For months now, I’ve been ignoring this kid. There’s been a lot of press surrounding this “Benedict Cumberbatch lookalike” boy named Tyler Michell. He’s a little English guy and he’s only 16 years old. I didn’t want to cover it because it felt like it was just a weird viral blip and I didn’t think Tyler was really “in” on it. But as it turns out, Tyler wants the attention and he’s giving interviews now. Interviews about how he looks sort of like a young Benedict Cumberbatch. You can see Tyler’s Instagram here (please remember he’s just 16 and like many 16-year-old boys, he thinks period jokes are hilarious).
Does he have a passing resemblance to Bendy? Sure. Maybe this is my American-ness talking, but I tend to think there are probably a lot of dudes in England with a passing resemblance to Bendy. Seriously, there are so many pale guys with high cheekbones and weak chins. But Tyler is special, I guess. He already has 19,000 followers on Instagram and he’s giving interviews about their likeness. He told The Telegraph (via People):
“It started out as a joke – my close friends and family would tease me and say I looked like Benedict Cumberbatch. I guess I look like him a little, but I really didn’t take it seriously. Now people are messaging me and saying I should have won the Oscar. I get girls from Brazil saying they want to meet me in the U.K., which is crazy as I’m just a teenage boy sitting at home … I’m a huge fan of Benedict, but I don’t think I look like him.”
It would be interesting to see how far a kid could go just by looking sort of like Benedict Cumberbatch. Like, if Gatiss and Moffat do any more Sherlock flashback scenes, would they hire Tyler? If Benedict is doing a film where they need brief scenes of him as a teenager, would they hire Tyler?

Trying to think who I crushed on at 16….I think that was about when Brokeback Mountain came out (still makes me sniffy) so I was very much into Jake G (still am) and Heath Ledger (RIP). Oh and the Seth character from The O.C.

I had a friend (not anymore) that when she cut her hair she looked exactly like Halle Berry. The fact that she was tall made it worse particularly next to us shortys. She would get hit on by everybody. (some even after she said I’m 13!) Eventually she grew out of it.
I wish I could un-see that IG. I have to say it again: I’m SO happy that social media, selfies, etc weren’t a “thing” when I was growing up. It’s all so damn cringe-worthy.

He somewhat resembles. Still looks like a teen though. Which is not sexy. 16 eh? Where was Bendy in 1999? Anyway, this kid owes all his play to the man who once wore velvet out. Seconded, he better get it in now. Pretty soon, he’ll be a hairy, fat, balding vestige of his former self.
Bendy was in Italy doing Avanté Garde theatre. I have WAY too much time on my hands. fractallightgathering has the scoop on a play he was in with a hand bill but no pics. Don’t think the kids his though.

The things what he’s saying doesn’t consistent with his photos at instagram… at 1st i also thought young Benedict, but after check him closer, i think, that weird charm & intellect totally missing from his eyes/visage – what Ben has. for me -going by his photos- he’s just another poser what lately so trendy among teens to increasing self-confident by likes, followers, etc. & i cant find this behavior attractive.
say what you will about the lizard Cumberbatch, he does seem to be totally comfortable with the weirdness of his own looks. Which is to be expected in one’s 30s, but not so much in a teenager.
As for the selfies, I agree it’s rather vain but somewhat understandable in a teenager, they like to do stuff like this. It’s more embarrassing when it’s 30somethings *coughKardashiancough* pulling it.
