Kanye West on his Grammy moment: ‘The voices in my head told me to go up’

FFN_Kardashian_West_GG_021115_51650619

Here are some photos of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian out and about on Tuesday and Wednesday in NYC. Kanye is in town because he’s launching something or another. Anyway, we’re still talking Kanye’s temper tantrum at the Grammys, or more specifically, in his post-Grammy interview with E!. A lot of people thought Kanye was just joking when he rushed the Grammy stage as Beck was trying to collect his trophy for Album of the Year, but in the E! interview, Kanye name-checked Beck directly, saying that Beck needed to give his trophy to Beyonce and basically saying the Grammy producers need to show more respect to “real artists” like himself, Beyonce, Jay-Z. Rather than respecting Beck. Well, Kanye went on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show yesterday to explain/apologize. Some highlights:

Why he stage-rushed Beck: “You know, I felt like just the whole Grammys, right when that happened, everybody was looking at me, and then people started screaming, ‘Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!’ Okay, that didn’t really happen, these were voices in my head. So the voices in my head told me to go up, and then I just walked up, like, halfway up the stage.”

He didn’t intend to disrespect Beck: “You know, what I really wanted to do is just joke around with what had happened before [with Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs], but I just really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk, because, you know, the Grammys, they play music really quick no matter who you are and everything. So I didn’t want anything to take away from his screen time. So I just walked back down because, you know, it was kind of a joke, like the Grammys themselves.”

Kanye likes Beck: “Well, first of all, Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game. So there’s nothing that I would want to do as a fellow musician to disrespect him in any way.”

He likes a jolt of truth: “The weird thing is — and I don’t feel like I have the right to take away from people’s moments, but the reality of it is — it’s almost like a chiropractor. You know, you just get a little crook out, like, ‘Wow, this crook has been there!’ It’s just a little jolt of truth, right? And then, you know, everyone feels better after the fact, or everyone sells way more albums after the fact, and then Kanye just goes on being an a–hole to everyone.”

His comments about Beck on E!: “Well, you know what happened? It’s because I sat there and I kind of let that [smolder] and I was asked my opinion and I was given a platform. And when given a platform, it’s very hard, as we know — and I’m going to talk in third person like I’m a crazy person — but it’s very hard for Kanye West to not be very true and vocal to what he feels… [But] I think it came off the wrong way, and that was a mis-wording on my part, because obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists and respects artistry. But I felt — and this is my opinion and he’s his own man and he’s not wrong and we’ll still go play basketball and stuff [unless] he doesn’t want to do it — that even though the Grammys sometimes give awards to people who you wouldn’t think should win in the category, as a respect to artists, we mention the other artist’s name in our speech…”

[From E! News]

Wait, is Kanye saying he plays basketball with Beck?! Just my opinion, which I feel like I’ve written a million times this week: I didn’t think it was bad or disrespectful that Kanye stage-rushed Beck. Beck was into it, it was funny and self-referential, and even Prince laughed. What bothered a lot of people (including Shirley Manson!) were Kanye’s comments on E!, where he really did disrespect Beck’s music and Beck as an artist. And that’s why Yeezus should apologize to Beck directly. As for the voices in Kanye’s head… I’m pretty sure he’s joking. Right? Right.

Oh, and Kanye also talked about Taylor Swift in this interview. He claims Tay-Tay told him that he should have stayed on stage with Beck and that Taylor saying that to him was “the irony of my life!” He also claims Swifty “wants to get in the studio, and we’re definitely going to go in.” He stated, with regards to Swifty: “I don’t discriminate. I don’t have an elitism of music because of how many Grammys or, you know, the amount of ratings you get on an album.”

What an absolute despicable piece of sh*t.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Exactly he is. And no, most people were upset he made someone elses big moment about himself even if he was joking – Which personally I will never believe he was. Kanye played it off and I think this Interview is all PR spin in one way or another. Beck handled it graciously because he’s a gentleman not because it was a cool thing to do.

      • heebeegeebee says:

Exactly, no one should be ok with Kanye’s stage rushing antics, joking or not. It took attention away from Beck’s moment. Beck in turn is only being gracious. Kanye is a fool, he is not brilliant, or cool in any way.

      • Michelle says:

I’m really glad to see people who aren’t calling Kanye “brilliant” for change. I’ve followed his career from his first single, “Through the Wire” in 2004 and he has never been lyrically gifted (his verse is the weakest on every track he’s featured on with other artists!), and I don’t find him to be all that original, but I will say I’ve always liked his production and I do think that’s where his true talent lies.

