I read the lower links earlier, on pet food, and now have to do more research. The pet food industry is a free for all. I looked in the past, and couldn’t find it, but does anyone have a relatively easy, not too time consuming recipe for cats? How about dogs?

    • mimif says:

Kiddo, I know you don’t eat meat so not sure how you feel about feeding a raw or prey model diet, but duckduckgo feline obligate carnivore for some interesting reading. I feed both my cat and dogs a mix of Merrick’s grain (and GMO) free food plus raw meat & entrails. It’s gross & spendy but they’re all super healthy.

My daughter makes a quick and inexpensive “stew” for her dog 3 times a week. It’s basically chicken breast, rice and carrots or green beans. Her furbaby loves it and has helped her put on much needed weight. ( she was a rescue that didn’t want to eat anything we gave her)
I know there are lots of recipes out there for homemade. It’s actually not any harder or more expensive than making food for yourself.

    • Kiddo says:

Thanks guys. I don’t eat meat, but the furry kids have to. Too many die of mysterious rapidly developing diseases, and I expect the food is the source. Even some of the ‘better’ brands like Blue, have international sources for components.

If you really want to go down the wormhole, check out Dr. Jean Dodd’s page. Rescue group turned me onto her vaccination protocols (and no this has nothing to do with childhood vaccines), which I’m trying to figure out how to do with the Bubbs.

Kiddo, I have my male GSD, Archer, on a raw diet and have done since he was four months old after a bout of demodectic mange that just would not heal. He will be three on March 17th, and I really really can’t compliment it highly enough. His coat, his teeth his energy, all tremendous and he has none of the common GSD problems, like sensitive stomach or hot spots or inflammation of ears. I’m not – of course- putting this all down to diet, but he is thriving on it. Just something to consider.

My aunt swears by these sites for homemade catfood, maybe they’ll be helpful:

      • Kiddo says:

        Thanks much.
I’m bookmarking everything. ooh, I don’t think I could chop up a bunny, though.

      • WardLittell says:

Two of my cats will eat nothing but good quality canned tuna, and the third only likes bloody expensive dried food. The latter, the youngest, has a very evident paunch now, which indicates that even high protein bix contain too much starch/sugar. The other two will eat smoked salmon or canned crab as a favour, but ye gods the three of them have me pauperised, as well as concerned about longterm health problems.
I do like the rabbit idea…..they are very inexpensive in my local market. I’ll roast one at the weekend and pray for acceptance!

    • burnsie says:

Kiddo, something my vet told me re: feeding my meow meow is to just watch out for the meat if you decide to cook it from scratch. A lot of ground beef in grocery stores has a pretty high amount of preservatives and dyes. Also, not only keep an eye on protein content but try to research the type of protein to make sure it’s good. Something can have high protein content but it could be all connective tissue vs quality meat

      • Kiddo says:

        What about chicken?

      • mimif says:

I don’t feed raw chicken and I never feed pork. Sometimes to switch things up, I buy a small whole organic free range chicken, cover it with water and simmer on lowww (including organs) for about 2-3 hours, or until the meat falls off the bone. Then I debone it and feed accordingly. My animals are really active (and still growing), so the fat vs. protein ration is okay for them, plus they get all the gelatin which IMO is important for their health. Conversely, if you’re worried about fat, you can get organic chicken “tenders” or breast meat, and boil that lightly til cooked. I don’t need to tell you not to add salt, garlic or onions, mmmkay?

      • burnsie says:

Re: chicken – if it’s from a body part (i.e. breasts, thighs etc) just watch for preservatives. If it’s ground chicken, same issue w connective tissue vs legit protein. Good luck – let me know what you end up doing 🙂

      • mimif says:

You might have already touched on this, but I’m totally nerding out. Some people discourage feeding anything ground, regardless of it’s source or label, because by the very nature of being ground up, it has more chance of coming into contact with bacteria. Of course, animals with a strong immune system won’t have a problem destroying the bacteria, but weaker animals might not, as well as the risk of exposure to humans.
Poor veggie Kiddo, too bad your fur babies couldn’t just live off cheese. 😉

      • burnsie says:

mimif, I know what you mean!! I totally worry about my little fuzzbutt

    • Tiffany :) says:

I make my own dog food!
I started after the dog food from China started making dogs ill years ago. My dog can’t handle too high of fat, so I try to keep it lean for her.

