Duchess Kate, William & George arrive in Mustique for two-week family vacay

waity mustique

This ^^ is not a new cover. This Hello cover is from Duchess Kate and Prince George’s Mustique trip last year around this time. The cover was actually a “scandal” because Kate and the Middletons pretty much set up this photo-op on the tarmac in Mustique, and when the British press people were like, “Oh, so now we can photograph George?” the royals fell all over themselves trying to explain why this kind of paparazzi shot was allowed (hint: it was allowed because Kate set it up). Anyway, I bring this up again because Kate and George have once again traveled to Mustique for the Middletons’ annual tropical holiday. Only this year, Prince William joined them, instead of heading off for a much-needed holiday with Jecca Craig (which is what he did last year).

The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has arrived in Mustique with Prince William and Prince George for the annual Middleton family holiday. They are believed to have joined Kate’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton, along with her siblings James and Pippa Middleton for the getaway on the Caribbean island.

Kate, who is six months pregnant with her and William’s second child, will be able to enjoy some rest and relaxation on the trip after a busy month which has seen her carry out a series of public engagements and celebrate her 33rd birthday on 9 January. The family will also continue the birthday celebrations when Carole turns 60 on 31 January.

The family are reported to be staying at the stunning $20,000-a-week Aurora Villa on the island, which features a private swimming pool and sun deck, plus a butler, chef and housekeeper to cater to their every need. The 45 foot swimming pool will also be perfect for Prince George to practice his swimming skills. The tot started weekly swimming lessons in the pool at Buckingham Palace ahead of his first birthday and is said to love splashing around in the water.

Mustique has long been a favourite holiday destination for the Middleton family. The island was the destination for Prince George’s first holiday abroad in 2014, although Prince William was unable to attend as he was busy studying for his agricultural studies exams.

[From Hello Magazine]

The Daily Mirror says that the vacation is supposed to last two weeks (or more) and it’s possible that William will only stay for a short time because of his pilot exams. William hasn’t been seen since Christmas in Sandringham, by the way. He hasn’t done any royal work this year and the excuse given was “he’s studying!!” But he can still find time to go on holiday, apparently. Anyway, we totally knew this was coming, but I have to give Kate (and the new American press guy) some credit this year: Kate managed to put in some royal work before her holidays. So, at least we can say she “earned” this holiday, I guess. We cannot say the same for William.

Also, I have some theories/questions. Do you think William came to Mustique this year because he was ordered to stop vacationing separately from his wife and child? Do you think the Queen or Charles even said anything to him about his trip last year with Jecca Craig? Or do you think William came this year so he could SHUT IT DOWN if Kate tried to set up another photoshoot with George?

I’m looking at Christie Brinkley’s sensational 60-year old legs instead…

    • Biki says:

Me too, she is so …. I am jelous…

    • Choupette Lagerfeld says:

      Yup…

    • Delta Juliet says:

Me too! And let me tell you, no matter HOW GREAT my attitude is, I will never look like her, at 40 or at 60.

      • Sea Dragon says:

There’s no denying she hit the genetic lottery but those legs have been maintained by a TEAM of trainers, nutritionists and all of her support people abiding by similar fitness and healthy food standards.

Speaking of looking 40, Kate does.

      • Seriously serious says:

Indeed. Jennifer Garner (42) looks YOUNGER than Kate (33).

    • Sarah says:

Take a look at Susan Sullivan’s legs. She is on the show “Castle”. She had a scene where she wore an above the knee dress to a funeral and her legs were STUNNING. She is in her ’70’s and she has a great figure.

  2. Loopy says:

It makes all her charity work look insincere, if she was busy making all those appearances just so there would be less outrage when she rests for another 2 years how do these charities feel?
And that is a lot of money for a 2 week holiday, are the Middletons paying for this?

    • anne_000 says:

If the protocol is that if a Royal is a patron of a charity already, then another Royal can’t choose that charity too, then I’d be pissed if Kate chose my charity.

