Claire Danes in army green Marc Jacobs at the SAGs: cool or weird?

21st Annual SAG Awards
Claire Danes’s style can be hit or miss. She takes risks often, but they haven’t been paying off as of late. That’s why I’m somewhat impressed with her green Marc Jacobs gown. It has a lot going on; there’s a cutout at the ribs, an industrial-looking wrap belt, a crisscross neckline, and circle appliques along each side. Somehow it all works together, and just looks cool. Her styling is so pretty too. I would lighten up the black eyeliner, but that’s a minor complaint.

Also in green is SAG winner Patricia Arquette, who has been sweeping the Best Supporting Actress category this awards season. I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m looking forward to her Oscars speech. She’s in Vivienne Westwood, who also dressed Sophia Bush. There’s something off about the draping as a whole, but the neckline is lovely. I really noticed the detail on camera. Here’s Patricia’s acceptance speech. She always seems so genuine and I loved what she said about her kids being perfect and how her family has been acting through feast and famine. Patricia lost her mom, Olivia, in 1997, and she ended her speech by saying to her mom “you are my hummingbird you are always with me.” That got me choked up.

21st Annual SAG Awards - Red Carpet

Lorelei Linklater is 20 years old. I can’t believe it, but that’s the magic of Boyhood. She’s very goth and cute in an Honor gown with bell sleeves and a lace back. I bet that she had a hand in designing that gown. It looks like several outfits I owned in the early 90s when I was around her age.

Lorelai Linklater was hands down worst dressed to me. Those sleeves are super ugly. Plus, she was awkward as a presenter.

Claire Danes was better dressed than she has been of late, but I still wasn’t in love with her dress.

    • mimif says:

It works for her body, but I don’t like Claire’s dress either. The brassy hair and harsh makeup aren’t doing an otherwise beautiful woman any favors either.

      • Kiddo says:

It’s better than the boxy looks she typically wears, so I give her +1 for most improved, she has a nice figure. I wish the belt was different though.

      • mimif says:

Yeah the belt is throwing me off too. I want to like it, but…no.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I like it except for the belt, which looks like she pulled it off of a raincoat when she lost the real one. This’ll work.

      • mia girl says:

Somehow this dress with the mini body-snatcher alien pods is working for me. But I agree that her hair is just too brassy.

    • Megan says:

I have been looking for the belt to my winter coat. Turns out Claire Danes borrowed it.

  2. PunkyMomma says:

I tear up every time I hear Patricia Arquette’s acceptance speech. It was lovely and I though she looked just lovely.

    • Gea says:

I just loveeee Particia and her speach. As for Claire, she looks good and her style have improved dramatically here. She is One of my favorites, her performance in Homeland was so good last season.

  3. tifzlan_ says:

Lorelai Linklater is like the real life version of April Ludgate!

  4. mimif says:

So much fashion crime scene tape for this post, I don’t even know where to begin.

  5. smee says:

Sorry, but Lorelei Linklater looks like she has her (ugly) dress on backwards!

Claire Dane’s dress looks kinda terrible to me as well – it doesn’t fit very well, the belt looks like it came off of a Duffel bag and that color is very dead-looking and flat.

It’s kind of hard not to like Patricia Arquette. She looks better in that dress than Sophia Bush did, but once again, that color.

    • Chris says:

Re: Danes: I thought the dress was more well-suited for a different body type–the top really did nothing for her chest ( I just spent 3 minutes deciding which is less creepy to write: chest, breasts, or boobs–going with chest).

      • smee says:

“chest, breasts, or boobs” – they all work!

Yeah – the fit is too loose thru the torso and it’s riding kind of low thru the “chest” plus all the added bulk on the sides. I feel like she’s worn that twisted halter neckline before and it was way better.

Now you should see the t-shirt shirt & sweats I’m wearing currently – flawless!

      • Lempicka says:

This plus surely their stylists will want to make sure the fit is not allowing the complete breast shape to be visable? Not saying she needs to be padded or anything…

  6. Maria says:

For Patricia, I’m impressed, she has a unique style sense to say the very least.

I liked Claire’s look, the color suits her nicely.

    The other dress is tacky.

  7. Beckysuz says:

Even though the eyeliner is much too heavy , I love how the green dress brings out her eyes . And her hair looks good! She has thin hair but it looks so full here

  8. QQ says:

This is better than most of the stuff that she’s worn the past year and change so Is a win

Also that girl from Boyhood?/ No Baby, NO

  9. MrsBPitt says:

Dear God…did you see when Patricia Arquette went up to introduce the clip of Boyhood!!!!! The top of her dress had slipped down and OMG…Her ginormous boobs were almost falling out!!!! I couldn’t take my eyes off them…I think I have post traumatic stress syndrome!!!!!! I had to close my eyes when getting ready for bed last night so that I wouldn’t see my itty bitties!!!! Sorry, I’m always jealous of big boobs!

  10. lucy2 says:

    Lorelei’s dress is just odd.
I’m happy for Patricia winning. I haven’t seen Boyhood yet but I’ve always liked her as an actress and her acceptance speeches have been nice. I don’t like the asymmetry of her dress though, but the color is pretty on her.
Claire’s is odd but better than some stuff she’s worn.

  11. Allie says:

Hate Clair Danes. Love that dress.

  12. Carrie says:

I was okay with Claire’s dress till I got to the belt.

  13. Insomniac says:

This is silly, but I love Patricia’s glasses when she reads her speeches. I find that very endearing for some strange reason. Stars – they have crappy vision just like us!

  14. Sayrah says:

    Danes looks great to me.

  15. Is Lorelei the director’s daughter?

And the kid from Boyhood is HAWT.

  16. bns says:

Claire is always interesting from the neck down and super boring from the neck up. Her hair and makeup and that tan are giving me Real Housewives teas.

  17. Cindy says:

Claire Danes looks amazing. Not so crazy about the belt, but otherwise I like it. Can’t wait for new season of homeland to get to Netflix so I can binge watch.

  18. poppy says:

i like that shade of green.
the marc jacobs dress fits well but has too much gobbledy-goop going on.
    PA’s fits her perfectly.

as for the black franken-dress… looks like someone went to a vintage store and cobbled 4 different items together, all of the yuckiest polyester.
are those bell-bottom pants parading as sleeves? seriously, WTF sleeves!

  19. kitty-bye says:

I like the green! Interesting dress style too.
