Emma Stone versus Rosamund Pike: who wore the better Dior at the SAGs?

I don’t know, you guys. Is it time to put Dior’s Raf Simons out to pasture? I think so. Starlet after starlet will walk the red carpet and announce proudly, “I’m wearing Dior,” like it’s the biggest fashion “get” of the year. And usually, the dresses are pretty bland, if not actively bad. At last night’s SAG Awards, two of the most-watched Fashion Girls wore Dior and I pretty much hated both of the looks.

Let’s start with Emma Stone’s Dior. First of all, I don’t care if we can see a lot of leg, the top part of this is just ancient. It’s way too “old” for someone so young. The sheer fabric at the bust and at the skirt doesn’t even look luxurious or anything – it just looks like a cheap negligee with a giant tuxedo jacket on top. Something nice, something nice… let’s see, from the neck up, she was fine. Very pretty makeup and jewelry. Her hair was kind of meh. Great red lip. Emma won a SAG as part of the Best Ensemble for Birdman.

And here’s the other Dior-wearer, Rosamund Pike. Pike tried to sneak through the red carpet at the last minute, unlike her appearance at the Golden Globes, when she arrived early and everyone hated her #WangFail. I’m sure Rosamund will miss out on a lot of Worst Dressed Lists just because a lot of people didn’t even notice her. Well, let’s say it all: this is a mullet dress!! And worse yet, it’s like a prom dress that was dyed black. The fabric reminds me of a quilted bedspread. Ugh… I don’t get this at all. And I don’t even like her styling either.

Emma looked awesome. Best look of the night.

  2. ds says:

I think Emma looked amazing. Simple, with bold red lips. I loved it – design flaws aside – she rocked it.

  3. JESS says:

Emma Stone ALWAYS. She is so beautiful.

  4. Kaya says:

I’m not gonna criticize these actresses, because I’m positive they don’t dress themselves. But seriously, they’re supposed to be wearing high-end designer stuff? Really? What the hell is wrong with Dior?

    • AG-UK says:

After Galliano it hasn’t been the same. I do like Emma’s outfit but all the others are just sort of umm ok. Dior seem to love the strapless bodice thing.

    • Megan says:

they didn’t dress themselves but Rosamund need to say “oh hell no” when she looked in the mirror.

    • Anne tommy says:

Don’t like either dress. Two beautiful women though.

    • Mary-Alice says:

Raf Simons is wrong with Dior. Raf’s vision just doesn’t match Dior’s. Dior has always been a classy feminine more romantic fashion. Galliano made dreams, Raf can’t.

  5. icerose says:

    Emma-nice clean lines

  6. Charlotte says:

Emma’s skirt has just begun its year of mourning.
Rosamund looks like a beautiful, exhausted new mum.

  7. Kiddo says:

Jennifer Aniston dress with a mass of mosquito netting or a widow’s veil at the wrong end.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

      Jen’s dress looked cheap.

      • Kiddo says:

I’m talking about JA’s ‘typical’ tailored mini-look. I didn’t mind the dress that she wore to this event, from the photos, I’m not in love with the color on her, but I wouldn’t describe it as ‘cheap-looking’.

  8. Someonestolemyname says:

Emma Stone’s makeup and hair look beautiful, flawless, her dress or suit coat or whatever, reminds me of things I’ve seen some girls wear in Las Vegas when they are dressing up.
Emma’s outfit or whatever it is, It’s just so dated and been there done that with every designer in the 90’s.

Jennifer Anniston, seems to be trying to outdo Kate Hudson’s vavavoom white dress from a few weeks ago, but It’s NOT working for Jen. On Jen these low cut V chest exposed just look like low swinging doors and try try hard. Not feeling it Jen. Stop trying so hard.

Rosamund needs to SACK her stylist for all of these last award shows. Beautiful woman put in overdone looks. She just needs to keep it classic, not go for over the top or edgy. She’s so beautiful ,but these clothes are just a big mess on her. Love her though. Stunning and amazing work in Gone Girl!

  9. Lucy2 says:

A sheer skirt and a mullet skirt in the same post, ugh.
Emma looked gorgeous. I preferred Rosamund’s Globes styling.

