Keira Knightley in Delpozo at the Critics Choice: tragic or cute?

I can totally understand how a pregnant lady might feel sort of barfy and tired and over it, and want to kind of phone it in for an award show like the Critics Choice. But look at Keira Knightley’s whole look! This actually took effort. She actually sat there, getting her hair and makeup done, trying on dresses and deciding that THIS was going to be the best look. Oh, Keira. How the mighty Fashion Girls have fallen! I said at the Golden Globes that it was like Keira’s pregnancy has made her lose her style mojo, and here’s further evidence. This terrible Delpozo gown. What the hell? It’s a bad color, the detailing is cheap, the train is too long and honestly, it doesn’t even look that comfortable for a pregnant girl. It looks like the kind of dress you have to constantly adjust throughout the night. So, is this better or worse than Keira’s Chanel Fail at the Globes?

PS…Benedict Cumberbatch was not there. Keira was representing The Imitation Game with Allen Leech and some other peeps. I will give Keira credit for something: her husband, James Righton, just gets cuter and cuter. She likes her men very pretty.

Also on the menu for bland fashion choices at the Critics Choice, here’s Carmen Ejogo. She’s the British actress playing Coretta Scott King in Selma. She’s GORGEOUS. But this peachy Emilia Wickstead was a mistake. I would have loved to see this beautiful woman in a jewel tone or literally any other color but peach. It seems like a snazzy bridesmaid’s dress and that’s just wrong. As for those pockets… um… no. There are plenty of cool ways to do pockets on formal gowns. This is not one of them.

Maybe Keira doesn’t feel good during this pregnancy. Idk, but something’s way off.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I wonder if she’s always had sort of a fantasy about how she would dress completely differently when she was pregnant, and her fantasy is turning out to be our nightmare?

      • RocketMerry says:

        Agreed.
Also, I have a feeling that all the clothes she’s wearing now would have been super cute on her if she were not pregnant. So maybe she struggles with really seeing how her pregnant self actually looks in clothes..?
She’ll probably be back to doing great fashion as soon as the baby will be born.

      • **sighs** says:

I’m with you guys. I was wondering if maybe she’s self conscious about being a little thicker? Most pregnant girls are the cutest when they accentuate the bump, not try to dwarf it. She’s not that big yet. Save the tents for your later months.

I had exactly the same thougtht. A bit like the women who wear maternity cloth as soon as they know they are pregnant…it’s sweet and funny at the same time.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I agree, so I give her a pass on all the bad spangles.

      • Janet says:

Spangles and a Peter Pan collar are an absolutely dreadful combo.

      • Greek Chic says:

Well her Globes dress was that hideous that this looks like a masterpiece imo.

      • Zwella Ingrid says:

@Greek Chic I agree. Globes dress was way horrible. Question, am I seeing theme colors of baby blue and spangle gold or brass in both dresses?

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Keira’s face still looks beautiful. I’m not loving her dress.

I sort of like the peach dress on Carmen, though I agree a deeper color would look fabulous, too.

  3. Pri says:

I hate how we ascribe actresses with fashion house contracts to be style icons. JLaw is with Dior, but in my opinion, not a style icon. Same with Keira and Chanel.

    • QQ says:

Thiiiisss More often than not Keira dresses like Tinkerbelle with a High budget and Is Never good, more like an Orgy of Ruffles and unflattering Ideas all in one Dress

  4. Jenny says:

She’s trying to wear her normal sack dresses on her pregnant body and it’s not working. It just makes her look like a huge square box.

  5. kri says:

I have not the words to explain this getup or my loathing for it. Jesus.

  6. jen says:

I think she wears what she likes, seeking to make herself happy. She’s always been quirky fashion wise.

  7. mkyarwood says:

I dunno. I might wear something like that while pregnant with nothing under it to stay extra comfy. I wish it was a darker blue, though.

  8. scout says:

Way better than what she she wore for GG!

  9. Lucy says:

I’m not too worried about this, actually. As jen said, she has always seemed to follow her own taste, and most of the time she gets it more than right. I’m sure this is just a phase, because apart from the unfortunate gowns, she’s glowing!! And I also agree with you about Mr. Knightley! He is looking FINE these days. And his own style isn’t bad either!!

  10. Janet says:

A Pillsbury flour sack with three X’s on it would have been better than that calamity she wore at the GGs, but this dress is still a major fail. I don’t get her style sense at all. Does she even have any?

Carmen Ejogo’s dress would have looked better in a jewel color and minus the pockets. That peach color would wash anybody out. Overall, it’s pretty, though.

  11. Tiffany says:

If this is the end result of being paid hundred of thousand of dollars to be a stylist in HW, then I need to move there because anybody can do it. My word.

  12. Janet says:

Duplicate comment. Mea culpa. iPad acting funny this morning.

  13. Jess says:

Keira’s face is starting to fill out and she looks so beautiful, but agree on the dress, not so good.?I actually love the peach on Carmen, I think it compliments her skin tone perfectly and I love the cut, hell I even like the pockets.

  14. Wren33 says:

That peach color definitely washes her out. Just like I’ve realized I cannot wear beige or off-white.

    • Vanessa says:

I hear you. I’ve always LOVED camel coloured coats, but I cannot wear that colour without looking like a pile of oatmeal. Beige can sometimes work, depending on the shade.

  15. Suzy from Ontario says:

I think she looks beautiful. I like the dress and I especially love that colour on her.

    • Livvers says:

I agree. I also suspect the harsh red carpet lighting + flash has washed out the colour a bit — like how the colour of Lupita’s Oscar dress last year was so different between photo and live feed. I also like that she’s stayed true to her own style, as fashion choices for expectant Hollywood mothers usually seems very limited to me.

    • Charlie says:

I love the look, from the dress to the makup to the hair, I think she looks amazing.

  16. anon says:

I like this look on her. The Chanel dress at GG was awful but it was pointed out that she probably didn’t have much choice as she has a contract with Chanel.
But this dress is very lovely. I don’t like the train “thingy” but I can see why the designer might’ve whanted it.

  17. Nibbi says:

pretty indifferent bout the fashion, just came to snark about that inane pursed-puckered-open lip-pose she always does, drives me CRAzy, starts to look so stupid and borderline vulgar

  18. tealily says:

I actually think they both look really cute! The peach dress is slightly too pale, but overall I like it.

  19. Bridget says:

Neither the GG Chanel or this look bother me particularly much. It’s not what I would choose for myself, but they’re pretty in a kind of girlish, whimsical style.

  20. Valois says:

I might be the only one, but I don’t hate her dress.