I boil lean beef or chicken. I drain it and add peas, spinach, sometimes carrots. I use my hand blender to purify the meat and veggies. I boil brown rice, then mix it all together. I then put the mix into small portion sizes and freeze it.

    • Captain Obvious says:

I worked for a vet for 5 years and my experiences are that vegetarian diets for dogs and cats is just not healthy (they need protein) and that foods like Taste of the Wild, Innova and Solid Gold are really the three of the best out there.

      • WardLittell says:

Oh lord I hope the days of forcibly vegetarian cats is long gone! It reminds me of the early 70s, earnest hippies I knew feeding their poor wee cat only wholewheat pasta and putting a bell on its collar so it couldn’t feed itself adequately. In fact, now I think of it, maybe it was sheer bloodlust, a yearning for steak, that made so many of us hippie types turn punk overnight in 1977!
        🙂

      • Kiddo says:

Who could get cats to eat anything plant based other than grass and catnip?

      • WardLittell says:

Kiddo….IKR? Poor kitteh lived on a farm too but the blasted giant bell scared off the rats and mice it should have been devouring. Happy ending though: an infuriated hunt saboteur/animal activist actually catnapped her away from her clueless humans.
Mine like having a tray of wheatgrass to chomp when they need it, but if that ever gets a bit sparse they will seek out and chew potted rosemary or thyme about the place (which made me wonder, guiltily, how they’d taste roasted)….though they definitely didn’t try eucalyptus twice!

    • SamusAran says:

I feed my labrador NutriLife Pet Food which is holistic. Google the name to bring up their site and food options. My dog got sick on his puppy food before age 1 and had stomach issues up until feeding him NutriLife. Their website is Nutri Life Pet Food dot com (no spaces).

    • phlyfiremama says:

I feed my rescue Bengal (who came to me with VERY severe IBS issues) a raw food mix of ground turkey, with pureed chicken liver, hearts, & gizzards as the meat base, with the following nutrients added: bone meal, fish oil, dry Vit E, taurine, and b-complex. My basic recipe is 3 lbs of turkey, a container of liver, 1/2 a package of gizzards, 1/2 a package of hearts, 1/4 cup bone meal, 1/4 cup fish oil, 8 opened capsules each of taurine, dry Vit E, & B–complex 50 mixed together, portioned out, and the extra frozen. His explosive diarrhea was GONE within 2 days, he started putting on weight & his beautiful shiny coat grew back, and aside from some kidney issues (due to malnutrition from the IBS) he is thriving. Mind you, my sweetie spent 1 month living in a Cat specific Vetrinary clinic prior to coming to live with me, and they couldn’t fix him~they ran every test, put him on different medications & antibiotics, and basically wrote him off as not able to be fixed. There are some excellent recipes out there, and some other resources: Marily Krieger, the Cat Coach who lives in California, has excellent information she makes freely available. You can also check out the Bengal Cat Rescue Yahoo group, who has EXCELLENT information in their “files” section.

    • Samtha says:

Try the Truth About Pet Food website–but be sure you go to the correct one, because one of the big pet food groups bought a similar domain a few years ago.

I feed my cats Fromm wet food and Orijen dry. Both brands are family owned and use fresh, human-grade ingredients. Neither brand has ever had a recall. They’re a bit pricy, but worth it.

      • Cheryl says:

I make room in the freezer for a big box of raw -food patties for our dog when I can afford it. It’s same $ as the more expensive dry dog food. I believe he’s happier and more energetic on the raw food.

  2. taterho says:

You know what that Avengers poster needs? More cast members. Hell, throw the gaffers and craft service on it too.

    • mia girl says:

      I know, it’s weird!
      Questions I have:
      – Why does Thor have three nipples?
      – Are those tiny people in the sky flying in or floating up (ala The Leftovers)
      – Is that Cumberbatch I see photobombing in the background?

P.S. Bonus – Remer as Hawkeye in the bottom picture. Bwahaa – I swear that character is pretty ridiculous to me.

