Robert Pattinson says he popped valium before Twilight audition

Robert Pattinson annoys the crap out of me. I can’t really say why, I just do not like him. And it’s a powerful dislike. He strikes me as creepy and way too into himself. Bad combination.

Rob just told GQ that he popped some Valium before his “Twilight” audition to help with his nerves. Somehow that doesn’t make him come across as less skeevy to me, though I suppose I can understand his reasoning.

How did Robert Pattinson land his role as sexy vampire Edward in Twilight? “I took half a Valium and then went into this thing — and all this stuff happened,” he tells April’s GQ of his audition… It was the first time I’ve ever taken Valium,” he later adds. “A quarter. A quarter of a Valium. I tried to do it for another audition, and it just completely backfired — I was passing out.”

Still, he won over costar Kristen Stewart, who plays his love interest, Bella. “Everybody came in doing something empty and shallow and thoughtless,” says the actress, who demanded that he get the gig. “…Rob understood that it wasn’t a frivolous role.”

As for his love life, he tells GQ, “There’s literally not a single [true] story that could be written about me.” “There’s this thing about my supposed girlfriend,” he goes on. “There’s this one girl who’s consistently mentioned. It’s like, ‘He’s dating this Brazilian model.’ … What’s her name —- Annelyse [Schoenberger]. I’ve never met her.”

And he never popped the question to costar Stewart, either. “I said that in some interview, as a joke — ‘Oh, I proposed to her multiple times,'” he says. “And then it gets printed: ‘On the set, he proposed multiple times.'”

Of Camilla Belle (with whom he’s been photographed), he says he didn’t steal her “from the Jonas brother.” He says she’s “the nicest — she’s a saint” — but insists they’re just buds… I don’t see people. I don’t even have people’s phone numbers,” he says. “I almost don’t want to have a girlfriend, in this environment.”

[From Us Weekly]

I like how he went from half a Valium to a quarter in under three seconds. Nice. I’m not sure I buy his “I’m not a player” thing. I mean there are a lot of women that he has to explain away. And the rumors sure didn’t seem to bother him until recently. The guy is just a little too smooth.

Rob also told GQ that he wouldn’t care if he didn’t act again and all the fame went away tomorrow. That strikes me as a quasi-dangerous thing to say. It’s like you’re daring fate to mess with you. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really see him having a long career. He’s too lackadaisical and glib. It sounds like he got the Twilight role because he actually cared and brought something to the audition, but in the GQ interview it really seems like he doesn’t give a shit about much else. Passion makes for a long career. Apathy makes for a flash in the pan.

Eh, I can see where he’s coming from. He’s 22 and attractive, so anyone who expects him to sit at home every weekend is holding him to much higher expectations than they hold others. And just imagine that every time you are seen with, smile at, hug or talk to anyone of the opposite sex, it gets photographed and splashed on a magazine. We’d all look like whores.

i still don;t get “it” about why girls cream their pants over him .

Even the character he plays .

He strikes me as the Johnny Depp reluctant celebrity. I can only take one of those and Johnny has the bankable talent to pull it off.

It almost is a slap in the face for those actors or actresses out there who work hard to that type of recognition and work.

Not sure what it is about him. Maybe he’s trying to be humble and it is coming off all wrong. Don’t know. At least he isn’t arrogant.

haha, i have that exact same laptop carrying bag. Office Depot…HOLLER.

Hehehe. Me, too, Ash! Although mine’s a little worse for wear since my roommate’s cat ate the corners off of it.

I know what you mean about not liking him. There is just something….SOMEthing…I am not sure what. He has a funky aura, I bet that is it.

I have to agree. It’s hard to like him now in his Twilight fame, and I find that very sad. I thought he was adorable and giggly and trying very hard to be professional in his work when he had just done the Harry Potter movie. I hope he really is still that guy underneath all the vampire press and just doesn’t know how to handle the media.

Also since when did Kristen Stewar gain enough clout in thisw industry to “demand” anything, let alone demand Robert being cast.

    *Stewart*

  10. crys says:

how can you say he is “too into himself” when the boy dresses like a hobo half the time and could care less that half of american’s tweens are in love with him?

    america’s**

I think I prefer the breed of reluctant celebrities. I would much rather have the aura of mystique about actors and actresses than know what they had for breakfast every morning or what club they were at the night before.

I think it helps their credability in roles if we dont know a whole lot about their personal lives.

Rob’s 22, cute (besides his weird jawline), and moderately successful in Hollywood. Surely he’s allowed to be a player at this point?

    I HEART ROBERT PATTINSON!

Nice role model stuff–when you’re psyched out, just pop a Valium. 😮

I actually really like him. He’s funny and self deprecating and seems smart.

I haven’t seen too many interviews of him lately, but he was great in the interviews for Harry Potter.

I once popped half a valium before I gave a reading. I was about his age at the time, totally took the edge off!

Does anyone remember being 22? I couldn’t imagine being 22, rich and not having to worry about anything(except dating, going outside etc)Can’t say I’d trade my life for his .I can at least get my mail with holes in my pj’s and not have to worry that it will be on every blog.

  17. Bodhi says:

I like him too. As far as I can tell, most of the Twilight kids seem pretty grounded to me

“I still don;t get “it” about why girls cream their pants over him”

nice tween imagery there thanks. am I on the barely legal site?

  19. Jacqueline says:

I just love him! He is absolutely divine and very funny!

  20. Lucy says:

I read the GQ article. I don`t blame him for trying to protect the people he cares about. I would lie too. I just think he tried too hard. He could have talked about ANYTHING else, and he mentions that and her name. They might not be dating now, but to say he NEVER knew her? He made it too obvious for me, that he was lying; trying too hard.

  21. sarah says:

i agree that this article has made me think twice about him, if he really is a player he has definetly gone down in my books, what about that article that said a young woman on the 2nd of march was seen yelling at him asking why he hadnt called her back , if he really is sleeping with all these girls in hollywood it will come out eventually, he has to watch his back and realise all these girls just want a piece of the next ‘it’ guy, egs are megan, paris, natalie etc..

  22. FF says:

It’s going to be interesting to see how long he lasts in the business. He and Stewart seem made for each other with some of the quotes that come out of their mouths.

More Taylor Lautner posts then, please.

  23. maddie says:

i agree with some of you,
i mean of course, you can’t deny at all that you find him attractive in the littest way. But i beleive when he says he doesn’t really talk to people much and stuff. about the love life too, hes so….self counscious. I read a article where he said hes never seen more than 10minutes of any of his own films. he ran out of the twilight premire and had a panic attack in his car. most ‘normal’ actors watch their movies. he doesn’t. I like the books better than the movies, i don’t go ballistic each time robs name is mentioned. No one really noticed him in Harry Potter or any of his other movies. Why the big fuss now? he still looks the same as he did back then!

  24. eezc says:

I like him though. All actors are a little too into themselves – if they were not in the least narcissistic, they wouldn’t be able to stand in front of rolling cameras and portray a character perfectly.

I think the main thing about him doing this well and beating out so many other candidates who obviously wanted the role more – was because of the chemistry he had with Kristen – it made him more natural, more compelling.

I do believe that he’s laid-back and a player – but it doesn’t substract from his personality. I think he tries to be honest. The basic drift is there – he took valium to ease the tension – why haggle over half or quarter of it? He’s an actor for god’s sake – the whole industry is a lie.

The best thing I lke about him is his self-confidence and sense of humor. Not everything has to be serious, passionate and off into the deep. Humor helps big time especially in times of stress and fame 😉

I hope he does stop acting!!!!!!! He gets on my nerve.