His guest feature on “Get By” by Talib Kweli opens with the lines: It’s something about that Nina Simone’s piano flow/It’s like a Michaelangelo painted a portrait of Maya Angelou/ And gave it to a sick poet for they antidote

….What does that even mean? You’re not a good rapper if your lyrics a) don’t make sense b) are just words thrown together because they sound similar or rhyme.

Bound 2: I wanna f*ck you hard on the sink/After that, give you something to drink/Step back, can’t get spunk on the mink

        A genius? Really?

      • Anna says:

LOL @Michelle he is a genius. Listen to New Slaves, Murder to Excellence.. There’s so many songs that shows how lyrically brilliant he is but you’re purposefully taking songs that have fun, more simple lyrics. This reminds me of people who compare rock artists with rap artists and always take a “socially consious” rock song and the most basic rap song to prove how horrible rappers are when all it does is show the racism of the poster.
Maybe you can’t see the brilliance behind the lyrics because what he’s speaking about (racism, prison system) doesn’t affect you?

      • moodgirl says:

        He’s nuts.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Taylor Swift and Kanye are recording together, so I guess she’s over it.

I like it He drives some up the wall and still sells millions of records all over the world.

He gives me laughs, I think he totally knows what he’$ doing.

      • Avery says:

Ah you believe his bullshit , like how Swift came to him “right after” it happened and told him he should have gone on the stage.

She wasn’t even in the audience when it happened.

Ah what did she say ” hey wish you had ruined someone elses moment like you did mine , you know that stunt you pulled that took me 6 years to even say hello to you”

Kanye’s a parasite who leeches on to people more popular, famous ..( wife’s case infamous) then him.

      • 237 says:

No he doesnt. He is a mentally ill, little, insecure, whiny man-child

    • alicegrey12 says:

The voices is my head drove me to do it. Kanye you are one mentally ill sick puppy! Beck deserved his grammy because he has talent. Kanye you need to understand you have no talent. PLEASE Kandork GET OVER YOURSELF.

  2. Greata says:

Hope the voices tell him it is time for therapy.

    • denisemich says:

I kind of let him off the hook before because he was dealing with his mother’s death. Maybe he still is but I agree he needs therapy. A 37 year old man, should have impulse control and he doesn’t.

The sad thing is that if he and Kim got divorced tomorrow he would not get custody of North West.

On another note, this scandal has been great for Beck. After a 20 some odd year that settled into obscure selling of music he is selling again.

      • alice says:

Oh, please. Let them stay together for fifty years. That way they won’t be messing up other people’s lives.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Are you sure it is the scandal that is helping Beck sell, and not that he wrote a great album that one the biggest award of the night? Grammy winners get bumps after they win, that isn’t a Kanye thing.

    • Gea says:

I have watched him and his mom on Oprah years a go, he left her kind of speechless. He did his tirade of greatness while his mother was praising genius.

      • Jayna says:

A guy that worked with him way back in his really early days (mom still very much alive) said Kanye has always been like this. He didn’t say it in a mean way. He thinks he’s really talented, but just said this is who Kanye has always been. I read this a few months ago or heard it in a radio interview.

    • Nimbolicious says:

      ……and a healthy dose of Lithium…..

    • Trashaddict says:

Dude, it’s just one voice, it belongs to you, take responsibility for it and consider avoiding it’s advice when yelling at inappropriate times.
But thank you for providing such a great opening for comic retort.

  3. capepopsie says:

Can´t the voices in his head tell him to clothe Little West in COLOURS?

  4. Lilacflowers says:

The voices in my head tell me to boycott everything this rude, self-centered man produces. I do realize my actions will have little impact on him but,, hey, it’s very hard for Lilacflowers not to be very true and vocal to what she feels.

    • Gen says:

      LOL! Nicely done, Lilacflowers 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

Thank you. Kanye thanks you too. Lilacflowers has decided that one of the voices in her head is Kanye and she will make his thoughts public.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ha. Really, he is so pretentious and self-absorbed it just boggles the mind.

    • Snazzy says:

      🙂

    • Judyk says:

      Love it!

    • alice says:

His mouth is so ugly. Always in a perpetual sneer.

    • Ruyana says:

I didn’t think I could be any more disgusted with Kanye and his antics. I was so, so wrong.

    • Michelle says:

Love this and I agree, I think a boycott what needs to happen. Kanye is the new P.T. Barnum; he creates so much of his own hype and knows people are dumb enough to go along with it if he makes enough noise. Kanye isn’t a genius and was never really regarded as one until he started making a ton of noise about what a genius he is and how talented he is.

“Without promotion something terrible happens… Nothing!” – P.T. Barnum

It is way past time to stop perpetuating his bullshit.