I wonder if they get a huge discount or even a free stay because the resort wants free publicity.

      • FLORC says:

There were rumors going around a charity wanted to seperate from Kate after cancelling a fundraising auction from lack of ticket sales and seeing her only 1 45 minute event a year. This was also about the time (I think) it was found all her secret meetings with charities were bs. Feathers were smoothed out though.

      • anne_000 says:

Yup. That would be my worry. Her lack of real commitment would affect fundraising, which is the only way a charity can exist.

      • Seriously serious says:

I wonder how it has been “smoothed out”. The only way I can imagine it has been smoothed out is by somebody writing a big cheque for that charity to make up for the losses. And if that happened I doubt it was a Middleton cheque and certainly not a Royal cheque. The latter never pay for anything.

      • FLORC says:

        Seriously serious
Not sure. The rumor went that the royal courtiers convinced them it would be bad to drop Kate. Like she did them no harm being a patron. And that’s kind of true.

  3. LadyMTL says:

I love the idea of George taking swimming lessons. Beware, anyone else in the pool! He might try to drown you! LOL. Honestly, I think that kid is the most interesting thing about Will and Kate.

    • Katenotkatie says:

That child is a holy terror. I totally agree- he’s barely a toddler and has more personality than the two of them combined.

  4. aims says:

I don’t know how far along she is in her pregnancy , but i was active through out. I was told at the eight month mark to quit traveling. Now her pregnancy is way more protective then mine. It is a concern though.

    • Bucky says:

The story literally says she is six months pregnant. Like, it’s right there in the text. Don’t be a concern troll.

    • notasugarhere says:

We were fed the line repeatedly that she was violently ill and couldn’t work. So yes, her traveling to Mustique for vacation put the lie to that. Will the rest of the populace ever catch on? Let’s hope so.

      • FLORC says:

        Nota
To be fair her morning sickness would have lessened by the time she left. I think a better example was how Kate was cancelling appearances left and right, but managed to go sledding much closer to the time she was said to be violently ill all the time.
What the issue is here is simple. They can’t simply say Kate has morning sickness. Or that her symptoms are acute, but managed. They go all out and the press carries it like she’s near her death bed to deliver her child. Then we see her smiling, shopping, and with a perfectly normal and healthy amount of weight on her. Much like a woman who had normal morning sickness, but nothing extreme.
That’s what really ruins that excuse.

  5. someonestolemyname says:

We knew it! Did we CB’s call this or did we call this!
    She’s soooooooooooooo predictable!

  6. OSTONE says:

Not going to lie.. Is cold, rainy and muggy where I am. I wish I was a Middleton jetting
    off to Mustique right now.

    • wolfpup says:

Nooo – you do not wish to be society climbing wannabes Middleton(?!) – you are merely asking for your turn in Mustique.

Theoretically, one might enjoy being waited upon – and knees bending whenever you enter a room.

  7. vava says:

I doubt William will stay the entire time, but he is putting in an appearance with his in-laws. Jecca was probably busy this time. 🙂

    • someonestolemyname says:

Carole’s 60th, he probably had to make an appearance for good measure and I believe Carole is still his favorite female in that family. LOL. 🙂

I think he probably will sneak away on his own holiday with friends too, once back.

      • anne_000 says:

Yes, it’s her 60th b-day and William would get some nagging from the Middletons if he didn’t pay homage and it got out in the media that he snubbed her b-day.

    • FLORC says:

I thought William never stays the whole time with Kate while on vacations. He always arrives with her, leaves without, or arrives without her, leaves with. Or Arrives after her and leaves before her. Never with her both ways. Even their newly married falklands vacation he sent her home early and stayed a few more days, right?

The exception being royal related events in with vacations.

  8. Carolina says:

Don’t they get tired vacationing in the same place every year? If I had the money to vacation like that I’d visit a new country every year to learn about their different cultures. It seems kind of boring to go to the same place all the time but maybe that’s just me.