  10. Beth says:

Pike’s dress is a disaster. Who wore the better Dior? Shouldn’t even be a question.

    Love Emma’s red lip!

  11. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Emma looks beautiful – I’m just so tired of sheer. So cheap looking.

Wtf is Rosamund wearing? I mean, I see no excuse for that.

    • Renee says:

The sheer part DOES look cheap. The whole look is bad but that’s the worst part of it. I’ll be glad when this trend goes away. I don’t like the putting together or two incongruous styles look either.

    • Kiddo says:

The sheer part looks tacked-on, as an after thought. It’s a lazy way to try and make this very ordinary, almost business look avante garde chic or dressier than it is. I think it’s silly.

  12. Ginger says:

I loved the one photograph of Emma’s dress where the train of the gown was blowing in the wind. It was lovely in motion. But still you are correct, it does look like a nightgown with a tuxedo jacket over it. Otherwise, her hair and makeup are stunning. I really don’t like Rosamund’s dress at all.

  13. Esmom says:

Emma pulls this look off, I think. I like everything but her hair, it looked too underdone to me.

I like the idea of Rosamund’s dress, it has some interesting elements, but the cut does her no favors, she looks pregnant again. Hair is pretty if a bit frizzy.

    • Kiddo says:

Rosamund’s dress would have worked as a mini. I think that dress is straight out of the 60’s ‘mod’ design, except for the heaviness at the bottom.

  14. Gill B says:

Ema looks great – the Dior is mediocre, but the outfit suits her. I didn’t actively dislike Rosamund’s dress, but she is certainly not knocking it out of the park. Mind you, she’s probably exhausted, so I admire her for simply turning up.

  15. Anny says:

No no no. I hate this look. Either wear a mini or a gown. I hate mullet dresses and this sheer nonsense. She looks good but the dress is awful.
Rosamund looks okay but definitely nothing interesting.

  16. lunchcoma says:

Emma looks way better. It’s odd and I don’t love it, but at least it’s clean enough around the neckline that shots from the shoulders up look good. Rosamund’s dress is bad the whole way through.

  17. Luca76 says:

    I love Emma’s dress!!!

  18. hilda says:

stone is just drop dead gorgeous

  19. Lydia says:

Rosamind recently gave birth and is most likely requesting anything to cover her torso and her idiotic stylist is coming back with a few monstrosities. Not her fault!

    • jen2 says:

I might agree with that sentiment, but she has already worn some fitted dresses, so no need to cover up now. I just think the dress is just plain ugly, though she is beautiful.

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah, she looked amazing at a few other events. She could do something kind of loose or flowy, but these choices just are too big and strange.

  20. scout says:

Again, what’s the deal with that mess of a dress, Rosamund? She is a beautiful woman but…
Look at Emma’s dress, elegant and beautiful, I loved her Pant suit at GG as well.

  21. Marianne says:

Emma’s was the better look. Its not personally my kind of style, but at least it was something different and interesting and the most “high fashion” look.

Rosamund’s dress could have been a cute cocktail dress, but the mullet part is unforgivable.

  22. Newgirl says:

    I really like Emma’s outfit.

  23. Debbie says:

Emma no question! She is bringing fashion to the red carpet this award season and I love it. She has yet to miss.

  24. kennedy says:

Emma looks great. But the hair is just no for such a pretty/vampy ensemble. She’s so beautiful.

Oh god, my dear Rosamund Pike. I want her to win on the red carpet SO badly. This woman has gotten out of the world raves for a huge blockbuster sensation and is suppose to be this years IT girl. What is going on! Who in the world is being paid to pick these horrendous ensembles on such a beautiful woman??!!!

She had such great style going into the Jack Reacher tour — do you guys remember the beautiful green Elie Saab gown or yellow McQueen she wore a few years ago? WHERE IS THE COLOR??!!!

I’m #pikeamania forever but girl needs a new stylist ASAP.

  25. poppy says:

wow. there was a mix up in the cuts.
there should be no sheer skirt and the “coat” cut longer.
the mullet should have been cut shorter. all the way around.
i like the idea behind the dresses but they are cut wrong for these ladies.