  5. NewWester says:

I hope Kayne is trolling the public, otherwise he is sounding like he has some serious issues. Hopefully him saying ” voices in his head” was just a wrong choice of words. It is getting worrisome

    • Babalon says:

He has serious issues. Not the least of which is a total lack of personal accountability.

    • Pixi says:

How would a Kanye and Kellan Lutz conversation go?
Kanye thinks you were amazing in Twilight.
Wow, thanks, Kellan really appreciates that.

    • Michelle says:

I’ve seen other stuff from Kanye that was odd. There is video floating around of him laughing really hard at something and two seconds later he is stone faced. Grandiose delusions is an actual mental illness. According to the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria for delusional disorder, grandiose-type symptoms include grossly exaggerated belief of: self-worth, power, knowledge, identity, exceptional relationship to a divinity or famous person. From now on I’m just going to ignore Kanye and chalk up his behavior to the fact that he is legitimately nuts because he fits the bill for that description.

  6. Lucy2 says:

This is purely him trying to lower the backlash, which he probably didn’t expect to be so strong. And get another round of attention.
I don’t think Beck was into it.

  7. Ginger says:

I think he is trolling people and they are falling right into his trap. But that doesn’t excuse the comments he made after the Grammy’s. Beck deserved the award. Beyonce is swimming in awards. And she can stick up for herself anyway. I also came away from this interview wondering what in the heck kind of team they must have for a basketball game?! Now I want to know…

  8. PunkyMomma says:

In which head of his is he hearing the voices? ‘Cause PunkyMomma thinks Kayne is a d*ckhead in general . . .

  9. stellar says:

    StilI love him. Idc.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t mean this sarcastically at all, I promise. But what is it that you see in him? I find him beyond annoying. Do you like his music? Or is he joking and I don’t get his sense of humor? I’m just curious what it is that I’m missing. If you feel like explaining.

      • Pixi says:

Gold digger was his last good song (IMHO) so I don’t get the appeal either. How bad has his music been lately AND on top of that he is a giant A Hole so nope, I don’t get it.

    • iGotNothin says:

I still love him too. And I’m a Kanye apologist.

I’ve backed off of my Kanye fanaticism since Amber Rose, but I can understand him and how losing his mother (who was probably the only person who connected him to the reality that was his past) completely changed him. I remember being at a concert where he talked about losing his grandmother (this was relatively close to the death of his mother). For a man like Kanye who allows his emotions to fall out of his mouth and onto the floor at all times it can be devastating.

      • Lucy says:

Oh please every one suffers death of family members, no ones immune .

While 99% of people don’t have the fame , wealth that this clown has for in my opinion very little talent .

Just excuses for a A- hole who has issues and wouldn’t deal with them, because when your always the VICTIM it’s never your fault.

      • iGotNothin says:

I don’t think that’s fair. I’ve had friends lose parents and adapt really well. On the flip side, I have a friend who lost his mom nearly 10 years ago and his entire world collapsed. His future prior to was so promising. He is incredibly intelligent and was very ambitious.

Now…he is a completely different person with no ambition and no driving force. Some people need that person to keep them grounded and focused (especially when coming from a single parent household where that person had to work twice as hard to build a foundation). So it’s not fair to say everyone suffers so his suffering should be one way or the other.

      • Michelle says:

I hear you, iGotNothin, but that isn’t normal behavior. And grief counseling exists for this reason. Death is a part of life and we all suffer enormous losses that are devastating, but because it is a part of the circle of life, we’re supposed to carry on with our lives and not completely fall apart and turn into giant assholes and egotists who have seemingly lost touch with reality (Kanye). That is not the way someone with a healthy mind handles loss, no matter how large the loss is. If Kanye can’t recover from the loss of his mom, he should seek counseling.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

      I like him too,
I think in a way he knows all this brings him more attention.

The guy sells all over the world, so someone obviously likes Kanye.

So what if he gets people’s goat, he’s allowed to Voice his opinion , he doesn’t play the nice game, he can be harsh, but so what, don’t like him, I doubt it will change him.

And now I read that He and Taylor Swift are recording together, so I guess she’s over it.

  10. Kaley says:

Is he like in love with Beyoncé or something? He really seems to get pissed when she doesn’t win something. And Beck really is talented.

    • Pixi says:

That’s what I’m thinking, like isn’t Jay-Z and Kim like, WTH man, we didn’t even come to your wedding, stop with the brown nosing… I think he should read “He’s just not that into you” because that’s what’s going on and he seems desperate to be their bestest best friend in the whole world and they’re just like, eh. Also, he’s such a d-nozzle. I hope no one ever gives him an award again ever.

      • Tifygodess24 says:

Kim would have to be more self aware to notice that. She’s too busy planning her next butt selfie to even realize what is going on.

