this just was not it. She should try a v-neck and an a-line dress. This one made her mid-section look thick and the girls look dumpy. Such a disappointment.

    • TWINK says:

“At least get a real one” is bad advice since the surgeon general said, “tanned skin is damaged skin”.

      • Erinn says:

Yeah, I do have to agree. Which is why I now embrace the pale outside of the one group of tanning trips pre-wedding. They really need to start making fake tanning products better. I actually have some sort of weird leg makeup from sally hansen that is like a fake tan cream… and it doesn’t look orange on me, but I put it on sparingly, and usually combine it with a bit of moisturizer to smooth it out better. Maybe they’re going too heavy for their natural skin tone?

Google actually says that it’s possibly that it got touched up too often and it’s over saturated the skin. Too high a percentage of DHA I guess.

    • littlestar says:

I loved her earrings too! I thought they were very glam and very unique.

  6. Grace says:

I give Aniston props for trying to change up her look. Dress was nice, loved her accessories but her hair had to go. I want to give her points for wearing her hair up but her hair at times looked like it slicked back with mayonaise or some other greasy condiment. Eyebrow guy was alright.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Her hair was to severe…if she is going to change her hair, it needs to be softer. She doesn’t have the soft facial features to wear her hair that tightly pulled back. After complaining for years that she always wears her hair long, I apologize to Jen! You were right, you look better with the hair down!!!!

Her gown seemed to be a little tight….you can see it pulling in the mid-section. Maybe she’s pregnant!!!!!!!! Just kidding!!!!! But seriously…it was too tight!

      • Amy Tennant says:

Nah, she’s not pregnant. I know ’cause when she moved in that dress and walked up the stairs, I could see right into her uterus. 😉

      • Camille (The Original) says:

I agree with you about her hair/face, it didn’t suit her at all. She needed a softer updo – something with waves/curls.

And that dress just emphasized her boxy shape. Her neck and shoulders are too (for lack of a better word) masculine and halter necks never look good on her to me. So the dress/look was a miss for me.

As for her BF – yuck, greasy and orange and dyed black hair is never a good look.

    • Loopy says:

i feel like i have seen her wear this exact outfit and hair.

    • someone says:

I agree. I didn’t think having her hair back was the problem, it was the slick just out of the pool look that distracted me. If it had been back and clean it would have been better.

  7. OTHER RENEE says:

I don’t like the way her boobs as it on that belt. It looks top heavy.

Time magazine recently did a piece on Oscar worthy performances and among the women mentioned, not a Jennifer or Cake in sight. Just saying…

  8. Rosalee says:

Drunk? No, nerves where high, she was first presenter with the Cumberbatch. BC would have me reeling on the stage, all that British masculine sexiness in a tux. I hoped Aniston would have won, just to read the gnashing of teeth of the usual mean girls, you know who I mean, now that’s entertainment.

    • Judyk says:

Agree w/ Heather. I put off taking Speech in college until my fourth year because of shyness. I always volunteered to give my speech first, so I could relax and enjoy the others.

    • Dingo says:

I really don’t think she was drunk – I think they made it that way – she even she muttered ”I was supposed to do this by myself” as a joke.

      • lisa2 says:

I don’t think she was drunk either.. She is just a poor speaker. She has this weird thing she does with her mouth. She can’t articulate. And mumbles.

everyone is not a great public speaker.. But you would expect an Actor to be able to read the prompter or memorize their lines so they sound articulate.

The dress was not my favorite. I thought she would WOW the crowd since this is her first GG nod in many years. Well the SAGs are next so maybe she will change it up more.

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

I think the slit was too high. Otherwise her dress and styling were great. I don’t think she has the right face for such severely slicked back hair, but the up-do would have been pretty with a few wisps escaping.

As for the was-she-drunk debate here, I honestly didn’t get that vibe at all…just thought for the millionth time how hard it is for Jennifer to be articulate on the spot. She’s one of those people who does better with a very set script, and our darling Cumby threw her off her planned lines. To me, the proof of that was how she had to go back to the point where he’d distracted her with his whimsy and start again from that point like a robot. Jen is never going to be an articulate public speaker.

But I did think she looked pretty and would have looked better with a more natural, slightly mussed up-do. And a needle and thread to close the top of that flasher slit!

