Keira Knightley doesn’t want to do fourth ‘Pirates’ film

knightley-pirates-400a050807

It doesn’t sound like the fourth installment of The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is off to such a hot start. The producers got Johnny Depp to sign on, which is good. But, as we reported yesterday, they were going to try to cast British comedian Russell Brand as Captain Jack Sparrow’s long-lost brother. However Brand might be too busy to pick up what would most likely be a hefty paycheck to hang out on a tropical island and act weird (which he already does all the time anyway).

Now the latest news: Keira Knightley has no interest in reprising her role of Elizabeth Swann. Keira says, “I think it’s done.” Silly girl. Doesn’t she know that a franchise isn’t dead until the producers have squeezed every last single drop of joy and pleasure out of something? OK! has more:

The good news for fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean films is that Johnny Depp has already signed on for the fourth installment, but the bad news is that Keira Knightley will most likely not be making another appearance as Elizabeth Swann.

“It was a completely fantastic experience, and it was an amazingly large portion of my life, but I don’t think I need to go there again,” she tells Moviephone‘s Inside/Movies, “I think that it’s done.”

However she has no bad feelings about her former castmates or towards the Pirates movies at all – in fact, she’ll be first in line for tickets!

“I’m very excited to see the next one,” she reveals. “And [Johnny] is so wonderful in that character. I think it’ll be wonderful.”

[From OK! Magazine]

That’s a classy way of handling it. If it was any other actress, I might make a remark about how she thinks she’s too good to return to the role that made her a star, but I don’t think that’s the case with Keira. She’s actually a really talented actress, and her role in the Pirates franchise is pretty boring for an actress. Perhaps she just didn’t want to make out with Orlando Bloom again. Who could blame her? I bet that dirt-lip itches.

  3. I’ve never been a fan, but that was a classy way of handling it and she’s smart to get out now. I think she’s dodging a bullet.

  5. and good on her, i don’t agree with making another with the same cast anyway. focus on johnny depp’s character, or don’t do another one. i mean, really, four of these movies? I really loved the movies, but I think Kiera’s right on this one.

  7. I think she exited with class. I’m sure they can find someone with a different style and presence to insert a ‘female’ angle into the next film. A spicy actress with attitude. Why not Kate Beckinsale as a rival piratess? LOL That movie doesn’t need Keira, sorry.

  8. Well that was a classy way of backing out. I’m still not too fond of her. Bring on the Depp and Brand(damn it)!

  9. I haven’t seen the POTC movies so I can’t say with 100% certainty that they’d be fine without her but really I think she’s replaceable.

  10. Rickie Gervais would be a great choice for Captain Sparrow’s brother. Can you imagine those two playing off each other?

  11. Ricky played a kind of pirate tigerlille, in the movie Stardust :) Very funny, would be funny to see him in POTC

Agree - I’m not a huge fan of keira, but I’d love to see Johnny back as Captain sparrow .. I absolutely loved him (and the character hehe)

  12. OzGirl, thanks for pointing that out! I never put it together that Gervais played the Fence, now I will have a new level of appreciation when we watch Stardust again.

I’ve found all three of the POTC deadly boring, but worth sitting through just to watch Depp frolic as Jack Sparrow.

Good. The treacle that was the faux-mance between her and Orlando Douche was annoying. ANd by the time they got to the 3rd movie her acting had become overly grand and screechy. Gone was the cute tomboyish girl who actually acted instead of just being the girl. The storyline in the 3rd one where SHE became a Pirate king or whatever which resulted in Fat being shuffled off the screen to allow this incredibly stupid storyline to continue. We’re supposed to believe that she could OUT SWORDFIGHT GROWN MEN WHO HAVE BEEN FREEBOOTING FOR YEARS - how would one account for her sudden prowess? - Does she gain sword fighting skills by “injection” from Bloom’s character?
More the likely the producers pressuring the writers to find a way to play up her character to ridiculous heights. It honestly almost ruined the picture for me. Instead of focusing on Depp’s and Rush’s characters and the wonderful actor who played Davy Jones whose name I just went blank on - this guy acted circles around just about everyone. The syrupy overacting of the youngsters relationship was just annoying. Give me
the 3 principles and a BETTER script please. Or and instead, make Brand as Capt Jack’s son, THEN bring on Keith Richards and let the 3 of them VIBE offa each other. Groovy. Sign up me hearties - yo ho’!
Johnny Depp might the most beautfiul man alive. Rubber Ducky Jr is a sex thimble. Want to have Ed Norton’s children (seriously). ;D

  16. I work in the entertainment industry so I pick up bits of info. As far as I’m aware Disney didn’t want Kiera Knightley for this as the franchise is going off in a new direction that has nothing to do with Elizabeth or Will.

We weren’t watching the movies for them anyway….

  17. The first one was excellent, the second set up the third which was a disappointment….with that said

Johnny Depp is worth all the drivel and bad plots out there. Looking forward to his movie Public Enenmy(ies) He as Dillinger and Christian Bale.

who even cares if the plot is good? Not me.

  18. She doesn’t want to get paid millions of dollars to hang out with Johnny Depp for a few weeks? She needs a psychological examination.

  19. Good. The movie will be MUCH better without her. She has never been believable as a romantic interest in those movies. I just pity her when I see her on the screen; she is an average-to-poor actress at best and she is so underweight that she looks extremely unattractive.

Face it; why would a good looking guy like Orlando Bloom go for a malnourished bobblehead? Nothing attractive about a sack of antlers.

  22. Sorry, that comments as nothing to do with the actual topic,
but I desperatly want to confirm something that a friend told me.
Is that right that Keira Knightley was the one who insert the kissing scean with Johnny Depp in potc2?
I know its weard altought that I foud no clues about it elswhere
but my frind pretty sure about it as she study in cinema (or something like that) … anyway
Ho! and she say too that potc ruin the career of Johnny Depp that is why he does’nt want to do the others movies … but she say he will becaus of the money and becaus of the harassment of the producer ?!?
(that too I did’nt foud it anywhere)
So please tell me that she is wrong so that I can shut her over confident mouth for her made opinion and fake argument !