      • Pixi says:

Yeah, you’re probably right… It must be so boring inside her mind. I see a little guy in there just sweeping up the dust every few days and nothing much else going on.

      • Tifygodess24 says:

Hahaha at someone sweeping up the dust. That’s funny.

    • Michelle says:

I could understand Kanye finding it necessary to basically defend Beyonce’s honor anytime she is nominated for something and doesn’t win if she wasn’t already revered by critics and fans alike, and he felt that she wasn’t getting the recognition or praise he feels she deserves but she is recognized and praised constantly. She is a household name that EVERYONE knows, she has broken records, she is constantly nominated for awards, and so is so loved by her fans that they refer to her as “queen” and even “king.” Beyonce is arguably the most famous female singer in the world and she does not need Kanye’s help. His behavior is obsessive.

  11. Dolce crema says:

He should start his own award show so that all the awards go to the right people

  12. MelissaManifesto says:

    That sounds psychotic at best.

  13. Honeybea says:

He is full of contradictions! Between his mad rambling and Kim’s selfie obsession, what hope does North have??

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hear you, but I have to say that I know this young woman who is perfectly balanced and genuinely nice, and her parents are two of the most despicable, self-absorbed, mean, snobby jerks you will ever meet. So you never know. She might make it through ok.

      • Pixi says:

Yeah, she’ll probably pull a Frances Bean at some stage and get out of there.

      • Snazzy says:

Very true. Let’s home she can use all those means and connections that she has to really enrich her life and not just be … well, her parents

      • Honeybea says:

You are absolutely right! Fingers crossed she makes it

      • Tifygodess24 says:

I would hope so but I’m pretty sure North is going to be groomed to be exactly like Kim. (Think the Duggars.) North isn’t going to know anything else but their lifestyle and they are going to help form her values which we know this family has none of. So sadly not likely.

      • lucy2 says:

As soon as that baby was born, my first thought was “I hope she has really great nannies”. All it takes is one person to tell a kid they’re more than their looks, or to care about things other than fashion and paparazzi.

      • jen2 says:

I hope so. Her father may love her, but he is not stable. Her mother uses her strictly as a prop for her photo ops. Putting a baby in fur is just beyond wrong. Hopefully there is someone in her life (probably not a blood relative I would guess, but I don’t know much about them outside of KK), who can give her some semblance of a normal life.

  14. Barrett says:

Kim sold her soul to the devil for all her money and fame. Her payback is Kanye. Hell to me would be engaging or being forced to listen to his nonsensical dialogue everyday.

  15. swack says:

He has a shoe coming out and there are pictures of Kim taking selfies in front of a store window with the name of the shoes in it. That’s why he is doing this. I think the whole going up on stage was very disrespectful also, joke or no joke. You should respect other artists enough not to do so. If he wanted to rant afterwards that’s fine. It’s his opinion and he is allowed to put it out there.

  16. Chesty LaRue says:

The voices in my head tell him to take a seat.

  17. Cynthia says:

Thank God he clarified his comments about Beck and real artistry!! I knew he didn’t mean it because with all his problems Kanye is still talented enough to recognize that Beck is a great artist. He really needs a PR or to stop giving interviews and learn how to proper explain his points because all the right things he says go away with these kind of stupid stunts. And I’m really curious to hear what may come out from a collaboration with Taylor!

    • Sam says:

He so full of it , delusional.
Taylor Swift wasn’t there when it went down , that’s why there isn’t a picture or video of her reaction, which everyone was asking for .

When Kanye rushed the stage he pushes a girl standing where Taylor Swift had been seated.

And where Kim ended up waiting for him when she rushed after him

Kanye needs mental help, the video of him on stage his facial expression looks crazy angry and makes it obvious it was no joke and that he was just able at the last minute to control his rage and not grab the mic to rant .

Everything he said about Swift was his usual delusions , he needs to leech on to people more popular then him, explains his obsession with the Carter’s

He’s relying on Swift being too nice to call him out in the media and instead just let him be rather then link her name anymore to him and his crazy rages.

      • Anna says:

Taylor may not have been there right when it happened but throughout the night there were pictures and gifs of them hanging out lol they are all over the Internet.. (some of them even came after this incident)

  18. Talie says:

    A. I don’t believe Taylor Swift told him jacksh*t about rushing that stage and if she did, it was probably a joke.

    B. I listened and he is still throwing shade and anger at Beck. WTF?!! He goes on about how Beck should’ve namechecked certain people in his speech.

    • SpookySpooks says:

He also said that voting in tje Grammys should be changed so that it includes sales. The most popular artists should win.