    • Kiki04 says:

I have a feeling laying around doing nothing in Mustique is right up Kate’s alley…….

    • Delta Juliet says:

Yeah, but their “work” entails traveling around the world and spending time in different countries, so it would hardly seem like a vacation to them 😉

      • anne_000 says:

They have off-days or ‘vacations’ within their international work schedules. So it may not be actually seem like ‘work’ to most people who go on actual business trips.

    • anne_000 says:

Iirc, when she went to NYC recently as a Duchess, Kate said she’s always wanted to visit there even though she could have seen it before her marriage since her family is rich enough to have paid for a trip. So I’m thinking that was a lie or a statement made just for PR purposes and/or she didn’t go pre-marriage because it could have been a lack of intellectual curiosity mixed in with an obsession not to be too far away from William in case another woman tries to snag him.

As for why Mustique, I’m wondering if the resort gives the Middleton a major discount or free stay in exchange for the publicity.

Also, I don’t think the Middletons are intellectually curious of the world outside of what isn’t part of their own social climbing goals. They don’t seem to have an interest in anything or anyone else who aren’t related to their plans of hobnobbing with rich folks and Mustique is probably where the Middletons think their target social circle goes.

      • Hazel says:

I agree. Interest in other cultures doesn’t seem to be in their wheelhouse. Sun, water, and lying around, or snow, slopes, schussing seems to be it for them.

      • FLORC says:

        Anne
Kate could have always wanted to go, but didn’t. It happens. There was talk she’d apprentice some photog to NY, but that didn’t happen.
And Kate’s lack of travel without William is easily explained. She was without William. Her life was built around him. Most notably her Jigsaw job. Her Jigsaw boss built Kate work hours that would allow her to leave at a moments notice if William requested.

Maybe the 1 most here will remember better than I can. William asked Kate to travel to see him for a vacation. She leaves prepared for a stay. He meets with her for an hour or 2 and sends her home.
So, she couldn’t just vacation anywhere. She needed to remain focused.

But yea. I don’t think she has many interests outside of her immediate family and William. Not much depth has been seen from her in so many years.

    • Hazel says:

Oh, no, not just you, Carolina. I’d do the same, too. And I remember reading the book, ‘Blood, Bones, and Butter’, in which the author (a chef), talked about ‘having’ to go to the family vacation home in Italy ever year (that would be her husband’s family). Boo hoo, right? At first, she loved it, but after awhile, year after year, she came to dread it. It wasn’t just the place, of course, but the family dynamics as well.

      • *North*Star* says:

That’s what Diana thought of Balmoral and Sandringham too! Lol

      • FLORC says:

Just as I dread my inlaws. Visiting and hanging out with my mother in law was enjoyable. Now (that i know her) it’s something I dread and actively seek to avoid.
        Family dynamics are terrible.

    • notasugarhere says:

Isn’t this a serious security issue? They go the same week every year. We know this, so presumably other people know it too.

  9. Sharon Lea says:

Anyone know if they take a family vacation when it’s Kate’s father’s birthday? How much time does Kate & William spend socializing with just Charles & Camilla? Do they ever come over for tea?

There was a grainy picture one of the royal correspondents had on his twitter timeline about 2 weeks ago (I think it has been deleted), Kate driving, Pippa in the passenger seat and George in the back seat, and William in the car behind, off to spend the weekend with the Middletons. It made me wonder how much time they spend with Charles & Camilla.

I’m so bored by the Mustique vacation, it’ll be an annual thing, and I’ll click on it hoping for something interesting and it’ll be ho hum.

    • Chrissy says:

I can’t see Charles and Camilla dressing down and letting loose.
It wouldn’t be much fun for Bruiser Georgy to be forced to sit still
      so nothing gets wrecked.

      • FLORC says:

I bet they’re good fun! They both have a quick wit about them.

And you have to remember. Charles and Camilla are very busy. Kate and her family not so much.

