Julia Roberts in a Givenchy onesie at the SAGs: pretty or unflattering?

A lot of people loved Julia Roberts’ Givenchy ensemble as soon as she came on the SAG carpet last night. I just picked up on the sillhouette at first, and I did like it. I like Julia in a sleek, tailored, menswear-inspired look. But I thought this was a slim-cut suit and it’s not. It’s a ONESIE. So… no. I don’t like this on principle. Can we make this a rule? No onesies on the red carpet. Please? But! There is some nice stuff to say. For one, Julia isn’t doing that horrid blonde shade anymore and the red looks gorgeous. Her hair overall was the best it’s looked in years. Her makeup was amazing. And the Givenchy showed off the perfect amount of cleavage.

By the way, did everyone enjoy how Julia made presenting an award all about the most important person in the room, Julia Roberts? You know why? It’s because she lost her award. Julia Roberts deigned to do a TV movie and no one has given her any awards for her efforts! So when she got up there to present Best Actor, she had to remind everyone that her costar, Mark Ruffalo, won and that she worked with him and he probably wouldn’t even EXIST if not for Julia Roberts, and it was like she knew we were all desperate to hear how Julia Roberts felt about Mark Ruffalo winning an award.

Meryl Streep barely posed on the red carpet, because let’s face it: Meryl has no more f—ks to give. You might even say that the awards shows were trolling her with all of her nominations this year, just trying to prove a point: that Meryl Streep will literally get a nomination for ANYTHING. And at this point, Meryl is tired of getting all dressed up and trying to “work” a carpet. Besides, she knows she’s not going to win this year. So Meryl wore this completely normal and uneventful Lanvin dress. Full disclosure: I would love to own this dress. I love a wrap dress with sleeves. But this looks like something Meryl already had in her closet, and like something she’s worn to at least four other events (this year). Hey, at least she got to hang out with JULIA.

Extremely unflattering. The way she’s standing she doesn’t even look comfortable in it.

  2. Rae says:

It looks way too tight across her midsection.

    • Hautie says:

What is ironic is that Julia has no waist. Her hips and waist are the same size. So there has to be a corset involve here, to give her one. And the outfit was still poorly fitted for her body.

      • SamiHami says:

Of course she has a waist. Her hips and waist are not the same size. She just often dresses poorly and gives that impression.

I do agree that this outfit was not fitted properly. It’s a shame. If it had been, she’d look pretty good.

  3. Charlotte says:

Her boobs look fantastic, but no to red carpet onesies.

  4. lisa2 says:

I like her hair color.. Maybe if the pant part was more of a flare pant leg.. and different shoes.. I don’t like the peek toes with this.

  5. Lucy2 says:

I thought it was okay at first until I saw that it was a onesie that didn’t really even fit her! Too tight in the waist, just looked odd. And I totally noticed the presenting stuff, she’s too much.
    Meryl looked great.

  6. Someonestolemyname says:

    Not feeling it.
Her face and hair look pretty though.

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Boring and boring.

    • mimif says:

      Like Sixer & Kiddo.
P.S. Choreography class is at 8pm sharp! (drinks first at 5 tho)

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’m starting drinks early because “Thunder Snow!!!!” is coming.

      • mimif says:

Balls. Pace yourself Lilacflowers! We’ve got embarrassing dance moves to coordinate.
P.S. The SeaChickens are going to crush Thunder Snow, dontchaknow?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’ve been practicing and practicing – the drinks anyway.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@mimif, I’m pacing, I’m pacing. The sky is so white. There’s a lot of snow about to dump itself on us. Actually won’t be surprised or upset if the sea chickens win, they are a really good team and the Pats weren’t supposed to make it so far at the start of the season. I’m a good winner and a good loser, just so long as the refs don’t influence the outcome.