      • Amber says:

Ok, now that you mention it, I don’t know about drunk anymore. But very awkward and inarticulate, (and I always thought watching old Friends re-runs that she was handling some kind of speech impediment, like a lisp or something. It’s always seemed to take a lot of effort for her to move her mouth to me.) I thought she was off on the red carpet last night too, in a manner that made me think, “God, you’re drunk before even getting to Seacrest?” But now that I’m thinking about it, she didn’t seem “drunk” like that while presenting. It was just awkward. Cumberbatch was announced as a presenter. I have a hard time believing they didn’t tell her and it wasn’t planned. But maybe they didn’t rehearse it or went off script? So he threw her. And/or she threw herself off and then all was lost. But it is a remarkable difference watching Aniston in a talk show situation or being interviewed by Chelsea Handler, or any place with brief, pithy conversations and pre-approved questions, versus when she’s put on the spot and actually interacts with people.

      • mayamae says:

I gasped a little when she walked onto the stage and I saw how high the slit was. Risky move. I don’t think Jen has a speech impediment, but I do think she has always talked as if her jaw was wired shut. I have no idea why.

I also think she comes off as shy publicly – obviously I have no idea if it’s real or affected, but she’s been that way forever. I remember when she was still married to Brad, she exited a restaurant and was waiting for her car. A pap spotted her and started drilling her and asking if she was pregnant. It was very uncomfortable, and even though I wasn’t a big JA/BP fan, I felt bad for her because she kind of looked down and just mumbled “no”.

    • Jayna says:

She is always nervous when presenting at big award shows. She makes me nervous watching her often.

    • Louise177 says:

I disagree that Jennifer is drunk at awards shows. I think she just can’t speak. I can believe that she could be tipsy at a couple of shows but all of them? She and Justin also need to learn how to spray tan. They always use too much.

    • Artemis says:

Doing something many times, doesn’t mean you lose the anxiety/nervousness. Some of the greatest performers (Streisand comes to mind) still get nervous before a performance. Joaquin Phoenix says he still gets nervous before a scene and the dude is a genius at his job since a young age. So practice doesn’t mean shit if you have a high-strung personality. Many performers are shy (Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger etc).

I know from other posts that Aniston slipping-up automatically means ‘drunk’ for some people. She has been drunk on an awards show but most of the times, she just fucks up. She doesn’t need alcohol. Many people are bad presenters at these shows, if you haven’t noticed.

    • Brittany says:

I always really pay attention as the presenters are opening up the envelopes and I swear at least 60 percent of them have shaking hands as they are opening it up. They may be actors, they may be professionals but they can’t have nerves? C’mon, the hate for somebody having nerves is funny. Because the haters are REACHING here. I’m not an actor but I can NOT imagine standing up on that stage, with all those people in the audience, with MERYL STREEP front and center and NOT be nervous.

      • I Choose Me says:

        Hear, hear!

      • doofus says:

just finally watched the vid…the whole thing was clearly staged…yes, a bit corny, but it was funny/cute too.

and I also heard no slurring. I agree, she has problems with articulation and it seems like she doesn’t open her mouth all the way, but I def didn’t hear slurring.

right after she said the “let’s back up” or “start over” or whatever, her next line was articulated VERY clearly…but it was ALSO affected, and you could tell that’s not her natural “announcing” voice/style.

I know her detractors love to point and say “drunk!” at every opportunity, and I think she DOES get tipsy at some events, but not here.

      • lisa2 says:

@doofus.. I guess it is the same detractors that accuse other celebs of being stoned.

        same brush strokes.

      • doofus says:

        lisa2, not sure who you’re referring to?…

if you mean Pitt, seems like the author of the article usually says it before any “detractors” do. seemed to be a pretty popular comment regarding his Chanel commercial.

however, I don’t get the impression of “stoned” from Pitt…but I do get “surfer boy mellowness”…like, he doesn’t sweat the small stuff and lets it roll right off. for some, it’s interchangeable.

    • Gina says:

I wanted her to win for the same reason…lol. Julianne seems to have a lock on the award season. It’s no fun anymore, the winners are predicted and named before the shows even are aired. Jennifer looked fine and acted appropriately but haters gonna hate no matter what.

    • maeliz says:

I’d be a little nervous if I was her. She knows that no matter what she looks like or does, could look better than anyone there and show no nervousness, she’ll still be put down more than she deserves.