    • DiamondGirl says:

I would bet that a lot of Charles and Camilla’s family time is spent with her kids and grandkids.

    • Sharon Lea says:

Chrissy – ha, I’m not sure Charles even owns a pair of jeans.

DiamondGirl – yeah, I’ve read Camilla has spent quite a bit of time with her grandchildren. Her granddaughter was in Kate & William’s wedding, she was a cutie. I think they visit her at Raymill House. Hmmm…maybe Charles just likes being on his own.

      • LAK says:

Chrissy/Sharon Lea: lots of pics of Charles back in the day on a beach including the silly ‘action man’ Prince PR images of him windsurfing in very tiny shorts.

There is one picture of Charles that i’ve seen in which he is wearing jeans. Seems to be a polo match in the early days of his marriage to Diana.

As for whether or not he unbutton on holiday, he does take an annual cruise round the greek isles. He might surprise.

However, we do have recent pictures of Camilla in a bathing suit on a yacht in Majorca from 2013, lying in the sun, reading trashy novel.

  10. Kiki04 says:

Hahaha already? We all knew it was coming, just didn’t know it would be so soon. Gosh, these jokes just write themselves……..

    • someonestolemyname says:

      They are such a joke.
Can’t wait for the British press to write their syrupy articles about How she needed a break!
      So stressed, yada, yada, yada!

  11. BreeInSEA says:

Everytime, all I see is the heavy eyeliner. I cannot get over it.

  12. anne_000 says:

“Kate… will be able to enjoy some rest and relaxation on the trip after a busy month which has seen her carry out a series of public engagements …”

Tail wagging the dog. Their PR is making it sound like they decided to go on a vacation only after she got so tired from working so much.

I think William came because all of his friend’s schedules were booked and because it would look bad for him to ditch his wife on a vacation while she’s six-month pregnant.

  13. Chrissy says:

Wow, just from the first picture above, you really notice how much she
uses filler and Botox when not pregnant. From the jowly face and droopy
eyes, she looks to be in her mid-40s. I guess the smoking doesn’t help.

    • Delta Juliet says:

I agree. In my mind, she is much older then her chronological age. She looks so harsh.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

The sunning, cigs, and extreme weight loss have not done her face any favours. I didn’t realise she looked so aged until that closeup.

      • FLORC says:

        Lots of people don’t.

      • Racer says:

The skin on her face literally looks like its sliding off, what is that about?! And don’t tell me smoking and the sun. I smoke and love the sun and still get carded for wine and smokes. It has to be a combination of her disposition and unhappiness- it can age you just like stress…..and she can’t possibly be stressed.

      • *North*Star* says:

Actually she very well could be stressed. Adjusting to the BS of being a royal isn’t as easy as it looks.

      • Bucky says:

@Racer I know that as a rule, smoking is terrible for your skin, but I swear the effects seem so variable. I have two friends who smoke, only a year apart in age, and both have been smoking since college. One looks a good 10 years older than her age with deep lines around her mouth and on her forehead. The other is fresh-faced and dewy and looks eternally hydrated, and younger than her years with nary a wrinkle. So weird.

      • LAK says:

And yet that picture is photoshopped.

      • Seriously serious says:

        @ Racer
Good comment! Sums it up nicely.
I too believe that unhappiness makes you look older than you are. And yes, unhappiness causes stress. I think in a few years Kate will realize how much she missed by being on William’s beck and call and by not even trying to get a job / a moderate career. And when she realizes it … oh boy. Maybe she will throw herself into her royal role and do a lot of charity but I think that is very unlikely.

However the really scary part is that Kate looks old ALTHOUGH she has the best cosmetic treatments and she probably always had had the best because her family ain’t paupers.

      • FLORC says:

Lol LAK! She does appear to still be smoothed over.

Kate shouldn’t be stressed. She’s been so cared for and I doubt she’s trying to be better. Improvement being the cause of stress. Although, she’s never really been pressured to do anything before. She’s had this bad skin for ages now and so do Pippa and Carol. Very harsh features and deep forehead wrinkles.