      • A Different Kate says:

I hope Kanye understands that if sales are factored into it, “true artists” Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are going to clean up on the awards circuit.

      • Dolce crema says:

Great so the awards would go to iggy, beiber, Selena, Miley, and Ariana?! I like some of their music for working out but sales are driven by teens and that’s why we have teen choice awards, the Grammys are supposed to be about talent and excellence. Not that I agree with their choice to nominate iggy, she’s simply not talented.

      • lucy2 says:

And if someone outsold him (or Beyonce) he’d be crying that it should be about artistry, not sales.

      • radio active says:

Kanye is a nut..they have a show like that…it’s called the Billboard awards.

      • Sam says:

His last album Yeeze sold less 700 thousand copies to date and he knows that.
So WTF is talking about album sales should be the determining factor.

The guys losing his marbles .

      • meh says:

I kind of agree with him on that. I mean sales shouldn’t be the only factor, but why not make it a part of the voting? There is value in reaching/speaking to a wide audience. It really perpetuates the elitism of things like the Grammys not to take it into account at all. And unfortunately “artistry” can easily become code for “white person that makes music for mid-to-upper class white people.” It might be good to have something balancing that.

    • Talie says:

Trust me, the people in charge may indulge him and meet, but they aren’t changing anything. Part of me hopes they snub him like LVMH did when he wanted a meeting.

      • Sam says:

They’re not going to indulge him at all, it took them six years to invite him again to perform at another Grammy’s and he pulls such a disrespectful stunt on a artist that’s both liked and repeated in the inductry .

This was the lowest viewed Grammy’s in 6 years, not like they can console themselves with rating .

There’s video of them at the airport leaving the same night , looks like they ran out of LA so fast they just had time to pick up their kid , Kim was still wearing her dedeazzled robe.

The people in the industry might not call him publicly , but he heard it and knows that he’s fucked.

  19. maeliz says:

Does he hear the voices all over the world talking about how stupid this was?

  20. scout says:

I KNEW IT! Those voices in his head are responsible for all the crap he comes up with. He needs help indeed. His talk is crazy, always thought there are few nuts loose on the upper bunk. Now we know!

  21. JM says:

Why can’t the voices in Kanye’s head ever tell him to sit down and STFU?!

That being said, thanks to his ridiculous rant, I’ve spent all week enjoying the plethora that is Beck’s music. They guy is a brilliant musician and an artist in the true sense. He creates for the joy of creativity, not to score a popularity contest or make a lot of money.

  22. maeliz says:

Beyonce and Jay Z probably rolled their eyes like the whole world. She doesn’t need him as her#1fan.
Is he listening to the voices in his head when he’s scowling and frowning?

  23. Diana says:

I worry about him. The more he talks the more apparent it is that he has undiagnosed mental illness.

  24. Allie says:

I really hope Taylor didn’t say that he should have interrupted Beck. The girl cried for years about him doing the exact same thing to her but for a stupid VMA award. I could see her saying it because she thought it would earn her cool points in the circle of Jay Z and Beyoncé, but talk about irony.

  25. platypus says:

Most of his interviews are bordering on word salad, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if he did have some serious mental issues.

  26. Pri says:

And obviously Kanye doesn’t think much of the fact that Beysus doesn’t write much of her songs, nor produces them (she got a gazillion people who’ll do anything for her) She merely sings them cause she’s got an out of this world voice; as well as entertains people with her skills which is a good thing and she does it well. That BECK guy (it’s all caps, right?) wrote and produced his whole album. That should count for something right? I think that’s what the Academy was thinking too.

A lot of people said Bey should have won because they don’t even know who BECK is? I don’t think Best anything should go to the most popular person in the room.It really should be about the music and craftsmanship.

    • iGotNothin says:

Eh. I don’t think it’s fair to point out Beyonce’s shortcomings to prove that Beck is the better artist.

She doesn’t need a white knight or anything, but I always feel like Beyonce gets the short end of the stick when Kanye pulls his stunts. Everyone then feels the need to point out the talents she lacks in order to justify the other artists’ wins.

      • platypus says:

I think it’s fair to point out how much an artist is actually involved in the writing and production of their music. I wish people would do so more often. People who do more of the creative work themselves deserve for that to be acknowledged, and it’s hard to do that without pointing out that other performers don’t.

I don’t think it’s something her fans, or fans of pop/chart music in general, care that much about anyway, so I don’t really see the harm. Just as Beck’s fans probably aren’t too bothered by his lack of dance moves or fashion sense.

      • GingerCrunch says:

…or use of overt sexuality, or PR stunts, or celebrity marriage, etc, etc, etc. and I’m not a Beck fan either.