      • Anon says:

Both Jen and Justin’s eyes are popped open before the event begins on the red carpet….too wide open, if you know what I mean. Drugs and booze, not a good combo.

    • doofus says:

Heather, even in front of a live studio audience, they will re-shoot a scene over and over. she would have several chances to “nail” it.

to add, though one is “in front” of an audience in both instances, doing a scene with one (or several) other actors is simply not the same as standing at a podium speaking directly to them.

I had no problem in acting class doing a scene with a few people, but “making a presentation” in front of my biology or english class? SHAKING.

I know you don’t like her and you can mock her career choices all you want, but it’s not nice to mock people’s phobias. maybe give her a break on this?…

      • Jayna says:

@doofus, regarding your statement above, I agree. Kim Basinger I loved in movies, but she was a mess as a presenter. The fear was on her face. I have seen actors come out and kind of freeze.

Jennifer isn’t the most eloquent anyway, let’s face it.. But she’s not an anomaly as far as certain actors or actresses that are wooden when presenting or seem to flub every time at big award shows.

    • The Original G says:

I think that stuttering, and slurring is her go to performance persona. If she really was serious about breaking out into more diverse roles, you’d think she’d drop it. She had a chance last night to show that she’s made of more and she didn’t take it.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

Make excuses all you want, ladies, but ‘Shy’ doesn’t explain or excuse the slurring. It also wouldn’t explain why she slurs sometimes while presenting, but not all the time. Those rose colored glasses must be heavy. Perhaps it’s time to take them off.

  9. Charlotte says:

Didn’t need to know she waxes, but I think she looks great.

  10. boredblond says:

I think the hair up was to remind everyone she’s not Rachel anymore. I like the dress, classy, a little safe..thank god she didn’t do the angie leg thing, hehe…

    • Jayna says:

As Rachel, she wore her hair up a lot back in the day. She would wear a side part and put up.

    • DJ says:

Yes!! I think everyone could take a lesson from her on the proper way to pose with a slit. How NOT to look like you are hovering over a toilet.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

Yep. I noticed it as well. Her legs are too short to pull off the ‘slit.’ I don’t know why she attempts to wear that style of dress (the sausage dress either).

      • minime says:

@ Emma – the JP Lover: just because someone disagrees with your opinion and think that loonies are rude in either way, it doesn’t mean they are the same person. I always commented here as minime or minimi, so you can go and check it.

    • Michele says:

She hasn’t been Rachel in 20 years and it shows….she needs to remember she actually is a 90s tv ensemble actress and not a Oscar level dramatic movie actress then she won’t have to be embarrassing herself like this at the Golden Globes.

  11. pretty says:

her forehead and hairline look soooo fake. like Kim K, she also plucked or removed all the baby hairs? do they think it’s flattering? it looks like they’re wearing wigs and look super fake.

  12. Janet says:

My gawd, he was wearing more makeup than she was.

  13. Judyk says:

Thought the dress was pretty, but the slit too high, and I laughed when she raised the skirt much, much higher than she needed to in order to access the steps to deliberately show all of both legs. Not a fan of hers at all, but I liked her hair.

  14. Maya says:

Jennifer if your man spends more time getting ready then he is trying to tell you something.

  15. NewWester says:

I was thinking the same thing about who she was trying to “copy” But would Jennifer actually be that obvious ?

  16. epiphany says:

The thing that makes the Golden Globes so much fun is that the attendees get hammered right before our very eyes! As make as I dislike Aniston, I can’t fault her for getting her drink on. Glad she didn’t win, not because of any animus toward her, but because I don’t think she deserved it based on her work. Now, I haven’t seen the film; what tells me it’s less than stellar is that none of Aniston’s co-stars – many of whom are major talents – haven’t lifted a finger to promote ‘Cake’, or even give Aniston a public “atta girl” for her nominations. That tells me more than any critic review.
The dress looks like something a woman you don’t know but keep noticing because she’s loud would wear to your brother’s wedding reception – that’s all I’ve got.

    • Sullivan says:

Yes, the silence from her co-stars is deafening. How odd. It’s as if she did a one-woman show.

      • Janet says:

But that’s how they’ve been selling the movie. Cake is HER movie. As if it’s a one-woman show and nobody else is in it. The rest of the cast must feel resentful as hell. No wonder they won’t lift a finger to help promote it. In their place, I wouldn’t either.

