Jay-Z is being sued for paternity for fathering a 21-year-old dude from Jersey

One of my favorite conspiracies involving Jay-Z and Beyonce is that they’ve both shaved a few years off their ages. Beyonce gets that a lot, and I always pay special attention to those conspiracies, because I swear, she really has shaved a few years off. But I never really knew what to make of the Jay-Z claims – last year, a DJ said that Jay is closer to 50 years old, as opposed to his “official” age of 45. Why bring this up? I was reading this Radar/Enquirer story about some 21-year-old guy claiming to be Jay-Z’s long-lost son, and it reminded me of how much I dislike the other Jay-Z conspiracies floating around about all of his various children and baby-mamas.

Music superstar Jay Z has been hit with a shocking claim that could potentially rock his marriage to wife Beyonce: According to court documents, he is currently tied up in an ugly legal battle with a man who claims he is the rapper’s son!

The National ENQUIRER has uncovered explosive papers that show that Shawn Corey Carter was sued by 21-year-old Rymir Satterthwaite, an aspiring rapper, in 2014. Satterthwaite told a New Jersey court that his mother, Wanda, had a steamy affair with Jay Z in the 1990s, and that HOVA has done everything in his power to cover it up. According to the magazine, Satterthwaite, through his legal guardian – a paralegal name Lillie Colley – accused Blue Ivy’s dad of lying to the court to avoid taking a paternity test.

In 2010, a judge dismissed a similar case in which Satterthwaite’s mother tried to force Jay Z to submit the paternity test after another man turned out not to be the young man’s father.

However, The ENQUIRER reports that the judge dismissed the case only because he ruled that his court lacked jurisdiction over Jay Z, and not because the court concluded that he was not Satterthwaite’s biological father! The dismissal of the case paved the road for Coley, Satterthwaite’s guardian, to file the 2014 civil lawsuit. In the papers, obtained by The ENQUIRER, Coley alleges that Jay Z and his lawyer, Lisa Fisher, provided “false” and “fraudulent” information to the judge, arguing that he lied to the court when claiming that he lived in New York and not in New Jersey, where he reportedly owns three houses.

[From Radar]

You can see a photo of Satterhwaite here at Radar. There does seem to be a resemblance, especially around the mouth. The Enquirer also spoke to a plastic surgeon who says yeah, Jay-Z and Satterhwaite sort of look alike. Radar also points out that in 2011, Jay-Z paid Shanelle Scott $1 million for keeping his name off of the birth certificate of her then-13-year-old son. Did that really happen? And I remember that there were rumors that he had fathered a child with a French woman too, right?

Anyway, while this is sort of interesting, is it really a “scandal” to say that a then-single twenty-something might have fathered a kid? It’s not like he was “cheating” on Beyonce (that time).

Gotta say, dude looks like him.

  2. Kaley says:

Nah. If it was true they would have came for money way before he turned 18.

    • Loopy says:

Can he get child support at 21?

      • Dayandnight says:

I think it is possible to get some money out of a parent to cover the expenses of the other parent even after coming off age.

And in some countries it would be possible to sue parents to cover university costs.

Additionally some countries have rules concerning inheritance regulations / last will. Then the offspring out of wedlock must not be disadvantaged e.g. out of wedlock offspring and “legitimate” offspring have to get the same share.

      • lem says:

the mother could, potentially, but i think it would be based on his income at the time the child was under 18. or if she received state-fund support, then the state could go after him for reimbursement.

    • Gea says:

Rumors have been circulating, way before he met Bey. Ex model who she married well of guy and still is made claims years a go. But for some reason, that news never surfaced big time and kind of disappeared after a while.

  3. NewWester says:

I don’t understand what would be the point of going after JayZ for paternity now? Could this young man actually get money?
Also in that Instagram pic of JayZ and Beyonce does anyone else find it gross when men wear dress shoes without socks? Yuck

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Prob thinking of the acknowledgment, possibly some minor fame, and one day the inheritance.

    • aang says:

Maybe sue for back child support? I’m not sure but I think in NY at least it can be retroactively collected. The scandle here would be that he cares nothing for children he fathered and is trying to weasle out of responsibility. Of course Blue is different because she part of the whole “happy family” image he and Beyonce are selling us.

      • Lilacflowers says:

If the mother ever collected welfare payments when he should have been paying child support, once paternity is established, the state government will go after him for reimbursement. Not that that would be the kid’s motivation, just that there are other legal issues involved.

    • als says:

@NewWester – I hate this new trend of men not wearing socks too. Jay-Z looks like he waxed his leg in this photo.