      • mimif says:

        Definitely needs more Potato Wings.

        *rings bell*

      • taterho says:

I’ve never scanned a picture more than I am now. I’m feverously trying to find Thor nipples.
The poster also needs more Fake Babies that look like Robin Williams.

      • mimif says:

        It’s not a tumah!

      • MonicaQ says:

        @mia

        – it’s part of his costume. They are little shields. The top hold his cape and the bottom two are for “decoration”. It’s meant to harness the idea of protection since Thor (mythical and comical) eschewed shields.

        – I’m going to guess just flying since all of the Ultron bots could fly.

        – and I *think* that is The Vision and not Dr. Strange. I could be wrong though.

      • Kiddo says:

It’s seriously in need of a clown car. How else is everyone expected to get around?

      • mia girl says:

        MonicaQ
You are the sweeted person ever. You took my lame attempts at absurd humor and actually answered like a reasonable person.

    • lucy2 says:

Ages ago when we go Photoshop at work, we took added all kinds of stuff to a photo of a project we were working on – dozens of celebrities, cartoon characters, etc – couch jumping Tom Cruise and Yoda both make an appearance, for example.
This reminds me a lot of that.

    • Olenna says:

I’m like the friend with no jokes but laughs at everything, and this sh*t is funny. Clown car…Ha!

    • FLORC says:

It looks like an old comic cover. I like it. I think that’s the look they were going for judging from the backround as well.

  3. Nackerson says:

Ooooh Captain America, you ’bout to have major head trauma…..

  4. InvaderTak says:

Not even good Photoshop. Yeesh that’s awful. And Scarlett witchs costume still looks like avril Levine wannabe to me. Bad.

  5. Mia4S says:

That poster screams ‘we don’t care, you’re going to see it anyway”. Generic crap, zero art.

I do love that Marvel at least tries on story and character (usually) but would it kill them not to make movies that look so cheap?

    • Kiddo says:

‘we don’t care, you’re going to see it anyway”. LMFAO. Isn’t this the motto of 50 shades of Meh, too?

    • lucy2 says:

Seriously. They could have saved some time and just put a big dollar sign out as their poster.

      • Kiddo says:

They should have added someone who wasn’t in the movie, like some long dead thespian, to see if people even notice.Laurence Olivier or John Gielgud.

    • FLORC says:

It’s a throwback to old comic issue covers.

  6. Elly says:

what have they done to Samuel L. Jackson? Did the photographer kick him in the nuts or what? What a silly pose!? And the two new members in the right corner…
Seems the phooshop people didn´t care.

  7. BendyWindy says:

I can’t believe Chris Hemsworth is billed above Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo. Bizarre!

    • 'P'enny says:

tell me about it! i can only assume the names are in order of first appearances. Still i love how Hemswoth looks like he is going to clobber Iron Man with Moljnir.

    • Beth says:

He was billed fairly low last time and was second to last in terms of screentime (Hawkeye being first), so Thor is getting his due here. No biggie.

  8. InvaderTak says:

Also, kuddos to Hemsworth’s agent getting his name second. That’s interesting that he’s second and Evans is fourth, but his image is bigger than RDJ and Hemsworth. Wonder how that works.

  9. Norman Bates' Mother says:

With Ryan Gosling’s Disneyland addiction, his daughter will be the happiest child, until the bazzilionth time, when she will become the first little girl in the world who has to be coerced or bribed to go there. “No, daddy, not Disneyland again, let’s go to the Morbid Anatomy Museum instead!”.

  10. bobslaw says:

Those figures floating around in the top of the poster look like dementors to me.

  11. Bridget says:

    Chris Evans sure is purty.

  12. 'P'enny says:

And no Loki!!!!!! and no Tom H in the cast listings, Idris and Stellan from Thor are listed, but Hiddles has been left out???? cats out the bag, so why try and pretend he isn’t in it. Unless they cut him out? or a credits scene doesn’t include cast members who have a right for their name in the main poster, cause its supposed to be a surprise. But surprise has gone, thanks to idris. tut.

  13. Smurphy says:

Crowded poster but my my Chris Evans still manages to bring the hawt

  14. LAK says:

    Can’t wait.