  17. Bea says:

    They look so….odd.

  18. Messenger says:

i usually like annistons look, she has a toned, ahletic figure and is never too try hard but when i saw her last night i was startled at her overdone makeup and her underdone hair. the dress mde her look flat chested. in general an all around fail. she did seem nutso when presenting..maybe she was afraid amal would give her the eyebrow and end her life as she knows it. ugh to both of them.

  19. sally says:

I was also gona say the same thing. That’s a Jolie Leg!

  20. spaniard says:

She uses to have good taste in dresses but I don’t like this on her. Boring and makes no favours to her figure. Don’t like the hairstyle and I think she should have avoided the leg slit if doesn’t really like the tabloid gossip comparing her and AJ all the time. Seems she wants all the drama to no end.

  21. Calcifer says:

Can’t help it, I just like them together. They look a bit like brother and sister. They are both much, much too tan though, I agree. Natural skin tone would be difficult for Aniston though, because she has always tanned so much that by now her skin probably only looks good when tanned… One of the big disadvantages of tanning too much.

  22. Brittany says:

I think she looks great and Justin is HOT. As a gay woman, I almost feel uncomfortable talking about how good looking he is LOL Anyways, I thought she looked good, I wish I had a body like hers. As for comments about the slit and copying somebody…really people? Really?

    • DJ says:

She looked fabulous! The instant I saw her dress last night, I laughed and thought, the JP stalker’s will say she was trying to copy her exes wife. Seriously! I guess everyone with a slit in their dress was copying the infamous director. Laughable to say the least!

      • Maya says:

Yeah Jennifer should give a lesson in how to lift up your dress as high as possible and show the world just where you have waxed – right?

She will give those old western saloon dancing girls a run for their money.

      • minime says:

oh Heather you should consider your own recommendation. You’re just filling this post with your hate for someone you don’t know from anywhere, it’s pathetic. Chill! It’s easy to guess what the JP’ stalkers will say because they always say the same thing, as it is the case with the JA’stalkers that always use the same vitriol against Angelina. Hate is different from gossip.

      • Maya says:

duplicate or should I say Mimif trolling???

      • Brittany says:

Heather is the epitome of the JP stalkers. Am I right or am I right? I can look at pretty much every celebrity subjectively (for the most part—sorry Cosby, you’re not one of them). I can ignore their private lives, their divorces, etc and just see their outfit and think ‘yes, they look good’ or ‘oh my God, hot mess’. But the Loons? No. They can’t say one nice word about a woman that was married to Brad years and years ago. They can’t say one nice word about her because she is a woman scorned who makes it her lifes mission to make Brangelina ‘pay’. It’s really scary, the level of creepiness i get on this site ONLY on the Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie stories.
At this point, I wonder if Heather and the like are really just trolls and making fun of the loons or do they really mean it?

      • Peppa says:

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

      • doofus says:

Peppa, that’s one of my FAVE lines, ever. Mugatu for-EVAH!

        and yes, I’m a bit a-scairt myself…

      • Janet says:

Why in hell do the JPs have to be dragged into EVERY DAMN ANISTON THREAD?!!? Enough already! Sh*t gets OLD.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

        @Heather and Maya …

I think DJ and Minime are the same person.

      • The Original G says:

I mean, WTF? The reaction to Jen is tepid I can’t imagine why the uproar. . She’s not the only one with a less than perfect outfit. Why so hypersensitive? There will be more award shows…….

    • maeliz says:

I think Jennifer is good looking, but I’m not gay. I don’t see any copying either. Seen slits in Hollywood a lot higher than that. Angelina isn’t the only one who ever had one in her dress, but some will bring it up

      • doofus says:

yes, there were black leg-slit dresses before Jolie’s, and there will be after.

of course, as Jolie is so well-loved (and hated, too, apparently) and SO famous, every actress/celeb who has a black leg-slit dress will be compared, or accused of “copying”.

        JLo’s stance/pose was MUCH more Jolie-esque.

    • Brittany says:

LOL Heather. You HAVE to be trolling. Your comment made me LOL. Thank you for my Monday morning laugh. You nailed the loons.

      • Peppa says:

It’s pretty sick, Brittany. I actually don’t like either woman very much, but the fanaticism is mind blowing. It has to be one person who uses different names because they come on here and say the same things, but have a different name almost every time.