    • Cynthia says:

This argument is soo tired. There are so many legends of music who weren’t songwriters or producers. Being a vocalist, a singer or a performer doesn’t make you any less of an artist; you use your voice as an instrument and your body of work is still valuable. Beyonce’s and Beck’s albums had the same score on Metacritic so it’s not like Beyonce had to win out of popularity and sales only. People were surprised because Bey’s album had the most impact; it was a critic and commercial success;of course this doesn’t take anything from Beck’s album which was great as well. The point Kanye was trying to make (in a disastrous and notorious way) is that it looks like the Grammys don’t consider r&b and hip-hop as worthy and as artistic as to say Rock or Pop, because they rarely win big categories.

Personally I like Carole King, Tracy Chapman and Whitney Houston equally. They’re both artists to me, no matter the credits in their albums.

I agree with this. Kanye’s message gets lost because we can’t see through all his crazy, but I can respect what he is trying to say.

      • sputnik says:

thank you. i’m glad someone said this. i don’t see people talking trash about aretha franklin or elvis presley not being artists, despite having few writing credits. most of the great singers didn’t write their own songs. loads of great musicians don’t write the music they perform. it’s an absurd double standard that only seems to be applied when you don’t like someone.

      • platypus says:

It’s not always about liking or not liking someone, I enjoy listening to several artists who don’t write or produce their music. They’re still great at what they do, singing and embracing a certain persona – saying that’s all they do doesn’t mean they’re not talented or to be admired as well. If it seems like a double standard, I’d guess people just aren’t aware of how much of the work various artists actually do themselves.

    • SmellyCat says:

On top of not being an artist, I don’t even think Beyonce is a good singer. She screeches and makes my ears bleed. STFU Kanye!

      • Adia says:

As if Beyonce’s screeching and warbling overrides that fact she needs 5 writers and 4 producers to make one song, she’s not Whitney Houston , Celine Dion.

Beyonce is famous for her production videos dance routines / catchy song throwing her weave around.

And she gets compensated very well for her contributions to entertainment .

Don’t mean she deserves Grammy’s or awards for it .

    • lucy2 says:

I think the “best” album should win, whether it was made by one person or fifteen. A good product is a good product.
By I am more impressed by someone who has a multitude of talents and can produce something great on their own.

      • Sam says:

There are half dozens awards shows , popularity contest (MTV, American Music awards) or higest sales (Billboard )

Beyonce album nor songs hadn’t won any major awards in any of those shows except in R& B..
So how would sales or popularity have helped her.

Grammy’s are voted by their peers & people in the business, they know exactly what it takes to make a album and how much a artist is involved in making their own music..and when artist buys the best talent.

Beyonce’s never won any of the major awards, especially Album of the Year there’s a reason for that .
Neither has Madonna , Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna

While Lauran Hill , Whitney Houston , Steve Wonder, Micheal Jackson, Adele , Oukast, Taylor Swift have… just to name a few .

    • meh says:

She is still a legitimate artist. Opera singers don’t write their music either but they are undoubtedly artists as singing is an art form. There is no reason she should be less deserving of a Grammy for that.

  27. InvaderTak says:

Brandon Browner, who plays for the Pats, hadsome great tweets about this. Basically called him out if being a arse and trying to play it off as genious. It was great. And Beck was classy all the way, but he shouldn’t have to be. He should have been able to have a great moment for himself without all this stupid controversy. And I’m sure if he’d tried to defend himself Gagnye would be crying racism.

  28. Ohreallynow says:

Even if he was joking about the stage rush and didn’t rant on E! afterwards it was still disrespectful to Beck and took away from his moment and hard work. I’m sure Beck was trying to go along w/ it so he didn’t look like an idiot but I’m sure he was embarrassed. I think he’s just doing this b/c he has to promote his shoe coming out. He didn’t really apologize to Beck. I think that’s what would make the most sense. I just have never seen the appeal of Kanye…even before he got with Kim.

  29. Eleonor says:

Are those the same voices who told him to marry Kim K. ?

  30. kri says:

You know what? He is full of sh&t. Also, he must have gotten bitched out by someone (jay?) because we all know he meant what he said, and he did “disrespect” Beck directly. He couldn’t have been more clear. Yes, he has issues. His ego and thirst for attention is sad. He has every right to discuss what artist or music is great. He has no right to act like a fool and then come back with a lame ass explanation like this one. God, what a jerk. Every time you think you are the authority on taste, take a look at the thing you married and think again.

  31. Susan says:

Ugh! I think I’ve tolerated Kenya because of his unique talent but it’s getting old fast. Go ahead and boycot the Grammy’s who cares. Just stop talking and making a fool of yourself Kenye.