I would imagine wondering where your husband is could be stressful though.

    • ataylor says:

Yep. Girl looks oooooooooold in that second pic. I can literally count her frown lines. That is disturbing considering she’s barely in her early 30s. Wear sunscreen y’all!

    • Loopy says:

Does she smoke during her pregnancies?

      • FLORC says:

        Doubt it.

      • Chrissy says:

Not that I know of but I understand that the effects of smoking on skin elasticity etc. hang on after you quit.

      • Citresse says:

I hope she doesn’t smoke while pregnant.

      • FLORC says:

We know she smokes. I just doubt she continues to while pregnant. George came out healthy.

      • Citresse says:

I’m surprised William would marry a smoker. Diana and Charles were so health conscious and I think I read somewhere they wouldn’t allow guests to smoke in their homes.

      • FLORC says:

        Citresse
William smokes too. So does Harry.
And Diana might not have smoked, but she wasn’t exactly good to her body either.
(No clue if Diana smoked or not.)

    • anne_000 says:

With or without the effects on the skin by smoking, I don’t think she has a good skin and makeup regimen.

She could have decreased the size of the bags under her eyes with the use of cucumbers, hemorrhoid meds, or whatever expensive creams she can certainly afford.

She could use a good scrub and lighter coating of foundation.

But I don’t think she’s the type of person who would listen to any advice from a makeup or skin expert and probably isn’t self-disciplined enough to follow a regimen.

      • Bucky says:

I do wonder about the bags. Origins GinZing costs $30 and is AMAZING at de-puffing eyes. I use it all the time when I haven’t gotten enough sleep or something.

      • FLORC says:

Fresh Brand products are great for reducing eye bags.
Engagement period Kate emerged with a fresh new face. It was rumored she had liposuction to reduce her double bags on her lower lid. Small nose job too.

If you look back Kate has thick double bags. They’ve been greatly reduced since then.

  14. scout says:

Kate’s hair looks gorgeous, pregnancy hormones! Good for them to go for holidays as a family in dead Winter. I wish my family could fly off to Nassau or Cancun right now.

  15. Citresse says:

Yes, William’s arrival may make pap shots more difficult I don’t know. Perhaps we’ll see Kate’s six month belly? She’s not looking as well as her first pregnancy. Or she’s just not aging well?

    • FLORC says:

No matter which parents George takes after he will hit a super cute phase and get really old looking really fast.

      • Citresse says:

FLORC- I have a bad feeling about Kate’s future re- her health?
On her wedding day, I thought she looked great. A little too thin but nothing to worry about. But I recall feeling something ominous about Kate’s future. Then when I searched online, it appears I’m not the only one. Maybe she has some health problems and the palace is keeping it quiet? That would explain the limited engagements.

  16. AmyL says:

I know many of you are much more knowledgeable than I am on this subject…

Is there any thought that last year’s pap photo was planned to shame William in the court of public opinion by pointing out that he wasn’t on vacation with his wife and child?

Does it stand to reason that without Kate’s pap photo William might not have been discovered on a separate vacation with Jecca?

I am curious to see what the royal experts think about these thoughts… Is their anything to this line of thinking or am I just reaching?

    • anne_000 says:

I think the press would have known where William was even without the pap with Kate & George.

Did the photos make William’s absence stand out even more so? Probably.

    • FLORC says:

William was officially suppose to be studying hard for his Cambridge bespoke certificate. That’s why he was said to not be on vacation.
Didn’t Tanna get those hunting shots?
I know it was Tanna who said with those photos Jecca was William’s “Camilla”.
Tanna gets the scoops. He’s always there like he has a crystal ball. Or the Midds are feeding him info.
Just like how Tanna was planted at the side entrance of a hospital Kate drove herself to when sick with George. From all the times, to hospitals, to entrances. He picked that location and entrance. Same with the birth. Details only any Midd would know Tanna knew. Like the inside of the car they took.
So, yea. I think there’s some shaming going on.