  23. DenG says:

Say, did anyone else see Aniston touching Kate Hudson’s butt while talking to Ryan Seacrest? What a naughty girl. Also, I do wonder why it seems that Aniston is self-promoting without the support of the Cake cast.

  24. Dante says:

That dress is not flattering at all and boring to boot. She is a slender woman and it makes her look weighty. I can’t believe I am saying this but she should ALWAYS wear her hair down. I like the earrings but they are clearly too heavy, her lobes are sagging and it looks painful. I am so tired of the one strap heel but she is hardly the only offender there.

Justin needs to ditch the skinny ties, that is a young man ‘s mistake. I love him on the Leftovers but the try hard is strong in this one. Both need to seriously dial down the spray tan. Orange is not natural or attractive. These are two attractive people fighting against the hot and polluting it with fakery.

Also, not sure what was up, I don’t think she was drunk, but she was scowling and looked pissed off walking up there and once on stage it just got worse. Maybe she was pissed about them going first and whether it was scripted or not, they both seemed unprepared.

  25. scout says:

Just saw her on red carpet (watching DVR now! Haha..) and she looks old, may be too much make up and she is talking like she is in another World. Not much cake in her tummy I guess.
    JT, again, why????????
Amy Adams looks beautiful and articulate.

  26. Ginger says:

I’m going to have to disagree with you about the styling. I’m not a fan of her makeup and hair but I will give her credit for doing something different. I love that dress! It’s gorgeous. And she has that rocking figure and great legs to pull off the thigh high slit. The earrings are really different and I like them but not with that dress.

    • Kitten says:

      Her legs are amazing.

      I don’t hate the dress, I think it’s very Aniston, that’s all.

    • Annie says:

I loved the dress and the styling. That halter cut looks great on women who work out and have nice arms. I think Jen dresses conservative and classy. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting to grab all the attention ( in a bad or ridiculous way). Some of these celebs try way too hard to wear something ‘ noticeable ‘

  27. Evyn says:

You would think with all her money, she would have the dress tailored to fit. It is obviously a size too small. Just accept the fact you are a larger size, and dress accordingly., That boob fat is just as distracting as Rosamund’s back fat in her dress.
This is the red carpet, people. Aside from Kate Hudson and Diane Krueger, everyone else looked just awful. Joan Rivers would have had a field day last night.

    • Curious Cole says:

Jen’s dress was definitely too small. It made her hunch her shoulders, seemed to swallow part of her cleavage, and was too tight around the stomach. Between the dress, having her beloved hair up, and her botoxed forehead, all I could think of was how uncomfortable she must be.

  28. minx says:

    Boring, boring, boring.
And she doesn’t have the features to carry off a chignon. Unflattering.

  29. Lila says:

I’m disappointed in Jen’s choice of dress, she could have upped the ante and dressed fabulously yet she choose to be safe and boring.

As for her behaviour, it was rather obvious that she was a bag of nerves the minute she arrived on the red carpet. Despite her usual spiels during her presenting duty, you can see she was very tense. Was she expecting too much? Her hard work campaigning certainly didn’t come into fruition. Anyway this is only Round 1, let’s see what the final tally will be come February.

    • Karen says:

Agree. You have every designer at your doorstep and you choose this? So boring! She does not know how to rock the movie star look. Amy Adams, Reese, Julianne-their hair, makeup, jewelry, dress fit and color really take chances. Personally I hated all of her choices for the Cake tour. I did not that like the updo-but better then usual flat ironed mess. She went overboard on the orange spray tan. She has a long face so those long earrings drew attention to her long chin. I think you need to be taller to carry off the high slit although she has nice legs. The halter top cut her off and made her look boxy. It kind of reminded me of a nice bridesmaids dress. Bridesmaid dresses are made to be neutral-so you don’t take way from the bride. This dress was made to blend in. Maybe on a Charlize Theron it could have looked more special because she has the looks and height. Since Jen is not a beauty.

    • I am surprised–this is her first GG nomination for a movie, and she wears a boring black dress that makes her girls look droopy, and makes her look like she’s sucking it in (and it’s worse in the Lainey pics–she should’ve upped it a size)……she looks uncomfortable in it. The only thing good about it was the earrings and the slit.