  32. Amy says:

I know the ‘proper’ thing would have been for him not to get up at all, but honestly if Kanye had been smart enough to leave it at the joke it was it would have earned him a completely new reputation and lent him a ton of public good-will for a couple of months. Beck was into it, the audience was cracking up, it was a glorious made for TV moment.

Unfortunately all those voices in his head have no sense of humor or concept of perception so he went and assed himself immediately and now everyone is rightfully mocking him. Such an idiot.

I kinda keep waiting for bi-polar disorder diagnoses tbh, he seems static enough for it.

  33. Dawn says:

I think part of the problem with him is people make assumptions that he is just fooling around or trolling others. I don’t believe that for a minute. And I think those who do are giving him the power to continue to act like an uneducated dickweed. That man believed that Bey is a better musician than Beck and truly believed that he could bully him into give the award away. And that rant was god awful with Khloe saying amen every other word that came out of his mouth. If I owned any part of Comcast that the Kardashian show would be shut down and Khloe would never again hold an E! mic that was live. I do believe he thinks he is smarter than any other man out there including legends like Prince and he really does believe Jimmy Jam needs his help to ensure that those he believes are true artist win. Nope this little man needs to be shut down and given meds. He once again over stepped his bounds.

    • Janie says:

Well said! I absolutely agree! I read one of the reasons Khloe is in NY is she’s looking for a job. She wants to be a host or cohost of any show. She started with E since she does do hosting jobs for them occasionally, like the Grammy fiasco. She was turned down flat by E. This should be an interesting year for this bunch.

      • me says:

Well I really believe their ratings are not good and if season 10 of their show is not hugely successful I don’t think E will renew their contracts. In fact E is trying to replace the Kardashians with the Milians lol don’t think it’s going to work though. Khloe is not that good at hosting and her family is way too overexposed. People are tired of them and had enough. Maybe Khloe’s really in NYC trying to find a new rich boyfriend.

    • Pri says:

Sometimes I feel the same. Like he’s just too much of an a@#ehole in reality to really just keep trolling. At some point, this is really YOU, you know.

  34. MrsBPitt says:

I guess Kanye thinks that all the Grammy’s should go to only himself, Jay Z or Beyonce…Can the voices in his head tell him to just go away!

    • me says:

I’m surprised he doesn’t think Kim deserved a grammy for her amazing song “Jam”. I mean that was definitely grammy worthy right?

  35. Ankhel says:

I think Kim is embarassed because of Kanye right now. Shame is probably a rather novel experience for her, so I expect she’s also feeling confused. A reassuringly familiar feeling.

    • FingerBinger says:

She’s not embarrassed. It’s attention. We all know she loves attention.

      • me says:

Yes Kim loves attention. I bet she wishes Kanye would keep his mouth open and say more stuff. Kim loves it. This is also giving her ammo for when she divorces him in a year or two.

  36. Jonesy says:

“I don’t always say something stupid, but when I do, I keep talking to make it worse.” — Kanye

  37. Barbiegirl says:

“Voices in my head”… When I hear that I think only of one thing: schizophrenia!!

  38. GingerCrunch says:

If it’s really about music as art, WHY so wrapped up in who’s winning awards?

    • Jayna says:

Because he is obsessed with Beyonce, beyond obsessed.

      • me says:

Yeah you’d think Kanye would be a bit bitter that Jay and Bey didn’t show up to his wedding. Yet he will STILL kiss Beyonce’s feet when given a chance. I wonder how Kim feels about Kanye’s undying love for Beyonce. Beyonce can do no wrong in Kanye’s eyes lol.

  39. Tippy says:

Once those voices start chanting and making commands you’re all done.

  40. Silk Spectre says:

It took 4 days to burp up this half assed explanation/excuse?! Dude is a narcisstic, borderline shizophrenic POS. Get professional counseling ASAP.

    • 237 says:

You know that kid in kindergarden who starts randomly banging against doors and tables and shouting stuff when some other child gets a little happy birthday song sung just because kid no 1 is for one f**cking second not the center of attention. Everybody hated that kid.
difference to kanye – that kid grew up.

    • Anna says:

He said this the morning after the Grammys to TMZ, you probably just didn’t hear about it

  41. word says:

I thought the “irony of his life” was marrying Kim?

The only thing that came out of this whole Beck thing is that people are now comparing Beck to Beyonce and noting that Beck writes and produces all of his music while Beyonce has like 10 producers and 10 writers on every song. Beyonce should be pissed at Kanye lol.

