Rosamund Pike of course had the better Givenchy look last night, there’s pretty much no question. Rosamund’s crimson gown featured a fan-like bustline, layers of lace, seqyins and embroidery that somehow didn’t look busy and smooth fabric that gave the illusion of cinching her waist. This dress was beautiful, and she didn’t distract from it at all. Her styling was minimal and somehow just right. At yesterday’s Women in Film pre-Oscar party, Pike’s makeup was way underdone and I was worried she would make that mistake again. She didn’t, she just looked natural and fresh. Incredible. One minor complaint: the shoes could be less safe and matchy.
Also in Givenchy, with less success, we have Jessica Chastain. At least she’s wearing a bold color. Chastain’s dress draped down in both the front and back, giving it a kind of toga illusion. The front opened up to a sequin tank in a deeper navy than the rest of the dress. It looks like two different gowns layered on top of each other. The dress hugs Chastain perfectly, but it’s all too cookie cutter somehow. I also wish she would have done something different with her hair. Incredible necklace though, those are Piaget jewels.

Rosamund was definitely one of the best dressed of the night to me.
ITA, she was in my top 3. I was pleasantly surprised at her look because I hated what she wore to the Golden Globes so it was nice to see her really bring it.
Rosamund Pike looked amazing. She just had a baby in December. I can’t believe she has looked so good all award season.
The dress was beautiful, but in her interview with Robin Roberts, she apparently didn’t realize she was already live when she was struggling to arrange her dress perfectly and insert her leg thru the slit at the perfect angle. She looked ridiculous. Just wear the dress, ladies. Don’t let it wear you.
Robin Robert, who I like, called her Amy in the interview. It was a HOT mess. I don’t think Rosamund who is an Oxford grad can be blamed for being unnerved.
This dress was delicious. Her best look of the season and my favorite dress of the evening.
Rosamund WAS Oscar fashion last night.

I have to go with Jessica. There’s SUCH a Joan Holloway vibe to that dress which I absolutely love. The colour is amazing on her too. She doesn’t normally wear navy (from what I remember of her red carpet appearances).
Rosamund looks beautiful and the dress is amazing. I just don’t like red dresses on the red carpet (unreasonable dislike of mine, much like how I constantly don’t like Miles Teller no matter how good he is in movies).

On the other hand I LOVED that navi gown, sheer perfection in my book. On Jessica’s curves it was amazing and that necklace, wow! I think her simple, polished hair was a good choice given the jewelry and neckline, great balance.

Rosamund’s dress is nice, but I think her makeup was too underdone. And I hate the sexy/high fashion face she tends to make for the cameras.
ITA. I hated how her brows were the exact color of her hair. They should be a bit darker to give the face a frame. Also her lips and her blush were bland and looked faded.
I can’t stand the open mouth pose! Why are they doing it? They just look dead and expressionless (or is that the Botox?)

I also hated the waist detail and the back of the bodice. Just cheapened the entire look. And the matchy matchy shoes. Ugh. No. Almost there, but not quite-I wish she had gone for the rose look over the entire thing instead of the satiny back.

Rosamund’s dress fits so beautifully and really flatters her lovely figure. Red lace can look very bordello, but she looks beautiful.
I can’t imagine why Jessica didn’t wear her hair up to show off the pretty draping of her gown. That ruined it for me. High school cheerleader hair.
Spot on with the hair. I thought Rosamund’s dress-cut was spectacular, but I still think the lace was excessive.
I’m not a lace fan. But at least it fit her like a glove.
It’s a little too Valentine’s special lingerie for me. I think lace at the top with different material at the bottom would have made it better, but yes, the cut and her body are on point.
Pike has been either a dud or a disaster on the red carpet all season but she absolutely slayed on Oscar night.

RP’s dress looked like it was covered in roses on stage. A very beautiful color and I liked the cut. I think she won for Best Dress.
Deep blue looks good on JC, but the roundness of the draping on the dress makes her look short-bodied and it’s very busy in the neckline/bodice area . She should get an entire dress that looks like the sparkly blue one that is buried under the other one!
I thought the sane thing- Great color on Jessica up at the draping lines are not flattering.

So agree. The draping and neckline on Jessica Chastain’s gown makes her bust look…like matronly. She’s got a beautiful figure, but this gown didn’t flatter her at all.
Rosamund was absolutely stunning! But I too did not like the matchy shoes. That’s just a personal peeve of mine. I always have such hair envy when I see Jessica and she did not disappoint! I adored the color of her gown but the cut of the top was strange. It looked like something you would have to be constantly adjusting all night.
I loved Rosamund’s dress and it was definitely her best look this awards season. Jessica Chastain looked nice, but something was off for me. Maybe the draping around her boobs?
So happy to see COLOR! My eyes were glaaaazing over from the endless champagne tones. So props to these two, also Scarlett J., Eddie Murphy’s girlfriend? wife? in bright purple, and Solange (cray-cray maybe but she’s my fashion everything) in like fifty yards of red fabric.
Of these two, Rosamund’s got the edge for overall elegance; upswept hair would’ve upped the drama for Jessica but they both look lovely.

I think Chastain looked terrible. The shoes were horrible, like something you’d find at Payless. The two-dress top part was atrocious and her extensions were not blended in at all. Nope.
Rosamund’s dress was my favorite hands down. Jessica’s dress is great too but I think it would look much better on someone taller.
Rosamund was robbed. She has been robbed all season. It is a shame too, her performance in Gone Girl was fantastic.

Rosamund brought it home for the Oscars!!! (except for, well, the actual oscar). So nice to see her in something other than white or cream. And the styling/fit were divine! LOVED

I wasn’t into RP’s red. I did think it looked bordello……sorry, not sorry. Though JC’s dress was gorgeous, loved the color but really wanted someone to do something with that hair.
Loved Rosmund’s look, easily the best she has looked all season. I adore the colour of Jessica’s dress and don’t mind the hair (she has gorgeous hair, why not wear it down) but I don’t think the fit of the dress is all that flattering on her.
Rosamund was one of the best of the night. That dress was perfection her on. She looked amazing! Jessica was kind of meh to me, and I love her, but that dress underwhelmed.
Rosamund’s dress was one of my faves. I loved everything about it. Jessica made a bad choice. I hated that fit, esp. the bust. The color was okay, but the whole thing just read matron at fundraiser for me. Including her hair.
This dress is not totally working for me, but I still think Jessica looks lovely. Her hair is gorgeous and the navy color really compliments it. I also didn’t know she had some girls on her. Very Rita Hayworth to me. Rosamund looked really good; everything about her look worked for me.
I’m sorry but Rosamund’s dress is really fug! Her whole look is, actually! Her make up is way too undone, her hair boring.. I mean, it would have been fine for some other even but not the Oscars!!

Jessica’s dress reminded me of Julia Robert’s dress in My Best Friends Wedding, so it just seemed so dated to me.
Jessica is a hottie. Not loving the dress but she has some girls on her. She looks old Hollywood glam to me, somehow.
