Taylor Swift in dragon-y Cavalli at the BRIT Awards: Targaryen Realness?

wenn22239938

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss at last night’s BRIT Awards. Taylor Swift went for a dark, dragon-y look – this is Roberto Cavalli Atelier, accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Swifty is #TeamTargaryen!!!!! Karlie wore a bold Thierry Mugler gown. Both ladies seemed to have abandoned their twee. Is this a temporary thing? Are they no longer about cutesy cupcakes and cookies and sleepovers?

Taylor picked up the award for International Female Solo Artist. She also performed “Blank Space” at the show, to decent reviews (I watched some clips and Tay-Tay is really not the best at choreography). But the most notable Swifty moment came when there was a cutaway during Kanye West’s performance of “All Day”. Here you go:

Bless her heart. I kind of love that she keeps standing up and doing her awkward dances at every music awards show, even though everyone always yells at her.

What else? Swifty explained yesterday why she posted those photos of her belly button, even though she always said that we would never see her stomach. Apparently, the paparazzi got some shots of her in a bikini and she was trying to make the pap shots worth less money, so she posted some ‘kini Instagrams. I understand the train of thought, but sometimes I kind of think Taylor is too self-aware for her own good. You can read more about Swifty’s thoughts here.

I loved her black and red dress, my first thought was it reminds me of Game of Thrones.
I thought her dancing was awesome, I’m pretty sure most people think its cute and fun now because you can tell she’s just enjoying life. Her first reaction to seeing Kanye’s performance was priceless LOL that’s how I felt when I saw it too, I thought he was amazing last night and I wish I had been on stage with him.

    • Wolf says:

I agree. All her dancing does is remind me that she’s in her mid-20s (26, right?), so good for her! She’s responding to something that moves her by dancing and having fun, like a 20-something woman SHOULD do.

  2. maria says:

more like Geisha. cool dress either way

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

Yes, all it needed was a Mandarin collar. It is pretty; I like it. Kloss’s, however, not so much. The top looks too much like a pair of tatas.

      • Veeee says:

A “geisha” is Japanese, they wear kimonos. This dress is not fitted like a kimono at all.
A “mandarin collar” is a stylistic piece on a “Cheongsam” dress, originating in China.
These are two completely different types of clothing, none of which are shaped like this dress.

    • That’s definitely an East Asian style of dragon, not a Targaryen style.

I know GOT is hot (and I love it myself), but there’s a whole world of mythology and iconography out there.

  3. Loopy says:

Awww lol she is so stiff its actually cute.

  4. Frida_K says:

I could totally wear that dragon dress and be fierce.

She is not fierce enough for the dragon dress.

That should be my dragon dress. Though I couldn’t wear it to clinic when I’m treating patients, I could totally rock it for didactic classes.* I’m sure that my professors would love it. I know I would.

    *sighs happily*

*For those who do not know: I am a student of Chinese medicine.

  5. GiGi says:

I like the dress. It’s not a different silhouette for her, but definitly a different look!

  6. mytbean says:

I kind of like the dragon dress. Although I would have liked it better if the dragon had been blues and greens with gold accents or just more colorful in general. Karlie’s dress – maybe with some black on the bottom to balance it out? As it is it looks like a black “W” on her chest.

  7. Kiddo says:

I like the dragon dress, just not on her, at least from the posterior view. The wrap-around tail either creates the illusion of a flat, square buttocks or it enhances that characteristic.

  8. Van says:

Cool dress – I bet it didn’t make the final cut for the Met gala but she still wanted to rock it.

  9. Mzizkrizten says:

I stand by anyone that’s not afraid to just dance.

  10. Anna says:

I liked her dress but that hair was woof. It looks a bit like Hillary Clinton’s typical ‘do. (Which isn’t bad, but not a match with that dress…)

    • Dani2 says:

I agree 100%, she really needs to ditch this Hilary Clinton look. I don’t know where she can go from here though hairstyle-wise? I have a feeling she doesn’t want to go shorter.

  11. Allie says:

To be fair, I think she usually rocks the red carpet and saves the twee for the street. I absolutely can’t dance, so I don’t try to dance sexily. It’s so embarrassing to see Taylor try and fail to be sexy. On and off the stage.

    • mimif says:

I can’t stop watching the clip. It’s like she short circuits and then starts up again.

      • Kiddo says:

She had an ‘epiphany’ that cameras were locked on her, and then she starts. That’s how it’s programmed.

      • Wolf says:

You people can be so vicious. You’ve never ever danced awkwardly at a concert? Good for her.

  12. FKA Pri says:

Yesterday ’twas the green dress and today dragon dress… I’m lovin’ the new Swifty.

  13. I Choose Me says:

    Love, love, love the dress.

  14. INeedANap says:

Isn’t the Met Gala’s theme this year “Chinese Whispers”? She should have saved this dress for that.

  15. charlie says:

I seem to be the only one, but I hate the dress. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Cavalli dress that didn’t look tacky.

  16. Birdix says:

Is she referencing Chinese New Year? (I’m off to another lion dance later today and more this weekend).

  17. Bonnie says:

According to Karlie’s instagram she is wearing Tom Ford….

  18. Dawn says:

I saw a picture of Taylor posing with the Kardashians at the Brit awards. Man if she is going to bring them into her circle I am done buying anything of hers for the preteens and teens in my family. See ya Taylor.

  19. Micki says:

This is a great improvement from her forever nude period.
    I like it

  20. Addie says:

Reminds me of Jimmy Page’s dragon suit in the Led Zeppelin days…so cool…just love it.

  21. Lucy says:

Great dress, very original. And kudos to her for always having fun at these events, no matter what people think. Some artists take these so seriously.

  22. kri says:

I love this dress. I’m a sucker for dragons, though. Kloss’s dress is awful-talk about Blank Space.

  23. Chinoiserie says:

Taylor looks great, she knows how to evolve style gracefully while always maintaining a certain look.

And the Game of Thrones costume designer should buy this for Daenerys to wear, her house colors are black and red so she should be wearing something like this.

  24. Abby says:

    Love the dress!

  25. BooBooLaRue says:

Yes to the dress! but am I being picky, TS looks like a 40-year old.

  26. Jonesy says:

In that Vine, she looks like a deer in the headlights, who then had a seizure.

  27. Veronica says:

I loved it on her. On a movie star, it would be too much. For a pop star, though, a restrained Cavalli is just fine. Now if only we could get rid of that hair…
