Taylor Swift won’t perform at the Grammys, will dance in the audience though

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift out and about in Hollywood on Tuesday and Wednesday. She had two costume changes for the paps, and both costumes involved legs for days. If I had Tay-Tay’s legs, I would be showing them off too. But I worry about her miniskirts. That brown suede mini is WAY too short. I’m assuming she has, like, bloomers or hot pants on underneath, because how could she not? How can you wear a skirt that short and not be constantly worried that your butt is literally hanging out?

So, what’s up with Swifty this week? Lots. This week she became the second woman in history to have TWO albums on the top of the Billboard charts for ten weeks. The first was Whitney Houston. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you feel about Swifty’s live performances), Swifty will not be performing any of her hit songs at the Grammys on Sunday. She wrote on her Tumblr this week:

Hey guys! A lot of you have been asking about the Grammys this week and I just wanted to give you an update. I’m really excited to be nominated for 3 Grammys this year and even more excited that I’ll be there having a dance party/rage fest in the audience. I will also be presenting the award for Best New Artist. Since my whole life is wrapped up and entangled in the planning of The 1989 World Tour right now, I’m not going to be performing on the Grammys this year. I need this time to focus only on the tour.

I hope I’ll see you out there at one of the stadiums this summer having a rage fest of your own!

Love you.
Taylor

I don’t think there’s any conspiracy with this. I believe her – she’s prepping her tour and Swifty’s tours are very important to her (and that’s how she makes most of her money too), so she didn’t have the time or energy to put together a Grammys performance. But she’ll be there, dancing in the audience.

Last story: you know how Taylor applied to trademark “This Sick Beat”? Yeah. Well, people are freaking out about it and one punk musician named Ben Norton wrote a protest song using phrases from Swifty’s album, like “This sick beat,” “party like it’s 1989” and “cause we never go out of style.” You can hear his song here. The New Yorker also ran a hilarious parody of other phrases Swifty could try to trademark, like: “Welcome to Newark”; “I Am an American Citizen”; “My Name is Hillary Clinton, and I Approve This Message”; “How Did You Get This Number?”; “Taylor Gyllenhaal”. YES!!!

Swifty is the best awards show audience celeb ever. She really gets up and dances and shows supports to all the performers on stage with an air of abandon. I honestly think that’s sweet as sometimes celebs out there look like they are bored stiff. Her support of other artists on stage I think is cute.

All this working out in the gym last year has really paid off. She’s always had nice, long legs, but her legs seem more defined than they ever have been.

    • RocketMerry says:

You know, for me the odd thing about Swifty is that when I thought that all these cutesy award show behaviours and faces and moves and OMG expressions were honestly who she was, I was so annoyed by her.
Now that I understand that she is actually a very calculating business person who works non-stop and carefully builds her character based on marketing data for sales purposes, I really, really like her.

I respect her work ethic more than anything she has ever done or said: very impressive when one things of how young she still is (25 y.o. I think?). I want her to keep being a successful business woman.

    • Green Girl says:

She tends to sing along with a lot of the performances, too. So not only does she look like she’s having a great time, she’s showing respect to her colleagues – “Hey, I not only listen to your stuff, but I like it and listen to it enough that I can sing along with you.”

I don’t blame her at all for wanting to just sit (OK, dance…) in the audience during the Grammys. She’s got enough coming up.

  2. LadyMTL says:

Yeah, if I had legs like that I’d be wearing short skirts too…but not quite that short. I draw the line at “will I be x-rated if I sit down in this?” 😛

  3. Kiddo says:

That guy in the back looks like he was fleeing a robbery scene, caught the camera and said, Ah sh–.

  4. Senaber says:

I’m a little obsessed with that black outfit. Is that all one piece? And I think it’s super smart of her not to over saturate any more. Hold out for your tour, Swifty!

Taylor Swift, the savviest woman in music. Who knew?

    • SnowGlow says:

I don’t think so you can see the tiniest bit of skin and the shirt is sorta tucked in. It is a GREAT outfit, minus that stupid hat.