    • A.Key says:

Maybe he’s not doing it for the money?

Maybe he’s just rightfully pissed at his douchebag dad?

    • Dolce crema says:

No I like that look! especially on pharell!

    • girlonfire says:

Well the kid is an aspiring rapper so if he’s not Jay-Z’s kid he’s doing it to get noticed aka his name out there. I personally don’t see the likeness, the kid looks like his mom more than Jay-Z.

  4. msw says:

Wouldn’t a statute of limitations apply? Anybody know?

    • runCMC says:

For paternity?? No? Paternity isn’t a crime. The kid (man, I guess) has a right to find out who his father is.

I feel bad for him…maybe I just try to see the best in everyone, but everyone is just assuming they’re after Jay for money. Maybe the dude is just sick of being shoved in the corner and wants his father to acknowledge him.

      • msw says:

I thought a statue of limitations can apply to any lawsuit, not just a criminal matter, but I don’t know, I’m not a lawyer.

    • MinnFinn says:

In Minnesota there is a 5 year statute of limitation for suing for unpaid court ordered child support. I don’t know what the laws in MN are for time limits on establishing paternity and then attempting to collect retroactive child support.

      • ava7 says:

There hasn’t been any mention of suing for money in any of these articles (although surely that is to come if paternity is established, but it would be in civil court, rather than a court of law). It says the mother tried 4 years ago to make him take a paternity test (which he refused and lied to the courts about where he lived). Maybe this kid just wants to know who his father is?

  5. Miss M says:

They all lie about their ages…

    • curleque says:

      Angelina, Kaley Cuocco…

    • Anony says:

I don’t get this. Wouldn’t you rather be told you look great for your age over saying that you are younger and people thinking you look terrible for your age? I wouldn’t go around saying I’m 25 because people would think that I had aged terribly. But if I say my real age than they say they thought I was younger. You guys know what I’m saying?

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

It’s not a scandal if he fathered the child, but I think it’s a scandal if he didn’t support his own child growing up. That’s disgusting to me. But who knows if it’s true – this guy wants to be a rapper, so maybe he’s just looking for some publicity.

    • nicegirl says:

Yes, it is scandalous to ignore your own child. Even for famous folks.

    • Sarah says:

Thank you. This is exactly right. I think it is huge that he paid off a woman to keep his name off a birth certificate (though that would have been during his relationship with Bey). I’m surprised the Hive doesn’t go nuclear on him.

  7. MelissaManifesto says:

How could a celebrity as popular as Beyonce have shaved years off? Aren’t there people who investigate celebrities for gossip + biography purposes? I’ve always heard the rumors too, but obviously nothing has never been confirmed.

  8. scout says:

I am not surprised if he has a son, why deny and conceal? JZ is not a saint, he was a self confessed drug dealer and all that. sure he played around a lot indiscriminately. Dead beat dad, pay up your dues and let Ivy have a big brother!
Wonder how many celebrities are older than they claim, it would be fun to investigate.

  9. A.Key says:

The only thing that’s scandalous is the way he treats his children!! Disgusting. Doesn’t he care at all??
Jeesh, with a father like that, I don’t envy Blue Ivy.

And for what it’s worth, both Jay Z and Beyonce look younger than their years (whatever these may be). I had no idea he was supposed to be 45?? I thought he was younger!
I mean if he’s 50, did he discover the fountain of youth or something??

  10. **sighs** says:

Are all famous men allergic to condoms? Is that part of the contract?

  11. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Why does Jay Z always pose like he has a leg missing?

  12. INeedANap says:

The only scandal is his apparent refusal to wear a condom.

and the article mentions that his alleged son is an aspiring rapper. I suspect he is now suing Jay Z as a way to gain notoriety for his career.

  13. FKA Pri says:

I don’t even know what to make of this. I can’t help but side-eye the Satterhwaites a little simply because – a lot of questions ,like, Why now so late? etc. But JZ was no saint either. I would hate to believe that he is still that way but who knows….This is all just so sad.

    • supposedtobeworking says:

perhaps the paternity request is so late because the mom made a deal at some point not to go after paternity or didn’t want to pursue a paternity suit, couldn’t afford to, thought he wouldn’t be a good father figure, etc, and now that the son is of age, he can make the decision of himself and he wants to pursue it.

    • Justpassingby says:

His guardian, a paralegal, filed suit on his behalf. His mother could be the one who was allegedly bribed into keeping everything in the dark. Poor kid just wants to know who his father is.