  17. FLORC says:

Off Topic – This header photo is a great example for all who say she has tattoo eyeliner. Her right eye’s lower lid is more easily seen straight on and it’s maybe a light pencil with mascara at most. Clearly no tattoo. Just had to get that in there.

  18. Amy says:

Hahaha I love this article. “A series of public engagements.” Because meeting a bunch of children is just so exhausting! Well I hope she recovers from all that strenuous activity. It was such a frenetic pace, you have to admit.

She should do more public engagements with little George.

  19. wendi says:

I’m jumping on the Go Christie Brinkley bandwagon!! She looks awesome – retouching or no retouching she looks years younger than she is and (unlike Kate) looks so healthy and full of vitality!

  20. Deedee says:

My first thoughts: “Wow! Christie Brinkley!” and “Who’s carrying around that American Sniper baby now?”.

  21. Citresse says:

Shortly after she married William, even though I had high hopes, I said to someone that Kate has problems ahead. I felt something bad would happen to her. Perhaps an incurable disease? Anyway, a little while later I saw a video online of a well known clairvoyant also predicting something tragic. She doesn’t look good at all IMO during this pregnancy. The more I see of Kate looking run down and not engaged with the public, the more I wonder if bad times are ahead for her? Another individual read William’s chart and saw two marriages. William, a future widower?

    • wendi says:

Although I obviously have no insight into whether or not she has/will have an incurable disease, she clearly does not look healthy and has not looked healthy since her marriage. She used to be robust, full of life and slim yet not frail looking. Since marrying William – and even since the engagement – she has looked haggard, frail and older than her years despite the fancy clothes, hair and make up.

    • racer says:

I’ve read that also. Sad, but we all have a purpose….

  22. Feeshalori says:

It’s such a shame that Kate looks haggard and older beyond her years, but she’s got a dimple that I truly covet.

  23. Maria says:

I’d make a lousy royal: I’d be bored silly sitting around an island for two whole weeks. I’m one of those people who likes to go exploring when I go somewhere, even if it’s only to absorb art in places like the Uffizi.

  24. The Original Mia says:

Predictable. Well…not really. I don’t think many of us called William going with them. But it is Ma Midds’ 60th and he’s her favorite son…in law.

  25. Sam says:

Dammit, this woman looks mid 40s why? With all the money at her hand and all the one after another vacations she takes how come she looks like crap?

  26. SummerCBreeze says:

Catherine is chasing after a very active George, pregnant, mounds of stress as a Royal, the holiday stresses of all hostesses, charity engagements, shopping that is neverending in order to please the public, and she’s an older mum. Of course she’s tired and lacking sleep. She has a constant belly kick going on day and night. Easy up on her. She’s human, too.

    • FLORC says:

There are nannies caring for George constantly. Kate is not doing it all like your post suggests.
And the shopping to please the public? Much of her shopping we never see as she repeats only a handful of outfits, yet still shops.
And the holiday hosting? They skip out on most of that. There’s maybe 1 day of that.

Thing is Kate has always looked tired like this. Just like Pippa. It’s part of her resting face.
Her photos are often so touched up when a photo is less touched up she looks “tired”. When in reality she just looks more like herself.

In short you’ve making Kate sound like an average mom when she’s not. She has help, top medical care at a moments notice, and no reason to work.

    • notasugarhere says:

Thank you, FLORC. Kate Middleton is not a stay at home mother. She has multiple nannies, cooks, housekeepers, all of that — paid by taxpayers so she can WORK. She has a personal assistant to organize her schedule and do all of the prep work — for the three hours of work she has managed to do this month. To pretend that she is some poor, hardworking, pregnant mother of a toddler is just that – pretending. I doubt the public is demanding that she spend MORE time shopping to supplement the 70+ coat dresses she already has in her wardrobe.