  30. paola says:

It feels to me like Jennifer should have left her hair down as much as Amal should have put her hair up.
Justin Theroux was wearing much more make up than Jennifer. He looked orange like a tangerine. It seems to me like they have zero chemistry. Can’t picture them having sex or kissing each other passionately.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

I get the same vibes from them. Almost like they’re just friends and he’s her escort for the evening. I thought when they first got together, they at least acted like they were “hot for each other.” Or something like Justin said at one time.

      • minx says:

And she looked a lot older than him last night. Nothing working with that, but there wasn’t a hot cougar/younger stud vibe; it was just meh.

  31. Gia says:

That looks like my high school homecoming dress from the 90’s.

    • funcakes says:

I couldn’t put my finger on it but you nailed the look. The look as though. They’re trying to fit in with the popular kids . They’ve been in this business long enough to know what to do.

      • Anon says:

Lainey pulled up the pictures from Globes 2003. Same type halter dress, hair up. Black color. Nothing anew.

  32. Mrs. Darcy says:

I don’t love it, but agree she got her hair right and it shows off the halter/her shoulders nicely. So points for not totally the same boring hair look for once. The tuxedo belt is weird, I don’t think it adds to the dress.

  33. siri says:

I do like her (crisp) style here, but the over- tanning, and that makeup, makes her look harsh.

  34. GoOnGirl! says:

Still say she has had her jawline and her ears done. But someone told me she did that with fillers. Either way, something was done to her face. I believe that’s the reason she is wearing her hair off her face now. Don’t like the dress. Makes her look too matronly. And it emphasizes her weight gain. Her date looked the same as he always does. Bad! He just doesn’t have a good look.

  35. Bea says:

They should have used whatever superglue it was to hold her ears back to lift her boobs 3 inches higher and close the slit 6 inches lower.

  36. minime says:

oh please! Bermuda triangle again? The cut of the dress is completely different…then we would have to say that all the women wearing dresses with slits were copying Jolie. Plus she already used very similar dresses before (yes, apparently she also likes black a lot, she must be copying someone again because no one in the world loves to dress mainly in black) . I think she looks pretty good in here minus the orange tan.

    • doofus says:

      regarding the leg…

I was googling pics of past award shows because (as someone noted), I’ve seen this look/dress before on her.

I found a pic of Aniston at the 2010 GG awards where she is wearing a similar dress, thigh-slit and all, and SHE is doing “the leg” pose. Not to say that Jolie copied HER as I’m sure Aniston wasn’t the first to do it either, but the idea that Aniston “stole” that pose from Jolie is laughable.

ETA: this was for minime at #54.

      • #63: I remember that, too. Glad you found it.

      • GoOnGirl! says:

I guess when Aniston did it in 2010, it wasn’t worth mentioning. Angie’s leg ended up with its own Twitter page.

      • Jayna says:

@GoOnGirl: The exaggerated leg pose at the Oscar’s was cringeworthy. I thought it was a joke, the way she threw her leg out there in an exaggerated way on stage at the Oscars. I really thought it was some kind of joke at first, but it became of big joke. I don’t think Angie expected to be made fun of at the Oscars and after. The guy came out on stage and made fun of it after, mocking her with the same pose. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen Angie made fun of. She’s usually beyond spot on at these events in how she handles herself, especially at the Oscars.

  37. Paige says:

I love the dress but I don’t think she should have worn her hair up. They are just too orange for me, especially Justin MY GOD

  38. FingerBinger says:

They both look good. It seems Justin,Jennifer, Matthw Mcconaughey, and George Clooney all went and got spray tans together.

  39. Pabena6 says:

I don’t think the Cumberbatch thing was a surprise – I thought it was the usual tired schtick they always write for these things. Even the “I was supposed to do this by myself” was scripted. And I thought both of them delivered said schtick really poorly – it seems almost impossible for the presenters to pull off the dreck they get handed really WELL, but I thought these two handled it particularly badly – nerves, what have you – and I say that w/ no dislike for JA and much admiration for BC’s abilities in general. They just had bad material to sell.

    • Brittany says:

I agree. To be honest…other than Tina and Amy’s opening monologue I was downright bored with the entire ceremony. My wife ended up grabbing her computer and ignored the last hour or so.

    • Agree. I saw it (because I watched JK Simmons get his award), and it wasn’t really funny/they just talked over each other, so you could barely hear/understand what they were saying. I think they should just have the presenters present…….leave the hosts with the comedic stuff….