  42. Jayna says:

You’re sure changing your story, Kanye, after the classiness of Beck showed you to be the loser you are and when the uproar happened that you insinuated Beck wasn’t an artist and should respect artistry and hand his Grammy over to Beck. It backfired. People are now pointing out that Beyonce had 20 to 24 co-songwriters on her album (including herself) and like 14 producers. Beck wrote and produced his own album That shouldn’t be a story when awarding Album of the Year as it’s the body of work that was created that is what counts, but you made it one when you dissed him as an artist and to respect Beyonce’s artistry and give up his Grammy. So people pointed out Beck wrote and produced his own album and plays 14 instruments. He is an artist and his work was his artistry. Both albums, Beyonce and Morning Phase, received excellent reviews, not just Beyonce’s, Kanye, in case you didn’t knnow.

First you said in your rant you didn’t stay up there and say what you wanted to say because of your fashion line and putting your daughter at risk. Now you’ve changed it to it’s because you didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment.

    LOL

But thanks, Kanye. I went and bought Beck’s album and after a few listens, I have fallen in love with it. It’s a stunning, melancholic headphones album. Bey’s is good too.

  43. funcakes says:

Kanye is a p%ssy plain and simple. Funny how he never tries this stunt on 2 Chains, Beanie Siegel, C-Murder or Suge Might.

When he walk up to one of them and try to grab anything out of their hand. Until then your just a parasite.

  44. Michelle says:

I think it’s really unfair how Kanye’s CRAZY behavior (I really believe he has a mental illness) has led people to compare Beyonce and Beck and essentially pin the two against each other. That is very unfair to do to both artists. I’ve seen comments all over social media comparing Beck’s musical ability to Beyonce’s and it’s just not right. And this is the kind of bullshit that Kanye creates with his dumb behavior that his fans and apologists praise. I don’t care if no one agrees, Kanye’s behavior is textbook for delusional disorder and the death of his mother and grandmother doesn’t give him any special privilege to act like a complete asshole and exhibit crazy behavior and offend people constantly. He is a damper on everything all the time because he brings anger and bitterness with him everywhere he goes and that isn’t entertaining.

  45. JB11322 says:

He is mentally ill and I hope those who care about him are encouraging him to get help.

  46. Nicolette says:

I’d like the voices in his head to tell him to STFU already.

  47. Pandy says:

Kim is smarter than I gave her credit for. Now I understand why they spend so little time together. It’s her choice – he’s batsh*t cray cray.

  48. Altariel says:

Guess he cant help obeying the voices in his head that tell him to be a ginormous douchebag every day.

  49. Wendi says:

Oh Kanye. Shut up. I’m sick of his self entitled sense of self. I want him to come down off his high chair because the music industry isn’t all Kanye and what Kanye thinks. He’s maturity level is stunted, on the level of a 6yr old having tantrums when they don’t always get what they want. Beck plays several instruments. As a kid he was heavily influenced by his LA roots, different sounds from different cultured communities and that played into him working in many genres of music. FFS he wrote, produced, played his own instruments in the making of this terrific album. He thoroughly deserved it and I’m over the moon that he won. Beck is the real musical genius and I appreciate that it went to someone who is all around musically gifted, is open to and appreciates different styles of the craft. Kanye commenting about Taylor Swift wanting him to stay up there longer, I can’t see her saying that. If she did I expect her to be furious at Kanye and the collaboration will be cancelled. She doesn’t play around. I expect she will be angry at Kanye for involving her.

Hearing voices? He’s been needing help for a long time, this just confirms it.

  50. Nimbolicious says:

Y’all, I read somewhere that Yeez was involved in a pretty bad car accident many years ago that resulted in some serious head trauma, and that those who knew him before and after claim that his personality changed drastically following the accident. While his behavior has been pretty uniformly deplorable over the past years, it makes sense if one concludes that he’s suffering from either some form of post-brain trauma psychosis (which my late brother suffered from temporarily following brain surgery), or some form of brain damage (which, judging by his behavior, made him delusional and/or completely f—ed up his impulse control). That would probably also explain the little voices…….

  51. me says:

I hope the next time Kanye wins an award (if he ever does again) that someone goes up there and steals his moment and tells him to give his award away to someone more talented and worthy. Let’s see how he likes a taste of his own medicine.

  52. RattaMac says:

    Wait a minute !!!

    That’s Bubba, isn’t it?

    Bubba… Bubba Gump…

  53. The “voices in his head” oh, I’m soo relieved! All this time I thought he was an arrogant, obsessed, entitled, knotheaded rude bastard. Now we know the fool is simply demon possessed.

  54. Tarsha_ says:

I so DESPERATELY want someone to do the exact same thing to him if he wins another grammy. I want someone to rush on the stage, and say the same about another nominee to him. That would make my day/year/decade.