    • Veronica says:

I want to yank the skirt down 2-3 inches to make it more balanced, but I otherwise think it’s pretty cute, too. Something I would have worn when I was in my early twenties.

  5. Brittaki says:

She looks soooooo 90s in that last all-black pic. I’m pretty sure I owned those shoes and that hat when I was in middle school.

  6. Tifygodess24 says:

Rage fest? Haha When I think of raging the Grammys is the last Place that comes to mind. Maybe a Barely moving Pop Dance party – sure. lol But it feels like raging to Taylor would be something like not cooking the cookie dough all the way. ” oh gurllllll we are sooo bad”

  7. Allie says:

I think I get annoyed with Taylor dancing in the audience because it takes away from the performers spotlight. Sometimes I just want to watch the actual singer perform, and not see Taylor on the camer for five minutes. She knows that the cameras will flock to her if she’s dancing crazy so of course she does it. You can stand up and enjoy the performance without taking attention away from the performer, but Taylor hasn’t learned that yet.

    • Moffa says:

That’s my take too. If it seemed like she was actually jamming out the the performers, great. But I always got the impression she was hamming it up for the camera. You can enjoy yourself without going overboard and becoming the discussion of the performance, rather than the actual people on stage. She knows it will be another headline for her.

    • SK says:

I’m sorry but this is just a miserable point of view. I love live music and I view it regularly. I always dance along! Some people can’t help it, the music gets into you and you move. It’s much better for the performer if people in the audience are having a good time and visibly showing it. I’ve performed too, and people dancing and singing along is brilliant. People sitting or standing otherwise not moving is not ideal to perform towards. I honestly cannot understand criticism towards her on this front. As a performer she would know it’s better to have a fun audience. She’s knows she’s a terrible dancer and she has been mocked mercilessly for it; but she’s never “too cool” to dance along. Instead she turned it into a hit song. I’m not a massive fan, her most recent couple of songs are the only ones I kinda like; but I admire her for what’s she’s managed to achieve. Sitting back and nitpicking her for enjoying herself is just ridiculous.

    • Elyse says:

@SK What is the point of being on the website if not to nitpick on celebrities. I’m sure you don’t criticize little things?

This is not a normal concert, it’s an award show with cameras. She wants publicity (she might not need it, but you cant deny that she enjoys being the center of attention), and that’s the way to do it. I think what the performer wants more is focus from the camera and audience at home.

  8. Caity says:

I’m pretty sure the skirt in the second outfit is actually a skort. Zara had a ton of those last year.

  9. scout says:

It seems the older they get, the shorter the skirts become. Odd skirts here, usually she wears good looking dresses.

Reese should trademark “I am an American citizen”, she OWNS it! Haha…

    • Veronica says:

To be honest, I think a lot of it is her height. My mother’s 5’11”, and one of the reasons she gave up wearing knee length dresses and skirts in her thirties is because it was hard to find any that were cut long enough for very tall women. They either hit you at the wrong place in the waist, or they’re hiked up 2-3 inches higher than they’d be on a shorter woman. Taylor probably doesn’t bother to get them altered because she’s still young enough to pull off the miniskirt look, but as she gets older, I won’t be surprised if that behavior changes. It starts to look too twee after awhile.

  10. Tiffany says:

Even dancing at the Grammy’s I still believe she is a robot.

  11. SnowGlow says:

I’m kinda disappointed I wanted her to sing “Style” but I’ll settled for watching her dance in the audience or better yet wait til tumblr makes some dancing GIFs.

  12. Veronica says:

Of course she’ll be dancing. If you like nothing else about her, you must admire her enthusiasm. She throws herself into being the best. audience. member. ever.

Her tours are pretty good, too, from what I’ve heard. The girl can’t sing well enough for me to think she’s worth seeing live, but my one coworker said going to one of the shows with her daughter completely reversed her opinion on Swift. Apparently, it’s a lot of fun and falls in line with her claim that she goes all out for her fans.