  40. amp122076 says:

I like the dress, I just wish she would DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH HER LOOK. Jesus.

  41. anne_000 says:

This dress was made for someone taller, with perkier & higher breasts, and a smaller waist.

I’ve noticed that Justin also wears clothes meant for taller people. I think they both need to start imagining themselves as different than they are, physically and mentally.

  42. db says:

Boring. Snooze-inducing. Uninspired. there has to be a happy place somewhere between JLo and JA – and I think Viola Davis found it

  43. Ice Queen says:

    Boooooooring!

  44. Amcn says:

I don’t know much about this Cumberbatch guy but loved when she said “you were great in imitation game!” And he said “you were…great!” Like he had no idea who she was or why she was there. I always find her awkward and this was no exception. She’s not funny unscripted. I don’t care for the look. Her face is really losing that girl next door sweetness as she ages. And why does the boyfriend need to show every single tooth when he smiles?

  45. Iheartgossip says:

Even SHE knows she is undeserving for ANY award. You could read it all over her body language. She knows it’s a joke.

  46. Grant says:

She looks gorgeous. I love the earrings.

  47. daughterofjean says:

Pictures don’t do her justice. i thought she looked really pretty.

  48. kendra says:

Jennifer look was not good. What was going on with her face? Justin is always looking like he’s trying to find ways to break the contract. Sorry, but he is not good looking at all. Whatever look he is going for it’s a fail.

  49. jane16 says:

I think this is her worst awards show look. Hate the dress, and think the cummerbundy thing makes her look top heavy. Also, do not like her hair that way. She has one of the best heads of hair in the business, why slick it down and back like that?

  50. L says:

    Yikes! That’s all. Lol

  51. Nimbolicious says:

I thought she looked nice and very much herself. She loves the black dresses, and I do like the halter look a lot. At least she didn’t go with the usual hairstyle — or over-the-top boobage, as did others.

I just can’t with the orange spray tans, though. Especially on Justin.

  52. Angel says:

boring. always in black. this is jennifer’s very safe ‘uniform’. she needs a new stylist that will introduce her to some color and new cuts! dry dry dry. blech,

  53. Loca says:

Jennifer Aniston looks great love the dress love how buff and toned she is…. and Justin Theroux always looks hot to me he is so freaking gorgeous they are a hot couple and just look great with one another. As far as Jennifer Aniston’s movie she may or may not get an Oscar however the movie Cake is actually speaking for a lot of people dealing and living with any type of daily illness it may not be chronic pain but we can all understand how coping and living with something that is incurable unstoppable affects your life. Maybe some people aren’t at that point yet but at sometime now or later eventually everyone eventually gets afflicted with their health or an injury don’t be so quick to judge the movie. It speaks for a lot of people and I am proud she made it regardless.

  54. Not understanding how Jennifer is copying Angelina….that kind of crap is stupid and gets old. It’s a freaking dress. Unless we have some designer that gets drunk, and instead of spewing racist diatribes to the paparazzi, starts gossiping about how Jennifer wants all of her dresses to resemble Angelina’s past styles, then I’m not buying it. That’s just some crap you say when you want to stir the pot.

  55. Jessica says:

So I watched Cake (the screener is out there for anyone interested). The film itself is just ok. Very watchable, but nothing amazing, just a standard decent to good indie. But Aniston is pretty great in it. She does dark and acerbic so well, her comedic timing is on point and I really bought into her performance, which was surprising since I started the film from a mindset of analyzing her acting and it takes quite a lot to come back from that and actually just see the actor as the character.

In my opinion she’s earned a nomination with that performance this year. Not a win, but I thought she was better than Amy Adams (who’s awesome, but Big Eyes is terrible and even she couldn’t rise above it) and significantly better than Reese Witherspoon. I’d say her performance is on par with Felicity’s and Rosamund’s.

I should qualify, I think she deserves an Oscar nomination, but she wouldn’t even make my personal top 10 list this year. None of the obvious contenders would except Julianne, and she’s not at the top of my list. But that goes for every category, every year. The Oscars celebrates a certain kind of film-making and performance, and in that context Aniston more than earned her place.

    • SoSweet says:

Even if you discount Amy Adams do you really think Jen’s performance in “Cake” was better than Jessica Chastain and Marion Cottilard?