Now, back to sip something with lots of vodka and practicing my dance moves and snow angels. I’m thinking white chocolate martinis because thunder snow

      • mimif says:

But I want to drunk argue! *steals Lilacflowers’ vodka and wee wees on her snow angel*

  8. Esmom says:

Agree that onesies are a RC no-no. This one is really unflattering, I think it makes her look matronly. But her hair and makeup look great, it’s like her head doesn’t match the rest of her.

Meryl looks lovely, simple and elegant.

  9. Ginger says:

I too thought Julia was wearing a pantsuit last night when I saw the red carpet photos. Now that I see it close up, yah it’s not great as a jumpsuit/onesie. I do love her hair color but I’m biased towards red.

  10. Elizabeth says:

I’m not a fan of Julia’s style but I like this pant suit. She looks really good. I don’t think the SAG’s are as glamorous as the Oscars.

BTW my favorite part of the show was Julia’s fake smile when she lost another award!

  11. Anny says:

I love her look. Makeup, outfit, hair – it just works! I normally hate Julia but I must give her that one. She looks awesome. Meryl should have worn something tad more fitted. This dress ages her a bit.

  12. Lilacflowers says:

Julia always makes presenting about her. When she presented the Memorial segment at the Oscars, she made it about her. When she presented the Oscar to Denzel Washington, it was as if he was winning an Oscar because he had worked with her years earlier.

  13. lunchcoma says:

Julia’s onesie isn’t horrid, but it’s a ling way from being great. As for Meryl, she’s never cared much for fashion. I often get the feeling she does only as much as she has to – which I don’t mind, because she does meet that standard well enough to be professional (unlike some men on red carpets).

  14. serena says:

You can say all you want about Julia and her ego, but looked amazing, truly gorgeous and I love her with reddish hair!

    • Becky1 says:

I agree. She looked great. I like that she doesn’t seem to be doing a whole lot of Botox-ing. She’s aging well.

  15. Enn says:

But how do you go to the bathroom??? Take the entire thing off to pee?

  16. Marianne says:

I agree about Julia. Could have been a killer look if it was a 2 piece suit.

    Meryl looks underdressed.

  17. Scarlet says:

    Crazy eyes.

  18. Jayna says:

I thought it was a suit when I saw her present. With the auburn hair, which looks great, the black looked great on her, but I liked it better when I thought it was a suit. But she looked amazing last night and was glowing, but the one-piece should have been a two-piece.

  19. Janet says:

Meryl looked dowdy; no other way to put it.

  20. The Other Katherine says:

    Dear Julia,

Please stop trying to make formal jumpsuits happen. We didn’t like them the first time around.

    Sincerely,
    The Public

  21. Josephine says:

She has never had any style. I don’t think she has ever worn a red carpet look that I liked. Usually she looks so dowdy. This outfit isn’t dowdy, but it’s really flat and ill-fitting.

  22. Talie says:

It was a bit annoying that she always has to make everything about HER. It’s like, calm down Julia. You’re right… she thought it would be a cake walk to all these awards just because she did TV. It’s not like that anymore though — there’s too much talent on TV. This isn’t the 90s.

  23. icerose says:

    frumpy and boring

  24. Dancinancy says:

Another black suit looking thing. Must be Julia.

  25. Cici says:

It would have made an amazing blazer but as a onesie -hell no. The hair color looks the best it has been for a while though.

I’m still happy that Julia has returned to red carpets after been away from them for years.

  26. Cindy says:

“he would not even EXIST if not for Julia Roberts”
right, none of us would exist if not for julia roberts, thank you julia roberts, we are forever in your debt…

The onesie is awful. Meryl Steep looks beautiful however.

  27. poppy says:

she’s been tweaking her face but her hair color is much better.
poorly fitted mistake below the boobs on down. what a mess. those “slit” pockets -NO.

if meryl is tweaking she’s doing it right.

  28. Deb says:

omg, Meryl’s dress looks like she got it at the church rummage sale. She really has no f*cks to give!

  29. Anare says:

The jumpsuit is an ill-fitting mess. She is one of the most obnoxious people ever. She can disappear again for all I care. Not a fan.