  14. Dayandnight says:

Why don’t just take that f***ing paternity test?

  15. swack says:

So why not just take a paternity test if you’re sure you’re not the father.

    • Livealot says:

This reminds me of when a dude thought Michael Jordan was his father. Just a ness. Do you know how many people would claim paternity if he “just took the test”?

      • swack says:

If he had taken the test right away and not put it off maybe it would make others think before they claim paternity. But when you put it off it looks like you’re trying to hide something. And I did think about others coming out of the woodwork claiming paternity.

  16. Jacqueline says:

    I just want those emeralds!!!

  17. lucy2 says:

I find it odd to do this so late, the kid is 21? So many rumors about Jay Z having other kids though.
I don’t see how it would “rock” his marriage though, considering this kid would have been born WAY before he even met Beyonce.

  18. aenflex says:

I don’t care who, it always irks me when fathers do this type of dereliction of duty in terms of their ‘illegitimate’ and unwanted children.

    • Dawn says:

I am with you because it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are the only person who gets scarred by this type of man who ignores his child is the child. As any child whose father left the family and never looked back how they feel about that and most if being truthful will be messed up by it in some way or other.

  19. Kim1 says:

For all those people who thinks Bey lies about her age.If it’s true than Solange also lies about her age since there are dozens of pics of Bey and Solange where Solange appears to be two or three and Bey looks about seven or eight. Also all the girls of DC also had to have lied about their ages since they all looked the same age on Star Search.I guess Star Search didn’t check that out and let 17 and 18 year olds pretend to be 12 and 13.Also I guess Bey’s teachers didn’t notice she was 14 or 15 when she was in the fifth grade.
I am from Houston I remember seeing these girs perform at shows like the Tommy Tune awards show when they were in elementary school. They are not lying about their ages.

With Jay Z I can only go by what his mother says.Maybe someone from BK can speak on his real age. Also this alleged son is 21 not 31 so how does that put into question his age? My uncle was 13 when his first daughter was born.

  20. Seapharris7 says:

I could see this going either way. Maybe Jay was paying his mother while he was growing up – like some kind of open secret to avoid actual child support. Now that the kids an adult, maybe he wants his piece of the pie – whether it be money or notoriety of being a mogul’s son.

Or this could be like Barney from HIMYM… Bob Barker!

Honestly I’m just giddy thinking about the crazy fans who will probably implode if this is true.

  21. FingerBinger says:

I don’t see a resemblance at all ,but you never know he could be Jay-Z’s son.

  22. word says:

The “scandal” in this story is that Jay-Z is refusing to do a paternity test. Why not just do one and get it over with?

Also, Beyonce didn’t shave years off her age. There has been countless interviews with her teachers, classmates, and church members etc. over the years that prove her age.

  23. The Original Mia says:

I watch too much Paternity Court and there have been plenty of cases where the alleged children look like the alleged parent and it turns out they are not related. I guess we’ll wait and see.

  24. Veritas says:

If he really is this dudes dad he should get a paternity test to prove it. If he is the father then this would be the best episode of Maury were all never gonna see. If he is the father he should own up to it a handle his business. Cus dude looks just like jigga.

  25. funcakes says:

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. All Ihave to say is that you never read aabout Tom Cruise paying off babymommas.

  26. SypherMomma says:

I doubt he has anything to lose at this point, Jay Z’s legal team already steamrolled this young mans mother. At this point he’s probably just trying to prove his mother is not a liar and hopefully force Jay to acknowledge his existence.

So what if he’s an up and coming rapper, if he were a dentist, garbage man, doctor it wouldn’t make his case any less important. Family honour is more important than money to some folks.

  27. Aubree says:

Most interesting story of the day.

  28. Jax T says:

Here’s my thing…..to all if u who are dissing JZ as if u were there! That’s not fair OK so granted if his name keeps coming up 4 this same type of accusation then I can see being a little put off by that but let us not forget…. NOTHING HAS BEEN PROVED!!! its just not fair to say he is a dead beat blah blah blah BC seriously the only PROVEN child he has HE IS TAKING CARE OF!!! As for the motive of this guy IM SRY BUT YES! its a effing red flag that NOBODY in their right mind would b sitting back just chillin if JZ indeed is ur father…let us not blame this guy completely tho he DEFINITELY WASNT THERE…. somebody has either lied to him or perhaps their all in on it…it does seem odd that 21 years WHERE WAS THIS KIDS MOM OR FAMILY?? WHY NOW?? something is off bout that!
