Here are some photos of Karlie Kloss at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday. We just missed these photos! Karlie wore Atelier Versace – fashion people were raving about this gown, but I think it’s kind of blah. She’s got a great figure though. I was sort of disappointed that Taylor Swift didn’t attend this year’s VF party, just because we were actually missing some bigger name celebrities and because Karlie and Swifty would have had a fun time together.
Anyway, Karlie was in the news this weekend because she’s officially “stepping down” from her Victoria’s Secret Angel contract. A source told People Magazine that Karlie decided to leave VS because she’s “got a busy but exciting year ahead and the decision came down to timing. She’ll be focusing on her modeling career, new business opportunities and NYU starting in the fall.” If you read Karlie and Swifty’s Vogue interview, you know that Karlie was accepted into NYU’s Gallatin School of Indivualized Study, on Christy Turlington’s recommendation. After that announcement was published by People Magazine, VS confirmed Karlie’s withdrawal from her Angel-hood. Ed Razek of VS said:
“Karlie and I met several months ago to discuss the many things she hoped to do in her life and career. As we talked, it became clear she would not have the time to fulfill her myriad commitments. Reluctantly, we agreed she would leave the brand at the end of her contract. Karlie is one of a kind, a very close friend, someone I truly admire and love. She is, without question, one of the best models ever. But she is an even better person. Her future is unlimited, and I am excited to see all the good she will do. Karlie Kloss will always be an Angel to me.”
So, is everything fine? Well… Page Six decided to stir the pot a little bit. A source claims that Karlie is actually leaving VS because her “conservative” boyfriend, Joshua Kushner, told her to step down. Karlie is only 22, Kushner is 29. He’s “the successful entrepreneur behind a very private venture capital firm, and a scion of Kushner Properties.” And she’s a working model…? I guess I don’t really understand why a boyfriend – even a rich, conservative boyfriend – wouldn’t want his lady modeling for Victoria’s Secret. There’s no ring on that finger! You can’t tell her what to do!

That’s why I always hate commentary about married or engaged female celebrities that go into the territory of, “I can’t believe her husband lets her out of the house like that!” as if husbands or male family members are supposed to control women in that way. Just because he dates or marries you doesn’t mean he owns you.

Karlie ruled NYFW, is on yet another Vogue cover and has campaigns from L’Oreal to Nike.

Both Cara and Jourdan walked the VSFS. They’re just not angels. Karlie was always gonna be fine, VS wasn’t important for her career cause she’s achieved a lot more in high fashion. In fact, a lot of people wondered what she was doing working for VS when she was doing so great in “real” fashion world…

Funny how the narrative of Taylor, Karlie et al is the empowered, business oriented young woman. Yet as Karlie was getting big in the industry, the boyfriend suddenly decided it was not conservative enough or discrete enough and she complied? Who does he think he is? And the worst part is that I believe this is true, because Ivanka had to convert to Judaism in order to marry his brother.

You’ve missed my point entirely, but sure. Maybe you haven’t had coffee yet, that’s why you sound so angry. Anyway, my point is she is not just “presenting” herself in underwear, that is HER job, which she gets paid to do and she enjoys. If she quit to focus in her studies, good for her. Many people juggle full time jobs, a family and of top of that school (my case in particular) but if she has the privilege to focus solely in school and not have to worry about bills or a mortgage, that is great. But the narrative of this post was that her conservative boyfriend asked her to stop modeling for VS and she complied, so I just commented on that. Maybe that has nothing to do with her decision, nobody knows. I am just speculating on gossip, which is what we all are here to do.
…..but there is no talk of giving up her other modeling gigs, just the VS contract, if she really wanted to focus on study wouldn’t the other jobs be getting in the way as well. The boyfriend story has a ring of truth to it, but she also may be tiring of the VS circus which is really more about strutting the flesh than the product , more burlesque than catwalk.

Actually, other jobs might be easier to juggle along with studies… with VS, you can’t really skip some things. When there’s a VS fashion show, or they’re flying off to St. Barths to shoot the next campaign or catalogue, you have to be there. They;’re not gonna fly all the staff again just to shoot your pics. It’s an all-year-round thing. With other jobs, she can pick and choose and you can shoot a campaign for a week or so and then you’re free.
I call BS on this!In the interview Karlie says that she wants to keep workong while studying at NYU but clearly she can’t work as much as before. She has to choose some jobs over others and VF is very committal while campaigns and editorials are lucrative and more flexible work wise. Why would her bf suddenly impose her to stop working for VS? it sounds so retrograde!
Ya I am not buying this at all. She is keeping some of her modeling contracts, and it makes sense that given the time commitment for VS, she can’t do it anymore. I think she will be fine and that there are bigger things in her future than modelling. She is smart to be so forward thinking and not just focus on what it making her money and getting her publicity right now.

Now, if he did ask her to step down it’s up to her to decide whether she should or not. Cause I’m not sure about his reasons but let’s assume it’s because VS has a reputation for supplying young and pretty things to not-so-young rich things. If I was serious about my boyfriend and he was successfully working as an underwear model, I might ask him about his long-term plans. It’s reasonable and makes sense to me.
Because remember, we’re women. Our bodies don’t belong to us.

I would choose NYU over VS any day. I think she’s being smart. Beauty fades over time but an education last a lifetime. I don’t think it has anything to do with her BF. You can’t be an angel forever.
I hope she’s leaving her job for better opportunities, not because her boyfriend told her so. It’s sad, because even though she’s worked in the industry for a long time she is still only 22, and I have friends that age who would do it for their men because they don’t want to lose the guy.
He can’t force her to stop, of course, but I totally understand not wanting to be with someone whose job it is to show off their body. Of course it would be uncomfortable to think of all the men who are looking at pictures of your girlfriend all around the world and probably touching themselves at the same time…gross. Everyone has their dealbreakers and I fully understand this one.
